Iteration in formulas

my formula said that there is an arror because it refers to the same cell (or dipends by an other formula referring to itself). I know the problem and I solved with "iteration" in MS Excel. There is not a solution in Numbers?

In Numbers there is no way to drop the "circular references".
You must try to build an alternate scheme.
My preferred one is to use an Applescript.

  • IF ELSE Statement in Member Formula

    I believe that I am in my final step of completing my database. But, I need to create a member formula that converts lbs to kg. I have gotten help on this question in the past and have a basic formula that works. However, I have 2 exceptions to the formula that are not successfully calculating.
    This much of the formula has been tested and works when isolated:
    IF (@ISMBR(@LIST(AccountCapacityTypeX,AccountCapacityTypeY,AccountCapacityTypeZ)))
    "LBS"/2.2046;
    ELSEIF ((@ISMBR(@List(AccountCapacityTypeA, AccountCapacityTypeB) )) and (@ISMBR(@LIST(MbrNm1, MbrNm2,"Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr","May","Jun","Jul","Aug","Sep","Oct","Nov","Dec","Qtr1","Qtr2","Qtr3","Qtr4"))))
    @round(("LBS"/2.2046),0);
    else
    @round(("LBS"/(2.2046*5)),0)*5;
    ENDIF
    However, the following checks out when I verify my syntax, but when it is added to the above formula the formula does not load:
    IF ((@ismbr(MbrNm3)) and
    (@ISMBR(@LIST("Region1","ParentOfRegion1","GrandparentOfRegion1","Y2008","Y2009","Y2010","Y2011","Y2012","Y2013","Y2014","2015","Y2016","Y2017","Y2018")) and (@ISMBR(@List(AccountCapacityTypeA, AccountCapacityTypeB)))))
    105;
    ENDIF
    IF ((@ismbr(MbrNm4)) and
    (@ISMBR(@LIST("Region1","ParentOfRegion1","GrandparentOfRegion1","Y2012","Y2013","Y2014","Y2015","Y2016","Y2017","Y2018")) and (@ISMBR(@List(AccountCapacityTypeA, AccountCapacityTypeB)))))
    425;
    ENDIF
    Members MbrNm1-4 are all stored, zero level members of the same dimension. My years, months, and qtrs are dense dimensions, everything else is sparce. AccountCapacityTypes contain both calculated and stored members. Region dimension contains all stored members. Also lbs are a stored member.
    Any ideas on how to make these 2 exceptions work?
    Thank you,
    C-Lo

    Hello Cameron Lackpour,
    I have tried several iterations of this calc script, and gotten it to mostly work. The issue that I have is that it calculates everything correctly, but when I @remove the one year that want the calc script to calculate differently that year retrieves values for #missing as desired, but when I try to write a calc script for that single excluded year the second calc script still doesn't run for the whole condition that is defined. I don't know if any of that makes any since, but below is an example:
    FIX("JOLEFINS_JCP")
    FIX(@REMOVE(@RELATIVE("Years", 0), @Member("Y2008")))
    *"KMT"*
    IF (@ismbr(@list("MajorTurnarounds","InventoryCtrl","Feedslate/ProdMixImpct","ActsOfNat","Fdstk/RawMtlAvail",
    *"OtherExtEvents","ExternalLPOs","InternalLPOs","PlndMntc","Mech/ProcLoss","AbvCapProd","Other","Actual","Adjusted","MaxDmstdCap")))*
    *"MMLBS"/2.2046;*
    ELSEIF(@ISMBR("Published Capacities","EOY_PubCap"))
    *@round(("MMLBS"/(2.2046*5)),0)*5-1.25;*
    ENDIF
    ENDFIX (everything in bold is calculating correctly)
    FIX (@RELATIVE("Years", 0), @member("2008"))
    +"KMT"+
    +(+
    IF (@ismbr(@list("MajorTurnarounds","InventoryCtrl","Feedslate/ProdMixImpct","ActsOfNat","Fdstk/RawMtlAvail",
    +"OtherExtEvents","ExternalLPOs","InternalLPOs","PlndMntc","Mech/ProcLoss","AbvCapProd","Other","Actual","Adjusted","MaxDmstdCap")))+
    +"MMLBS"/2.2046;+
    ENDIF
    IF(@ISMBR("Published Capacities"))
    +@round(("MMLBS"/2.2046),0)/1.08;+
    ENDIF This portion in italics returns #Missing . However, the loaded data ("MMLBS") does return data for this year.
    IF (@ISMBR("EOY_PubCap"))
    *8.75;*
    ENDIF This portion seems to be calculating as well.
    ENDFIX
    ENDFIX
    CALC ALL;
    Any additional suggestions?
    Thanks,
    C-Lo

