Is my clip interlaced or non-interlaced?

Is there a way in PP that I can find this info, or is there another product that will give me this info? I am running CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit PC.

  • Reset multiple images' clipping paths to "None"

    In InDesign CS4, is there a way to check all images at once and reset their clipping paths to "none?" I work on catalogs that have several thousand photos (tif, Photoshop, and a few jpg files) in each one. We break the catalogs into approximately 10 sections/documents then organize them into a book file/palette, so there are only a few hundred images in each section/document. Originally a clipping path was applied to the photos (either a Photoshop clipping path or a "detect edges" path), but we now save them with transparency, so I'd like to be able to turn them all of at once (especially the "detect edges" paths).
    Any suggestions? I know basically nothing about scripting, so writing a script wouldn't work in this case.
    I appreciate any help...
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    I'm not sure.
    Isn't it a collection up to this:
    docs[l].rectangles.everyItem().images.everyItem()
    from this point it's got a length:
    docs[l].rectangles.everyItem().images.everyItem().clippingPath
    So this works here:
    #target indesign
    function main() {
              var docs = app.documents.everyItem().getElements(),
                        l = docs.length;
              while(l--) {
                        try {
                                cPaths =  docs[l].rectangles.everyItem().images.everyItem().clippingPath;
                                pl = cPaths.length;
                                while(pl--){
                                    cPaths[pl].clippingType = ClippingPathType.NONE;
                        } catch(e) {
                                  alert(e);
                        alert('All done! You can go outside and play now!')
    app.doScript('main()', undefined, undefined, UndoModes.entireScript, 'Reset Clipping');

  • All Smoothcammed Clips Interlaced Backward?

    Compressing a bunch of 1080i footage down to DVD, I find that all Smoothcammed clips appear to be interlaced backward! That even though the non-smoothcammed clips seem fine. Anybody seen anything like that before?
    This all comes back to earlier discussions, notably
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2270427&tstart=0
    it sounds like the only way to keep Smoothcammed sequences from becoming spontaneously unrendered is to re-export them as QT movies, and import them back in. I discovered that they seem to always be interlaced backward when I export them. When I import them back in, they seem to often get contorted further (possibly scanlines going from 0 1 2 3 to something like 3 1 2 0, but I'm not sure).

    I think I understand now what's really going on: It's not really getting interlaced backward. It's just that, as Smoothcam makes adjustments for shake, it has no choice but to adjust the two fields of the frame separately. When it does so, we get flicker galore.
    I wish I had a 1080p camera! Maybe for those sorts of shots, I should shoot in ... well, whatever is the largest frame size my cameras can shoot in, non-interlaced.

  • Digitizing Pre-Logged Clips: Drop Frame/Non-Drop Frame Discrepency

    I have about 100hrs of DV NTSC footage that has been logged and now I need to capture it.
    Everything seemed good to go:
    • I ctrl+click the clip intended to capture
    • Select 'batch capture' (it initializes)
    • Settings are (apple setting) DV NTSC 48kHz
    • I click okay and I get an error message that reads:
    "WARNING: You are about to capture drop-frame media to a non-drop frame clip. If you proceed, you may experience changes in logged in and out points, problems relinking media, or removal of master clip relationships."
    Now, the setting noted above is set at 29.97 not 30.
    I tried to see if there was anything I could select/deselect in the logged clips and came up dry.
    I made duplicated the apple setting and changed the fps to 30. This yielded no error message but did on the second clip I tried.
    Does anyone have any idea on how I should be troubleshooting this?
    Due to the high volume of footage, and workflow schedule, I'd really rather not screw this up.
    I turn to you my faithful FCP gurus.
    Thanks.
    Ian
    p.s. I'm running FCP v.5.1.4

    Just check your timecode accuracy before you get any further... i.e. does the timecode in the captured clip match the code that's on the tape. If so, you're good to go on... if not, I'd recapture using the proper TC... it's pretty easy if you do it from the tape in the Log and Capture window.

