  • How to use packages and jar files for applet?

    Hi!
    My applet takes a class say a.class.
    Now this class depends on other classes that are packaged
    in a directory and put separately.
    I want to put this applet on the web.
    So how do I manage the .class files in he package.
    I have tried using jar file format.But I was not able to get it working.
    Can someone please help me?
    Thanks

    Use Archive instead of codebase:
    <APPLET CODE="MyApplet.class" ARCHIVE="MyApplet.jar" WIDTH=400 HEIGHT=300></APPLET>

  • Getting JAR file for Applet doesn't work

    Hi,
    We have the following problem: we have some clients who want to use our applet. There are some clients that have problems with receiving the .jar file:
    When the applet tries to start we get a ClassNotFoundException: 'prestaties.class' not found. (the client wants to acces the class file directly from the server)
    If we check the .jar file, it exists on the client, but the file is empty.
    What could be the problem?
    - PRoxy or firewall blocks the jar file
    - applet doesn't have enough rights to write.
    Does anyone a solution, some workarounds or suggestions for this problem.
    Thanks!
    Luk

    Hi,
    Thanks for answering my question!
    Here is the extra information you asked.
    At server side everything is OK (the jar file is present and has all the class files).

  • Use classes from a jar archive from in a jar archive

    Hi, I am making a program and I need some the classes in a certain jar archive for tehm to work. Well my program workes before I add it to a jar be when I make it into one and put the needed jar in it, the program breaks. So does anyone know how to access the class of the jar in my jar?

    Well my program workes before I add it to a jar be when I make it into one and put the needed jar in it, the program breaksIt might be easier not to nest the jar files. Instead make the "needed" jar part of the class path when you make your jar file's manifest.

    I don't see applets mentioned in the supported features nor in the unsupported features so not sure if they are supported you would likely need to contact the operations team to confirm.

  • How to use database file within jar archive

    Hi. I'm quite new in Java programming, and I'm wondering if what I did makes sense or not.
    In my applet I'm using a MS Access Database file, which is contained in the same Jar Archive like the Applet class file. I tried and tried to use this Database file directly but it wouldn't work. Than I read in some other forum that it is not possible to use the database file directly within the archive. First question: Is that true?
    Than I desided to extract the DB file in the init() method of my applet to the default temporary foulder. When the program is closed I use the destroy() method to delete it again. Everything works well now. But is this the typical way this is done?
    Thanks for help!

    Hi,
    here is the code which extracts the database file out of the jar archive (the same archive in which the class file is):
    //get the user temporary folder
    File TempFolder = new File(System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir"));
    //create (empty) db file
    efile = new File(TempFolder, "steelSections.mdb");
    // if database file is not yet extracted
    if (!efile.exists()) {
    //get an input stream for the database file
    InputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(
    "FaST/db/steelSections.mdb"));
    //create an output stream for the db file on the file system
    OutputStream out = new BufferedOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(efile));
    //-Buffer to copy the data
    byte[] buffer = new byte[2048]; //buffer to copy the binary
    for (;;) {
    int nBytes = in.read(buffer); //read data
    if (nBytes <= 0)
    break; //no more data to read
    out.write(buffer, 0, nBytes); //write data
    out.flush(); //close out and in streams
    out.close();
    in.close();
    If you have the db file in an other jar archive file you need a referenze to the entry in the other jar archive. I'm not sure how to get this, but I'm sure you fill find a solution by searching in this forum...
    Good luck!

  • Accessing a File within a zip, which was archived using Applet Tag

    Hi,
    Could Any one please tell me, How to Access a File from within an Applet. The File resides inside a zip which was Archived using <Applet> Tag.
    Actually, I want to write an application which runs both online and offline. So I have chosen Applet and All the files Which I need are zipped and is Archived through <Applet ARCHIVE="example.zip">.
    Now I want to access those XML files which are inside example.zip from my Applet.
    How can I do that?
    I think I will get security Exception.
    How to get rid of this security Exception.
    Kindly Answer soon.......
    It's very urgent.
    Thanking you,

