Itunes automatic update

Starting with Itune 7.1.1, anytime I try to update the software, I get the following message: "The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." Anybody run into this..?

I have tried to use automatic install (upgrade from. .34 to .35) and get the same message, I have tried the stand alone and same thing happends. I tried to uninstall (using add/remove) but same message. I have the .34 msi available, but it still gives me the same message.

  • After trying to run the iTunes automatic update, I got this "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." Click OK to try again,or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'itunes.msi"

After trying to run the iTunes automatic update, I got this box on my pc "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi" in the box below.. I ran a search for the file, and entered that into the box, to no avail. Then I launched iTunes and clicked on 'check for updates', and was told I had the latest version 11.0.1 I think it is. So, any clue on what to do? Thanks for any and all help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • What will happen to the organization of library if I removed the songs from windows explorer? Will iTunes automatically updated without all the deleted songs, or it will indicate 'missing location'? Any fast ways to clear this 'missing location' songs?

What will happen to the organization of library if I removed the songs from windows explorer?
Background: I found it easier to identify duplicated songs in windows explorer as the songs will be renamed .... 1.mp3, thus enabling me to remove the duplicated songs; unlike in iTunes where I know the trick of showing duplicate songs, but you don't know which one is the one with 1 at the end of the file name.
Will iTunes automatically update the library without all the deleted songs, or will it indicate 'missing location' songs? Any fast ways to clear this 'missing location' songs by highlighting them all and delete all at one go?
    Thanks.

One way is to use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on start up.
Another option is with a set of Lost & Found playlists.
    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist. Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You can delete them all with a Ctrl-A to select them and Shift-Delete to remove them.
You can then delete the Lost & Found playlists.

  • ITunes automatically updates some of my songs with unwanted information

Ok, so iTunes automatically changes info back to original once I play after already changing it in "get info" for some of my artists. e.g. "California Love", by 2Pac is displayed as the artist being "2Pac, Dr. Dre & Roger Troutman". So I go into "get info" and change it to the artist as just 2Pac. However, once it gets played in iTunes it changes itself back. This is a pain in the arse because I like it to be just one artist for easy access and play-through on my iPod. I don't want to create playlists for the artists and albums that do this either because I don't like the clutter. Please help and tell me if you need my situation clarified beacause I'm not so great at explaining things. Thanks a lot.
P.S. the id3 tags are already set to "none".

You already have ID3 tags set to none, but just for kicks, select the songs, pick a different ID3 tag, hit ok, then go back in and do it again, and pick none and see if that helps.
If not, then the next obvious place to check is to make sure the permissions on your iTunes folder/files are not set to restrict you from changing the files themselves (where ID3 tag info is stored).

  • ITunes automatically updates song information?

For some reason itunes keeps updating song information and artwork when I already have information / artwork present. How do I switch this off as I find it incredibly annoying?

No its not checked. Basically album art just keeps disappearing and song information is changing itself. Its really odd. I looked through my library today and about 1 in 5 album art is gone. Any ideas?

Select the song you are having a problem with. Under the Advanced menu there is an option to "Convert ID3 tags". Select this. If the ID3 Tag Version has a version number next to it, click the pull down menu and change to "none". Now go back and try your changes and see if they stick this time.

  • Does syncing to iTunes automatically update the iPad 2?  Or is there another procedure to updating the iPad 2?

    Hi,
I very recently bought an iPad 2 for my wife.  She tried to do some online shopping and couldn't get past the checkout screen.  Poor girl tried all day and was so frustrated when I came home.  I told her to use my PC laptop and she was done in minutes.  I went to the local Apple Store and their advice was to disconnect and reconnect the iPad WIFI connection.  And to update the iPad.  I sync'd to iTunes and couldn't figure out how to search for updates.  Does syncing automatically do the updating?
    Thanks

No - to update the operating system (iOS) on the iPad connect it your computer's iTunes, and in iTunes select the Device on the left-hand side, and on the summary tab click 'Check for Updates'. The current version is 4.3.3 - you can tell which version your iPad has by looking at the Version field in Settings > General > About on the iPad (the bit in brackets is just the build number of the iOS release); the iPad's current iOS version is also shown on the summary tab mentioned above. If you do not currently have the most up-to-date version then the download is just under 600 meg, and therefore may take a while to download.

