Is it possible to use JavaScript to search a directory of PDF files?

A company I am interning for is looking for a solution. They want to allow users to search within their PDF user manuals by typing a string into a search field and returning the PDF document link or page link. Is this possible? How would I accomplish this? I have only been programming for 1 year.
Can adobe reader use javascript to create a link that we attach the directory to? If not how or what would you do?
Thank you.

Ideally, I would like a link to Adobe Reader or Acrobat that only allows users to "Search Our Manuals for Help".  The user types in "Commission Invoice Inquiry" and in return gets links etc. to the PDF's in our directory of files containing that inquiry or "string".
User scenario:  User gets new software from company but needs to look in manual on how to get "commision invoice inquiry". So user goes onto my company's website and finds this said application I am looking for and types in "commission invoice inquiry" and hits enter. The application then searches through the company's directory of PDF files (manuals) for "commission invoice inquiry" and returns any page links within the PDF that have that "commission invoice inquiry" on them. It can open inside of Adobe Reader or Acrobat or whichever. The company is even willing to pay for said "plugin" or application.

  • Using JavaScript to search for dates in PDF

    Hello,
    I have a question about using JavaScript in Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
    I want a script that automatically search dates which fall within one week of the date of today.
    If this is true then the pdf file have to be deleted. If the date is later then one week of the date of today then the pdf file must be moved to a different folder.
    I hope anyone can help me with a solution.
    With regards,
    Robert

    Searching is the easy part. The problem is that a script can't delete a
    file, nor can it move a file to another problem.

  • Help - "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed."

    Hello,
    I searched this site and google for this error terminology and come up dry.  I support a user who has been for years using Acrobat 5 (yes, I know...) to read files in a client DB program, as well as other PDF files on their PC.  In the last week or so, they have started gatting this error "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed." any time they attempt to open a PDF file attached to an email (via Outlook).
    It is my understanding that they cannot upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat because of limitations of their client software, but had not previously had any issues viewing PDF notes from the DB, and PDF attachments in their email.
    I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, as well as tried using Adobe Reader 7 & 9 in conjunction with Acrobat to try to get around this issue, but have not been successful.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

    I don't have an answer to your technical problem. The product I assume is Acrobat that you are talking about (based on the post title), Adobe is the company name. This is a good place to ask questions on Acrobat if folks can figure out what you are talking about. They will ask for the product version number (like AA9.3.3), operating system, and other applications if appropriate. Also, just what you are doing that generates the message.
    As for Adobe, you are not likely to get an answer from them here in the user forum. You will be lucky if you can get an answer if you can contact them and not be on hold for more than an hour (sorry, this is why a lot of folks end up in the forum).
    So, to help others try to answer your question, what are the products and versions involved? What OS? What are you doing when the message comes up.

    Is it possible to export the page activity report to a pdf file?and is there any api or samples to be reference

    Do you mean audit history?   One method would be similar to the following sample that you could extend to create a PDF from the data returned:
    http://www.eyelock.net/blog/archives/533
    BUT the method used above via JCR Query is an implementation detail.  For future proofing, you should use the ReplicationStatus status = page.adaptTo(ReplicationStatus.class in your code to get the audit logs for a particular page, rather than a straight JCR query. • Is it possible to put adobe reader on my website for pdf file users ?

    Is it possible to put adobe reader on my website for pdf file users ?

    The point is that, like all licensed software, you need permission to redistribute it in any form. So the question is: is that permission granted? If you can find anywhere that grants it that's fine.
    Adobe used to give out such permission back in the days of Reader 1, 2, 3... but I believe it was long ago removed. There is a strong reason to do this today: third party redistributors aren't likely to be hot on updating to new versions etc. There is a more cynical view: Adobe would also lose such benefits as it might get from offering dubious "extras" with the download. Finally, and strongly - if anyone can distribute it, these days who can tell who has the real product and who has a malware impersonator?

    Hello. Can I still use the forms central to modify my pdf.-files after the software is not supported by adope?

    Formscentral isn't designed to allow for the modification of PDF files, forms or otherwise. If you have saved forms created in Formscentral as PDF you will continue to be able to modify them in a program like Acrobat. Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to use Powershell to determine if Windows Server Source Files are present on disk?

