Is there a mail-merge type feature?

We have a form that was created using Designer 7.0 and we have collected the transmitted XML data into a database. We'd like to push the data from the database back into the form, similar to the way you'd do a Mail Merge function with Microsoft Word. The end result should be a multi-page PDF (or many single PDF's) that we can print, where each page is filled in as if the user had done it.
I know this kind of defeats the purpose of PDF, but we've found out that the physical forms need to be printed on paper so we can have people verify and sign.
We also have Acrobat 7.0, and it is all running on XP SP3.

Not as you are describing, but you can do a work around. Move your clips into imovie and create a continous movie.During the process add in chapter markers between your clips. Then share the project to idvd. You will get a play movie (to play the entire movie and a scene selection menu that will have your individual movies in it. You can then rename the play movie and scene selection buttons to whatever you want. Or, you can click on folder icon at the bottom of the screen and move the clips around.

    Reports version 2.5 on NT
    I'm not a reports expert so pardon me if it is a simple question.
    I'm trying to create a salary certificate for all the employees. This will be a mail merge type of report, where there will be static text embedded with dynamic data from the database.
    Now my problem is that I want to print the static text with normal font and DB text in bold style.
    I can't use fields for DB columns as then my formatting will go for a toss because the data inside the fields is of variable length.
    Please advise on what to do? Any workarounds?

    You still need to use a Field object that sources on the corresponding DB column. Set font style of the Field object to "Bold". Set its "Horizontal Elasticity" property to "Expand".

  • Mail Merge type reporting in APEX

    Has anyone implememted a reporting tool to create mail merge type documents in APEX 4.0? I have read threads from 2005 - forward on solutions for older releases of APEX. BI Pub is more than our budget, so we are looking for something less costly.
    I have read about BIRT and PL/PDF.
    Any suggestions would be great!!

    I found the following to work better.. Like you use..oracle to get data in csv format and then use mail merge..
    Other solution is Jasper .. Third there are third party software available but that wont be a solution..
    I Think the easies way is get your data in csv format and from there ...you start using mail merge..word can talk directly to csv format data.

    Time Machine. If you have a full Time Machine backup, you can boot from your installation DVD and choose to restore the system. Otherwise, no, there is no "rollback" feature.
    I'm not sure what you mean by "DD." How did you delete your settings, etc?
    Finally, the keychain is an application that collects and securely stores your passwords for various applications, user accounts, websites, etc. so that you don't have to type those passwords every time you access the application or website they protect.

    Hi...I'm making my first DVD with iDVD and I was wondering if there is a way to have a "play-all" option. Basically, I have a bunch of small video clips in a sub-menu that I would like to have the option of viewing individually or all in a continuous mode, similar to what you would see on a movie's special features.
    I have searched and know that you can "loop" videos together, but it looks like if you do this, then you don't have the option of playing them individually. Is there a way to create an optional "play all" feature?

  • ColdFusion Mail Merge?

    Hi,
    I am building a dynamic email and i wanted to see has anyone created a mail merge type email with ColdFusion?  I wanted the user to be able to have a set of fields to choose and type them into the body of the message.  When the email goes out, the fields like << First_Name >> or something like that would be replaced with the actual values from the db.
    Any insight on how I could do this would be great!

    Piece of cake.  I do this sort of thing for neighborhood email blasts using a table that has everyone's name, email, etc., in it. Just use the rich text editor in a cfform to let the person compose the message - that gives them fonts, colors, etc., for formatting a nice message.  Come up with a simple meta syntax for how they type in the items that get replaced in the actual email with database items, just like you did in your example.   I wouldn't go the route of having the user type in using the #xxx# syntax because then you have to deal with possible errors when they spell things wrong, leave out a #, etc. Plus, the Rich text editor is going to mess with the # signs anyway.  Just come up with something like <firstname> or [firstname], etc.  Make it easy for the user by listing somewhere on the form page each of the possible things they can include - that way they can copy/paste if they want to.
    On the form processing page you just loop over the database resultset and use replaceNoCase() to replace each of those metas with the current row's database value, and then drop that modified variable into the cfmail tag:
         <cfmail from="ME" to="#queryname.you#" type="HTML">
              #form.thisIsTheContentFormVariable#
         </cfmail>
    If you're talking about sending a lot of emails you should check postings from about 4-6 weeks ago on the topic of using CF for mass mailings, and avoiding problems with your ISP that get you in hot water because they think you are a spam-bot.