  • Disable iTunes automatic updates

      hi guys
i updated my iTunes 10.7 to 11, used it for a few hours trying out all the ''new functions'' , again i hated the white background ( already hated it when it was first introduced a couple of years ago... it just cooks my eyes after a while..) disliked the fact a few features i used regularly were removed + quite a few new ones that are irrelevant to the way i use iTunes/my music were introduced so i went back to 10.7 & it's all working good
my problem now is that although i have deselected the ''Check for new software updates automatically'' case in iTunes preferences, i keep getting notified by the App Store i have updates available & among them are iTunes 11 which i couldn't care less for...
my question is this : how can i ''tell'' the AppStore NOT to bother me with iTunes11 ? i REALLY don't want to accidentally click on ''install'' or ''update'' only to find out i have to go through the whole rigmarole of ''downdating'' back to 10.7 AGAIN or worse - get something in my library modified beyond recovery & WITHOUT my consent
since the AppStore doesn't seem to have a preference pane, any suggestions to achieve this would be VERY WELCOME
      cheers

    OK i found it :
open AppStore, click on ''Updates'' over your mouse over iTunes, right click & select ''Hide Update''

  • Get setup file of itunes from a itunes automatic update

I want the setup file of itunes latest version.
i had a low version of itunes which i later updated using the inbuilt update feature the new one was abot 96mb.
now i want to install it in another pc. so i want the setup file.
where can i find this new setup file.
or should i have to download it again ????  as a set up file??
    please help me.

See the further information area of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for direct download links for iTunes. iTunes no longer needs QuickTime so you could simply uninstall it. Otherwise this should do it: QuickTimeInstaller.exe (V7.7.5).

  • Help! iTunes automatically changes my song tags.

Hey, when I add new songs to my iTunes library, iTunes automatically updates the tags giving it its own album artist, album, track numbers, etc. I personally find this very annoying and sometimes forces my library to become very unorganized. Any help in fixing this? Any option to just turn off the auto update of song tags?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I still have this problem. I have two PCs, both of them have Vista (though different versions) and exactly the same version of iTunes. On one PC, iTunes automatically updates tags, on the other it doesn't. And right now tags are only changed when I play a song in iTunes. It drives me crazy. A few observations and speculations:
There may be a process running (outside iTunes) which checks the properties of an MP3 file played by iTunes and adds certain tags which are not present. Unlikely, but impossible?
The properties you see when you check the file info are taken from the iTunes Music Library.xml file and not from the MP3 file itself. If you look at the file properties in Windows Explorer, you can sometimes see that it can have information for ID3 tags which is not visible in iTunes. When the information is added in iTunes, it is taken from the MP3 file tags and added to the xml file, I think. This means that when you delete the tags from the MP3 file itself, using TagScanner, for instance, it is impossible for iTunes to add it to the xml file and display it in iTunes. I've been experimenting with this and it seems to work.
If the above is true, the question remains why iTunes adds or updates tag information when I have explicitly forbidden it to do that by disabling all the options mentioned here. I still have no clue. Anyone else?

  • Stopping Itunes from updating/modifying my song list.

Hi there, here's my problem: Basically I manually corrected all of my songs (over 7000 songs) of my Itunes, I manually set the correct name, artist, album and even put the illustration to each album, my problem is that everytime there is a new update for Itunes it automatically changes things like the genre or the album (mainly) and alters everything from what I had, is there an option I can click to stop the Itunes from doing this?
    Thanks

I already have everything "tuned up" everything has it's right name with the right album and even genre, my problem is that Itunes "automatically" updates the songs to whatever album they think is the correct one and changing the album that I had already selected as the correct one, the most anoying thing is that they change the genre of for example spanish sining groups/singers to "latin" music.. When there's diferent kinds of genres in spanish or in italian or in french songs, even when I had already selected the correct genre for different songs/groups...
    Any ideas?

  • Installed itunes on another computer and need to turn off automatic update

I have itunes on my desktop at home and it is set to manually update my songs on my ipod (I have more songs on my 80GB ipod video than on my desktop). I am now traveling with a laptop and just installed itunes on my laptop. itunes won't let you turn off the automatic update setting until you plug your ipod into your computer. I am afraid to plug my laptop into my computer because it will automatically update the music (wipe out all my music on my ipod). Can I somehow turn off automatic update (switch to manual) before I plug my ipod into my laptop? Also, I know there is software that allows you to move the music from the ipod to the laptop, but I don't want to move all that music to the laptop. I want to continue updating my ipod manually on my laptop. Please help. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
If you set the iPod to be manually managed on one computer, that setting will follow the iPod to any other computer you connect it to. However, even if you don't have the iPod set that way, when you connect the iPod to a foreign library, you'll receive an message in iTunes when it recognizes the iPod that the iPod is synced with another library, and you can click 'Cancel' and still get to the iPod's Summary page to put it into manual mode, without it changing any content on the iPod. If it makes you feel better, you can also click Edit and go to Preferences, click the Syncing tab, and select the option to "Disable automatic syncing for iPods & iPhones" prior to connecting your iPod.
    Hope this is helpful

