Is my Playstation 3D Display Defective?

I barely received my Playstation 3D Display ~2 weeks ago.
For the first 2 days, my screen would go black for a second or two while playing a game. This happened 4 times within 2 days. Recently It's happened 3 times back to back, literally 5 seconds apart. And maybe another 2-3 times. The sound seems to play fine when the screen goes black.
Also, one time I was playing a game and switched one of the sound presets. I switched to Dynamic and the audio immediately started crackling and screeching loudly. I switched it back to Standard and haven't tried to switch the settings since because I'm scared of the speakers breaking. As well as the fact that I use headphones for gaming, but it sucks because I wanted to use the speakers for movies and TV.
Is mine defective? I read that some people had their display completely fail on them after a few days.

  • Brand New Iphone 5s Home Screen display defect

Here goes my ordeal with my Iphone 5s upgrade
After waiting in line for over an hour I purchased the Iphone 5s yesterday at Best Buy (Stonebriar, Frisco, TX). Later that evening, I noticed that when the time was 5:36, the home screen display was not showing the digit 6. Instead it showed a blur. I then changed the time manually to 6:36 and then to 6:43 and each time there was a digit 6 the display showed a blur instead. I must note that the phone was sitting in the grass which was a little moist (which I believe was the causing the issue). I immediately went back to the Best Buy location where I purchased the phone and requested a replacement after showing the defect. The store manager wanted me to wait in the line and I refused to do so (they sold me a defective phone so I did not see a reason why I had to go in that line all over again when it was just a replacement!). Anyways, after a tiff with the manager I left that store with my defective phone.
Next day, I went to the Apple store (Willowbend mall, Plano). I was greeted by genteleman at the entrance of the store who nicely asked if he could help. The moment I told him I suspected my new Iphone 5s was defective he said 'What!!' and made an expression of disbilief. Funny! I was asked to go to another peson who was standing and waving his hand further inside the store. I go to him and explain to him the problem and when I try to demonstrate it does not happen! Oh dear! Luckily I had enough screenshots in store and I showed them all to the store clerk.  He then tells me that he can take the phone in for me and get it 'repaired'! In disbilief I ask him if he meant 'Replaced'? He says no, they will try to repair it first - he further speculates saying they will try a restore or maybe a front glass replacement and that if they still can't fix it, Apple will then replace the phone. In exasperation I tried to explain to him that the problem happened yesterday and then today it can't doesn't seem to happen, while adding that it is a brand NEW phone I purchased less than 24 hours ago and that I still am under the 14 day time-frame. I explain to him kindly that I would not be able to verify the fix (Apple does a restore or even changes the glass and returns me the phone and I must believe that the problem was fixed?? - Hel No!) and its not so nice to hear from Apple that they can't take responsibility for a defective product. He kindly says sorry and explains that it is policy and that they have to try to repair first. Oh how I wish I could've gotten Apple to sign my policy document for my money...sigh..don't work like that! So I left Apple and ran across to Best Buy mobile store asking for a replacement. The guy says Best Buy mother store and Best Buy Mobile store keep there own stock during holidays and he can't help. Sweet! I drive down 10 miles and go to a different Best Buy 'Mother' store and of course I'm asked to stand in the line. I swallow my pride and become a part of the line. My turn comes and again I explain the problem and of course the Best Buy clerk says 'Did you try a restore?' What!! Anyways, after a bit of reasoning (cribbing) with a couple of Best Buy agents, I was able to get them to replace my Iphone 5s (and of course they didn't have a gold color so I had to settle for the space gray..not a big deal though as long as this one is not defective also!)
So anybody had this display issue? Issue with Apple customer service?
    Rs,
    GH

