Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

You can redownload you previously purchased apps for free as long as they are still available in the app store. Be sure you are logged into the Apple ID in iTunes used to purchase them, then follow this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.

The help info, HT4901, was the closest info from the Help pages but it assumed we were already on icloud and had simply disconnected our calendar from icloud. Actually, we were simply trying to synch our devices by signing up with icloud for the first time, so it seems our calendar never had a chance to get uploaded. In any case, how do you reconnect / re-access a calendar on icloud?

If your calendar does not appear on icloud.com it never uploaded to iCloud. If it is no longer on your computer you would have to restore it from a backup source such as Time Machine to restore it.

You need to restore the folder using the (Put back) selection (CTRL click).

If that did not work, then try triple-tapping the home button. If that does not work, then double-tap 3 fingers and hold on the screen, dragging to change the zoom level. It sounds like you restored from an old back-up. Did you back-up just before your software update? It will use your last one and if your last back-up was a ywear old then it will use that one.
In general, if you are getting these messages on your iPhones select logout (when you get that Apple Id request) and then log back in with your newer ID.

hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.

What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

Hi Sarah,
It sounds like the songs have either not yet synced over to the iPhone, or something went wrong when attempting to sync to the iPhone. My recommendation is to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox.
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

I think this problem occurred when it updated from the beta 5 that I was running.
Beta 5 was removed because it did not return me to my home page on restarting. It brought up my last visited page

Firefox is customizable, you can drag the new tab button from one toolbar to another or return it to the customize dialog box. When on the Tabs Bar bar it looks like a Plus sign with a black "+", when on the navigation bar it looks like a white "+" and a black background of filing cabinet folder. I think you have the new tab button next to the tabs but with tabs bar on top it is so confusing.

It's not MacOS or Windows? What OS, then? Ubuntu or some other flavor of Linux I assume?
I'm going to assume it's Linux...and with that in mind, iTunes will not work on that OS, even if you attempt this under a tool like WINE. Sorry. The only way to run iTunes tmk is to build a Windows VM (virtual machine) via a tool like Virtualbox, but you'd still need a Windows license and media image to do that.
