Is there actually even a loyalty department?

I have been a loyal VW customer for well over 10-12 years.  On the 1st I upgraded one of my 4 lines, and asked about getting some type of discount or credit for being a good customer.  I was then transferred to the "loyalty dept" which ended up being tech support.  Now I called today to upgrade another line. Literally 2 weeks ago I upgraded and got a sale price.  All I wanted was to get that same phone for another line at that sale price. Apparently NO ONE at VW has authority to do anything at all.  They put you on hold while "asking a supervisor" who also apparently has no authority. What is the point? You have no choice.  I would not have even upgraded, but the phone was on it's last leg.  Now if that same phone goes on sale again, I can get a price match. Why can't I do it now? I can see if it was over 30 days, but seriously.  I can remember when companies used to be so happy when you were a long time customer.  You could get 5 or 10 bucks credit, or something free as a thank you. But no more - let's figure out how to charge more because the customer will bend over & take it.  I stayed with VW because the coverage is good, but really - I am so disappointed, and frankly humiliated that I actually thought they cared, but were probably laughing at the stupid customer holding waiting for us to check.   My question is there even anyone that can actually make a change or give you a credit at all, or is it all, just a ploy to keep us sheep in line.  For shame VW for shame.

4catmom, oh my goodness. It sounds like you have been through a lot. We want to make sure that we provide you all of your options to upgrade your phone. We truly value you and how long you have been a VZW customer. What seems to be going on with your current phone?

  • Is there actually any computer cleaning software for Mac that is safe and works?

Is there actually any cleaning software for IMac that issafe and works. Have an early 2008 iMac, have up-graded RAM to 6GB.

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; all should be made directly from the original data. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the App Store or Software Update preference pane (depending on the OS version), you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis.
Keeping up to date is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible. Incompatibility with third-party software is by far the most common cause of trouble with system updates.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, such stuff is useless or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
It's not much of an exaggeration to say that the whole "utility" software industry for the Mac is a fraud on consumers. The most extreme examples are the "CleanMyMac" and “MacKeeper” scams.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for, and doesn't change the way other software works.
Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception to the above rule. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction.  Some are malicious. Use with caution, and install only well-known extensions from relatively trustworthy sources, such as the Safari Extensions Gallery.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    4. Don't install bad, conflicting, or unnecessary fonts. Whenever you install new fonts, use the validation feature of the built-in Font Book application to make sure the fonts aren't defective and don't conflict with each other or with others that you already have. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. Deactivate or remove fonts that you don't really need to speed up application launching.
    5. Beware of malware. Malware is malicious software that circulates on the Internet. This kind of attack on OS X used to be so rare that it was hardly a concern, but it's now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must come directly from the developer's website. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from the web, without your having requested it, should go straight into the Trash. A web page that tells you that your computer has a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with it, is a scam.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    6. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem.
While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage use and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move seldom-used large files to secondary storage.
    7. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
To use a Mac effectively, you have to free yourself from the Windows mindset that every computer needs regular downtime maintenance such as "defragging" and "registry cleaning." Those concepts do not apply to the Mac platform. A computing device should not be a focus of your attention. It should be an almost invisible tool by means of which you communicate, work, and play. If you want a machine that is always whining for your attention like a neurotic dog, use a PC.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

I got a mac a few months ago and a few weeks ago I began to get mackeeper ads popping up in a different screen. Now it s getting worse and happening almost every time I click on something, and there s even more variety of what websites pop up. Now I have pop ups on the actual website I m on and they pop up every time I click something. It s really obnoxious and I hate it. How can I get rid of this....? It s really distracting

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Verizon Loyalty Department, got a question

I've been fortunate to have good dealings with the vzw loyalty department. I won't go much into the details for their sake but I have a question. They are going to let me buy a phone on the terms I sign up for a two year contract. I'm under contract now, and I have an unlimited data plan still, which I think dearly of. I was told to talk to the loyalty department once I receive the phone call I was told I would receive in the upcoming days, and be sure to ask them this question. Will I still be able to keep my unlimited data plan or will I have to give it up?

