Is there a way to stop Icon View from putting everything in rows?

I have a couple computers now with Lion, but I miss part of my old Finder view. Is there a way to stop Icon View from putting everything in rows when I do a "sort by" arrange by? I just want sorted icons, not a row of types.
For instance - I set to arrange by date created and I have a ROW of "Today" A ROW of "Yesterday" another row of "Previouse 7 days" and another row of "Previous 30 Days." I just want a sorted folder of files in icon view listed by created date. These "Rows" are annoying and a pain in the butt to use!

that´s the point. you are using the wrong sort option. if you want rows you arrange by the button depicted above. in addition you can select how to sort your files (gear wheel button / secondary click context menu)

Dear Apple Community,
Recently I installed iStat Menus and found that, over the course of this year, my Macbook's charging capacity has dropped 5%. I know this isn't a massive number, but battery performance has become a concern for me. I use my Macbook as a desktop replacement, on the main. It's sitting on a mStand, connected to a large monitor on my desk. I use my Macbook to play games, surf the internet, do work and all that good stuff - basically, I use it for everything. I rarely use the Macbook without it being plugged in. I read on the Apple website that they do not recommend leaving the Macbook on charge permanently and that I should use it on battery at least one a month. As I use my Macbook as a desktop replacement, I don't actually have a lot of opportunity to do this.
My question to you, the community, is: is there a way of stopping the battery from charging, either with the use of an app or a physical device? Ideally, I would love to have my power plugged in BUT only used when the battery drops below 10%. Is this possible with an app?
On the other hand, am I just worrying about nothing? Will my battery be damaged further if I leave the Macbook charging permanently?

The charging characteristics are handled in firmware. There is no app that would be able to do this. You actually would not want to do this anyway. Regularly discharging your battery to 10% will greatly decrease the life of your battery. While it is true that you should not use your system exclusively plugged in, allowing it to run on battery a few hours a week should be fine. Letting the battery regularly run down to (or below) 10% will cause you to use up cycles more quickly than is necessary (thereby reducing the life of your battery). It's really a only a matter of disconnecting your Magsafe connector once in a while.
Leaving it plugged in does not result in it being charged "permanently". It will charge until it is full and then charging will stop. It will only begin recharging when it reaches about 95%.

As an example, I'm going to my email in safari, while I wait for it to load, I open an excel document, and the OS decides excel should be the front app, so I go back to safari so I can enter my login info, but halfway through my password the OS decides that excel is where I should finish typing my password.

you can't reverse the process, once you accepted there is no other way, if you sync it to your itunes library in your computer it will automatically update the updated app as well.
What you can try though is delete the app from your iPad and try syncing it to your itunes library but if you set up iCloud it may update the app automatically

Hi, my PC system is Window XP Pro SP2, HP xw8400 Workstation w/ 2G Ram. And the PC has a Digidesign Pro Tools HD 1 audio system installed.
My problem is that after Quicktime player lauches, it will occupy the Pro Tools HD's hardware. And if I want to start Pro Tools software, "digidesign hardware is in use by another application." warning will occur and Pro Tools software will then quit. BTW, Digidesign's audio driver is not multi-clients compatible.
I have set Quicktime player's audio playback device to PC motherboard's audio device, and system's audio device is also motherboard's audio device, I even have checked the "use default device only" option. I can't understand why Quicktime player still occupies Digidesign's hardware, even it plays back audio through motherboard's audio device.
Though I can quite Quicktime player before lauching Pro Tools software, I still feel it's annoying and inconvenient, and want to know some ways to solve this problem.
Anyone can help? Thanks in advance. I have asked for help in Digidesign's offcial forum, no response.
BTW, the Quicktime player version on my system is 7.6.5, and each time Quicktime player launches, the sample rate led on the Digidesign's audio interface will flash, indicating that QT player is accessing Digidesign's hardware.

You are missing something simple but lets get it to stop as you want. Go to Settings/General/Bluetooth turn it off.

I have the same problem, my laptop was stolen with my girlfriend's icloud activated on. If the Laptop is switched on with access to the internet it will connect to icloud. Yes the calendar is gone. I guess it is the notification center I am referring to that comes down when I accidently swipe the top of the screen. Is there a way to stop of notification center from coming down if you swipe the screen? I figured out how to stop the control center from coming up if you swipe the bottom on the screen. I have an iPhone 5s running iOS 7.0.6. I plug it in at night next to my bed and use it as an alarm clock. I am running the NiceClock app because it has a great black background with slim red clock numbers (doesn't throw a lot of glare). I am using the built-in Clock app that comes with the current iOS as the alarm (NiceClock, while great for a simple bedside clock with no glare, does not come with an alarm). I set my iPhone's brightness on the lowest possible setting to keep the backlight glare down. It's great. My problem is when the alarm goes off the brightness level jumps up to maximum. Is there a way to prevent the brightness level of the iPhone from changing when the alarm goes off?

Basically I have a Nvidia 7950GX2 that i have installed in a Mac Pro to use in windows and it works perfectly but when i try to boot into OSX i get kernel panics.... I still have my 7300 in the machine for OSX. when I try this methos with a 7800 gtx it works just fine.....

Video cards that do not have Apple ROMs cannot boot an EFI based machine like the Mac Pro. Currently the only video cards that will properly work in the Mac Pro are the three available from Apple. With the new upgrade to IOS 7, I've noticed that certain keywords such as "tonight," "tomorrow," or times like "9:15" all underline and form a link to the calendar in text messaging. Is there a way to turn this feature off? It's quite annoying as I don't create events from my messages.

Is there a way to stop the screen from updating till the code is executed?

My extension needs to export all the layers to PNGs and it creates a lot of moving around in the screen while the operation is complete (eg: switching between layers, cropping the images, etc). I've set the Playback mode to Accelerated as well.
Is there a way to not update Photoshop UI during the process? (I have seen similar functionality in Microsoft Excel/VBA scripting)

As a shameless hack: put a layer on top, fill it with the color you like the most and that will prevent the document from revealing what's going on below.
It's a bit like hiding the dust under the carpet, there might be cases when you need to turn it off (e.g. merge on top) but for basic stuff it does the job.
Besides that, there's a undocumented "viewless document" or something like that, but you can do very limited processing - XBytor wrote something on ps-scripts.com years ago.