    Did you already try signing a jarfile? If no ->>
    You can call a class inside a jar-file within the applet.
    if this class should be able to acces files the jarfile
    first has to be signed. to do this, you must generate a key.
    the complete work:
    1. write your applet
    2. write a html-page with following code:
    <APPLET code="guestbook.class" archive="guestbook.jar" width=600 height=400></APPLET>
    3. make a zip-file with the guestbook.class, guestbook.form, guestbook$1.class, guestbook$... and rename it to guestbook.jar
    4. in the console type:
    keytool -genkey -alias YOURNAME
    5. sign the key to your jarfile with:
    jarsigner guestbook.jar YOURNAME
    6. try the applet. a warning should appear which you have to answer
    with YES then it should work
    my trouble is that i cant acces files anyway because right now i dont
    alreadv have the clue to get the right (absolute?) path for the file. means i get an ioexception because the applet cant find the file :-((
    does anyone know how to solve this problem then? my code is:
    FileReader Stream = new FileReader("/members/Ui97u8g4f6b89mj90kh5gbr4ecf6KXC4/guestbook.txt");

  • Problems with JApplet, jar-Archive, packages and IE5

    Hello!
    I have a problem with a JApplet and Internet Explorer 5. I made a jar archive of my classes. The classes are
    members of a package. The jar archive also contains images.
    The structure of the archive:
    com/mycomp/myapp/DemoApplication.class
    com/mycomp/myapp/DemoApplet.class
    <more classes>
    com/mycomp/myapp/images/hp_logo.gif
    com/mycomp/myapp/images/test.gif
    <more images>
    The archive is stored locally in a directory which contains also the html file.
    I used the sdk 1.3.1 to compile the classes.
    My problem: when I start the html file on NT with IE5, I get the error message below:
    I try to create a label containing an icon with:
    topLabel.setIcon(new javax.swing.ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("images"+fs+"hp_logo.gif")));It works on Sun with Netscape 4.67 and SDK 1.3.1 installed.
    Should I move the images directory inside the jar archive to another place or is the html code not correct?

  • PlugIn and Swingall for applets not enough

    I've seen a lot of messages for applets that won't work with the sun plugin. I have the plugin installed; I have also added swingall.jar to my applet directory and set the ARCHIVE value to it, and can see it being processed. I still get 'class not found' with the following example. A clear answer to how to solve this would be helpful to a lot of people. (And yes, I've run the HTML converter.)
    Jbuilder 4.0 automatically adds action listeners for buttons, the browser cannot find the class for this:
    jButton2.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
    This line is listed with java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in the java plugin console.
    The code runs fine in the applet viewer.
    What else has to be included for this applet to run with the plugin?

    hello; i just erased the post i started with, because my status has changed. i searched in the firefox folder and found the uninstall folder, and this time, uninstall worked perfectly, and it gave me an option to save my personal info! YAY! i installed ff 3.6.24 without a hitch; FF is Baaaaaack!
    However, I did get a window saying my computer doesn't have enough resources for the latest version of 8, but that I should install the latest compatible version of firefox; which version would that be, I wonder? It takes me to the same page with the ff 3.6.24 downloads. I already have that now.
    I am going to mark this as solved; thank you cor-el for helping me with this problem and sticking with me as i whined and moaned, and tried to get the courage to "just do it!"

  • JAR files and Applets

    I'm completely new to the whole .jar thing so i was wondering, after i package an applet and its respected classes within a .jar archive. what information should be in the manifest file?
    lets say the applet is called, AppletText.class , and it makes use of the classTest.class class.
    im using netbeans and i made it generate manfest file automaticaly. this is what it gives.
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Created-By: NetBeans IDE
    Specified-By: TestJar.jarContent
    when i click to execute the jar, i get an error message
    Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from
    C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxx\AppletJartest.jar
    x's are used to censor filenames
    so how do i make it execute the way i want? (execute the applet and allow use of the class)

