ISkin vs ZCover.   The best skin is....

Ive now got both a iSkin Evo3 and a ZSkin for my Ipod Video. They are both the same price but the best has to be the ZSkin.
The material of the ZCover is superior, doesn't feel as cheap and the whole thing looks classier!
So there you go!!
Im soon to try the Invisable Shield as a perminant alternative to both. Anyone any experience with th Invisable Shield?

GelaSkins, a Toronto based iPod skin company makes ultra-low profile, artist designed skins that will fit with virtually any accessory. You can protect your iPod from scratches without adding the bulk of other cases. No problem to use them with the iTrip or Dock connector, or even under a bulkier case if you are going to subject the iPod to serious abuse. Every skin comes with a great screen protector too. Crystal clear and bubble-free.
I am an employee of GelaSkins, and I am obligated to share this with you as discussed in the Appple Discussions agreement. However, by looking up GelaSkins in any search engine you will find several independent review sites that can confirm my post.
Hope you find the iPod protection you're looking for...

    Sorry, I don't like "skins". They inhibit the heat transfer necessary to keep your MBA cool. Get a soft or hard case to store it when not in use. I like Speck products.

    You should still be within the warranty for parts(that's 2 months if you bought the player in the US.) but you may need to pay for some labour charges if I'm not wrong. Perhaps you should contact Customer Support first and see if they can assist you further.

    Get the BodyGuardz shield. I don't use the front shield that comes with it. I use the anti-glares from the Apple store. It is awesome.

  • What is the best way to make skin uniform (not necessarily blurring it!)

    Hi,
    I have some photographs where the skin of the model's leg is not of uniform brighteness. Without blurring it, I have tried the clone stamp but it is very difficult to not introduce further variations in brightness.
    What is the best way to make skin uniform in brightness (actually, the same color!)?
    Thanks,

    I know EXACTLY what you mean.  I was doing something exactly on those lines just yesterday.
    It's not trivial, but it's doable.
    For hard "spots", you can try the Spot Healing Brush first.
    But here's a neat trick I sometimes use that can nicely increase the overall smoothness:
    1.  Select just the skin area.
    2.  Contract the selection a bit and feather the edge, just to make sure you don't mess up the edges.
    3.  Filter - Noise - Median, and adjust the radius to be fairly large.  Watch the image to see the smoothness level.
    4.  Edit - Fade and knock back the effect, so that it's not perfect, but makes a subtle improvement.
    Then, for gentle darkening lightening, try the Burn and Dodge Tools, set to a low Exposure level (and possibly with Airbrush Mode on).  Work gently.
    Cloning with low opacity can sometime help as well.

  • How can I create a new skin (other than the default skins) for my Captivate Project?

    Hi everyone,
    I am working on a project where my client wants me to create a player skin which is completely different from the default themes that captivate has already. The design which client has shared with me contains in this way:
    1. TOC - should be truncated and can be expanded by pressing "+" button against the Navigation Text. Its like opening and closing the menu bar using + and - buttons
    2. Playback controls required by him are also not in the default skins.
    I dont know, if there is any way to customize the skins to this level inside captivate.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks & Regards
    Vikas Sharma

    Unlikely, I'm afraid.
    The LMS has no control over the playbar that pauses or plays the Captivate content.
    In a Multi SCORM package, the LMS also may be showing a TOC in the SCORM player with links to launch the lesson modules.  This TOC is in addition to the TOC inside the Captivate project file which gives access to sections of the module by jumping to slides that begin those sections.  But the LMS doesn't usually give you any control over the look and feel or functionality of that TOC either.
    If your client is adamant that they want complete control over these areas, then your best option may be NOT to build this course with Captivate but build it from the ground up with another tool.  E.g. Flash, or Dreamweaver.  Either way, that will add a lot more time and expense to the project.  But if the client has the budget and is unwilling to budge on their requirement, then that's what I would be telling them to do.

  • What is the best way of dealing with an "implicit coercion" of an array to a sprite?

    Hello everyone!
         With continued help from this forum I am getting closer to having a working program. I look forward to being able to help others like myself once I finish learning the AS3 ropes.
         I will briefly explain what I am trying to achieve and then follow it up with my question.
    Background
         I have created a 12 x 9 random number grid that populates each cell with a corresponding image based on each cell's numeric value. I have also created a shuffle button that randomizes the numbers in the grid. The problem I am running into is getting my button-click event to clear the current images off the grid in order to assign new ones (i.e. deleting the display stack objects in order to place news ones in the same locations).
    Question
         My question is this: what is the best way to handle an implicit coercion from an array to a sprite? I have pasted my entire code below so that you can see how the functions are supposed to work together. My trouble apparently lies with not being able to use an array value with a sprite (the sprite represents the actual arrangement of the grid on the display stack while the array starts out as a number than gets assigned an image which should be passed to the sprite).

         Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Rothrock,
         Thank you for the reply. Let me address a few things here in the hopes of allowing you (and others) to better understand my reasoning for doing things in this manner (admittedly, there is probably a much better/easier approach to what I am trying to accomplish which is one of the things I hope to learn/discover from these posts).
         The elements inside my "imageArray" are all individual graphics that I had imported, changed their type to movie clips using .Sprite as their base class (instead of .MovieClip) and then saved as classes. The reason I did this was because the classes could then be referenced via "getDefinitionByName" by each cell value that was being passed to it. In this grid every number from 1 to 9 appears randomly 12 times each (making the 108 cells which populate the grid). I did not, at the time (nor do I now), know of a better method to implement for making sure that each image appears in the cell that has the corresponding value (i.e. every time a cell has the value of 8 then the custom graphic/class "skin8" will be assigned to it so that the viewer will be able to see a more aesthetically pleasing numerical representation, that is to say a slightly more fancy looking number with a picture behind it). I was advised to store these images in an array so that I could destroy them when I reshuffle the grid in order to make room for the new images (but I probably messed up the instructions).
         If the "drawCell" function only returns a sprite rather than the image array itself, doesn't that mean that my "eraseCells" function won't be able to delete the array's children as their values weren't first returned to the global variable which my erasing function is accessing?
         As for the function name "drawCells," you have to keep in mind that a) my program has been redesigned in stages as I add new functionality/remove old functionality (such as removing text labels and formatting which were originally in this function) and b) that my program is called "Blanko."
         I will try and attach an Illustrator exported JPG file that contains the image I am using as the class "skin7" just to give you an example of what I'm trying to use as labels (although it won't let me insert it here in this post, so I will try it in the next post).
    Thank you for your help!

  • What is the best practice - singleton & components

    I am converting a Flex 3.5 project to 4.0 and have hit a few snags.  One issue that I'm not sure about is the way to address labels.  We switch between English and Spanish if you click a button.
    I decided to make the component's labels all based on a singleton class.  The label values there would alter between the languages.  I made them bindable in the singleton.
    1) should I directly associate the labels with the singleton "get" method for the appropriate label
    2) should I have a bindable variable in the component that is set from the singleton "get" method and then associate that variable with the various labels
    The first method saves a variable in the component while the second seems slightly more readable.
    Way one:
            [Bindable]
            protected var childSupLabel:String = getLabels.getExpChildSupLabel();
            <DHSclasses:AutoResizableTextArea
                  id="courtOrderedChildSupportLabel"
                  text="{childSupLabel}"
                  autoResize="true"
                  editable="false"
                  tabEnabled="false"
                  textAlign="right"
                  wordWrap="true"
                  left="5"
                  width="89%"/>
    Way two:
                    <DHSclasses:AutoResizableTextArea
                        id="elderlyMedicalExpensesLabel"
                        text="{getLabels.getExpMedExpLabel()}"
                        autoResize="true"
                        editable="false"
                        tabEnabled="false"
                        textAlign="right"
                        wordWrap="true"
                        left="5"
                        width="89%"/>

