JAR file isn't found using java -cp

Hi all!
This works:
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF:
Manifest-Version: 1.0
Class-Path: TSA.JAR
Main-Class: p.Start
-which makes my jar file executable (as expected)
I need to be able to make changes in the classpath though, so I can change TSA.JAR to e.g. TSA2.JAR, TSA3.JAR etc. This should be obtainable by using the java -cp option, but this doesn't seem to work:
First, I delete the Class-Path line in the MANIFEST.MF file. Then I invoke java -cp TSA.JAR -jar MyProg.Startjava sais it cannot find some file contained in the TSA.JAR file.
What's happening? Why aren't the resources in the TSA.JAR file located? Does java expect to find Class-Path in the MANIFEST.MF file, and since it's not located it expects no classpath is set (even though specified by the -cp option) ??

Ok, I found this:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4356783
-which states that when using the -jar option, all other classpaths are ignored. Just as all the authors of the numerous replies, I agree that this behaviour is too restrictive. The thread is worth browsing if you got 5 minutes to spare.
I solved my problem by not using the -jar option, but just to specify all involving resources by use of -cp option:
java -cp TSA.JAR;MyJar.JAR MyProg.Start

    define "launch".
    - You want to run a new java program in a separate process? (see Runtime.exec())
    - You want to run a method in a specific class in the jar? (add jar to application classpath and then simply instantiate the class and call the method)

  • WUT-123: The webutil.jar file cannot be found...

    Hello,
    I am having a problem using webutil to upload to a 9iAS using a mapped network drive. Here's the set up:
    MachineA
    9iAS
    Windows2000
    I simply mapped the drive (X:) to a folder on MachineA's
    local drive (d:\folder). I can upload files fine to the directory on the local drive (d:\folder). But if I try to upload to the mapped x:\, I get the error (from the webutil.log):
    "WUT-123: The webutil.jar file cannot be found on the Appliciation Server Classpath - Some file transfer functions will not work. x:\attach\VISIBLE-149.TXT java.io.FileNotFoundException: x:\attach\VISIBLE-149.TXT (The system cannot find the path specified)"
    I have no problems with uploading files if I upload to MachineA's local drive (d:\folder).
    When I was initially testing this out on 9iDS, this was working. Here's the set up:
    MachineB
    9iDS
    WindowsNT
    The 9iDS was on a different machine running WindowsNT and I had mapped X: to the same folder on MachineA. I could upload to the mapped drive without any problems.
    In both cases, I used the same client machine to test out uploading files.
    Any suggestions?
    Sandy

    I think that the opmn process starts with the credentials of the user who installed it (Local System) and not the credentials of the current user which launches it.
    I remember that when I tried to switch the user of the opmn service(from local system to a network user which is also a local admin) in the Windows services control panel,the OHS hasn't started at all.
    If you try to launch it from a DOS cmd window,then,you may try to map the hard drive in the dos command prompt,the service should know the drive name from this local context.
    If it works,can you ,please, post here,so we can all know the way?
    Thanks,

    i have a folder in which I have many .jar files which contain classes to be called. the full path of this folder is set in the Classpath inside the enviroment variables.
    so does anyone have any idea how can i import these .jar files so i can use the classes?
    thank you.

    Hi,
    My problem is that: I created a Serializable class in a project. And I added this project (first project) to another project (second project). First project is appearing in the second project' s Libraries folder. No problem. I want to create a jar file from second project. i.e. I want to Build second project (I use NetBeans IDE). I am using Build Main Project tab under Run. It is falling out. I am finding it second project' s jar file under its folder. I am clicking on it. But it is NOT WORKING. Do you know WHY. Could you help me please?

  • Java class uses another class in a Jar file (How do I make Java see it)?

    I am trying to figure out how do I make Javac see the thinlet.class in the thinlet.jar.

    //package thinlet.demo;

    { public UI () throws Exception {add(parse("UI.xml"));}
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception

    when I do the normal compile, I get an error:

    This thinlet class should be in the thinlet.jar that I have added the directory to the path, the directory and jarfile name to the System CLASSPATH and it couldn't see it. So finally I tried putting the thinlet.jar in the same directory to no avail. I've searched the web for some time an cannot find anything that specifically speaks to compiling a program that has parent classes in a Jar.
    Any help is definitely appreciated.

    Any help is definitely appreciated.You just still haven't provided the jar in the classpath, or you're not using the right class name. Is the class really named thinlet.Thinlet? Or are you thinking "import thinlet.*" means to import all classes in a jar named thinlet.jar? Because the latter is not true. You need to import classes, not jar file names.

