Is there a method I can use to test the space cost of a Java program?

I am trying to test the space cost of a Java program (or a few lines of executed codes), however...
Firstly I tried to use the method freeMemory() in runtime class at start and end of a number of lines tested on, and then find the differences between them. But because I don't know when JVM releases memories, this idea seems not working.
I also tries to use the -verbose:gc to print the GC actions, which is also hard to be automatically collected (Computing the results one by one by hand is too burdensome).
Is there a method in some classes can be used for doing this? Could anyone help me on this, please?

Is there a routine one can use to shift the column of data by one each time the loop index increments? In other words, increment the columns that the data is being saved by using the index?

The device, an Ocean Optics spectrometer in columns of about 9000 cells.I'm saving this as a lvm file using the "write to measurement file.vi". But it doesn't give me the flexibility as far as I can tell.
I need to move the column by the index of the for loop, so that when i = n, the data will take up the n+1 column. (the 1st column is used for wavelength). How do I use the "write to spreadsheet file.vi" to do this? Also, if I use the "write to spreadsheet file.vi", is there a way one can increment the file name, so that the data isn't written over. I like what "write to measurement file.vi" does.

You cannot write one column at a time to a spreadsheet file, because a file is arranged linearly and adding a column would need to move (=read and rewwrite elsewhere) almost all existing elements to interlace the new data. You can only append new rows without having to touch the already written data.
Fields typically don't have fixed width. An exception would be binary files that are pre-allocated at the final size. In this case you can write columns by setting the file positions for each element. It still will be very inefficient.
What you could do is append rows until all data is written, the read, transpose, and write back the final file.
What you also could to is build the final array in a shift register and write the entire things to file at once after all data is present.

Is there a free version of SP 2010 that developers can use to test the software?

I would like to set up a 2 server SP 2010 environment just for test. There would only be one or two users using it. I would like to set it up with one of the servers as a web front end and the other as an application server.
In looking at the SharePoint 2010 download page, it appears there is a 6 month trial license that one can get with the download. But it appears that after that, some purchase is necessary.
I have also heard that there used to be (or still is?) some sort of developer subscription that, if one has, one can get developer licenses for servers.
Is there a good reference that goes over the various approaches a developer has for creating a low/no cost SharePoint farm?

My friend has prepared and made available a virtual machine for downloading. Drawback is it is SP 2013 not 2010. If you want you can download and do experiments.

My macbook 2008 screen went black a few months ago. I've been using it with a monitor. Today it's working. I have a feeling it's going to die at any time. Is it possible that a software patch fixed this ? Is there a utility I can run to test the screen ?

Symptoms: The screen was, intermittently, going black last year and then went black completely. I have been using it on a monitor ever since.
I can see the screen with a flashlight.
I completely erased the drive and loaded OSx 10.7. I believe that's the last version of OSx Mac will be supporting on this computer.
When I booted up the computer this morning the screen came on !
While typing this question, my screen went black again, not to return.
So sad.
I did bring it to Apple and they believed the entire screen needed to be replaced.
They say that they tried a new inverter and it didn't work.
I have a feeling I'm just out of luck unless I want to cough up the $300 to fix the screen.
Although it is a solid machine, 2Ghz processor with 4 gigs of ram, it is still six years old.
I imagine that's like putting a new transmission in a 95 Honda civic. Yeah, it's a reliable car but it's old and it's probably going to break again.
I love my mac so much but I can't justify buying a new one or paying to fix this old one.
I have a Gateway dual booting Windows 7 and ubuntu linux that's actually pretty slick and has taken it's place on business trips and coffee shop excursions.
If anyone has any thoughts or feedback I'd appreciate it.

No. There's no widget that can do all this for you. You'll either need to program this app yourself, hire an experienced developer to do it for you, or find an off the shelf product you can install and set-up on your server.
Before you go to all that trouble, I urge you to check with your web host first to see if they allow non-registered users to upload video files to your server. Many shared hosting plans do not for obvious security & bandwidth reasons.
If you decide to pursue this further, you may need to upgrade to a dedicated server plan which costs considerably more than shared hosting.

It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

Many users keep their iTunes libraries on external drives. You just have to remember to connect and power up the drive before launching iTunes.

Provide you have Acrobat 9 installed in an OS for which Acrobat 9 is compatible then you can use the functionality.
As well, you need a scanner connected, powered up, and the software installed. Acrobat 9 "prefers" TWAIN drivers.
Always visit the scanner vendor's site and download - install the latest greatest software.
n.b., The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year 2013.
As well the Acrobat 9.x product family is not compatible with contemporary OSs.

That older iMac isn't designed to receive video input through the mini-DVI connection. Only certain newer iMacs are able to be used as displays.
Your only options are to use something like ScreenRecycler mentioned above.

It depends which generation of iPod Touch you have.
The 2nd generation Touch can only use iOS 4.2.1 as the latest version. You can identify the 2nd gen Touch from the model number etched into the back of the case, it's A1288.
The 3rd gen Touch (and above) can install iOS 5. The 3rd gen Touch has model number A1318 etched into the back of the case.
(The 4th gen has a camera, front and back.)
