ISight shuts down internet?

When I start my iSight with iChat, my internet connection goes offline within a few minutes. Could the iSight be corrupt? It didn't do this until recently. The internet provider checked & re-checked the connection & it's fine.

In early model MacBook Pros the cable through the hinge (on route from Motherboard to Camera) could become frayed on well used models (open and closing the lid)
Later models have done away with that (rerouted cable) but suffer occasionally from the cable coming loose from the camera end.
If Apple Care is involved/available, I have seen posts were the whole screen is replaced (presumably for ease of access).
This is the sort of thing involved (this a a model Specific link)

There have been suggestions that some people pick up or steady their laptop with a finger and thumb pinch top centre of screen where the camera is that may contribute to this.
Trouble Shooting an iSight suggest testing in as many apps as possible, then in a different Mac User account, checking the System Profiler before suggesting a SMC/PMU Reset
Some have found that a Safe Boot (and then Restart) has helped.
If none of the Trouble Shooting stuff down helps, it is time for an engineer.

Attempting to Connect to Network Shuts down Internet Connection

I am setting up a G4 400 MgH Mac with AGP graphics to get on a network of computers. This originally came from a college where it was on a network running OSX and OS9.1, and I have added a 100 GB hard drive on which I installed OX10.4, and upgraded to OS9.2.2.
It is very odd, as when I try to connect to the network through the ethernet connection in starting up in OS9.2.2, it will connect to the other computers and to the internet without problems, and does not affect the internet connection. However, when I start up in OSX, all the other computers on the network lose their internet connection immediately when this computer boots up into OSX. I can, however, connect to the other computers on the network, but cannot connect to the internet. I am puzzled as to what resource in OSX must be damaged to cause such a problem. I have tried reloading Tiger, and have used Disk Warrior, but the problem is the same.
I would welcome any thoughts on how to fix this so we can get this added to the graphics network at our school.

Only thing I can think of is that the AGP in OSX must have a Network setting that is grabbing an already used IP, or perhaps even the IP of the Router, or perhaps is set to Share the Internet connection.
I'd first off uncheck all ports in Network Port Configurations, reboot, for a try check on Ethernet in Port congigs again.
2nd, I'd try giving the AGP a Manual IP above the possible range handed out by the router.
3rd, I'd make a new User and see if the same thing happens.
If that doesn't work, I'd try trashing these and rebooting...

Program won't open most pdf files. Also shuts down internet explorer. How do I solve this problem?

I installed the trial version of Acrobat XI Pro. When I tried to open various pdf files they wouldn't open. Clicking to open the files also caused internet explorer to close. Any help?

ITunes shuts down Internet after installation & Firewall

Okay, i have a very weird problem and i REALLY need this fixed. I am having issues after installing iTunes. I download iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit off of the Apple website, it downloads fine and i open up the setup and it installs fine, after installing i notice that my internet has an "X" over it indicating that it is offline, i tried to connect again but it does not work. After iTunes finishes installing it says to reboot, i do as it says but after reboot i notice that my ESET Smart Security Virus Protection is Red and it said that my computer is not being protected, i click on the bubble and it says that the Firewall, Anti-Virus, and Anti-Spyware failed to initiate due to a corruption in the program.. I don't know how this is even possible but the only way to fix this was to system restore. Now i have iTunes on my 2000 Dell Dimensions computer, this runs Windows Xp and iTunes works fine on this computer, it is not updated only because im afraid that it will do the same thing, and i need atleast one computer to sync my ipod to. PLEASEEE help me i really need this fixed.

Well before you try unistalling itunes and all that try right clicking on it and running it as administrator. It worked for me.
But in the event you do have to unistall, make sure you consolidate you library first library>organize library>consolidate. Then do all that or you will loose all your playlists, and if you have alot of music on your computer you don't keep in itunes it will be a long process to put everything back in it, or weed out the songs you don't want in there.
Also if you do the second idea make su eyou restart your computer before you open itunes again.

Internet apps shutting down

My iPod touch keeps shutting down internet apps. It's to the point now that I am only able to be on them for a few seconds before it shuts down, especially if I try to clink on links. What's wrong or is my iPod going to die?