Well they offered to do everything they could to work with you on the device....You are right in saying that the offered what they 'could'. Unfortunately what they could was tied by company policy.
Just like being human there are times things just go wrong- 2 out 2 IPhones 5s in 2 days! I hope people are doing better :-p
You fought against people at the store level who have /zero/ control over policy and had their hands tied by what theri bosses tell them to do. Agreed. I left instead of fighting. Unfortunately they are the first line of support and a manager maybe as far I'd get. Would love to chat with Steve Jobs but I guess now there is only one way for that :-p
They not only rushed you to get service to repair the device but you didn't even do any troubleshooting of your own to try to repair it. Now what if a restore had fixed your issue, you would have kept your device, your color, and what you paid for... - I disagree. If you read my original post, the problem happened the same evening I bought the phone. When I went to Apple I was not able to reproduce the issue. So you tell me how do I verify that restore fixed it? Wait and watch? After 14 days I can't even return the phone. The other speculation made by the rep was changing the glass. I would not try that for obvious reasons.
Why /wouldn't/ you try to repair something before spending your gas/time to replace it the moment something is amiss.
    hmmm..
Now the 2nd new phone makes a rattling sound. Something is loose inside..I'd rather spend gas/time and return it than get them 'repair' it or give me a refurbished phone! Why? Because I can at this point and still get a new one with possibly no defects(fingers crossed) or I could find a company that makes better quality products :-p

  • MacBook Pro display defect?

    Hi!
I brought my first gen core2duo 15" MacBook Pro (March 2007.. I think) to an Apple store genius bar today. It has the SAME defect as shown in pics in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9955601
Unfortunately, I did not take pics of mine. I am a paraplegic for life, high level, wheelchair, and get bed ridden a lot, so the MBP has been a good friend. But, I was called a liar at the sotre today, and told that there was no way that the damage was due to anything but water damage, and therefor AppleCare would not cover it. I was so ticked off, and had no idea what to do. I asked them to please send it in, and that way I could have official documentation at least.
I have not ever had any type of liquid anywhere near my MBP. My apartment is small, and kept at 65-72 degrees F, low humidity. It is only used when I am stuck in bed, sometimes for a day or three. It sits on a shelf at night to charge, and gets placed on a hospital table for me to use. It has gone nowhere else, never been abused, dropped, etc. Almost like new!
It also has the battery issue (battery shows charged, but MBP will simply shut off, even with more than half a charge showing!), and the dvd drive does not write properly all the time (fails about 75-80% of the time). They said the battery simply ran out of life, not covered. And the dvd drive.. if they determine the display to be liquid damage, the dvd drive will not be tested. They also said that they will simply and ONLY open it, turn it on, look at the screen, and immediately assess it as being liquid damage. WHAT?!?!?
Are there any other occurrences of this... defect? I will gladly take a polygraph. It is NOT water/liquid damage, but no one at the store would believe me. I had a friend bring me there today, and they are ready to sell their MBP and iphone now after the horrible treatment. Any help in tracking down other cases would be HUGELY appreciated! Thank you!

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you are having. It seems you are dealing with a less than normal quality level Apple store. You need to contact Apple Customer Relations at: (800) 767-2775. These are not the same folks that you would normally talk to for support questions and they have a bit more authority in these matters. Water damage can not definitively be determined without opening up the machine. Even if there is something on the surface of your machine caused by water or other fluid, that does not automatically mean it went into your machine and caused a problem. They need to examine the machine to make that determination. Just be aware... just as in the post you linked to... it does "appear" to be similar to water damage. So that is what they are going to think first. If you are sure it is not due to water damage, you need to stand your ground. But be understanding in that their first impression was the problem was caused by water or other fluid.

  • Month display defective

When I display March, the current month, and each of the next few months, all events are where they're supposed to be. If I move back to February, almost all days are empty. Only days in the first and last week of February display any events, and some of them are on the wrong day. If I display any week in February, the missing events appear on the correct day and time. Moving back to January is worse: the whole month is empty, but, once again, when I display any week, it's correct.
Has anybody had this problem? It doesn't seem to be an operator or configuration problem, so how could something so gross slip past quality control?

I did what Tom did: I changed the time zone from Zurich to Geneva. Obviously, both cities are in the same time zone – having to change to a really different time zone would be no solution at all, no? The error persisted, so I changed back to Zurich.
In the threads to which you refer, the suggestion to delete the iCal plist doesn't seem to have alleviated the problem, so I haven't tried that. I did notice this, though: If I move forward to April, everything is OK. Moving from April directly to February causes all events and appointmnents to disappear, the same as when I moved from March to January. Apparently, the number of months that I move back has an influence on how many events disappear, but only if I move to a month before March. Moving from April back to March is OK. Since March is the month in which my current zone changes from winter to summer time, I can well imagine that the phenomenon has something to do with that.
    Regards,
    Richard

  • One pixel vertical line on new iMac 24" display - defective?