  • 'ken burns' poor quality interlacing jagged

    This post is to document issues with 'Ken Burns' rendering in Final Cut Express 4 and some workarounds and possible bugs in software I found.
    Similar posts about this issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/5207261#5207261
    When I import images into final cut express and  apply keyfram effects with panning and zooming a.ka. the 'Ken Burns Effect' I find that image quality is very poor. This occurs in most BUT NOT ALL images in viewer and canvas windows as well as rendered footage.  The video issues are severe interlacing artifacts (horizontal blurry lines) as well as motion jitter along edges.
    Many other users on the web suggested the following, which did not work for me:
    -Avoid using JPEG files because their compression introduces artifacts which causes problems for Final Cut
    I have found both JPEG and TIFFs have trouble with Ken Burns, although I do have certain TIFFs that seem to work.
    -Using different software to render ken burns panning.
    This seems silly to me.  I find that the integration of  pan,zoom necessary for fine tuning during editing.  This would be extremely time consuming to separately generate each pan/zoom clip and import. I have heard that some software has high-end smoothing, but I am satisfied with the images that do pan and zoom correctly in Final cut.
    -Adjusting Field Dominance in the clip properties to none
    this was already set on my clips
    -Adjust render settings.
    I saw a 1001 rendering 'recipes' offered up to fix image pan/zoom issues. None worked
    Things I discovered
    Ken burns effect looked great when the image was in a transition, but bad when it was not.  For example: Imagine a 5 second cross dissolve between regular video and ken burns motion image.  When image becomes clearly visible in the latter 2.5 seconds of the transition it looks excellent while panning/zooming. When the transition finishes there is a sudden change to poor quality in the pan/zoom.
    -The render bar on top of the timeline is dark-green for good-looking images, which according to the final cut manual, means 'no render necessary'
    -There was nothing special about these render-not-necessary images that I could find in resolution, settings, etc.
    -Good looking images were jpegs, gifs, and tiffs
    I tried converting other images and reimporting, no luck
    -I can make the ken burns look good for all images by playing the movie in the canvas window and setting it 99% zoom.
    Any zoom level other than 100% looks good.
    -This seems like a bug to me.
    Eventually I just used a screen recording application called screenflow to capture my video playing in canvas window at 99% in real time.
    This worked.
    Hopefully someone can explain why rendered images never look good and what format works to get the dark green line and avoid rendering all together and these problems.
    I don't mind converting file formats beforehand as long as they work well

    The render bar on top of the timeline is dark-green for good-looking images, which according to the final cut manual, means 'no render necessary'
    This is misleading. It simply means rendering is not necessary for playback. It does NOT mean that the material does not need to be rendered.
    100% zoom level is as close to how your video actually looks that a computer monitor can display.
    You never said what format you're working in.
    You always have to render still images. You're making video, and they're not video.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs + Creative Alchemy + Halo: Combat Evolved= Sound Clipping

    Hi, I have just installed the Audigy 2 zs in my windows 7 32bit system which is an upgrade to my old Live! 5.1 digital. Before install of the new sound card I removed all previous drivers and software that pertained to the old card. Then installed the Audigy 2 card with latest official drivers and the latest version of Alchemy. Everything went well except when playing Halo: CE for PC, When playing in game with sound acceleration and EAX on I am getting what I can only call sound clipping when there is a lot of sounds being heard or I should say supposed to be heard, I am only hearing part of them with a clip and sometimes none of them. During the Start Menu the sounds come out fine, it only happens in game with a lot of stuff going on such as in the middle of a battle or just firing the assault rifle on full auto. I tried playing around with the settings in Alchemy but that did not work. I never had this problem with the Live! 5.1 card. Any and all help would be appreciated

    I found this:
    https://halo.bungie.net/Forums/posts...1-p=1#10350046
    Install aLchemy.
    Go to install location of aLchemy (default is C:\Program Files(x86)\aLchemy\) and add this into the "aLchemy.ini" file:
    [Halo]
    RegPath=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Micr osoft Games\Halo\EXE Path
    Duration=5
    [Halo CE]
    RegPath=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Micr osoft Games\Halo CE\EXE Path
    Duration=5
    Two sugestions:
    1. Experiment with the settings;
    2. Use old Alchemy (take a look PM...).