  • Is it possible to use extensive formulas (e.g. "if" or vlookup functions) in the "Custom Calculation Script"?

    I am working on a form fill PDF converted from MS excel. This is for others to use who don't have MS excel that need to use my spreadsheet.
    1. I would like to know how complex can the formulas be in the custom calculation script in the calculate tab under properties in a cell menu?
    2. Where can I find what formulas will work in the custom calculation script along with the format for those formulas to work correctly (tutorials would help)?
    I have tried writing an "if" function but received and error so I am assuming either functions don't work in the script or there is a different format than standard spreadsheet formats.
    Bruce

    In that case the for loop would be:
        for (var i = 0; i < 8; i += 1) {
            sum += +getField("Total." + i).value;
    So initially, the counter i is equal to zero, so the field name used with the getField method is:
    "Total." + 0, which results in the string "Total.0". With each iteration, the variable i is incremented by 1, so the subsequent field names are the following:
    "Total.1"
    "Total.2"
    "Total.3"
    "Total.4"
    "Total.5"
    "Total.6"
    "Total.7"
    The script gets the value of each field, converts it to a number, and adds the number it to the running sum.

  • Transferring the values from a known range of cells (containing formulas) in Excel using Applescript

    I have my AppleScript iterating thru email messages and pasting data (which arrives via email from a web form) into following cells: range "A1:A50"
    My Excel parsing of data occurs in cell formulas on Row 52, cells in range "A52:AZ52"
    I want to copy the cells in row 52 and paste the Values (not the formulas) in successive rows underneath the formula cells, starting with row 54: range "A54:AZ54"
    In pseudo code the code snip is:
    tell worksheet "sheet1" of workbook "Example" application "Microsoft Excel"
         repeat i from 1 thru to (count emails)
              paste some of the contents of (email item i) into sheet range "A1:A50"
                                            # the above forms about twenty lines of code to get it
                                                  into Excel's cell object list or lists
              copy or get row 52   # or range "A52:AZ52" if that's easier/faster/better
              paste or set the values of row 52 into row (53+i)
         end repeat
    end tell
    Not sure whether to use the clipboard with "paste speical…[range] with []" or copy and set value statements. I only know how to reference existing ranges, not the cell contents of the range. I really need to know how to get contents of cells into a AppleScript object (list) that I can transfer. The 2004 Excel AS documentation is not helping me, please throw me a life line someone. :-)

    One other question if I may hijack my thread, if I wanted to set the column of the range programatically how would I do that?
    I know how to programatically set the row eg.
         set x to 54
         set r to range "A" & x & ":AZ" & x
         set tVlaue to value of r
    But I need something like Column (x) to make one of {"A","B","C",…}
    but column(2) gives me $B:B$
    and: "column(2) as text" (so I can halve it) beachballs Script Debugger and Excel and I have to stop the script and restart Excel!