I have a one pixel vertical line that is fairly constant on my new (one week old) 24" iMac -- it sits there between the Edit and View mens mocking me, and runs the length (well, height) of the screen.
I've tried changing resolutions and resetting the SMC and neither seemed to do anything. My guess is it's defective, so I'm probably looking at a trip to our nearby Apple Store... the only thing is, I don't want to be without my computer for an extended period of time, since I use it for work and everything.
Is this the sort of thing that the Apple Store could order the new part and do the swap in house? If they replace the whole unit, could I put the existing HD in it? (of course the defect shows up right after I migrate and do all my upgrades, installs and patches)

I recently just had the LCD on my 24" imac replaced due to a stuck pixel. Without even bringing my imac into the apple store i told one of the genius bar associates about my problem and they ordered the LCD without even seeing my computer. They then called me when it came in and i took it down there for it to be replaced. I took it on a monday morning and i went and picked it up on tuesday. It is an in house repair so as long as they are not super busy you should not have to be without it for to long. I would try what i did, go in their without your imac first and tell them your issue and see if they will order the part. That way your not leaving your imac there while they order the part in.

  • Nokia C7 Display Defect

    Hi,
I have a Nokia C7-00 that was purchased SIM free and unbranded in Germany, with which I'm experiencing distinct colour banding / gradient problems. It is also common on Nokia N8 displays. I'll try to describe my problem:
The first tell tale sign of the issue seems to be a common one: A purplish tint on the top half of the screen saver clock (visible when the phone is keylocked and then the menu key is pressed).
As time has passed by since first noticing this problem- I have also noticed that videos and images that are predominantly dark are also having issues being displayed properly. The effect being similar to if the image was being shown on a screen with limited colours, for example, if you set your computer screen to display only 16bit colours.  In areas of images that black is supposed to fade into lighter colours, the image is completely off.
There is an active discussion about this problem on another forum:
    http://www.nokiausers.net/forum/nokia-n8/39462-i-think-nokia-using-two-different-types-screen-n8-may...
I have attached pictures of my screen with the problem.
I have contacted Nokia care and they have no input other than re-installing my firmware (which is impossible to do anyway- as they seem to have provided me with inaccurate instructions- there is no way to re-install my firmware via Ovi Suite or the handset)
    Any help?
I've since moved away from Germany and from what I understand my 2 year warranty is only valid in Europe...
Attachment 1 is supposed to be black to white squares in increasing gradient
Attachment 2 is supposed to be black into white, but on my display somehow a brown/purple tint is in between the black and white
Attachment 3 is the screensaver clock that is supposed to be black, but on my screen the top half is displayed with a purple hue
Here is an image of two Nokia N8's from someone experiencing the same display characteristics as my C7, and one with a good display. The problem can be seen better in these images:

hi guys my n8 has this issue too
iam not impressed by it and have contacted nokia on facebook , twitter , email and phone yet they dont seem the least bit intrested at the minute
i have even got a nokia tech from a nsc to report it to them via correct channels yet nokia dont seem to care about this
it happends when colours fade into each other or get lighter , main colours are white/grey/black and these turn to a purple/red colour just like in the pictures above
ive also had another n8 and it didnt have this problem , my girlfriend has a n8 too and is on the same product code etc and the screens are so different it is unreal
i thin nokia might be using two screens on the n8 too meet demand as amoled screens are in demand at the minute so maybe they have sourced another froma  differnt amoled maker
i cant see any other reason for the difference in image quality between my girlfriends and my screen , same product code , same firmware , same theme and settings yet the results are so different its worrying
forget using the n8 to watch videos if you have one of these screens with a purple tint as the blacks/whites/greys will look purple and ruin the film etc
my video playing has gone from watching dvd quality to watch a dodgy pirate with pixelation and purple tints and banding
id like to see more users post up here so nokia can see there is a bit of a problem and start looking into it as at the minute they dont seem fussed
perhaps people havent noticed the purple tint but if you have seen one with a proper screen and then one with a puple tint you can easily spot the difference the screen quality is no where near as good as the ones without tints , coliurs are deeper richer and nicer to view on the screen wihout the tint
iam waiting for another n8 to turn up today as a replacement if it has the purple screen too i will be extremley gutted and a unhappy n8 user even though its my dream device itll feel tainted because of the screen