    Jerry,
    I keep asking for a simple test case.  It should only take an hour or so to create, much less time than you’ve spent and we’ve spent trying to guess how your code works from snippets.  There are two common approaches to creating such a test case.  One is to start from an empty app and copy in a few things at a time, another is to start with a copy of the current app and comment stuff out.  A test case is unambiguous.  I put it into the debugger and the problem will appear and we can make explicit recommendations.  Emails and code snippets are way to ambiguous.  Flex isn’t particularly hard, and the folks on the forum are quite helpful, but you have to help us help you by removing ambiguity.  I know the temptation is to hope that spending 30 seconds to send a snippet and question will save you from the hour of creating the test case, but the way I see it, there are several advantages to taking the hour to prepare the test case.  They are:
        -you might be waiting that hour for a response anyway,
        -in preparing the test case, a significant number of people discover the solution on their own, long before the hour is up
        -the chances you’ll get bad advice goes way down.
        -the inability to create a test case quickly serves as an indicator that your app is not modular enough
    I have touched many of the support issues you’ve logged via your support contract with Adobe.  Their process is also quite similar.  The support tech will ask for a simple test case.  By using the Adobe Support, you will get guaranteed, dedicated responses.  That’s what you’ve paid for.  Use it to your advantage.
    You are welcome to fire off the quick 30-second question, but when a responder asks for a test case, it is time to take the time to create one.  Also, you started your last reply by saying “I listen”, but Amy and I both have mentioned the Array event dispatching issue and I have asked for a test case several times.
    I will repeat a guess one more time as to the nature of this particular problem, which I described in an earlier response, then I will no longer respond to this thread until I see a simple test case posted.  And that is: The variable for the English class is not being initialized before it is being used.  When you step through in the debugger, all get functions in the class get called in order to populate the debugger’s variables pane, and that can cause initialization of values to occur in a different order than when you just run the app.  Variables with metadata are implemented as get functions so they can be affected.
    Adobe wants all of our customers to continue to use Flex.  Flex’s main advantage is reduced development costs.  The best way to show your management the advantages of Flex is the continue to improve your development practices to be more efficient, and that includes the development of modular code, use of existing features like the ResourceManager instead of trying to develop your own, and a refinement of the way you use resources like forums, the internet, and Adobe Support in getting your application ready for production.
    Going from Flex 3 to Flex 4 is a big change in development practices if you want to use the Spark components.  The principle behind Spark was to enable designers to control every aspect of the visuals without having to learn about ActionScript and CSS styles.  If that principle does not provide a significant advantage to you, then the MX components may make you happier.  Spark also provides a consistent skinning workflow.  If you don’t do much custom skinning because everything you need to change is available via CSS, then you also have less of a reason to use the Spark components. You can still move to Flex 4 and use the MX components and still get the advantages of two-way data binding, the new states syntax, and more.  Just use the MX components and specify the Halo theme, as I have suggested before.

    What is the best way to replay a slide? The 'Rewind' button in the default player skins restarts the course from the begining. Is there a way to set a custom button to replay a slide without restarting the course?

    Do you want it on each slide? Are you on CP7 or 6? Create a shape button: you can do it either on the master slide, or on the first slide timed for the rest of the project. Be sure to put it on top if it could be covered by other projects. Create this advanced (or shared action on CP7 if you want to reuse in future projects):

  • [Flex 4.5.1] What is the best way of adopting a flex built website for mobile "as is"?

    What is the best way of adopting a flex 4.5.1 built website for mobile "as is"?
    I have a website built with flex 4.5.1 which I want to be working on mobile as it should - meaning that touch style of interactions should be working not mouse.
    The question is: Do I HAVE TO recode all of my website from Application into Mobile Application in order to be a more lightweight version of the original one, which includes: remove some functionality, pages, animation, build a separate backend and cms to control it etc.?
    OR
    Can I just define mobile skins, for my existing components to use when in mobile mode, in which I could have done some tweaking by removing some unnecessary parts and changing component interactionMode to Touch ?
    Are both options which I see possible and if yes - which one would you recommend?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the answer. Yeah I bet you figured out what I want the answer to be, but is it ? That's why I am asking here. I can see my website on my HTC Desire HD and it's working pretty well. If I reskin the parts that need a bigger hit area or the scrollers to work with touch so I don't have to scroll the actual scrollbars with my finger, remove some complex animations - everything will work just fine... The problem is that I am not sure if that is the right way to do it or if it is possible at all.
    I do get your point about not designed for mobile stuff, but while with html 5 you get the job done for web and mobile with little differences at the same time, in flash you need double time cause you'll have to build 2 projects. And since the framework is one for both web and mobile.. why not...
    I want to see the pros and cons of the both approaches I suggested. In a complex modular architecture I could easily swap one web module with a mobile module for example or change skins or components if I need more lightweight ones, but do I have to copy all that logic in to a MobileApplication, can't I do it with Application and use the MobileComponents (which are simplier and less functional) if the project actually needs them...
    I do hope you get why I am asking these questions, and I can't believe I haven't found a guide or something like that "why this and not that" when it comes to mixing web with mobile development and flex... If you have, please share the link, I would be happy to read. Or someone with the experience in what I am talking about shares some knowledge, that would be great!
    Thanks.

  • Which app is the best for viewing documents without sliding while zooming?

    I have many novels saved under *.htm, doc and pdf.

    All running on Wine 1.1.7, Oblivion is running around 150 mods, and QTP3, Body mods, High res texture packs for the character skins, with HDR lighting. As you can see the FPS does not change, it fluctuated between 19-20 on all three runs.
    Especially with Dual cores, you will find that games do not loose FPS even with things like a lightweight music player running in the background. Windows scheduler simply was not made for that kind of thing, and benifits alot more from a lower number of background processes. I wont say linux does not benifit, but with Dual cores and CFS, it is not really noticable anymore.
    Wait, does that mean you have better performance while you are running more stuff? Does the desktop manager handle graphics better?
    This really did confuse me...