  • I can't get clipping mask to work

    I'm adding stars to the sky.  I did this by making a custom brush and painting on a blank layer above my image layer.  To make it look more realistic I want to add a bit of color.  So I add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and colorize to get the desired hue.  This is where I run into trouble.  I only want the adjustment layer to affect the stars I painted on and not the rest of the image so I apply a clipping mask to the Hue/Saturation layer (which is directly above my stars layer.)  When I do this the color disappears completely and does not affect any part of the image.  Any ideas why this isn't working?  I also had the same problem when I applied a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer.  I have Photoshop CC (same issue is present in both the 2014 and previous versions) for Mac.

    This is my desired end effect.  I worked around it by creating a layer mask from the stars layer but the clipping mask not working is still an issue.
    I created new Hue/Saturation layers and put them above the stars layer.  The adjustment layer changes the color of the entire image including the stars.
    Once I clip the layers none of the image is affected, not even the stars, when it should be affecting only the stars.

  • How do i show time/date stamp at start of each clip

    This may be a camera issue, not imovie, not sure. My (sony dcr-hc21) camera records but doesn't show time/date at start of each clip (my old non-digital camcorder used to show them for a few seconds). is there a way to get imovie to show these time stamps? I'm using imovie 3.0.3.
    emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi r
    There are no stright forward - cost free way to get this to my knowledg.
    - I think You can buy a plug-in for this. (Not sure)
    - A quality redusing way is to copy from camera via analog cable to a
    VHS-VCR then reimport to a fresh miniDV tape and using this. If You
    just want some sec. with date and time You can cut between old and
    new material but the quality change will be more noticable this way.
    - Some people has two miniDV cameras and do an analog connection
    via them. Smart.

  • Will setting sequence field dominance to "NONE" effect resolution?

    First, thanks all for the title help. It looks like i might have it licked. From this point however comes a new question.
    The only way to keep my titles clear and free from flicker is to set the imported livetype .mov file's field dominance to "none" and place it in a sequence that also has a field dominance set to "none". Great. now i need to put the title sequence on my master time line (project time line of 1hr 20min) which exists in a sequence set to the standard field dominance of "Lower" and which is made up of an hour and a half worth of clips that are all set to "lower" as well.
    My question(s) is this-
    While i understand what field dominance is doing as an upper and lower, what does none do?
    Currently the project (under the settings above) is rendering as i have changed the master sequence's FD setting to none. I haven't changed the individual clip settings to none due to my ignorance on the issue, only the title sequence has the same settings. Put another way- I'm currently rendering a sequence that has its field dominance set to "none". On this sequence, i have several clips that have their field dominance set to "lower", and one clip (my livetype title clip) has its field dominance set to "none". I've done all this in order to prevent flicker on my livetype scrolling titles.
    Q: Should i do this?
    Q: Will i suffer a loss of resolution on the clips that have a field dominance that is different from their sequence?
    Q: Will keeping them different effect the export and eventual dvd burn of the project?

    Your better off NOT making a movie from LiveType, but importing the LiveType project file and rendering in FCP. Leave your field dominance settings to match your clips. If you set to NONE, that is for Progressive scanned footage. You will lose clarity on your clips. But don't just ask and listen here... do it. Change the sequence from Lower to None and look very closely at a still frame. You will see that you have lost the "jaggies" but at the cost of edge clarity.