  • Extremely disturbing display defect (photo)

    Hi there.
Since installing the Apple iMac Graphics Firmware (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307008) the following strange display fault occurs from time to time on my Aluminium iMac 24" machine:
    Image: !http://idisk.mac.com/baeuml/Public/Pictures/Skitch/Grab_4-20071117-163956.jpg!
    Image: !http://idisk.mac.com/baeuml/Public/Pictures/Skitch/Grab_2-20071117-164101.jpg!
Colorful lines and sectors all over the screen, sometimes in windows frames and also color-distortions in the menu bar or where icons should be.
It goes away when opening new windows or hiding applications.
    What is that?

  • IMac display defect

The iMac display shows a gray shadow in the upper left corner. It came up after approx 1 year of every day use.
First time apple service provider replaced the display as a garantee service. Now same situation occures again.
Is it a known fault of iMac displays (brought End of 2009)?

"I had to buy a brand new machine"
"I thought I'd get a new machine automatically through Applecare"
    jodyr,
You HAD to buy a new one? Not allowed to get it repaired? Or are you referring to your location as being too far from an AASP?
AppleCare is for service and support, not replacement machines. An AppleCare buyer may never use AppleCare if they're lucky, but if needed for an iMac, it's usually a good return on the cost.

  • What is causing a sound problem with new Cinema Display 27 ?

My new 27 Cinema Display intermittently won't play sound when connected to my MB Pro. Restarting the computer doesn't fix it, and all the display audio settings are correct etc. Phoned Apple Support and the fix was to unplug the power from the back of the cinema display to reset the screen controller. This keeps happening - is this a software bug ? Hardware problem ? Is it fixable or something that is a legacy of the 24 inch cinema display problems ? I really like the screen size but don't want a display that I keep having to plug/unplug in order to watch hulu, play itunes etc. Apple won't declare my screen to be defective even though this has happened a few times but can't tell me how to fix the problem either. Am going to send it back for a refund - don't know whether a different display will have the same problem or if this is a generic cinema display defect. Thanks for any insight.

There are threads in this forum and MacRumors where numerous people are having this issue. When I contacted support they had me reload the software update and reset the power. I am encouraging everyone to contact Apple every time it happens so we can get a fix for the problem. It is the general consensus that this is a software issue that can be corrected if we can get Apple to work on it. I agree with you I expect my $1000 monitor to work properly all the time.

  • Screen defect of new GT60 2OD

    Hi,
first off, this is by far the best system I have owned so far.
Unfortunately I just got a display defect, I have 2 lines, a red one vertical and a larger white line (varying pixels wide) horizontally running across my display.
I did the following to narrow it down to specific components:
    - system works flawlessly via HDMI on an external screen, even with heavy duty applications, therefor no hardware error on GeForce side. (Using it to write this post)
    - lines show up right from the beginning, even on the BIOS screen, therefore no strange display driver issue.
    - No change regarding the issue when changing the angle of the lid, so cable is unlikely the root cause.
Therefore my assumption is that the panel is actually defect and needs to be replaced.
Unfortunately the notebook is just 10 days old and my primary workstation, so is there anything MSI can help me with as this book is really brand new? Or do I have to remove the larger HDD (need to keep a 2x back-up for my work) and send it in for repairs for and unknown period of time? I live in Seattle and could only find a MSI repair center in CA.
Any help or input would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Sorry to see this happen on such a great piece of hardware. But it happens to the best of us. I had my GX60 for 3 months before my HDD failed unexpectedly...
This could be a series of things. Could be a faulty panel or something just came loose in the laptop. Hard to say just by looking at it. But it is good you narrowed it down so you know root cause.
The first thing you can try to do is to return it to the store and ask for a new one. Sometimes the retail store you purchase it from has its own replacement policy for faulty products, especially during the early stages of owning it.
Otherwise you will have to submit an RMA to MSI to get it fixed. If the warranty policy is anything like the one here in Australia, MSI should arrange for a courier service to pick it up and send it back to you, free of charge. But I would suggest checking your warranty policy and find out how they handle RMAs in the US. It's possible the RMA policy is different.
    Hi,
I just checked with their service hotline. It is a little different here. I am responsible for shipping (incl. costs for package and insurance). It will then take them up to 14 business days to repair it.
They verified that I can remove the hard disk to secure my data and keep it during the time of the repair. It is OK to break the seal (they pointed out that this applies to USA/Canada only) but I will be responsible if I break stuff inside (which makes sense).
So I am rather disappointed that, if I want my $2000 laptop repaired after 10 days due to a hardware defect, I have to pay for that.
I now reached out to the store I bought it from, to see what they can do.
To be honest, if this is their standard policy for repair I will not buy another MSI notebook if the store gives me a full refund. It's disappointing!