butteryfly, yes, I've had been calling since friday when my phone crapped out. Guys, my phone just stopped working, I called had my service moved to a flip phone, called again that day, and they wanted to send me a refurb phone, I didn't want it, they sent it anyway. Then on Saturday, I called and expressed how unhappy I was going to be with having a refurb phone, a refurb phone to me, is someone elses phone that they had problems with, and I don't want someone else's problems, and I told them that. I know that there is a slim chance I might have gotten a new phone of the one I had, I wont say what kind of phone, but none the less, I was not going to be happy.
I asked the rep, could I pay the etf, and then come back and buy a new, never been used phone, and I was put on hold while they checked his or her options. They came back and gave me two options, wait till my one year anniversary date, which is in a few weeks, then they would let me upgrade early, or I could pay the etf fee, come back to vzw in at least 50 days, and they would waive the fee once I bought a new phone.
I was afraid of this but as one of you stated, "don't give up your unlimited data plan at all cost". I am grateful for them doing what they are going to let me do, and I don't want to seem like i am ungrateful, cause I'm not but being with them since 2005, I came into my first smart phone, blackberry storm one, with an unlimited data plan, and to have that taken from my hands after they gave it to me, that hurts. I understand how contracts work, they place new terms and conditions in the new one, and you are the one that agrees to the terms. I want the need the phone, its my only means of reaching me but I don't want to give up my data plan for a smaller one.
I went to at&t yesterday, a corp store, and I asked about becoming a customer there. I was told that new customers have to sign up for a 3 gig plan, which is not bad, I never use that much data, I do use between 2 and 3 each month. But one thing that I was told is, existing customers that come in to upgrade, THEY GET TO KEEP THEIR UNLIMITED DATA PLANS, thats awesome if thats the case. Now that you know the full story, I appreciate your thoughts.

Hold down the mouse button or trackpad clicker as you start up.
If no joy, restart and hold the Option key. This brings up the Startup Manager, which will draw an Icon for each bootable Volume. When all are drawn, the Eject key is "live".

  • Is there a customer loyalty department who will listen to a problem and not just try to stall by suggesting another factory reset?

I've had an issue with my HTC one since I received it almost a year ago.  Both verizon and HTC have had me troubleshoot the device extensively, even though all indications are that it's not specifically my device, as my wife and a co worker have the same issue.  It has to do with conference calls, and not being able to hear one or more people on the call...other attendees sound fine, but there's always one or two who's voice fades out and trails off to the point of being unintelligible.  This, unfortunately, is a large part of my job, and I have to resort to a non-verizon phone to dial into conference calls.
I would like to stay with verizon, but you guys really are making it difficult.  Everything's great, as long as we don't complain, but after being a customer for over a decade, you can't even give me an early upgrade?  I think I'm due in October, but this issue has been going on for almost a year...
This same issue has been reported with HTC One's on Sprint as well.
HTC refuses to do anything about it, and pointed me to Verizon.
Verizon refuses to do anything about it, other than swap out the phone for the same model (which won't help)...or sell me a new phone at full price, because I am not eligible for an upgrade yet!  How is this good customer service?
Is there anyone there who cares about customers, and has the ability to think outside the box, or is empowered to help avoid a very negative c-sat issue?

What do you want Verizon to do? They did not screw up your device HTC did. And the issues are cross carriers, and across many makes of devices. So shall we blame Verizon wireless for every single operating system update? I hardly think so.
If consumers, you will note I did not say customers beat the phone maker up over the device failures, they will deflect to Google for the updated software. Hardware with software are supposed to work together. However sometimes it does not.
Also Verizon has opted not to grant early upgrades. Its their policy and it is their business. We as customers have the option of leaving for another carrier if we feel service is bad.
Then should I look for the same complaint on T-Mobiles forum? Sprints? Or even AT&T? They are all seeing the issues but are in the same pickle as Verizon customers.
    Good Luck

  • Is there actually a way to back up attached drives and have it work?

I have 2 identical 500GB drives attached to my Mac Mini (media computer). One of them contains nothing but my iTunes library (a little over 120GB) and I was just manually copying that to the other once a week or so. After reading up on Time Machine it sounded like the perfect way to keep my data backed up with little or no effort on my part so I committed to using it on the Mini, allowing TM to format (erase) the second drive and use it exclusively for TM.
Now the problem; I went into TM preferences and found my iTunes drive in the exclude list. I unchecked it and my "Total included" went from 50GB to 170GB as I would have expected. The issue is, I've forced it to backup several times now and I've let it run for a couple of days, but it still just shows the 50GB while it is doing it's backup and if I browse TM and go to the iTunes drive, I can only see the current files, no historical at all (I can confirm there are no iTunes files on the actual backup drive as well). So now I have no backup of my iTunes library (actually I did a manual copy to a little FireLite drive) and I'm running out of guesses as to how to get this to work properly.
I really like Time Machine and it works great on my MBP once I excluded all of my Parallels directories. It seems like what I'm trying to do with my iTunes should work based on what I've read and what the application is showing me, but it just doesn't. It doesn't even make an attempt from the progress dialog (always out of 50GB instead of the 170GB the preference panel is showing). I do have hostnames on all my Macs.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I saw some similar issues but nothing exactly the same. Is this, in fact, a bug I'm seeing? Am I misunderstanding something in the, relatively simple, interface?
    Thanks for any advice.

Just checking back in. There have been some software updates and I've played around some more, but I still can't make Time Machine (on one external USB drive) backup both the internal HD and another external USB drive.
I guess I'm still a little vague on whether or not this is even supported. Is it? Based on the control panel it would seem I'm doing everything correctly (unchecking the skip this drive option) but it just never even starts to backup my iTunes drive.
Anyone able to make this work or at least able to confirm that it doesn't / can't work?