  • "Eval Parsed Formula Node VI" does not return outputs in predefined order

    I make a data analysis program, where the data consists of some million events and each event has e.g. 4 channels and 1-5 hits on each channel.
    I would like the user to select different expressions of these channels to give coordinates to plot in a 2D histogram (increment a bin in Intensity Graph), e.g. for some experiment you want to show x=ch1-ch2; y=ch1+ch2+ch3+ch4; while in another experiment you want x=ch1-123; y=123-ch2;
    There are other VIs that use static LabView-code for the normal things, but now after a few years of adding to this program I find that it would be quite good with a general plotter and let the user specify simple expressions like this. Also with the "normal" static plots, there is a need to filter out bad data and then it would be much simpler both to program and use if you could write text expressions with boolean logic to combine multiple filters. Making a LabView code and GUI that allows AND/OR/parenthesis combinations of expressions will be quite an effort and not very reusable.
    So, with the above motivation, I hope you see that it would make sense to have a useable string formula evaluator in LabView. I find some info about MathScript's user-defineable functions, but haven't managed to get MathScript working in LV2010 yet (maybe some licensing or installation issues, I think I had it in 8.6). But I think it would be possible to do most of what I want for the display-part (not the filtering) with the simpler Eval/Parse Formula Node VIs and suitable use of the limited variable name space. So I started testing, and found a quite annoying issue with how the evaulator works.
    To the parser, you are expected to send an array of output variable names. But then it ignores this array, and returns one output per assignment/semicolon in the formula, in the order of the formula text. Since the static parts of my program need to know what the output values mean (which of them is x and which is y), I would have to rely on the user not using any intermediate variable and defining x before y. The attached screenshot demonstrates the problem, and also that it has been solved by NI statff in the "Eval Formula Node VI" which does the appropriate array-searching to extract only the pre-defined outputs, in their expected order. But using that VI is about 100 times as slow, I need to pre-compile the formula and then only use the evaulator in the loop that runs over a million events.
    I don't know if I'll take the time to make my own tweks to the parsing stage (e.g. preparation of array-mapping to not have to repeat the search or maybe hacking the output list generated by the parser) or if I'll have to make it in a static Formula Node in the block-diagram (which supports more functions), so that the user has to run with development environment and stop the program to change the plotting function. But I wanted to share this trouble with you, in hope of improvments in future LabView versions or ideas from other people on how I could accomplish my aim. I have MATLAB-formula node possibility too, but is far as I have seen the only place the user could update the formula would then be in a separate .m file, which is re-read only when typing "clear functions" in the Matlab console window. (Having this window is also an annoyance, and perhaps the performance of calling Matlab in every iteration is not great.)
    Besides this issue, it also seems very strange there is virtually no support for conditional expressions or operators in Formula Node evaulated formulas (called Mathematics VIs in the documentation). Maybe using (1+sign(a-b))/2 you can build something that is 0 when a<b and 1 when a>b, but it is not user friendly! Would it really be diffcult to add a function like iif(condition, return_value_if_true, return_value_if_false) to replace the unsupported "condition ? if_true : if_false" operator? Would it really be difficult to add support for the < <= >= > == || && operators? Although compiled to an assemply language, this can't exactly be difficult for a CPU.

    (1) You can put any kind of code inside an event structure with the limitation that it should be able to complete quickly and without user interaction.  For example a while loop for a newton-raphson method is fine, but an interactive while loop where the stop condition depends on user iteraction is not recommended. By default, event structures lock the front panel until the event completes, so you would not even be able to stop it.
    (2) Yes, you can do all that. LabVIEW has no limitation as a programming language. Use shift registers to hold data and state information, the manipulate the contents as needed.
    (3) I would recommend to use plain LabVIEW primitives instead of formula nodes. Show us your code so we can better see what it's all about. Obviously you have a mismatch betweeen scalars and arrays. It is impossible from the given information where the problem is.
    (4) Yes, look inside the nonlinear curve fit VI (you can open it an inspect the code!). One of the subVIs does exactly that. Just supply your model VI.

  • Using the Previous Row in a Calculator Formula

    Hello.  I am using the calculator to create a new channel that is a custom filtered version of an existing channel.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to identify the previous row entry in the channel.  To make things easier, let's say my filter is a simple averager.  Here is simple pseudocode for what I want to do:
    New_Channel = (Existing_Channel[n] + Existing_Channel[n-1]) / 2
    where n is the current row.
    This is the calculator formula I have come up with:
    ch("[1]/New_Channel") = (CHD(chnRow - 1, "[1]/Existing_Channel") + ch("[1]/Existing_Channel")) / 2 + CTNV(chnRow > 1)
    Unfortunately, I think chnRow only returns 0.
    Obviously, I am a beginner.  I am open to other approaches to creating a new channel with a custom filter.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi jbuttron,
    What you need to do is to copy the channel and delete the first value from the copied channel-- then the Nth row of the original channel will line up with the (N-1)th row of the copied channel.  You should also add the last value of the copied channel to the end of that channel as a new value so both channels end up with the same channel length.  Now you can reference the channels with Ch("[1]/old") and Ch("[1]/new") in the channel calculator expression, assuming that the channel names are "old" and "new" respectively and that both are in the first group.  You don't need a row variable in the expression now, which is good because there's no way to iterate a row variable in a channel calculator expression.  The row iteration is implicit in the channel referencing Ch("[1]/new").

