Is there a way for Itunes to scan your library to see which songs are missing the original files?  I'd like to mass delete songs to save space on my hard drive.

Other than just attempting to play the song I'm not sure of any way to do it.

I have only synced a device on a single occasion in my life.  Doesn't it say something about how many songs will transfer?
The laptop is supposed to be the master repository for everything on the iPod and they are designed to be in sync.
You can check the Dougscripts web site.  There's all kinds of goodies there but I don't know if the extend to something like this.  There's also third party software but again I don't know if it goes to that detail.  People usually use it when they are trying to rescue content for a non-backed-up computer.

  • Is there a way for Itunes to compare your library to the music that is on the ipod?

I have recently moved all my music to my laptop as my ipod may break any day now because it is so old and I wanted to organise my library so I don't lose any thing. Over the past few years I have manually been adding music to my ipod because it meant i could have music on my desktop computer and my laptop, however on deciding to move it all to one place I have descovered I have more songs on my itunes than my ipod but I can't work out which ones they are. Is there any way Itunes can run a program to determine the differences between the music on the ipod and itunes? I would just sync the entire library however it would mean that if there are songs on my ipod that are not on my itunes they would be deleted. (I would go through my library manually to determine the differences however I have over 4500 songs so that would be a little difficult)

While I can't help you get back Playlists that have been deleted (by iTunes!), I can hopefully help you stop that happening again. The latest version of iTunes (on 4th July 2012) is 10.6.3.25 and this version fixes the bug that has been present (in iTunes) for the last few updates.
So first of all, make sure you have iTunes 10.6.3.25 installed.
For any Playlist you created, you will simply have to compile them again from memory, or by starting again.
For the built-in Playlists that came with iTunes:
Recently Added - see the contribution from Jolly Giant in this post https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3022568.
For other Playlists, tell us which one(s) you're after and we should be able to post instructions here for you.

  • I recently restored my laptop and also iTunes from an external hard drive, but when I play songs, it says the original file could not be found. How do I locate and fix this?

I recently restored my laptop with Windows 7 and imported my iTunes library from my external hard drive. When I try to play songs, it says it cannot and that the original file could not be located. How do I fix this?

Put the files back where iTunes expects them to be.

  • Should I delete preview files to save space on my hard drive?

Should I delete preview files to save sapce on my hard drive? At times the program crashes and I wonder whether I should get rid of these files to make more space.

    Yes.
If you run a SD project (whether you render stills or videos) and render, you are going to get DV AVI files automatically generated. If it is a HD project, rendering deposits MPEG2.mpg files on your hard drive (whether you render stills or videos). We are talking possibly GB amounts of files if you let them pile up long enough. For Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, these preview files are by default in Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0 and in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder there.
First let us see how much is piled up there before we take action against them.
If the preview files there are part of an existing project or projects, the consequence of deleting those files is that you will have to render again that content in the project to get the best possible preview. If the preview files represent project long since gone, good riddance.
Please check out the situation. And, then we can discuss also pile ups of conformed video and conformed audio files.
    More later.

  • Am I the only person who misses the drag and drop method of adding and deleting songs on iTunes devices?

I am constantly getting frustrated with the newer versions of iTunes because my different apple devices have different amounts of storage. I miss the days when I could drag and drop songs to various devices. I don't always want the same songs on all devices, so I don't like to sync because I sometimes lose something I want to keep on that device. I am just curious if I'm the only one who misses this feature or is there a way of doing this that I've just not found? Thanks.

In the Summary tab of iTunes - when the iDevice is connected to your Mac - select Manually Manage Music and Videos. You should be able to drag and drop.
If you don't see the sidebar and the device is syncing automatically, you can enable the sidebar from the ITunes Menu - View>Show Sidebar. The. You can click on your device name imder the devices heading, then click on the Summary Tab.
You can also disable auto syncing in iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing autonatically.
I never auto sync and never have. I select Sync Only Checked Songs And Videos in the Summary tab and I can still drag and drop songs. I can also select the albums, playlist, or artists that I want to sync by using this method.

  • I have taken a 12 month membership for cc and photoshop.  I now see that adobe are offering the same product for only $9.99 per month including lightroom, whereas I am paying $19.99 a month. Is it possible to change plans without any penility payments.

I have a monthly membership to Photoshop CS6 costing $19.99 per month on a 12 month membership.  I now see that Adobe are offering the same product for only $9.99 per month.  Is it possible to change plans with any extra costs to me. Thankyou

    Hi rjmo
Yes, you can switch to the Creative Cloud Photography Plan without penalty.
Please check this doc for the differences between this plan and the Photoshop single app plan you have currently: Photoshop Help | Differences between Photoshop and Creative Cloud Photography Programs
Let me know if you wish to proceed with the switch and I can arrange it.
    Thanks

  • Is there a way for iTunes to automatically get podcast subscriptions from my iPod/iPhone?