  • Colored vertical lines on PB 17" display

There is a lot of documentation on various websites and discussion boards about 17" Powerbooks with displays that break down after about 15 months of use.
I am unfortunate enough to own a 17" powerbook assembled in April 2005 in China - serial number beginning with W8. I believe this is the same time-period and factory location where hundreds (if not thousands) of identical machines were assembled that are now having the same colored-lines-in-the-display defect as my machine.
All these machines assembled at the same time, at the same place, using the same batch of LCD screens, are experiencing the same defect after the same amount of use.
Something stinks, and it smells like a manufacturing problem to me.
Does anyone know if Apple has man'd up and acknowledged the problem yet?
    17" Powerbook G4 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Repair costs anywhere from $400-$900 USD. I've heard of a case where someone had their screen repaired, but the same problem occured 90 days later--outside repair warranty!
I really hope Apple does a recall on defective G4 screens. I've been an intense supporter of Apple products, recommending them to all of my friends and collegues. In the last 2 years I've purchased:
    G4 17" Powerbook
    Black Macbook
    30Gig IPod Video
    4G 40 Gig Ipod
    (2) IPod Shuffles....
I've got a Compaq Laptop that I purchased over 10 years ago. Although it's archaic by today's standards, all of the hardware still works as it should!
My Powerbook is less then 2 years old, and the screen's showing signs of decay..........
    Please restore my faith Apple!

  • Genius bar, used MacBook pro, and registration

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 13" 2010 model on craigslist.
It was less than 2 months old, came with receipt and still under AppleCare warranty of course.
I re-registered the device during a clean install of snow leopard and also using the apple.com registration page. I received an email confirming my registration.
I noticed a problem with the display, so I scheduled a genius bar appointment at the nearest Apple Store (Knoxville, about 90 miles from my home). On my way out of town for a trip I went to my appointment in Knoxville on 04/08/2011. The genius was friendly and acknowledged a display defect. He made a work order under warranty. Since I live 90 mes away we decided to ship it to a repair center and have it shipped to my home address. He asked for my shipping and billing addresses and I signed the work authorization.
Here's where it gets really really bad. Last night I decided to check the status of the the repair. I pulled out the copy of the "Genius Bar Work Authorization" and to my horror under "customer information" there was the name and address of the previous owner. The phone number was mine but everything else was his. I called the Knoxville Apple Store and they said I'd have to come in to discuss this face to face. I'm in North Carolina unfortunately. Will be back tomorrow. So I called AppleCare. I spoke with Stephanie who discussed this with me and proceeded to look up the repair order. Sure enough the wrong shipping address was listed. My address was listed under billing address, however. She proceeded to re-register the device's serial # under my info and change the shipping address.
I want to believe her and trust that my MacBook Pro will return to me but I'm uneasy for a number of reasons. When I login under my Apple ID it shows no pending repairs and no MacBook pro under my registered devices on the Express Lane site. I can look it up by entering the repair # and the serial # but it's not tied to my Apple ID.
What should I do? It still says shipment pending.
Should I trust Stephanie that she properly changed the address?
Should I go to the Knoxville Apple Store with my original receipt showing I'm the owner?

I guess I deserve to have this happen because I bought "second-hand." So thanks for that judgement. That's obviously what I came here for.
I appreciate the replies. Just posting to get advice from others who may have similarly experienced problems with Apple and shipping addresses, customer info, etc.
I took your advice and got on the phone. I called the Apple Store in Knoxville and got someone who was more helpful than when I tried yesterday. He looked up the repair number and checked the info. He confirmed that it was incorrect and asked me for my name, address, and email address. He assured me that it was corrected and my MBP wouldn't end up in Texas and lost forever. I'm still a bit nervous, though.