  • Add jar file to forms application standard java library

    Overall Problem
    I created a jar file using JDeveloper to be loaded as a bean in forms builder. But the jar file ended up being really large because I had to add some standard libraries that JDeveloper knew about but Forms didn't to this jar file, it takes forever to load in my forms application.
    Background
    Jdeveloper has a drop down list of standard libraries that aren't commonly used that a developer can have included/referenced into their java project.
    Oracle Forms Library
    One of the standard libraries in JDeveloper that can be referenced when compiling a project is the Oracle Forms library. I have to reference this library in my compilation of my java project in JDeveloper because some of the java code in this project requires the Oracle Forms library. When the jar file is created in JDeveloper the Oracle Forms Library isn't actuaally physically located anywhere in the jar file that is produced for deployment. But the jar file runs perfectly in my forms application. Forms builder and the forms application server seems to already know about the Oracle Forms library.
    Java Media Framework Library
    There is another standard library listed in JDevelopers drop down list that I recently chose to use in my Java Application, the Java Media Framework library. But my forms application couldn't find any of the Java Media Framework classes when it launched the jar file that was deployed from JDeveloper. Obviously the classes wern't physically located in the jar file I created, because I figured that the forms application server/forms builder would already know about about this standard library that JDeveloper knew about.
    Not very effective Solution
    So I physically put/included the whole Java Media Framework Library into my jar file and then my form launched fine. But it now takes forever to load. How can I add the Java Media Frame work library jar files as one of the standard libraries that the forms builder and application server already sees (Like the Oracle Forms Library) without having to put the library in the forms/java folder and wait for the this jar file to download to the user's cache?
    Side note: The Java Media Framework Library is allowing the ability to launch video from my form. Very useful tool!!! So it would be good if forms had this already added as a standard library like it is in JDeveloper. But I only see the ability to reference this library in DS 10gR2 for JDeveloper.
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    Yes I have successfully been able to run a javabean application that uses the Java Media Framework methods within a forms module. The video seems to play and interact normally in the forms environment (launched from a DS or the AS).
    Basic Requirements
    Develop the java application functionality look and feel, including adding funtionality calls to the JMF library where needed.
    Develop an Oracle Forms Interface wrapper that will be the initial class called from the bean area, to hande any communication between the bean and the form.
    Configure the deployment of the jar to physically include all the needed classes from the JMF library.
    Sign the jar file and make sure it is placed in the forms/java folder and referenced in the appropriate forms configuration files.
    Depending on the type of video that the will be played certain .dll files might need to be added to the users system folder. Using H264 (.mov) should work fine without any extra .dlls.
    Thanks,
    Michelle

  • How to create a jar file as a library in java?

    Let me put it simple: rb.java is already put under /home/jiane/rb/rb.java;
    the tar file rb.tar being located under /mylib/rbcore/, the test client is put under /home/jiane/test.java. now rb.java looks like
    //// rb.java
    import java.until.*;
    public class rb {
    %>jar cvf /mylib/rbcore/rb.jar /home/jiane/rb.class
    test.java as below
    //// test.java
    import mylib.rbcore.*;
    import java.until.*;
    class test {
    %>export CLASSPATH="/mylib/rbcore/rb.jar;."
    %>javac test.java
    %>test.java:1 package mylib.rbcore does not exist
    so, how to make adjustment to rb.java & test.java so that I can make use of jar file rb.jar. please shows the steps to do. thanks a lot.

    import mylib.rbcore.*;This assumes the package mylib.rbcore and imports all its classes.
    But the source of the class does contain package statement, so the class is in the default package.

    Hello,
    the *.jar file thing is a common problem in Java. One simple solution to the problem is by saving the *.jar file in the C:\j2sdk1.4.0\jre\lib\ext\ folder. This directory is an extension to the regular java files and by doing this, java will look in this directory if you import some other files not included in the java package. This does not work if you are using JBuilder, couse JBuilder installs its own jsdk, which is uses, probably under the JBuilder folder.

  • Jar file upload and transport in Java webdynpro

    Hi,
    I wanted to change do small chnage to the existing jar file in webdynpro jave application. I did change the jar file.
    Question: Please let me know how can i include this jar file into existing application back and how the transport happend for the same?
    do we need to copy paste the ne jar file(updated jar file) in local drive where it exists and do little chnage the application will create an activity. then move to test and prd  will that move the jar file as well?
    appreciate your prompt help.
    Thanks
    Rag

    hi rag,
    1) "Like this have couple projects for same application. Under two are Jars, under these two jars i have to update my changed jar. Then the file used in another project.
    I can see other project which is using this jar is seeing in webdynpro explorer.
    But two jar projects are not showing in webdynpro explorer, but they can see through Navigator after i imported into location NWDS."
    here it shows that two are external library files having the jar file in the library folder.
    2) "My request is i have changed the jar file from existing jar project and replaced it in local path where it is currently. but it didnt ask me the activity to deploy the same.
    In this part , im not clear like how you were able to change the jar file without checking out the external lib dc , in the external lib, as i told earlier if it was checked out then activity will not be asked,
    3) "so how do i update JAR file and delpoy into server. and where can i see the JAR file been updated in server? i am how to deploy into server."
    JAR file cannot be deployed directly the way you deploy a DC or Webdyn pro project.
    if you have changed the jar file , just build your webdynpro project that uses this jar file. and deploy the same . The new jar file gets deployed along with your webdynpro project.
    if you want to deploy jar file, then you have to create a wedynpro development component of type j2EE-Server--library .
    Then in Used Dcs add your external lib dcs assembly public part with build time dependency
    go throught this blog you will know more about external jar file and its usage at run time.... and how it is getting deployed to the server.

  • Update file date/time stamp using java

    I have created a java based installer using Jexpress tool and after I do the installation of my files, the files takes the current date rather then taking the date when it was created or modified.

    I would like to know if we can change the date and time stamp of the files using Java.
