How to view the tables/views available in Oracle
HI,
I am creating DB connection and importing the data from Oracle TABLES/ Views. I just want know how to view the tables/views available in Oracle. (I have the login details). Can I view thru TOAD? Pl let me know the best way and suggestions/ views / Links/ whitepagers.
Regards,Hi,
I don't remember exacly: RSA1 -> source system -> "replicate datasources". Works this also in a DB-source system. I think so.
=> you get all tables that your user has authorisation.
This function execute for example (in oracle there are same information tables: dba_tables, user_tables ...) following select in the database:
select TABLE_NAME from DBA_TABLES;

Replication of database views/materialized views from big oracle to mobile client
Hi all,
Has anyone done a replication of a view or a materialized view
from big oracle to oracle lite? I can get replication of a
database table happening(although I cant seem to find the table
when I log into the odb using msql) but it just doesn't seem to
work with views(hence the path I have taken which is to use
materialized views). Anyone? CheersHello,
Yesterday I met the same problem and very sad about this, however, my story is much more complicated (I think so).
I have 6 databases:
2 - 11g
2 - 10g
2 - 9i
Every database of each release has different characterset(UTF8 and AL16UTF16).
I am trying to create Materialized view with FAST REFRESH on Oracle 11g, when master tables are located on 10g database and 9i database.
Materialized view, which points to 9i database, was successfully created.
Materialized view, which points to 10g database, gets ORA-12028
Like you, I tried many notes from METALINK and thought at the begining that the problem is my characterset. But, when the materialized views were successfully built on Oracle 9i database, I understood that the problem is something else.
Did you find the actual reason why this issue does not work??
Thanks,

SQL command of Materialized View Relication in Oracle XE
Hi, all,
While waiting for the machine to be OK, I decide to post my understand of materialized view replication here and please point me anything incorrect.
I have two machines A and B, I want to make A as a master and B as replica, to replicate table test.
On A:
create materialized view log on test;
On B:
create database link dbl_a
connect to SYSTEM identified by password
using '(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = a)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = XE)
create materialized view test_mview as select * from test@dbl_a;
At last, when I want to make a synchronization, I run
On B:
EXECUTE DBMS_MVIEW.REFRESH('test_mview');
Any point is appreciated.

Can Oracle materialized view be used as crystal report datasource
Hi,
Can we use materialized view created in Orace 10g database as the data source of crystal reports.
I'm using Crystal reports Server 2008 V1 version. I'm unable to find the materialized view under my data connection. I can see only tables, static views and stored procedures.
Is there a way by which I can run my reports against a materialized view created in Oracle.
Thanks
Thomas ELHi Thomas,
Rather than doing all of this work around to access multiple databases/servers why not create a stored procedure to do all of this for you? Search the notes area for samples on how/what CR requires to use a SP in Oracle.
Advantages is this is done all server side and CR simply waits for the data to be returned. Even if you are using a BVM or connecting directly to the SP, both cases are server side. Database servers are much more efficient and optimized to run queries and filtering data. CR has to do the filtering on it's second pass and that causes performance delays.
Thank you

Trigger Email with refresh of materialized view
What I am trying to do is when a materialized view is refreshed Oracle will essentially query the MV and for all the branches on the report send an email to the designated person in that branch. Is this possible and what I need help on is how to set the trigger and then the email part. The branch will have to be looked up on a table to get the email address. Thanks for any help on this!
This is more of a pl/sql/sql question than apex.. Soooo.. I would suggest you ask it here:PL/SQL

Create a fast refresh materialized view with partitioned primary index
Hi,
I have a materialized view that is based on a table with primary key.
I want to create a materialized view with a partitioned primary index . do you have any way of doing it?
I tried to create a materialized view with rowid and then I created a partitioned primary index on it.
It did not work as what I expected. I could not perform a fast refresh on it. the materialized view can only complete refresh