    Just for reference may be. Sorry if it does not met your need..:
    How to jar a packaged java class? (I write this so I don't forget to create jar file again :-( ..)
    Consider the package is under the folder c:\classes and you have folder ml where you write several packages such as
    - package ml.gui (c:\classes\ml\gui)
    - package ml.algorithm (c:\classes\ml\algorithm)
    - package ml.utils (c:\classes\ml\util)
    - etc..
    - and a main class, lets say "tool" as package under ml\gui (package ml.gui.tool)
    so the folder c:\classes actually contains folder ml and ml has another folders.
    Step to create packaged class jar:
    Step1: Create a "Manifest.mf" file at least contains the following text:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: ml.gui.tool
    Created-By: XXXXXX
    Note:
    * tool is the main class that will be executed
    * the purpose of manifest can be found anywhere
    in internet
    Step2: Open MSDOS to c:\classes
    Step3:
    Execute the following command:
    jar -cvfm <jarfiletobecreated.jar> Manifest.mf <packaged class>
    In my case, the command is:
    jar -cvfm ml.jar Manifest.mf ml/*
    The above steps should create a jar file ml.jar and can be executed with command java -jar ml.jar or write batch file that contains the command.
    Correct if i'm wrong.

  • Jar files and applet

    My applet class is using other classes in my package,
    So do i need to create a jar file and specify that jar file in <applet archieve = :myjar.jar"
    I did created the jar file , but its not loading up, the browser just says Loading java applet, what might be the reason, does it depends on size of jar file?
    or my tags are wrong.
    my applet tag is
    <html>
    <applet archive = "myjar.jar"
    code = "front.class"
    width.. >
    the front.class file is also in myjar.jar.
    Any help....
    Also one more question,
    Can i call other applets within one applet class.
    I have a gui, when a particular button is clicked on applet
    i want to go to other applet, so how should i call it in that buttons action listner?
    And in my applet class i am using one other class from my package which actually coonects to databse through JDBC. now say i have a button on my applet whihc says "Connect", and when that button is clicked then I created object of my other class which makes connection
    through databse. So will this work from applet?
    Thanks

    You didn't show all of your applet tag, but it should look like this:
    <HTML>
    <APPLET CODE = front.class, ARCHIVE = myjar.jar, width = ???, height = ???>
    </APPLET>
    </HTML>
    Assuming your applet is not crashing, this should load it. I recommend using the appletviewer tool in the JDK, it provides more detailed error messages. I hope this works for you.
    Now inter-applet communication. This is forbidden, sorry. However, if you really want to get fancy; remember that all applets can communicate back to the host from which they came. So if you want to build a small server on your host machine which all your applets log into, they can then communicate with each other through the server.

  • Jar file in applet not saved in internet files when using jdk plugin

    Hello,
    I recently upgarded to jdk1.3.1 and converted our applet and classes to jdk1.3.1 using swing classes. From there, we converted the html file with htmlconverter and diployed this on the web. When a user goes to the web, the system automatically downloads the java plugins and installs them on the clients maching. From there our jar file loads and executes. Our applet runs fine. However, every time our website is accessed, our jar file cookie must be downloaded which is just over 1meg and I know this is not going to fly with our clients.
    What needs to be done so the jar file is not downloaded every time, to work like java version 1.x ?
    Thanks for your help in advance with this one.
    Jay Ford

    Hi Jay Ford,
    Enable the "Recycle Classloader" in Control Panel-->Java Plug-in1.3.1-->Basic.
    The main purpose of this Recycle classloader is it will enable the "javaplugin.classloader.cache.enabled" property to true and it caches the jar files for performance enchancement.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Load a file stored in a Jar Archive

    Dear all,
    I have a text file stored in a Jar Archive and I want to obtain a File instance of the text file from the jar file. The reason for this is because I have a method which read in a File instance of the file.
    From my understanding, one can obtain an byte[] array from a file stored in a text file. Is there a way to convert the byte[] into a File instance?
    Thanks.
    Sunny

    Once again, thank you for your prompt response. I agree that one can obtain an inputstream of a file from the Jar archive and work with it. The problem that I am having is that the method that I have is not written by me, to be precise, I am using Syslog and try to read in a configuration file packed in a Jar Archive. The Syslog library only provide a method, which only accept a 'File' instance as an input argument.
    Thanks.

    <b>5. Where can I find aii_map_api.jar to create my Java mapping?</b>
    After you have created your java mapping class, export your project to a .jar file and import this .jar into Imported Archives (under Mapping node) in Integration Repository.