  • Using avchd clips from a canon cam - finally figured it out

    hello happy forumers,
    a few weeks ago I posted looking for help in getting premiere pro to recognize the correct frame rate of the clips I imported from my canon vixia HF11 avchd cam. the problem was: the 24 fps clips were listed as 29.97 in the project window; consequently, they played fine in a source "audition" window, but when put into a 24f sequence window they stuttered.
    I thought that the stuttering was because premiere thought the clips were 29.97 and the sequence was set at 24, so it was trying to compensate as it went. I was partially right in that a mismatch was the cause, but not the mismatch I thought.
    turns out that the canon hf11, hf10 and some of the sony cams don't really shoot in true 24f progressive. they have a SETTING called 24p, as well as a 30p, BUT, in actual fact they are STILL SHOOTING AT 60i (interleaved) but affecting some sort of a 24frames "look". Without getting into how much that pisses me off since neither canon nor anyone in any store will tell you this, the correct sequence setting to use when working with these clips is 60i non-anamorphic.
    you can also fool premiere into treating the clips as 24p clips by right clicking on the file, selecting interpret footage - setting it to 23.976 and in the field order selecting no fields, but then they run in slo-mo, unless I'm doing something wrong.
    I hope this saves some of you the months of nail-chewing I went through trying to edit your avchd video on an underpowered system.....
    gh

    hello kaiserboy
    not sure what you're asking. as far as I've been told, the 24fp settings are not true 24 in any way shape or form, they're 60i, plain and simple, with some sort of 24 simulation. following is the email I got from dhelmly - a top gun for premiere development at adobe.
    as far as my experience working with the clips for the last few weeks, I'm having great luck working in a 60i non-anamorphic sequence, and exporting in whatever format I choose - mostly h264 mp4. it looks great - I'm very happy with the output quality, although I get a few artifacts when viewing my clips before export. I assume this is due to my system being underpowered (a macbook pro).
    regarding drives, I've discovered that the smoothest playback comes when using my laptop's internal drive, followed closely by a cheapo USB2 drive! lastly by any firewire 800 drive, which skips and stutters unacceptably - raid or not. go figure.
    "Your camera actually shoots in 60i not 24 frames (23.976) It's really more of an effect than a frame rate. However - you can fake out Premiere to match the Canon effect. Choose the AVCHD>1080P@24 FPS Preset. Import your footage from the Media Browser by dragging the clips from the browser to you Project Bin. Next select a clip and Right Mouse Click and choose Interpret Footage, select the Assume this Frame rate option and change to 23.976 (not 24) and in the same dialog window choose Field Order>No Fields Progressive Scan. Now when you drag the clip the to the sequence it should not Redline and it should give you the 24 frame look. if it Redlines then a setting is off. I tried it here on my mac and the Canon HF10 and it worked fine.Keep in mind that the actual footage is 60i(or 59.94 to be exact). canon and Sony both have these 24 Frame look modes. The Panasonic 150 does native 24 but is much more $$. Always remember to use the Media Browser when working with Tapeless Media. We rely on onthe XML data in those folder to tell us more about the files. More cool stuff coming - lots going on in the lab. AVCHD playback will bet much better as we get to true 64 bit (OSX 10.6 & Win7) and GPU. The next gen stuff I'm seeing in the labs now is totally amazing -I've been hear nearly14 years and a Premiere user for nearly 19 years and I'm blown away - Not due out for while yet but it will be worth the wait. Mac & Win users will very happy indeed."

  • How can I lock video clips to the timeline?

    Hello Apple discussion.
    I know that holding down the command key disable ripping when triming.
    But that doesn't work when deleting clips. It would be useful to lock videoclips to the timeline, so they keep their position.
    Lock audio to playhead doesn't help the situation.
    Thank you for your time
    Attila

    You cannot lock a video clip to the timeline. The program is designed so that when you delete a video clip, the other clips slide over to fill the gap. Otherwise you would have holes all over your project, or have to manually move them over. You would want to lock the audio clips to the non-deleted video clips, so that the audio slides over with them.
    If you want to preserve the gap left by a deleted video clip, first insert in front of it a black clip of the same exact duration, and then delete the video clip. The black clip would hold all of the other clips in position, but leave you with a black hole to fill or delete. To make a black clip, separate two video clips on the timeline, and control-click on the empty space. In the resulting drop down menu, select Convert Empty Space to Clip. Then control-click on the black clip and in the resulting window adjust the time duration by overwriting the values in the time box and then clicking the Set button.