Table Operator Vs Materialized View Operator
Hi All,
Could you please give the differences between Table Operator and Materialized view Operator in Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g.
Regards,
SubbuBelow an extract of my notes of the Materialized view. The complete notes are here :
http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dw/aggregate_table
=====Notes=====
Materialized views are the equivalent of a summary table. (Materialized views can be also use as replica).
In a olap approach, each of the elements of a dimension could be summarized using a hierarchy.
The end user queries the tables and views in the database. The query rewrite mechanism in a database automatically rewrites the SQL query to use this summary tables.
This mechanism reduces response time for returning results from the query. Materialized views within the data warehouse are transparent to the end user or to the database application.
This is relatively straightforward and is answered in a single word - performance. By calculating the answers to the really hard questions up front (and once only), we will greatly reduce the load on the machine, We will experience:
* Less physical reads - There is less data to scan through.
* Less writes - We will not be sorting/aggregating as frequently.
* Decreased CPU consumption - We will not be calculating aggregates and functions on the data, as we will have already done that.
* Markedly faster response times - Our queries will return incredibly quickly when a summary is used, as opposed to the details. This will be a function of the amount of work we can avoid by using the materialized view, but many orders of magnitude is not out of the question.
Materialized views will increase your need for one resource - more permanently allocated disk. We need extra storage space to accommodate the materialized views, of course, but for the price of a little extra disk space, we can reap a lot of benefit.
Also notice that we may have created a materialized view, but when we ANALYZE, we are analyzing a table. A materialized view creates a real table, and this table may be indexed, analyzed, and so on.
Success

AWM does not provide Materialized Views as potential data sources.
Hi
I would like to map OLAP dimensions and cubes directly to materialized views. The Oracle AWM tool, however, only displays Tables, Views and Synonyms as mapping objects and I have to indirectly map to normal views created over the materialized views.
Why does Oracle enforce this limitation?
Thanks
Kind Regards
GregGreg,
Not sure why AWM enforces this limitation, certainly Warehouse Builder does not enforce this rule (at least not to my knowledge). You could raise a bug/enhancement request with Support. However, my recommendation is to never to map directly to a source object, such as a fact table or materialized view, in AWM. This can create all sorts of problems as you move your AWM model across environments. I always suggest to my customers and consultants they create a view over their source objects and use the view within the mapping editor. It will give you more control over the flow of data into your cube/dimension since it allows you to define filters on the view.
Hope this helps

Materialized view log update question
Hi, I am running into a question regarding mview - not sure if it should behave that way or I didn't use it right.
I have two base tables, sales and customers (drived from nested materialized view example in oracle doc):
CREATE TABLE sales
cust_ID VARCHAR2(32 BYTE) NOT NULL,
amount_sold NUMBER,
TEMP VARCHAR2(100 BYTE),
CONSTRAINT sales_pk PRIMARY KEY (cust_id)
CREATE TABLE customers
cust_ID VARCHAR2(32 BYTE) NOT NULL,
CUST_LAST_NAME VARCHAR2(100 BYTE),
TEMP VARCHAR2(100 BYTE),
CONSTRAINT cust_pk PRIMARY KEY (cust_id)
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG ON sales
WITH ROWID (cust_id, amount_sold);
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG ON customers
WITH ROWID (cust_id, cust_last_name);
Then I create a fast refresh materialized view based on them:
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW join_sales_cust
REFRESH FAST ON DEMAND AS
SELECT c.cust_id, c.cust_last_name, s.amount_sold, s.rowid srid, c.rowid crid
FROM sales s, customers c
WHERE s.cust_id = c.cust_id;
Since this materialized view only invole cust_id and amount_sold from sales and cust_id and last_name from customers table, I do not want to trigger materialized view log entry if the TEMP column value gets updated. So follow update shouldn't trigger mlog:
update sales set TEMP='TEMP2' where cust_id=1
but this update should:
update sales set amount_sold=3 where cust_id=1
What I am seeing happenning is any update on the base table will triger mlog entried regardless whether the column is involed in the materialized view or not.
Can someone please confirm if this is the correct behavior and whether there is a way to accomplish what I wanted to do?
Thank you!
Edited by: user3933488 on Jan 8, 2010 12:53 PMYou created the materialized view logs with some columns, which is not necessary when creating a join MV on top of them. You can happily skip those in your MV log definition. And then it becomes clear that those columns are not involved in the decision whether a MV log needs to be updated or not. Everything that happens to the base table gets recorded. The "WITH ROWID" and "INCLUDING NEW VALUES" and the column list only specify WHAT should be recorded when something changed.