  • Crystal Report formula with datediff not working as expected

    We need a Crystal Report formula to display the number of seconds the oldest arriving call has been waiting.  Across multiple resources that can each have an "oldest call".  The database stores a datetime value for the time the oldest call arrived.  If there are no waiting calls, then this field is NULL.  (MSSQL database).  It seemed reasonable to implement this in a formula that 1) discovers the minimum of "oldest call" timestamps in the selected records, and 2) to use "datediff" to produce the difference (in seconds) between the "oldest call" timestamp and current time.
    The first attempt at this relied on "implied" iteration that could be done within a formula.  Something like:
    data: OLDESTARRIVALTIME
           null
           '2014-06-14 08:08:08.000'
           null
          '2014-06-14 08:07:55.000'
           null
    whilereadingrecords;
    datetimevar minArrival;
    if isNull({SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.OLDESTARRIVALTIME}) = False
                   and minArrival < {SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.OLDESTARRIVALTIME} then
         minArrival := {SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.OLDESTARRIVALTIME};
    DateDiff("s", minArrival, {SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.UTCDATE})
    We tried storing the values of OLDESTARRIVALTIME in an array.  We could see it iterating, but the values in the array only contained
    the column value from the first record.
    This was to solve the problem of screening null values and producing the minimum of the set.
    Since that didn't work (and the web articles seemed to imply this would iterate over all the records, we tried another approach.  This
    time we set NULL timestamps in the table to a timestamp far in the future, so that we could directly apply "minimum" to produce
    the correct "begin" for datediff.
    data: OLDESTARRIVALTIME
              '2030-01-01 00:00:00.000'
              '2014-06-14 08:08:08.000'
              '2030-01-01 00:00:00.000'
              '2014-06-14 08:07:55.000'
              '2030-01-01 00:00:00.000'
    datetimevar minArrival = minimum({SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.OLDESTARRIVALTIME});
    datetimevar minUTC = minimum({SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.UTCDATE});
    if minArrival < minUTC then
         DateDiff("s", minArrival, minUTC)
    else
         0
    (minUTC would be current time in UTC)
    So, to start things off, the last formula produces negative numbers!  They hover in negative seconds within a negative minute (-33, -45, etc.).
    That's inconceivable, considering the test for minArrival < minUTC.  Both of the fields are "datetime".
    As it turns out, in the near term, it's most important to get the second formula working.  And, of course, insights into getting the first
    formula to work are welcome as well!
    Have we run into some weird behavior of the "DateDiff" function?
    Thanks!

    If DateDiff is always returning a negative number you could try swapping the dates around in the call to DateDiff - it should look like this:
         DateDiff("s", minUTC, minArrival)
    Or you could use the Absolute Value of the calculation:
         Abs(DateDiff("s", minUTC, minArrival) )
    As for your first formula, you need to initialize the variable to a value prior to using it in the comparison.  If you don't, its value is null and comparing it against a value won't work.  (See What is Null and Why is it Important for Crystal Reports | SAP BI BLOG for a blog that I wrote about working with nulls in Crystal.)
    You should change your existing formula to something like this:
    whilereadingrecords;
    datetimevar minArrival;
    if OnFirstRecord then minArrival := DateTime(2013, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0);
    if not isNull({SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.OLDESTARRIVALTIME})
                   and minArrival > {SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.OLDESTARRIVALTIME} then
         minArrival := {SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.OLDESTARRIVALTIME};
    Note how I changed the If statement.  Also, you want to replace minArrival with the field value if the field is less than the current value of minArrival - so you need to use ">" instead of "<" in the comparison.  Place this formula in the details section.  It will now show anything because of the semi-colon on the end.  This will ensure that it gets evaluated for every record.
    Now, create a second formula that looks like this:
    whileReadingRecords;
    datetimevar minArrival;
    DateDiff("s", minArrival, {SVCCLASSMEASURES_VW.UTCDATE})
    Place this formula in a footer section - it will not work in a header section.  If you need it in a header section you might be able to take the "whilereadingrecords" off of both formulas and use the "Maximum()" summary function to get the correct value.

