J2SE 5.0 Support

Does anybody has information when we can expect JDeveloper to support new J2SE 5.0 APIs

You can kind-a sort-a use 9.0.5 with J2SE 5.0, but certain features won't work very well with it (in particular, the code editor, structure pane etc. don't understand the syntax of the new language features).
The upcoming 10.1.3 release will have J2SE 5.0 support (I've even tried it with early builds of Java 6.0, and it sort-of-works).

    Hi;
    Is there an official (or not so official) release date for the next JVM that will hopefully support J2SE 1.42?
    Thanks;

    Ok. I appreciate that. I was hoping that somehow an upgrade of the JVM will not require the next Database release. As a matter of fact this in itself should be a feature of the next database release! ie. Decouple the JVM upgrade portion from the rest of the database.

  • HTTP/S POST from J2SE adapter engine (NO SOAP)

    Hi there,
    We have a scenario at work where we have XI sending messages to the "lightweight" J2SE adapter engine in the DMZ....and from there the message is sent out to an HTTPS site that is obvioulsy outside of our network.
    Currently I can see that the J2SE adapter engine support SOAP over HTTP/S......but how can I do a normal POST of the message NOT using SOAP to an external HTTP/S address?
    I do not see any straight HTTP adapter in the J2SE adapter engine. I have a small java file that can connect and POST the message to the external website.
    My question is how can I use this code easily in the J2SE adapter engine? I just want a simple HTTP
    POST ...no SOAP.....
    Is there some sort of EXIT or dispatcher that I can hook onto?
    Any help or push in the right direction will be greatly appreciated

    Hi there,
    You can see in the config file below that we did put it into the adapter config. It does not complain about the parameter BUT it still has the SOAP envelope / headers in the result message. Any ideas how we can get around this?

  • Solaris 8 on Sparc and X86

    Will I experience any problems connecting a Trusted Solaris 8 X86 systems to a SPARC Trusted 8 system? Will all the trusted features work between the two.
    Thx

    I am using Java 5.0 to develop applets, but if I use
    all the possibilities that 5.0 version offers (such
    as enum) that means that clients viewing my applet
    must have JRE 5.0 as well. Does that mean a very
    recent browser will be required?no.
    I found which browsers support Java 5.0 on the page
    J2SE 5.0 "Supported System Configurations" at
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/system-configurations.h
    tml
    In short, what I take from there is that browsers
    required would be:
    - Mozilla 1.4+
    - Internet Explorer 5.5 (SP2+), 6.x on Windows
    platforms
    - Netscape 4.7.x on Solaris 8 on SPARC and x86
    - Netscape 7 and 7.1 are not offically supported, but
    should work
    I have no idea how recent these versions are and
    whether it is acceptable to assume that web visitors
    will have these versions. I'd think it is almost safe to assume people have those, they're not that young. the question is rather "do they have the JRE 1.5.0?"

