Is there a way to install exe of a vi on an XP machine without LV run-time and not have to restart?

Hi,
I need to deploy an application that reads channels from a FP module for testing purposes. The problem is, I cannot restart the system I need to install this on because it is running critical control software which cannot be interrupted. The system does not have the labview run-time engine and I know installing this requires a restart of XP probably due to registering DLLs or something.
I'm using "Fieldpoint Network Read" to read from the module. The simple answer would be to simply install this on a machine on the same network that I can restart. However, I have no such luxury because I am connecting to the system in question over a long distance VPN connection and I need to be able to poll the data from the FP every 250ms which may be too much for the connection.
So basically, I need to find a way to read data from this FP in a manner similar to "FP Network Read" without restarting the system.  Is there any way to do this with labview? Alternatively, I may be able to write this app using LabWindows since I know some software is already running on that machine programmed with that.

The first thing I'd say is that a restart may not be necessary.  I have in the past installed LabVIEW development environment and when asked I said I would restart later.  Then I opened LabVIEW and started coding.  I'm not sure what it thinks it needs to restart for but it may not be required.
The other thing I'd like to mention is that LabVIEW 7.1 and older can run EXEs without needing to install a run time engine.  So it is possible to build a EXE in 7.1, then include some files and DLLs in the same directory as the EXE, and when it is ran it will use them.  There's probably issues with talking to DAQ devices without MAX and I have no idea how you address this but it is another possibility.
Of course you already know the best answer and that is to reboot the system when most convenient.

I turned off my fire vault by accident and is there a way to stop it from decrypting cause that is going to take a long time and i want to keep my hard drive encrypted.
is there a way to stop it in the middle so it does not go through the whole process

It's called, "FileVault." If there is no option to stop the process, then the best bet would be to wait until decrypting is finished. Otherwise you run the risk of borking the whole thing. It's hard to imagine how you can accidentally turn off FileVault.

  • Is there a way to install Japanese version of Windows 7 on my macbook (English version running Snow Leopard)?

    Hi,
I need to use some Japanese software which have to be installed on a computer running Japanese Windows OS in order for them to work properly.  My macbook was purchased in Canada, meaning running English version of Snow Leopard.  Is such thing possible?
    Thanks!

The language of your Snow Leopard has nothing to do with whatever version of Windows you want to run, which you will have to do via Bootcamp or one of the virtual apps like Fusion or Parallels.
If you do want to change the language of your Snow Leopard, it can be done in a few seconds by moving a different language to the top of the list in system prefs/language & text/language and then logout/login.

  • Is there a way of transferring a purchased app from my iMac to my MBA if the MBA does not have internet connection?

I am relatively new to the Mac world, and so please excuse me if this sounds like a dumb question.  I have a iMac running 10.6.8 and hard wired, not wireless.
I recently purchased a MAB with the intention of NOT hooking it to the internet but just stand alone, for writing purposes. I needed an app for it, so  I purchased it through the app store on the iMac with the intent of transferring to the MAB via flash drive. Now in retrospect, its probably not the way its supposed to happen, due to licence rules, etc.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the app on my MAB or will I have to get it online to do a transfer from the iMac?
Thank you in advance your suggestions.

Apple is relying heavily on the Mac App store to make purchases and install applications. Of course, this requires an Internet connection for all purchases and installs. If you connect the MBA to the App store online, you should be able to download an install an additional copy, provided the MBA and the iMac share ownership information (registration, Apple ID).
Apple's long term plan will just about require all systems to have Internet access to function in app installation and updating, if you buy the Apps from Apple..
Alternatively, some Apps can be copied in whole, by simply copying the particular App folder in the Applications folder of your iMac system, then pasting that App folder in the corresponding Applications folder on your MBA. The rest can't. The reason; they install library and other files elsewhere on the computer. It all depends on the Developer's structure of the App.
You can try the App file copying, and if it does not work, you will simply have to establish an Internet connection for your Air, and use the App store.

  • Is there any way to turn off the ical feature whereby someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically goes on your iCal?

Is there any way to turn off the iCal feature whereby when someone emails you a meeting date/time and it automatically appears on your calendar?  Once there they can't even be edited or deleted.

    Greetings,
What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
You should be able to delete events in iCal as long as they are not from a "Subscription" calendar.  Subscriptions show up on the left hand side of iCal under the "Subscription" category if you have any.
You can tell iCal to not check your mail program for invites by going and unchecking the box found in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > "Automatically retrieve..."
    Hope that helps!

  • Is there a way to install an SSD hard drive on a 2011 iMac without voiding the warranty?

I purchased an iMac last October and my line of work demands extensive use of After Effects and Final Cut Pro. My iMac is fitted with the standard 1TB SATA hard drive, and lately I considered installing an SSD drive as I have been experiencing lags. In all my naivete I asked Apple Store/Service outlet where I originally bought my iMac, but they turned me down, claiming that "they are not allowed to order the extra parts and if they do proceed then my warranty will be void". Which means that about 2 years of AppleCare will go out of the window. I can always do it myself, but at the risk of damaging my iMac and facing a null warranty on top of it. I am still reeling in disbelief, is it really the case that Apple prohibits its customers from legitimately upgrading their computer at their own stores? What kind of nonsense is this? It's an iMac we're talking about, not an iPhone. It is unreasonable, unprofessional, and I need an explanation!