I just had a hard drive crash, and while I've got most of my music and ebooks pretty well backed up, I've found that I didn't do the same with my podcasts.  I'm not worried about the podcasts per se, but I'd rather not have to subscribe to all of them individually again if it can be helped.  I'd like to believe there's got to be an easier way, going through this process every time a hard drive fails or a computer gets updated gets rather old.

    Yes...
    For iTunes purchases...
Launch iTunes on the new computer. From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer
Now from the menu bar click File > Transfer Purchases from...
Fro non iTunes purchases see Zevoneer's post here > Moving files from Ipod to Itunes: Apple Support Communities

  • Is there a way for iTunes to stop syncing songs that i delete on my iPhone?

When I delete a song on my iPhone 4, is there a way to make that song stop syncing to back to my phone instead of my having to go through and delete them from my library myself?

There is no need to delete the song from the iTunes library on your computer to prevent songs you delete on the phone from syncing back to it.  If you have iTunes set to sync only checked songs/media, when you delete the song on the phone, it automatically uncheck's and doesn't sync again (the same way as when you delete an app on the phone).
The song remains in the iTunes library in case you change your mind.

  • I have Windows 7, 64 bit, and I am using iTunes 11.0.1.12. I have been all through the threads and internet..how do I delete songs from my iTunes and hard drive at the same time? I have my music in the correct iTunes folder. Nothing works.

    Windows 7 64 bit
    iTunes 11.0.1.12
I have my music in the correct iTunes folder
In iTunes, I select songs, click "delete", then "move to recycle bin", finally, empty my recycle bin that shows the file is there
File is still on my hard drive.
I just want to be able to delete files out of my library and off of my hard drive at the same time. I have tried everything I have read, and there really seems to be no real answer. Somebody please help!

i do, but like i said it fell once and since then it hasn't been able to connect to my laptop. it acts like nothing's connected. i believe if i call the company the HDD is from they'll be able to transfer it to a new one but who knows how much they'd charge. looks like i have no choice now.
If it were truly a backup, then the media would play on the laptop as it would be on the laptop.
Sounds like you actually do not have a backup, instead you chose to keep your media on an external drive.
Regardless of where the media is stored, it's always a good idea to have a backup for instances like this.

  • Once I finish an iMovie project and I publish it to various destinations (Dropbox iTunes YouTube etc) do I need to keep the original raw video on my MacBook or can I archive it to an external hard drive.

I have now finished 3 iMovie projects and have learned how to prepare them for sharing through various media like Dropbox, iDVD YouTube iTunes etc. but I now have produced a huge number of related files which are filling up my hard drive to the point that I can't import any further raw video until I archive or delete many of these files.
What files do I need to keep on my MacBook in order to be able to keep these various shared locations functioning, and what should I delete or archive?

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

  • Is there a way to see which images are linked to .indd files?

After working for this company for the past year and a half I'm accumulating tons of image files. I want to eliminate any superflous images and before I start cleaning house I want to see if there's a way of telling whether or not they're linked to an .indd document. For obvious reasons I don't want to delete a file if it's in use somewhere.
I checked in Bridge, which I rarely use, and I see that you can tell which files are linked from an .indd document, but how about the other way around? If I highlight a .jpeg is there a way to trace if it's linked?
I have a feeling the answer is no, but I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Before I start a new topic, I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to save URL's within Indesign. I'm tired of typing out http://ect.ect.ect. or going to the site and copying and pasting the URL over and over. In my documents I don't want to include all the extra slashes and periods so if there's a way to bring up those previously used URL's that would be great.
So, for example in my document it'd say something like, "visit us on the web at adobe.com" but it would link to http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign/indesign_general
So, instead of having to go back to the website, copy, paste I could load up my list of URL's from another document.
I probably just answered my own question. Feature request, perhaps? Or hopefully I'm missing something.

  • How do I permanently delete parts of my original video footage that I don't use for editing purposes?  i.e. to save space on my hard drive.

Hi - I cant' seem to find how to permanently delete the video footage that is rubbish - can anyone help?

    Hi ATR
Here is the answer of Mediainfo:
In Quicktime, what I did after trimming, was just click on "save" and not change any settings. If I click "export" instead of "save", I get the following options:
    1080p...
    720p...
    480p...
iPad, iPhone iPad touch & Apple TV...
    Audio only...
    iTunes.....
Yes, If I go to Premiere Elements Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime, I see QuickTime presets listed there, I was using these successfully all the time with my Sony camera files.
And, when I drag these .mov to the project's Timeline, there is no orange line over it. (If I add the clip out if the Sony camera, there is).
Please find here one of the trimmed files that are causing the problem:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ah4x3iagvntub8t/Canon_Trimmed.mov?dl=0
One more thing I have to mention- if I take the whole AVCHD file from the SD card directly to the project (without using QuickTime at all), it gives me the message, "This file type is not supported or requires a not installed codec" (sorry I'm translating from German).
If I import the AVCHD file with the software that came with the camera (Data Import Utility), it creates a folder with all the separate mts files. If I import one of those with "add media", it tells me something like "While importing there has occured a general error".
Thank you so much for your help!