SE card is shutting down my internet connection & rebooting

I just had a Audigy SE card installed at Best Buy , and now if I play sound files while connected to the internet, the system shuts down internet and will reboot my system (like in fatal error). Has anyone experienced this? I took the PC back to Best Buy to have them check it. After running diagnostics and playing sound fine there... I left scratching my head in confusion (why did it shutdown my system and not theirs). If I play sound files by cd or just on my hard dri've independently? or just connect to internet-everything seems fine. When I try to play a sound file while connected to internet my emachines system shuts off.

What tool are you using to determine your download speeds? If it is a web-based tool like Speakeasy, those are havily reliant on Flash which gives an innacurate assessment.
I use either PC Pitstop or the good old activity monitor. They are both much more accurate.
What happens if you skip Airport and use ethernet on your Mac?
I was running into this same problem and this is what I did to get things back into shape.
- Reset my router and modem.
- In the Mac's network settings, make sure that your connection method - either Airport or ethernet is listed first. If not, then drag it to the top of that list.
- Hit "configure" and then make sure that IPv6 is off and nothing is listed in the DNS field, but be sure to write those numbers down just in case.
- Clear the DNS from your router also.
Do these things one at a time and test your connection after each one. Be sure to note your settings that you do change just in case something goes horribly wrong.

IMac shutting down, problems connecting to internet

I have a 3-year old IMac that I am having problems with. The problems started gradually with trouble putting the computer to sleep, getting the grey film over the computer screen, telling me I need to shut down, and now when it's asleep, it will automatically shut down. When it is asleep, I have trouble waking it back up. I have to press the power button and re-start. Also, I have trouble connecting to the internet. It says "problems connecting to the internet". I have unplugged all cables, power cords, etc. and re-plugged everthing, and I still cannot connect. Any ideas?

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.
Reset Safari to remove cookies and other stored data.

After having no internet for over 24hrs, my IPad has completely shut down. I have tried everything I can think of, including a reset but think that was a really bad move!! Any ideas for how to get my pad back? Simple words please..I am not a pro AT ALL.

My internet was down for over 24hrs after a storm. During that time, my IPad completely shut down and I can't get it going again. I studied the manual but couldn't find a similar topic. I reset it and now it is totally goofed up.
Does anyone have any ideas or should I just take it to an Apple store and pay?? Any solutions you may have, PLEASE use simple words as I am not a pro, by any means....probably why I'm in this situation.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Quicktime codec does not work, internet explorer just shuts down!

I have reinstalled quicktime many times and still I cannot view any videos or movie previews on internet explorer that use the quicktime plugin. When I open the page that is supposed to use the plupin, a window pops up saying I should install the ActivX controller. When I press ok another popup comes up saying that internet explorer needs to shut don because of an error. So it just shuts down. I have tried to go through the support pages and I cant see anything that would seem to help so there is anyone who knows how to fix this problem, I would appreciate it.

It's been years since I use Internet Explorer (especially on a PC).
You must "enable" the ActiveX control in IE. (Probably a preference setting).
Have you tried using other Web browsers? Most are free.

I have a problem I can not up grade to the new AOL due to having a MAC 10.4. Now when I go on the site opens but when I finish one thing it tells me error message Offline Mode. What can i do it just shuts the internet down.

When I open Firefox , and go to AOL.com it goes to the home page with a message to up grade. I have tried that it tells me I can not do it on my operating system MAC 10.4. Now when I sign on to Aol to use my favorites some time it lets me on, but if i write something e-mail or such it sends it them tells me error message Offline mode check off in file which I do, but it shuts down the internet. I cannot get back on.

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

Recent freezing and shutting down every down 10-15 minutes and hard to log in to internet very slow

My son has 2009 Macbook white version and recently (last week or so) freezing all the time, cannot log on to internet, and shuts down every 10-15 minutes. Is there a download (free hopefully to clean it up for any spyware or maleware). He is a student and very busy in University and cannot be without the computer?

He will need something to back up onto like an external hard drive. The disks are necessary if the hard drive needs to be repaired, you can't repair the boot volume so you need to start up from an install disc and run Disk Utility from there. When you talk to him have him resettle SMC and pram, sometimes unexpected shutdowns can be corrected that way. The freezing is another issue, I'm concerned with the health of his hard drive. Another thing to ask when you talk to him is how much total space and how much free space does his hard drive have?
To reset the SMC

Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
