Is the ipod capable of transferring data...

i have itunes on xp but just bought an imac and want to transfer the music. is it possible for the ipod to store all the songs on disk (using it like a hard drive) then upload them all to the itunes on the imac? (i would just try doing it myself but the computer isn't set up yet)

Well yes... but there could also be a no.
The iPod can be only formatted to support one Operating System. Windows or Mac.
If you want, when you connect your iPod to your mac... hopefully without somehow losing all the songs, use YamiPod to allow you to take the songs off your iPod and onto your Computer. Yamipod is free, and available for Windows and Mac.
Also, you could try burning your data onto a disc (like a cd or something) and transferring your data that way.

After replacing the hard drive on my G4 Powerbook and reinstalling Tiger I am no longer able to synch between itunes and my ipod (Classic 160gb) it would seem that the software on the ipod is of later date than itunes and I am unable to update itunes to the state prior to the original harddrive's failure for Tiger OSX 10.4.11
Any ideas on the subject would be most helpful
    Thanks in advance
    Dingoh

The last security update released for Tiger users was the 2009-005 update. The latest version of QuickTime is 7.6.4. The last version of iTunes that can run on Tiger is 9.2.1, because 10.0 only supports Mac OS X Leopard and later.
So, are you on version 9.2.1?
Was it Tiger or Leopard you had on the drive before?

  • My itunes library has gone following a laptop rebuild.  I do have my iPod which is up to date - can I transfer from the iPod to the library or will the iPod lose all its data if I snyc?

My itunes library has gone and is empty following a laptop rebuild.  I do have my iPod which is up to date with music, photos, apps etc - can I transfer from the iPod Touch to the library or will the iPod lose all its data if I sync to the laptop?  PLEASE HELP!

I'm guessing you've got iPod touch 2nd generation
iPod touch 2nd generation only goes up to 4.2.1, so you'll need a newer generation...
iPod touch 3rd generation only goes up to 5.1.1
4th and 5th generation both go up to iOS 6.1.3, wich is the current latest version.
    Hope this helps

  • What are the alternate methods of transferring data between apps built on ios

    Hi All,
What could be the alternate methods of transferring data between apps built on ios?
    Please comment.
    Thanks
    Pankaj

I'm not aware of any apps that can open pdfs from iBooks, but I could well be wrong. There are a small number of apps that will open pdfs from emails, you can also open pdfs from some applications ike dropbox which has an iOS app so you can access any document you can open on iOS and sync between devices and computers.
Sorry if this is all a little vague, I'm not exactly sure what it is you are asking

  • What is the best approach for transferring DAT to Hard Drive?

    Hi,
I've got 10 60 min DATS of my 1970s rock band transferred from live reel to reel recording of gigs. I want to get rid of the DAT machine on Ebay and before I do get these DATS transferred for storage on CDs or DVDs.
I have an external hard drive to transfer to before burning to disc.
Does it make sense to use Logic Pro to transfer the DATS through the computer to the hard drive? Or is there a better / easier / faster way to do it?
I'll want to go back and find songs later and use Logic Pro to EQ and mix them onto a CD by track at some point.
Each DAT is 60 minutes worth of material and ideally I'd like to be able to run through the transfer and mark where songs start as the "in between" stuff is there also.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hey, thanks for the reply.
    Few more comments....
Could you suggest a Mac stereo editor/recorder.
What is s/pdif? I'm new to computer recording.
Slave recorder to the DAT....I'm hooking the DAT into the iMac through an interface...is this what you mean?
Got you on separate recordings....I want to do that later...Just get the whole tape onto the hard drive then onto a CD or DVD. When I have more time I'll run through and find songs, etc.
    Again, thanks,
    Bob

  • When is the ipod touch 6 release date? urgent

    urgent- need to know asap

Hey Anniejan, "Tomorrow!!" No, not really, just screwing with you. As Niel stated this is the last place Apple will release information about release dates. If you need a new device, "urgent", then your looking at an iPhone or the latest iPad, otherwise it's a dated iPod 5. But the later in the year it gets the less likely there will be a release at all. If you need more information now, try goggle and see what the rumor mill has to say about a release, but there has been nothing official from Apple, in other words, "Your guess is as good as anyone else's." Good luck, Cheers.

  • We bought a 1st gen iPod it's at version 2.2 it says its up to date but when attempting to dl a app it says it needs to be at 4.0. Hooking it up to iTunes says that the iPod is up to date. Please help

Update needed to dl apps but iTunes says its already up to date. It's currently at 2.2 and it needs to be at 4.0

The 1G iPod can only go as high as iOS 3.1.3 that you get here:

  • Made the mistake of not transferring data from my old iphone 3 prior to activating new phone.  I didn't have icloud, etc.  Got contacts, but nothing else.  What r my options?

If you did not backup your "data" then you have no options.
You have to have the data in order to move the data.

  • When is the iPod touch 6G release date? All I know is that it is in October...

I've been on so many websites and they all say something different...some people are saying October 22nd, some say October 16th...I am very confused and would like a definite answer if possible.