  • Purely iterative price in controlling area setting

    Dear Experts,
    Please let me know the use and implication of a tick " Purely iterative price" coming in Version setting of controlling area fiscal year wise (Txn Code OKEQ).
    Thanks in Advance for co operation
    Regards
    Rohit

    HI Waman,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I want to clarify some more doubts as follow:
    1)  How this iterative price is calculated means by which transaction code, Is it calculated at the time of automatic plan price calculation means thru KSS4 & KSPI..
    2) What is formula system uses to calculate this price, like plan price may be calculated based on Planned Cost /Planned Activity.
    3) Where we can see this price means in which Txn Code.
    4) As you have said that this cannot be used for revaluation, then what is the use, Is it only for Analysis purpose.
    5) Is there any other settings we have to do in activity master or any other,  to calculate the same.
    Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

  • Need a formula to calulate multiple cells and add the sum total to a cell in a other table

    Im a chef and my monthly inventory is a time consuming task. I get invoices from multiple suppliers on each day of the week. I enter them into a spread sheet and then need to add the sum total for all the invoices for say MONDAY. That total needs to be entered into a cell in another table  called "daily spend". Is there a formula to automatically add say all the invoices from monday and input the daily spend cell on that table. Here is an example
    I created a column B-to give each day a number(sometimes multiple invoices come from the same supplier for each day)<GREEN>..If there was a way to do this differently...Im happy to change the layout of the spreadsheet.  I want to add the total $ (column F)  for each day together(all the blue fields) and then insert the total into another cell seen in the next  table .  So in this example its F4+F16+F17=?, ? inserted into N2 of the next table
    Thanks so much

    "I ve finally has a play with the advice you gave me but I have realized that the formula you gave me is for a week....and like I mentioned in my reply to you, one table is weekly the other is monthly....is there a way to overcome this? (my answer to you explains it)"
    Hi Gavin,
    Unfortunately, the scale of your illustrations in that reply made them difficult (or impossible) to read, even on the Retina screen.
    The first formula, used to fill column B, extracts the Weekday number for each date. Since these numbers should be equivalent to the day of the month, You'll need to replace this with a formula that returns the Day value of each date:
    Old:
    B2: =WEEKDAY(A,2)
    New:
    B2: =DAY(A)
    Fill down to end of column.
    Because of the arrangeent of your Data table, you will need to repeat this formula in column H (with references to column G), etc. for each set of dates in the table.
    The SUMIF formula in column F is fine as is, except that it assumes all condition data will be in column B of Data, and all data to be summed will be in column F of Data. Since this is obviously not the case for your Data table, you will need a separate iteration of the formula for each week in the table, with the four SUMIF statements enclosed in a SUM statement:
    E2: =SUM(SUMIF(Data :: $B,A2,Data :: $F),SUMIF(Data :: $H,A2,Data :: $L),SUMIF(Data :: $N,A2,Data :: $R),SUMIF(Data :: $T,A2,Data :: $X))
    Fill down for as many rows as there are days in the month being summarized.
    Column references in the formula assume that six columns are used for each week, and that there is no gap in the table between weeks.
    Note that the formula does not distinguish between transactions on July 7 and those on June 7 or August 7. Because of this, the Data table must be limited to transactions in a single calendar month.

    Barry

  • SSAS DAX formula for same period last year not same month last year

    The DAX function sameperiodlastyear, only works if the period we are interested in, is the same as a month.
    However our Period 3 for 2014 was 05-march to 04-April and Period 3 in 2013 was 01-March to 31-March
    I have a dim_Date table with a separate Year Number and Period Number so you be able to match on Period Number and Year - 1
    The sort of formula I am after is this, so that the P3 total for 2013 matches the value reported as 'PY' against P3 2014
    so for example
    PY:=calculate(sum(amount), dim_date(year) = dim_date(year-1) && dim_date(period) = dim_date(period)
    I cannot find an exact example of how to construct the DAX formula to achieve this.
    I have tried DAXPatterns.com, but that does not have an exact example.
    Thanks in advance
    Sotn