    Hi everyone,
    I would like to know if it is possible to use a Powershell cmdlet to determine if Windows Server 2012 (R2) Source Files are present on disk.
    We are using an automated PS script to install roles and features and some registry keys and applications afterwards. If the Source Files are not present, the script will fail, so I would like a# Check if Source Files are present # stage built in
    the script to determine if the source files are present or that an alternate source path needs to be used.
    Is this possible with Powershell and if so, how can we achieve this?
    I'll appreciate your answer.
    - Rob

    Hi Rob,
    I assume that you are using powershell command "install-windowsfeature" .
    I would suggest you add the parameter "-source" to specify the alternate path of thesource file .
    " The path specified in this parameter is only used if the command cannot find feature files in the local side-by-side store of the specified target computer or VHD. "
    For details please refer to the article below :

  • Using JavaScript to Print and Overwrite Active Form Files

    Hello all,
    I have zero knowledge of JavaScript and I am hoping someone can help me
    quickly solve an issue I am having with active forms. I tried using the flatten
    feature in the action wizard but it is not working. I also tried using
    "this.flattenPages()" but I can still edit the fields in my PDF file.
    What I am looking for is a JavaScript command that allows me to overwrite the existing
    PDF file using the PDF printer and overwrite the active form so it is
    finalized. Maybe there is an easier more efficient way to accomplish this? Any
    input or help would be much appreciated. I am using Adobe Acrobat XI
    Pro. Thanks.
    P.S. I realize I can manually selected the Adobe PDF printer and finalize my
    active form that way but I am looking for a one click solution.

  • Is it possible to print using Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer from a pdf file ?

    Hi,
    I have a pdf file and I want to print using Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer so that the file to be uploaded to https://cloud.acrobat.com. Is this possible  ? Right now an email is received that "Adobe PDF Pack could not successfully convert your file filename.pdf to Adobe PDF. Your uploaded file type is not a supported format. Or pdf file type is not supported ?
    Thank you

    Hi adelon84,
    If the file is already a PDF, you can upload it directly to Acrobat.com. Just log in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com using your Adobe ID and password, and click the Upload File icon (the cloud with an arrow), navigate to your PDF file, and click OK!
    (Once a PDF, no need to convert to PDF again!)

  • Using IFRAME in JSF to display a PDF file

    2 all,
    How do i display a PDF file inside a JSF page in a IFRAME tag?
    I store the PDF file location (like d:\images\pdf1.pdf) in my database. I cant give this location directly into the src attribute cos then the file will be rendered to only users who have access to that folder (the application is a internet application). IFRAME would be ideal as the display is very very neat (esp for pdf files).
    To get this working i tried the examples given in balusc blogs (on image servlet) but the problem is that my servlet is not getting called. Find below the web.xml and imageDisplay.jsp pages that i tried

    public class ImageServlet extends HttpServlet {
         private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) {
            // Define base path somehow. You can define it as init-param of the servlet.
    //        String imageFilePath = "/images";
            // In a Windows environment with the Applicationserver running on the
            // c: volume, the above path is exactly the same as "c:\images".
            // In UNIX, it is just straightforward "/images".
            // If you have stored images in the WebContent of a WAR, for example in the
            // "/WEB-INF/images" folder, then you can retrieve the absolute path by:
            // String imageFilePath = getServletContext().getRealPath("/WEB-INF/images");

  • Handle the "No matches were found." when doing a search in Adobe Acrobat PDF file.

    I have written an Excel spread sheet and using visual basic coding in my macro can open an as needed PDF file, search for a paragraph number as copied from the spread sheet, capture the page in the PDF file it is found on and paste the "pagefound" back into my Excel spreadsheet where desired. In some cases, however, Adobe Acrobat Professional XI reports back that "No matches were found."
    Is there any way to handle the display of this message using Visual Basic Coding so that I can set my pagefound field to 1 or -1 to tell me that the paragraph number does NOT exist in the file?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you for the quick reply. However, I am NOT trying suppress the message.  I am tying to handle the message.  In other words, I want the message to appear when required BUT I want to be able to try and CAPTURE the fact so that I can specify the page as being non-existent (such as entering a -1 for the page).  Is there any way in Adobe or VBA coding in Excel to recognize that the message is displaying but not stopping it, just recognizing that it is appearing and handle it?  Thanks in advance.

  • Search in saved preview .pdf files not working any more

    When I download a .pdf file from the internet and open it in preview, the search command works ok. When this same file is saved to disk and opened again, search is not working any more. Is this a bug, or my fault. Regards Rolf

    Hi,
    I hope this helps...
    A while back we have more than one browser running on our PC (IE, Firefox, Chrome) and we messed by how Acrobat views documents over the web.
    I think that this has some relevance here, as around this time LC also started falling over previewing forms.
    Now if we open LC and Acrobat is not running, the "Preview PDF" is not present or accessible. So now we fire up Acrobat before we open a form in LC Designer and the preview tab is there and functioning.
    Not much of a workaround; but I am hoping that someone will have a better one!!!
    Good luck,
    Niall