Adding an SSD is not a simple endeavour like adding additional memory or adding another hard drive to a Mac Pro. That's probably why the option is only offered as an option at the time of purchase. Even if your Apple store was willing to install the necessary parts you will probably be paying for 1-2 hours of labor plus the cost of purchasing the necessary service parts (SSD, bracket, cables, etc) which I suspect will make the upgrade cost much higher than what it costs to add the SSD option when purchasing a new system.
I use my system for business and need it to work reliably.  Even though I'm fairly handy with tools I would not be willing to risk damaging my system and voiding my warranty by opening my system and removing the logic board and several other parts in order to squeeze in an SSD option and attach the appropriate cables and brackets. I'm also not prepared to deal with the hassles of explaining why my system has unauthorized parts installed in the event I experience issues and need to make use of my Apple warranty. My time is valuable, so I would probably investigate external storage options, or if I needed the speed of an SSD, I would consider selling my existing system and then purchase a new system configured with an SSD.
If you haven't already done so I suggest doing a search on 'iMac SSD installation' to see what's involved. It might help you understand why the SSD option is not offered post purchase.

Delete of hide the existing iDVD application T and all files with "iDVD" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,

  • I'm not crying. Is there a way to install Mountain Lion on a bootable disk on latest iMac cuz mine shipped without an OS?

I could cry right now. After decades of being an Apple fan, something is happening for the worse and issues with every Apple product I own 2 iphones, 2 iMacs, 15" Macbook Pro, and iPad Mini (no issues here, just slow connecting to App Store and can never seem to download updates)  has left me disenchanted. I do have a question about Mountain Lion but just airing out grievances.
Ok, to the point. I have the new 27" iMac that was just released. Was delivered and opened the box, turned it on, and there was a flashing folder icon. No OS, wonderful. I live in Brooklyn and not trying to lug a 27" computer onto the train nor should I have to pay for a cab to resolve this. Anyway, I tried to go into Recovery but it started doing an Internet Recovery with a download time of 9 hours. Um, no thanks. So I downloaded the latest version of Mountain Lion from the App store on my old iMac and made a boot disk onto an external via Apples instructions. Plugged it into new iMac lemon, go into recovery mode, see the bootable drive, click on it to reinstall and it gives me a crossed out circle icon and shuts down.
What am I doing wrong? I have pretty decent broadband and did start the internet recovery process now until I find a better solution online. After 5 hours, Internet recovery finished and clicked on Reinstall Mountain Lion to which it's asking me to download the OS again and with a 13 hour download time!!!! What's going on here? What was the purpose of internet recovery taking 5 hours only to download it again at another 13 hours???
Question is, is there something I should be doing differently? Is there a way to install Mountain Lion from a bootable disk? This is mind blowingly the dumbest thing I've encountered with Apple. Got a problem with your OS? No problem, just download a 4.4GB file every incident.
    Thank you.

You can't grab a installer from another Mac and expect it to run. The newer Macs have newer hardware which requires special drivers. If the version that boots the iMac is a special build, it won't work any other way than Internet Recovery.
If it was me, I'd take it right back. You have no idea if the OS is just corrupted, the hard drive is dead, or what. I wouldn't take my chances with it.

  • Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

I have a custom built Java 6 application that doesn't like Photoshop CS5 64 bit edition.  The program copies over a file from the network to the local machine and then opens it in Photoshop.  The user manipulates the image and saves the changes.  The user then completes the image and the application copies the image back to the server.  The problem we're having is: When we use Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it takes about 2 minutes for Photoshop to open the image.  The file is copied over within 2 seconds and the Photoshop icon on the windows taskbar starts flashing.  But then you spend a few minutes waiting for it to open.
Some things that I have tried to isolate the problem:
    - I found you can copy the file somewhere else, double click on it and the image will open in Photoshop before the script is able to open the file.
    - I tried uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling just the 64 bit edition without the 32 bit installation.  The script just stops working in this situation.
    - I tried uninstalling CS5 and installing CS3.  The image opens as soon as the file is copied over.
What I would like to try next is to install just the CS5 32 bit version.  But the installer is being uncooperative and will only allow either the 64 bit version or both the 64 and 32 bit versions.  So, back to my question: Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

Do you mean schroot?  If so I'm not sure exactly how well that will work out, because the part that depends on python is a deamon that handles communication between the USB dongle and the Tux Droid which may mean hacking the deamon a bit so ether way this does not seem like it will be a easy task.

Whether you can use your phone in this way is entirely the responsibility of your phone company/carrier.  You need to contact them to see if you can add tethering to your phone plan.  Be warned though that it could get rather expensive, so if you don't really need it, then do without, but in any instance, you need to contact your phone carrier.

  • Is there a way of installing 10.4.2 on a Mac mini without password?

I am trying to help a friend who purchased a Mac mini from a relative a few years ago.
The OS needs reinstalling (too many faults to mention). I have the original install disc 1 and 2, but every time i try installing, the administrator password is needed. Unfortunately the first owner did not keep a record of it (all alternatives given have failed).
Is there a way of installing the OS without the administrator's password?
As a final attempt, i am a bit worried to erase all volumes using disc utility, because this might turn the mini completely useless if the OS will not install afterwards.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Um, I can't specifically answer that because I don't have a FV master password set and I am reluctant to set one just to see if I can unset it. I would think that if you do have one set it would only be requested if you were doing something related to FV. If you could provide cases where you are being asked for a password it might help us track down the reason. I am mostly asked for a password when I am adding software to the computer or doing some other administrative task. In that case it is asking for my admin password. The FV one I think is only as a backdoor to a FV account in case somebody has forgotten their password.

Yes, it is possible , however I wont recommend to do it. Since, once Project trial period expires  you need to uninstall project server which can not be done without uninstalling SharePoint. Unless you are willing to rebuild the farm once your