    I've been trying to build a production management system slowly over the last few months, my boss is a bit of a technophobe so I've been trying as hard as i can to keep everything in familiar programs, at its core all the system has to do its take information in from Purchase Orders, this is added to a Numbers File, within that numbers file are our Open Order Book showing All orders and 2 "Merge Sheets" all new Orders are Added to the Merge Sheets then onto the Open Order Sheet, those "merge sheets" are then used as a data source for a Pages file "Job Card" (we have 2 job card files once blue one yellow but the process is the same)
    Up until now I've been manually merging each time we get a new order, but this happens a lot so what I've been trying to do is Automate the procedure.
    Ive created 2 Automator Apps  each runs the same sequence just for the two different Job cards as follows:
    Get finder Item "Job_Card_Blue/Yellow" > Open Finder Item > a "watch me do" of mail merge > Print > Close Application without saving
    The Problem is the Watch me do is a bit of a clunky work around, if I could make it work without the mouse moving over the screen it wouldn't be so bad, even if I could somehow give Mail Merge a Keyboard Short Cut it would also be better.
    So my questions, after a large ammount of waffling:
    1) is there a way i can "see" and then edit the "watch me do" Script?
    2) is there a simpler work around im not seeing?
    3) is there an existing script of program I can use? (obviously i know there is Filemaker etc, if it was up to me I'd use a Database, but the owner of company is adimant i use office or easy programs, becuase it needs to be a system i can leave to him once my contract is up)
    Any Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Yes I've created an Automator Application that does the job, but the "watch me do" function that does the Mail Merge is a rather Clunkey work around, as the mouse moves all over the place, thats the part i want to remove and replace with a script, or work out a different way around it that avoids the "watch me do" function.
    Is this Possible? or where/who is there i can ask to write me a script, im not a novice to scripting, but i am a novice to Applescript.

    After I create this template,I am required to write a javascript or a VB program to access this pdf template and find and replace these tags with the actual values and generate a pdf document.Somebody told me that this is to be done using adobe document server(ADS). Can this be done??If so,how?If not what is the alternative product in adobe?
    There are so many adobe products that i am totally at sea and not able to figure out which to use and how.
    Please help me at the very earliest.

    As per your reply I used Forms API in my vb program and it is accessing the fields but I am not able to change the property of the fields.
    I created the pdf form using adobe designer 7.0 and have created a floating field which I want to populate using my code.This is invisible in the pdf template but I when I set the value for it using vb code I need to change its property to visible.
    But when I try to change the "NoViewFlag" property, I get an error as follows:
    Runtime error'-2147220988(80040204)
    Document's Security Settings prohibit the operation being performed
    Please give your suggestions.
    2.Another question is how do I differentiate floating text field and ordinary text field in vb code because the type of both is displayed as text ??

    Looking also for an app that allows me to merge email and send them out to each recipient individually. Apparently that's not possible yet. Here's what the guys at RedbitsApps told me about Group Email capabilities: 
    "The current version of the app relies on the device operating system to send the emails. For this reason, sending individual email instead of a single email to multiple recipients is not possible. Apple doesn't allow apps to send single emails to many recipients easily. We may use a custom sending software in a future version."

    It is not available in Mail any longer (for quite a while, now).
    You can add a rule to have Mail mark them as junk, or you could possibly log onto your Email provider's web site and block that address.

    Version 2 of Numbers (iWork '09) does have Mail Merge. If your profile is correct, that's probably what you are using. The instructions for using the feature are in the Pages User Guide PDF.
    If your profile is out of date and you are using iWork '13 apps, you're out of luck. But, you can always go back to Version 2 of Numbers and Version 4 of Pages.

    Mail merge is for sending Pages, Word, Pdf etc document attached in a mail. It doesn't put the content of the document in the mail text layer. For that you have to go to Mail and open one new mail document and add what you want to send and then in the To field you add all the addresses you want to send to. If Mail can do it in a niftier way you have to ask in the forum for MacOs x ...> Mail

    I have a Bento database. I want to print contra dances from it on 3x5 index cards. I can save the database as a Numbers worksheet with all the data I want on it. I SHOULD be able to use the fields from that Numbers file to create a Pages document that merges, using that data, to print on the index cards.
    Meanwhile, Apple apparently thinks that addresses are the only kind of data anybody could ever want to merge in a document. This is a stupid limit. Your programmers are unnecessarily standing between me and a reasonable expectation of what your software ought to do.
    I could do this in WordStar in the mid 1980s on a Commodore 128 running CP/M. I could do it in WordPerfect under DOS. I can do it in Word in Windows, and I HATE Windows.

I could do that in Wordstar, etc.

    It seems that in Pages, I have to tweak the data itself, wrestling with Numbers to replace all "1"s in that column with "Becket" and replace all the "0"s with empty cells. It's a lot more of a tedious process in Numbers than it would be if I just had a conditional Merge field.
    Can't follow what this has to do with a simple merge which is where you started.

    I'm having problems with the mail merge to PDF feature of Acrobat XI, in that the process fails part way through and displays the error message 'Acrobat PDFMaker was not able to mail merge the document':
    This process used to work, and still works for one of my colleagues. However I have tried using different PCs (32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7), different versions of Word (2010 and 2013) and different types of data source (Excel and Access) without success.
    I would really appreciate any further suggestions.

    pls. take a look to note 1226758 under point 4 where it says:
    4. Call SPAD and choose Settings -> Spool System -> Other. Select 'SP01: Number of Columns for List Display from Format'.
    Maybe you have to take care about point 1-3 , depending on which supp.package level you are. for my i have only changed the settings in SPAD, now it works.