  • ITunes, Remote.app v2: Does v2 still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3? (Plus v3 and iTunes issues)

Remote.app (version 2): Does it still work in iOS7 or will I be automatically updated to version 3?
That is basically the main question I've come to ask (with some side commentary in parenthesis below).
After trying out iTunes Remote App version 3, I saw that it scrambles playlists (such as Recently Purchased), which makes my playlists worthless. For example, using Remote.app, it's no longer possible to simply play the songs you bought over the last week at the iTunes Store using the Recenlhy Purchased Playlist. Since I buy a lot of music through the iTunes Store, I naturally want to listen to what I just paid for, just as I could using Remote.app version 2.
But it's not just the Recenly Purchased playlist, it's all my playlists. Through the last decade, day in and day out, I've carefully orgnized hundreds of playlists that I've very crafted, song by song like old mix tape casettes.
They payoff for this work has been enormous. Since starting with mp2 in 1995, then mp3 and continuing through to the thousands of dollars I've spent purchasing songs through the iTunes Store and tens of thousands on iPods, iPhones, iPads, and computers—I've been able to make music match whatever mood or music was juuust right for the moment, making for great moments and memories with friends and families. For some artists, I always want to hear their latest songs first or I want to to hear top rates songs first. Other lists are about creating a particular mood for just about any occasion. I can even shift the mood in the room with the right music list. It's really been fantastic the memories and moments I've been able to set the tone with the right song, and most of this has been not the song itself, but the flow of music I've created by orgnizing music lists. That's a lot of work I've invested. So the order of the songs matters a lot to me, especially the very first song that starts that list. That's the song I want to hear first, not somewhere in the middle.
As of Remote.app version 3, these carefully crafted songlists are scrambled, making the App worthless. When I first noticed this I couldn't believe it, must be a bug. Nope, no bug, by design I found out. It's like when Lucy pulls the football away. It's mean spirited to take back features you've sold and promoted and people have grown to rely on in the workflow of their lives. So I downgraded back to Remote.app version 2.
((Actually, they're not really technically scrambled, they're actually presented in alphabertical order, which I think is really the same thing to me. Think about it: listening to an artists work alphabetically by title is really the most random and completely scrambled way to listen to their music. Or if you don't want to listen to them alphabetically, you can have them shuffled. Those are now the only two choices. Either way, the lists are jumbled, and like iTunes 11, several of the most powerful features have been taken away. In this case the exact thing that's missing is that the iTunes Remote no longer reflects the sort order of iTunes playlists.
I don't know if this is a quiet, update-by-update shift away from our playlists and towards iTunes Radio or not, but I would think so. Why else would you make it less powerful. To quote Merlin Mann Apple tends to "fire a warning shot" feature wise before taking something away. The Finder has gotten less and less powerful in finding files and folders by their name and size through the last decade.
I'm now noticing the same thing with iTunes, it's becoming more difficult to find the currently playing song. In iTunes 10, Go to Current Song would open the folder containing the list of the currently playing song, highlight and move that list to the top of the left column and then highlight that song. In iTunes 11, Go to Current Song will only highlight the folder that contains that song and nothing more. At that point you're on your own to hunt town the currently playing song. This feature has been broken—on purpose I suspect.))
SO—I don't want to be forced into Remote.app version 3 and have my playlists scrambled on my iPhone and iPad. Is there anyone who knows the answer from first hand experience?
If customer loyalty is as important to Apple as it should be taking away features in iTunes and Remote app will only drive old customers away.
    Thanks!!
    David

I like that I would be able to maintain my iPhoto library data for Faces and Places in Aperture, but am concerned that when the iPhoto library is "upgraded" for Aperture, and I decide I don't really need that program, the upgraded library won't work with iPhoto anymore.
The iPhoto library isn't changed in any way by Aperture. Aperture will import the Library and you can choose to copy the files to the Aperture Library or reference them within iPhoto. As long as you don't delete files from the iPhoto Library via Aperture (which you could do if you choose to Reference) there is no impact on iPhoto
Will I still be able to use iPhoto to access and organize my library, or will it be forever converted for use with Aperture?
    They are completely different libraries.
Recently, iPhoto bugs make Events show up multiple times in iTunes when syncing for iPhone and iPad.
    Fixed in the 9.1.3 update.
Will I find a better user experience with Aperture, or does it also use the single file library and suffer the same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing lately?
Like iphoto, Aperture can use the "single file library" or it can use a Referenced Library (just like iphoto can). Note that using a Referenced Library offers not a whit more in terms of features or capabilities. It's file storage plain and simple. Nothing more.
No you won't see the "same struggles iPhoto users have been seeing..." because Aperture is an entirely different allication.
But you my see Aperture or Lightroom struggles
    Regards
    TD