    All built-in time intelligence functions work on the standard Gregorian calendar. The only fiscal calendars that can be handled by the built-in functions are those that end on another day than December 31, but otherwise respect the standard months/quarters.
    The problem you are encountering in your [PY] is that CALCULATE() only allows simple boolean predicates (no calculations allowed. FILTER() is the function that allows you to execute arbitrary logic in your CALCULATE() filter arguments.
    Try this:
    PY:=
    CALCULATE(
    SUM( <fact table>[amount] )
    , FILTER(
    ALL( dim_date )
    , dim_date[year] = MAX( dim_date[year] ) - 1
    && dim_date[period] = MAX( dim_date[period] )
    Here's what's going on in that FILTER(). FILTER() is an iterator - it steps row-by-row through the table that you pass as the first argument, and returns only those rows that meet the criterion you set in the second argument.
    We pass ALL( dim_date ). This strips the current filter context from the pivot table and returns every row of dim_date.
    In the second argument to FILTER() we define the logic that will determine which rows to return. This comes in two parts, connected with the logical and operator, &&. I will only explain one in detail as we're using the same pattern in each part.
    dim_date[year] is referring to the value of the column [year] based on where you are in the table (remember, FILTER() is stepping row-by-row through), so will return one value from the current row based on FILTER()'s iteration.
    It then compares that value to what is returned by MAX( dim_date[year] ) - 1. This expression is not evaluated in the current row context of FILTER(), rather in the filter context of the pivot table (in a pivot table your row and column labels are referred
    to as rowfilters and columnfilters - this nomenclature can get confusing). Thus, it returns whatever the current year of the pivot table is and subtracts one. When the value of [year] in dim_date matches the value returned by this expression, that row is part
    of the set returned by FILTER().
    Once FILTER() has completed its iteration, it returns the filtered table, and that table is used to set the filter context that SUM( <fact table>[amount] ) is evaluated in.

  • How do I determine array size in a formula node

    I am feeding an array into a formula node to perform an operation on. However the size of the array can be an arbitrary size. How can I determine its size to use for iterating through a for loop?
    I suppose that I could add another input that is fed with the array size from the array palate but I would like to know if it can be done inside the formula node itself.

    Your own advice is the only and best one.

  • Planning Function Execution Using Formula Function

    Is there a way to execute a "planning function" N times in a formula function and being able to change the parameters of the "planning function" on each iteration.
    Regards,
    salman

    Salman,
    You should go for any kind of Exit functions when they are really required, I guess your requirement is like such that you have certain selections different in your level and accordingly you are planning.
    Then you should go on creating packages as many different selections you can on a level and you call them up using a sequence.
    That's good way to deal this, I hope this is a helpfull input for you

  • Question on how to use a variable in report object's horizontal formula to shift back and forth at refresh interval.

    Hello All;
    I have an SSRS Report that displays some slider objects. The report auto-refreshes every 5 minutes.
    This report is displayed on a big screen TV and I want to shift the images back and forth every time it refreshes to prevent possible burn-in on the screen.
    I see you can use a formula on the Horizontal position of objects, and I think a variable that gets added 10 and then subtracted by 10 every refresh could be used to display the objects in different positions each iteration, but I don't know how to do that
    in SSRS. I have read up on variables, and I think I need a global variable, but not sure how to update it on each refresh iteration.
    I read the links on using Silverlight to shift things, but that adds a whole other level of complexity.
    I could even do something in the DB and then pull that into the formula field if needed.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Formula Node Calculation Issues

    I'm trying to make an array where the output is defined by the formula 25*(2^x) where x is the input variable, with integer iterations from 0 to 7.  To do this, I made an formula node and put it in a for loop.  Unfortunately the (^) symbol is not working right for the calculation.  I tested it simply with x^2 and this did not work, while having x*x returned the correct values.  Instead of outputting the correct values, it outputs seemingly random integers.  Anyone know why?  I am new to this software so I apologize if this this a common issue but I could not find help anywhere else.
    Solved!

    If you use the numeric primitives rather than a formula node, craziness can be avoided (well, sometimes).