  • Java Update 5 (1.0) breaks Java for Volano based chats

    I installed the Java Update 5 (1.0) for Leopard on my Intel based Mac mini and then was unable to enter Volano (Java applet) based chat rooms. I was forced to reinstall my system to revert to my prior version of System 10.5.8 in oder to be able to continue use the Java based Volano chats. The update that will NOT work states: "This release updates Java SE 6 to to version 1.6.0_1.5, J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_20, and J2SE 1.4.2 to 1.4.2_22."
    According to Volano developers -
    Note that Apple calls Java 5 (version 1.5) "J2SE 5.0", while it calls Java 6 (version 1.6) "Java SE 6". I think I finally have the following chart correct:
    J2SE 5.0 = Java 5 (version 1.5)
    - Available as 32-bit and 64-bit packages in Leopard
    - Removed in Snow Leopard
    Java SE 6 = Java 6 (version 1.6)
    - Available only as 64-bit packages in Leopard
    - Available as 32-bit & 64-bit packages in Snow Leopard
    In Leopard, the 32-bit Safari can run Java applets only with the 32-bit
    J2SE 5.0 support. To run applets using Java SE 6, you need to bypass
    Safari using the "appletviewer" Terminal command in Leopard, or upgrade
    to Snow Leopard where Safari can run Java SE 6.
    Volano says the possible work arounds for Leopard users (10.5.8( are:
    According to what I've read, if you have a 64-bit capable Intel processor (i.e., an Intel Core 2 Duo), the software update that you removed should have given you 64-bit Java SE 6 even on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5). Java SE 6 works fine with the VOLANO applets, but unfortunately the Safari browser that runs the applets is only 32-bit on Leopard, so applets in Safari still run with the 32-bit Java SE 5 instead of the 64-bit Java SE 6.
    So you have three options to solve the problem -- two free options (one rather easy, one more difficult), and one easy non-free option.
    (1) The Free and Relatively Easy Option
    If you have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (not a Core Solo or Core Duo), you can install all the software updates from Apple so that you'll have the 64-bit Java SE 6.
    About Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2733 "Java SE 6 is available on 64-bit, Intel-based Macs only."
    You would then modify your Java Preferences so that Java SE 6 is chosen first for the Java Application Runtime settings. You can verify the modified setting by running the following "java -version" command from the Terminal application (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal):
    $ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_20"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02-279-10M3065)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.3-b01-279, mixed mode)
    There are some more detailed instructions here:
    Install Java 6 on Mac OS X Leopard
    http://gephi.org/users/install-java-6-mac-os-x-leopard/
    Then you can bypass Safari and run the applet directly in the 64-bit Java SE 6 using the "appletviewer" command in Terminal. For example:
    $ appletviewer http://www.actionchat.com/chat/english.shtml
    You just put the URL of the page containing the VOLANO chat applet you want to load. I just tried it on my system, and it works fine. You bypass Java SE 5, which is broken for the VOLANO applets, and you bypass Safari, which cannot run the 64-bit Java SE 6. Instead, you run the VOLANO applet using your Java SE 6 directly!
    (2) The Free and Not-So-Easy Option
    You can download and install SoyLatte as an alternative to the Apple Java VM for your Mac OS X Leopard system.
    SoyLatte: Java 6 Port for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 (Intel)
    http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte/
    I have not tried SoyLatte on my iMac, though.
    (3) The Best but Non-Free Option
    For only $29, you can upgrade your system to the latest Snow Leopard and get both the 32-bit and 64-bit Java SE 6 along with a Safari Web browser that works with Java SE 6 for running applets!
    Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MACOS_XSNGL
    I hope this information is of help to any Leopard users having trouble with the latest Java update.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
    Please bear in mind that this issue, presumably introduced by Apple's own update, affects not only the command line java interpreter but any other app that depends on Java (including some GUI apps). So it perhaps fits the larger scope of Leopard instead of the Unix area.

  • 64 bit Java 1.5 on  Windows Server 2003 64bit?

    I have search the Sun website, Google etc but I am unable to find a definitive statement as to whether Java 1.5.0 has support for 64 bit processing when run on on Windows Server 2003 64bit?
    There appears to be separate 64 bit versions available for down load on the Solaris platform but not on Windows Server 2003 64bit. Is there for a reason for this?
    If some one could clarify the situation it would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards Mike Kimber

    Actually I didn't and it?s the reason I asked the initial question. I found the table unclear. However the following footnote does suggest that 64 bit processing is supported natively on Windows Server 2003:
    3. Support for AMD64/EM64T 64-bit mode Windows introduced in J2SE 5.0 Update 2.
    Prior to Update 2, J2SE 5.0 supports AMD Opteron (64) Windows in this configuration.
    Whilst not categorically stating it, this would suggest that as of Java 5 Update 2, java supports 64 bit processing on 64 bit Intel chips?

    Oracle is speaking about 9.0.5, OTN is speaking about 9.0.5 but nobody tells us when 9.0.4 will be out.

    Please give us a definitive answer.

