J2SE 1.4 on RedHat 7.1

Hello,
I do not know where to ask this, so I will ask it here. If you know a better place to post this, please tell me. First of all, please note that I have checked the web as fully as I could and have not found the answers I need. Here is my situation. When I try to install version 1.4.2_06 onto our RedHat 7.1 box, I get the following results:
[tonyb]> ./java -version
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
[tonyb]>
Then I get these results when I add the -Xmx option:
[tonyb]> ./java -Xmx32 -version
java version "1.4.2_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_06-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_06-b03, mixed mode)
[tonyb]>
Then I get this exception when I try ti run tomcat:
Caused by: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread
at java.lang.Thread.start(Native Method)
at org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.<init>(ThreadPo
ol.java:642)
at org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool.openThreads(ThreadPool.java:515
at org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool.start(ThreadPool.java:148)
at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.PoolTcpEndpoint.startEndpoint(PoolTcpEndpoint.
java:284)
Now, admitedly, it could be something in the tomcat code, but I have read a few things on the web that lead me to believe that maybe threads are not handled well, on RedHat 7.1. So my questions are:
1. Is there a better version of the JDK that I should download for RedHat 7.1? One that does not have the heap issue mentioned above.
2. Is there a JDK that handles threads correctly on RedHat 7.1?
3. Where else can I got to get these questions answered as looking on the web has proved fruitless and frustrating?
Thanks so much for any help or advice that you can give.
Tony

Thanks. Here is what I get when I do what you suggest:
[tonyb]> ./java -Xmx32m -version
java version "1.4.2_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_06-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_06-b03, mixed mode)
[tonyb]> ./java -Xmx64m -version
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
[tonyb]> ./java -Xmx128m -version
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
[tonyb]>
Note that it does not like 64m or 128m, but it does like 32m. Any thoughts?
Tony

Preferences dialog is not working with my installation of J2SE 1.4 on RedHat Linux 7.3. It suppose that it should not matter that it is 1.4 instead of 1.3.1?
    Any ideas?
I tried couple of other things with JDeveloper and they seem to be working.
    Thanks.

I tried couple of other things with JDeveloper and they seem to be working. For best results, JDeveloper 9i should be run with j2sdk 1.3.1_00 and
JDeveloper 9.0.2 (aka. 9i/R2) should be run with j2sdk 1.3.1_02.
Our upcoming 9.0.3 release will run best under 1.3.1_02 or 1.4.0_01, but
should run mostly problem-free in 1.3.1 or later (including 1.4.*).

  • J2SE 1.4.2 on RedHat Linux 7.3

    Hi ,
I have to install J2SE 1.4.2_04 on a RedHat Linux 7.3 system on intel hardware. Is the download available at Sun.com can be run on this machine. My concern is that is the download is for NPTL implementation only or it will run on any thread implementations.
    Thanks in advance

    I've done it, was good.

  • JRockit Installation fails on Redhat ES 4

    Hello there,
I'm trying to install JRockit 1.4.2_05 on a Redhat ES4 system. I'm aware that this is a very new distribution, based on Fedora Core 3 which I see someone else has had problems with from a previous post.
How can I tell the difference between an 8.1 SP5 and 8.1 SP4 release? I assume it's the _05 tag.
I've seen a posting suggesting disabling the prelink facility, but is there a way to do that before the product is installed.
    Many thanks, Will Hargrove

The two cases I know about where running on RHES4 should be problematic are:
    1. You have prelink enabled.
    2. You are running a 64 bit RHES4 on AMD64. There are a couple of
kernel bugs that makes JRockit crash and burn on this configuration, of
which the known and identified ones are:

Prelink is not a JRockit feature, it's a feature of the OS so it should be
    disabled before installing JRockit.
There is no 8.1SP5 release of JRockit available. 8.1SP4 and J2SE 1.4.2_05
is the same release. There is also a J2SE 5.0 release.

  • Installing j2sdk1.3 on Redhat Linux 7.0

I installed Redhat Linux 7.0 and now I'm trying to install the SDK 1.3. I downloaded the Linux version RPM shell script, but it is a .bin file and fails with unrecognized package when I issue the Linux command rpm -ivh filename. So then I downloaded the GNUZIP Tar shell script, but that gave me the same file name.(but the file lengths are different). I'm new to Linux. How do I install either of these versions?

When I tried to run some application, I received the
    following error:
    "Segmentation fault"
Is this error caused by Java Virtual Machine problem
    on Linux ?From <http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/relnotes.html>
    * For Linux users - The newer glibc-2.2.x libraries cannot correctly handle initial thread stack sizes larger than 6 MB. This can cause a segmentation fault on come Linux platforms that use the newer libraries. Such platforms include Red Hat 7.0, Mandrake 8.0, SuSe 7.2, and Debian 2.2. The problem will not occur on Linux platforms that are using glibc-2.1.x such as Red Hat 6.1 and 6.2. It will also not affect Red Hat 7.1 because it uses a different thread stack layout. This problem is being tracked as bug 4466587.
Workaround - Use "ulimit -s 2048" in bash shell or "limit stacksize 2048" in tcsh to limit the initial thread stack to 2 MB.
If you add the command to ~/.bash_profile, it should run each time you login.