That's because the authors of those sites do not know either. They are basically just posting rumors. Most of those rumors will turn out to be wrong.

  • Any ideas for the iPod nano 7g release date in October?

I know it's in October, just want to know when

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19855678#19855678
It will hopefully be released this week. An online store says they are due for delivery Oct 15, therefore Apple should be releasing them at least a week before that.

  • "The iPod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read or written to."

I just bought an iPod touch today and rushed home to sync it with iTunes. After making sure I had the latest version of iTunes, I plugged the new ipod in and followed the steps to sync. It seems that after about 200 songs transfered to my iPod touch, I got an error stating, "The iPod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read or written to." followed by another error stating, "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I disconnected the iPod then reconnected, transfered a couple hundred more songs then got the error again. I tried restoring the iPod itself 3 times and made sure all the software was up to date, even uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. With about 3500 songs I do not want to sit here and keep having to unplug and plug the iPod back in. PLEASE PLEASE someone help me! Thanks!

*I am pasting a message I made on another forum. I was having the same trouble syncing, but this cleared everything up.*
Looks like Joe was correct; at least in my case. I was getting the "cannot copy to disk" message after about 50 songs. After following his advice, syncing worked fine, both music and videos.
    Thanks Joe,
    Jim

i have 4 integrated USB ports. 3 are used, and 1 leads to another 4 port hub. Its drawing too much power and the IPOD usb needs a constant power stream in order for it to accept transfers at certain speeds.
check your USB usage, and also make sure if enough power is allocated to the USB slot you're using (hopefully you guys know how to do that in device manager for PC, not mac).
Or simply unplug everything, except the ipod and see if it works.
Another thing, if you have front USBs on your BAY...use the back ones, the front dont have as much power allocated to them since they are created/designed for wireless/bluetooth devices, like mouse and keyboard.
Use the BACK usb devices, and reboot your machine and IPOD. and you should be fine.
One instance, my friend was getting that issue, he unplugged all power consuming USB devices...and it didnt work. So he had to restore his IPOD, and it worked with no problem from there on. But as soon as he plugs in his printer, he gets that error again.
so its all about the USB power drainage you're using.

  • Changing library songs on the iPod

This may seem stupid - but, if I have imported ALL of my music to iTunes - and want to continue to add CD's to the library - is there any way I don't have to have ALL of the songs on my iPod, but still have them in my iTunes library?
What are the little checkmarks for on iTunes, I thought if you "unchecked" them, the songs would be removed from the iPod.
    Thanks!

There are various methods of transferring songs to the iPod with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • IPod touch restore and data corruption

My iPod touch has a strange weird sync/restore.  My iPod touch started to act weird, apps started crashing, other issues started happening.
I restarted my iPod, several times.  It didn't fix the issue.
So I restored.  And that didn't work, it made the issue worse.  (I synced before I restored =D.)
Some of the apps came back on the iPod, without their app data.
Some apps came back, but crashed every-time I opened them.  Some apps didn't even come back!
Most of the issues were fixed.  My global settings didn't "come" back either.  Issues are coming back now, such as a delay when unlocking, a lit black screen when unlocking, apps hang, black squares appear where redraw regions are, pictures disappear sometimes.  Bookmarks appear most of the time.  Safari freezes almost all of the time.  Total lockup.
I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue, or a corrupted backup issue.  I have a second gen IPod touch running iOS 4.1 not jail broken.  I'd like to fix it, and if I get a new iPod touch I'd like to have all of the data on my old one if possible.  I'm using a Mac with lion installed to sync my iPod.  The issues started happening before I upgraded to lion.

I think the best thing you should do is send the broken iPod Touch back to the store and see what thety say. You can try to reinstall iTunes because sometimes those files may get corrupt,  try to put it into DFU Mode ( Read Here http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=566) for how-to's. and Restore it again, basically with DFU mode it disables your iPod and you can only activate again by restoring it. Most of the time Jailbreaking is the cause of the issue but i see that you did not jailbreak your device. Sending it back is definitly the best choice because either they fix it, or give you a new one. Good Luck fixing it! Reply if you need any help or explanations.
    =)

  • I have an ipod touch 8gb model number MA623LL. How do I install apps on my ipod? Is it capable of transferring/running apps? Why doesn't my ipod touch have the basic-beginning app on the beginning screen after i erased/wiped my ipod and started new?

Googling shows that you have the 1G iPod.  For apps you need at least iOS 2. The iG can go as far os 3.1.3 that you get here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
Just be aware that there are presently not that many apps that work with a 1G with iOS 3.1.3

  • Ipod touch 4 i can no longer watch movies, transferred to the ipod, on videos app it simply says loading and then stops. On my ipad mini with older ios it still works.

Ipod touch 4 i can no longer watch movies, transferred to the ipod, on videos app it simply says loading and then stops. On my ipad mini with older ios it still works. So how can I fix this I have tried converting videos into different formats but it will not work.
Is IOS 8 really appropriate with Ipod Touch 4, if the older Ipods do not have the capability then why are we prompted to install new operating systems.
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all videos and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