    Steven,
    I think all regular users of the JDev forum appreciate yours and JDevs teams engagement in this forum very much. So keep up the good work and continue!
    However, as a professional user of 9iAS EE, OC4J and JDeveloper it is very frustrating that Oracle writes papers on states of direction of the various products and annouces a lot of marketing hype, but the actual progress and releases of the products are far behind your promises AND Oracle's competitors i.e IBM, BEA, SAP and in the horizon various Microsoft products.
    On developer.java.sun.com I read this good message to day:
    "By the end of 2003, Java developers will be able to get their hands on a beta version of Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition 1.5 (J2SE 1.5)."
    All Java developers look forward to J2SE 1.5, but with J2SE 1.4 Oracle has been very slow to incorporate it in your products. In fact 9IAS, OC4J, OJVM and Jdev it self do not run on J2SE 1.4 yet despite that J2SE 1.4 has been out for more that a year by now.
    So my questions are:
    1) Will Oracle continue to be that slow on releases/bugfixes to your Java tools?
    2) Shall we also wait an other year or more on J2Se 1.5 support in Oracles Java tools?
    Please, take these questions are serious concerns and not just plain critisme.

  • Signing JAR file with DSA algorithm

    Hi everybody,
    I need to sign my JAR file with DSA algorithm.
    Can anybody explain how to generate certificate for this and how to sign using DSA algorithm.
    Thanks.

    Well J2SE 1.x supports ZipOutputStream (jar's are zips with a META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file) and www.bouncycastle.org has API's for signing etc.
    So in theory you could take a directory or an existing jar and make a jar and sign it.
    The only question is the format on how to sign them properly. I wouldn't be suprised if someone already wrote an API for this format. For example BouncyCastle supports S/MIME and PGP, but I don't know what is the format for jars.

  • PKCS#11 support in J2SE 1.4

    Hello All,
    First of all I am quite new to Java PKCS#11 support (only couple hours into it :) ). I found out that J2SE 1.5 has the sun PKCS#11 provider pre-configured into it. However, I want to use the PKCS#11 provider with J2SE 1.4 as well, but I am unable to get a hold of the sun implementation for it, as well as the driver DLL.
    So my question is this:-
    Is PKCS#11 provider even available for J2SE 1.4? and if yes, where can I download it?.
    Thanks a TON in advance :)

    Forgive me, this is bound to have a simple answer, but I took all Saturday to do this and I'm no further forward.
    OK, I got a servlet.jar from another installation and copied that into my j2se lib and bin directories (I didn't know which one). That didn't work.
    So I thought maybe the file I used was somehow tied to the OS that machine was using rather than mine, so I downloaded Tomcat and used that servlet.jar in the same way. No joy. So I set the classpath to the Tomcat directory. No joy there either.
    So then I downloaded j2ee, but that looks like an awfully complex sledgehammer to crack this particular nut.
    WTF is going wrong?
    Here's the gubbins:
    This is in my autoexec.bat (W95)
    SET Java=d:\progra~1\jdk14~1.1\bin
    SET tomcat=d:\progra~1\apache~1\tomcat~1.1\common\lib
    SET tomcatB=d:\programfiles\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1\common\lib
    SET j2ee=s:\progra~1\j2sdke~1.4\
    SET CLASSPATH=%Java%;%tomcat%;%tomcatB%;.;
    Here's my code:
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class ServletTester extends HttpServlet
         protected void doGet (HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws ServletException, IOException
              res.setContentType("text/html");
              PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
              out.println("<html><head><title>Hello world</title></head><body><p>Hello world</p></body></html>");
              out.close();
         } // end of doGet
    } // end of ServletTester
    Here are the first errors (out of nine):
    D:\temp\ServletTester.java:6: package javax.servlet does not exist
    import javax.servlet.*;
    ^
    D:\temp\ServletTester.java:7: package javax.servlet.http does not exist
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    Any clues would be gratefully received. How can I check my classpath command is working for a start?
    Cheers

  • Is the JMS adapter on the J2se supported for productive use?

    Hello ,
    I am in a big confusion whether to go with simple J2SE AE for my JMS scenario or to install the J2EE AE.
    Is there any consequences or problems or difference in using the JMS scenario in J2SE AE and J2EE AE?

    Can you please comment on this?

    Yes. You may implement JSR-82 and a communication for your dongle such as USB or Serial Port. But it already exists too. You can research for ATINAV, ROCOCCO, and others. A nice example of this is in www.benhui.net ; BlueCove example.