  • WL Portal 4.0 SP1 & RedHat 7.1: Install Failure

    Hi.
I was trying to install WL Portal 4.0 SP1 in Redhat 7.1.
The steps I first made were:
    1. jsdk1.4 install
    2. WL Server 6.1 SP2 install in directory "/usr/bea"
In the installation script of the Portal, after choosing to use the pre-existing
BEA directory ("/usr/bea"), I got the following error:
    Weblogic Server 6.1 Not Installed
    ------------------------------------------------------------ WebLogic Server 6.1
is a prerequisite for this installation. You do not seem to have it installed
    to /usr/bea
NOTE: I has using console mode installation
    Thanks in advance,
    Renato

    Renato,
The WebLogic Portal 4.0 SP1 installer cannot figure out where
WebLogic Server 6.1 is installer. On Linux, the installer reads
the beahomelist file under the $HOME/bea directory. That means
that if you use different user to install WebLogic Server 6.1 than
the user you are using for WebLogic Portal 4.0, then it will not
find where WLS is installed. You can either use the same user
account or create the beahomelist with one line that indicates the
location (directory of your BEA_HOME) under $HOME/bea directory.
Also, I noticed that you tried with J2SE 1.4. Keep in mind that
WebLogic Portal 4.0 SP1 has not been tested and certified with
that version and that you might run into problems.
    Hope this helps,
    Michel.

  • Installing j2sdk 1.4.0 on RedHat 7.2

    Hi,
I've tried following the instructions on how to install the SDK on linux and it doesn't seem to be working. The instructions I'm following can be found at:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/install-linux.html
It seems to install correctly, but when I try to run java or javac, it gives me:
    bash: java: command not found
When I ran the rpm.bin binary file, it runs through the license agreement and then asks to install. I say yes and it inflates j2sdk-1_4_0_01-fcs-linux-i386.rpm from j2sdk-1_4_0_01-linux-i586-rpm.bin. The file it inflates isn't the same filename as mentioned in the instructions.
I then run rpm -iv j2sdk-1_4_0_01-fcs-linux-i386.rpm after changing to root and it says:
    Preparting packages for installation...
    j2sdk-1_4_0_01-fcs
If someone could help me with installing, I would be very appreciative. Also, if you could tell me how to set my CLASSPATH, that would be helpful as well. Thanks

    Hi!,
I'm trying to install j2sdk 1.4.0.01 on RedHat 7.2. When I run the bin file (installation file), after the installation instructions and licence listing, Unpacking is done and after checksumming...., I'm getting the following error message "The download file appears to be corrupted. Please refer to the troubleshooting section of the installation instructions on the download page, for more information. Please don not attemtp to install this archive file". If I check the file size that given in the site and the size of the file for installing, there is no difference in the size.
One more observation is, I had successfully installed JDK1.4.0 on RedHat 6.2 with the same download file and it is working fine. Any sugestion for this problem would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance
    Ravi.

  • Why there are no javac in  j2se of linux

After i install j2se in Redhat Linux, I can not find javac, jdb in $JAVA_HOME/bin?
    Pls help me, Thanks.

    Thanks
I have come to the directory where the jdk installed, 'java' is in the bin directory, but 'javac' is not.

  • Where to find javac RPMS for RedHat Linux7.3

I want to do programming in java on linux platform but I don't know how to start. I have Redhat Linux 7.3 installed on my computer. I have Celeron 1.2Ghz processor with intel chipset board.
I searched for RPMS of Java compiler on various sites but as I dont know the exact name of RPM to install for J2EE, I could'nt install it.
    Can you please help me?

"Javac" is a part of the J2SE SDK which you can download from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
For Linux there are two formats: RPM and .tar.gz-packed binary. Remember to follow the installation instructions (there's a link to them on the page I mentioned above).

  • How to uninstall j2se from RH7.2

i have installed the j2sdk-1_4_2-beta-linux-i586.rpm on my RH7.2 server. But it's higher than my applications need, so I must uninstall it, but when I use the command "rm -e j2sdk-1_4_2-beta-linux-i586.rpm", feedback error is "error: package j2sdk-1_4_2-beta-linux-i586.rpm is not installed", how could i uninstall it?

Type "rpm -e j2sdk" and it removes all package contents for sure. I did this today and it workes well. To know more, to play with it before uninstall, try this also:
    rpm -q -all j2sdk
    rpm -e --test -vv j2sdk
But I am struck up at a different phase. After removing this old J2SE, I want to install the complete Beta2 J2EE bundle. I unzipped bytes of j2eesdk-1_4-beta2-linux-eval.zip into a directory called j2ee_sdk_lin on my RedHat 8.0 Linux platform. But the setup in that path, aborts with segmentation violation. I tried running with -console invain. Has anyone got any clue?

  • HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
    generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
    Workstation" configuration.
    The Oralce CD is labeled:
    "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    Release 8.1.5
    for Linux
    (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
    1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    umask 022
    setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    xhost +
    setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
    setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : Bad address
Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    ./runIns.sh
    3. runIns.sh and root.sh
I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0
    Typical (585MB)
Installable Components: Oralce Intelligent Agent 8.1.5.0.0
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
    Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    (from the
    "root" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    ./root.sh
    Problem: I got the error:
    "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x root.sh
    ./root.sh
    5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
    the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
    of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
    The log file
    "/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:
"Command which is being spawned is /usr/local/jre/bin/jre

Workaround: There is obviously nothing I can do to fix this
problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.
    6. dbassist
    I executed:
    dbassist
Problem: I got the following error:
    "JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
    check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
    7. dbassist (cont.)
    I selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
    Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
    8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and iM demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest2.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest2
    Create database now
Problem: I got the following error:
    "ORA-01012: not logged on"
    Workaround: Try, try again.
    9. dbassist, one last time
Executed "dbassist" once more and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and interMedia
    demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest3.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest3
    Output creation script
Then, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/install
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest3
    ./sqlcprtest3.sh
Problem: I got the following output:

    Workaround: Beats me.
    10. sqlplus
I attempted to execute sqlplus, but got the following error
    message:
    "/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus: Permission denied."
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus
    sqlplus
I gave up for now... there were just too many things wrong with
this installation, starting with the very first command I was
    supposed to execute (./runInstaller).
I can't fathom why Oracle's installation script has so many bugs.
Am I just doing something terribly wrong?
    Please help.

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
    this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
    disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

: : Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be
    very
: : buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
: : RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
: : I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts
    : below.
: : Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
    : : I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB
    : RAM,
: : a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
: : 2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard
    : "Gnome
    : : Workstation" configuration.
: : The Oralce CD is labeled:
    : : "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    : : Release 8.1.5
    : : for Linux
    : : (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
: : I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in
    Los
: : Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so
    : far.
    : : 1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
: : I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
: : primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
    : : I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
: : I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    : : umask 022
    : : setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    : : xhost +
    : : setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    : : setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5

    : : setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    : : setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    : : setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    : : I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
: : Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    : : cd /mnt/cdrom
    : : ./runInstall
    : : Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
: : Initializing Java Virtual Machine from
    : /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    : : Please wait...
    : : Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : : : Bad address
: : Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    : : cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    : : ./runIns.sh
    : : 3. runIns.sh and root.sh
    : : I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    : : Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    : : Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5

    : : Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com

: : Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    : : (from the
    : : "root" Unix account):
    : : cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    : : ./root.sh
    : : Problem: I got the error:
    : : "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
: : The execute bit was not set.
    : : Workaround: I executed:
    : : chmod a+x root.sh
    : : ./root.sh
    : : 5. Configuration Tools
: : The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    : : A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    : : B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
: : Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed

  • Filename in J2SE Adapter with Variable Substitution

    Hello,
Within the J2EE receiver fileadapter (and ftp) from SP13 it is possible to compose the target filename and directory based on the payload of a message using variable substitution.
I wonder if it is also possible to use variable substitution with the J2SE fileadapter. For this it is not documented but i thougth that the same java libraries are used for the J2EE an J2SE file-adapters.
    Aybody??
    Really Nobody??
Message was edited by: Emile Hermans

    Hello,
the J2SE Adapter does not support variable subsition. Therefore we created our own class which gets called from the main SAP XI class "XMB2FileProcessor.class" wich is in the jar "aii_msg_adapter.jar". In your own class you can do what ever you need to chane the file name. In the configuration you can set your own parameter to search the payload for a string you want to replace. We also had to come up with our own timestamp, e.g. file2005-11-10 which SAP does not let you do, only the full timestamp is possible.
One other nice thing is that you can develop our JAVA class local and test it with your local J2SE Adapter Engine on you PC before you deploy it.
    Steps to do:
    1. JAD the SAP class
    2. Put a call in the SAP class
    3. Compile the class
    4. Put the class back in the archive
    5. Create your own class
    6. Create a jar file for it
    7. Put the jar file in the tech_adapter directory
    8. Change the run_adapter start cmd to include your jar file
It works great, the only issue is if you patch the J2SE engine you have to do step 1 to 4 again but that should it very easy to do.
    Cheers
    Stefan

  • Install Solution Manager in RedHat Enterprise 6 with Oracle 11

    Hello ,
In the marketplace-PAM,  RedHat Enterprise 6 is not listed as approved for EHP1 Solution Manager 7.0 64 bit (unicode) with Oracle.
Does anyone have any information on this subject?
Has anyone installed the Solution Manager 7.0/Oracle with RedHat Enterprise 6?
    tks

Yes, you are correct. Apart from PAM, following Note confirms this. RHEL 6 is not supported yet for Oracle, is in planning stage.