  • Capturing drop & non + combining the two in a FCP project

    First off, please excuse what I'm sure are pretty 101 type questions, if you could please shed some light on this I'd appreciate it. I'm capturing a series of NTSC DV tapes in FCP 6 in which some appear to have been shot at 29df and others at 29ndf, so these are my questions:
    1) It doesn't appear that upon capturing, FCP allows you to make a choice between capturing 29.97df or 29.97ndf, it just has 29.97 period. Does this mean it looks to the code on the tape to decide whether it's drop or non-drop?
    2) Are there any potential issues in combining drop and non in a single timeline as long as they're both 29.97?
    3) If I know I'm never going back to the tape again and my new master is my capture, is there any issue in forcing the clip to have non-drop code in Modify>Timecode to keep it consistent with the 95% of my other footage which is non-drop?
    Thanks, I really appreciate the help.
    Roert

    No problem. It's a rather confusing subject.
    Answers:
    1. Yes, it looks to the code on the tape. Every frame on the tape already has a number assigned to it whether in drop or non-drop form. You really wouldn't want FCP to just make up numbers; you wouldn't be able to re-capture otherwise.
    2. You shouldn't have any problems with combining the two. It's just a way of counting frames. Nothing else.
    3. If you aren't going back to tape, you could modify the code, but why? It won't make any difference in your editing. Again, it's just a way of counting frames.

  • Premiere CC - Merge Clips repeatable bug crash!

    I have been editing a feature film since the start of this week and have found a huge bug and proble with Premiere CC. This has been repeatable for me every time.
    I am working on a brand new install of windows 8, all updated, and 64GB of RAM.
    I am working with Epic footage shot 5k 2.4:1
    Sound was recorded as separate WAV files each video clip has either 1, 2 or 3 mono WAV files (Merged) to them.
    Here is the problem:
    When working with all merged files, everything works fine, but if I try and bring in any clip that is not a merged file things get crazy. I can work fine unless I select or try to move a merged clip and a non merged clip at the same time. So if I select all on the timeline and only have merged clips, no problem. If there is even one non merged clip on the timeline and I select all, I get an instant Premiere Pro CC has encountered an error, and closes out premiere.
    My temporary workaround:
    If I merge an audio file, like a music file/ ADR or sound effect with a color slug, and just select the audio file to bring into the timeline, everything is fine.
    Same goes with video clips. If I have an MOS clip, I can simply merge it to any random audio file, then just bring in the video file and everything works fine. I can select the whole timeline and nothing crashes. But if I forget even once, Boom Premiere shuts down. . . very frustrating.
    Thanks for any insight that may be provided in this situation
    Stefan

    Hi Kevin,
    Unfortunately, no audio syncing occurred with multi-cam on 2 different formats (MPG and MP4). I did find out how to view the multi-cam sequence though.... You need to have the track with the multi-cam sequence selected.  If it's not selected, the preview window is blank.
    But Premiere still can't sync audio with all formats I've tried.

  • Mark in and out point on non-primary storyline

    Ok - I must be missing something... How do I mark and in and out point in a non-primary storyline?
    Say, I want to replace part of a non-primary storyline with gap... The only way I've seen to do that would be to blade the clip in the non-primary storyline into three parts and 'delete' the middle bit out, which is what marking an 'in' and 'out' and pressing 'delete' is the accelerated way of doing it in the primary storyline.

    Yes I know.
    The thing with markers (M) is that these are always placed on the primary storyline, except if you selected a clip in the non-primary storyline. So I don't know why you must first select the Range Selection tool to make in's and out's. Why don't it works just as the markers do.

  • No audio Playback on certain clips?...

    The last two clips of people talking of my FCP video do not playback. I had voices talking over music and the music still plays back in these parts but not the other audio. Audio plays back in the viewer. I have tried deleting the clip and re-dragging it into the timeline , I have also tried different clips ...none work.

    I actually figured it out for anyone having a similar issue.....i think!
    If you look at the item properties and it says MONO instead of RIGHT LEFT ...you need to double click on the audio clip and make sure both LEVEL and PAN are set at "0"
    This fixed my problem so far
