Java Apps failing to launch

Hi,
I hope I'm posting this in the right place, I'm not quite sure. I'm running Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition. I was (attempting) to install WebLogic 8.1 Platform, but the installer kept failing. What would happen is the 'preperation' window would come up but the installer would never launch, even though javaw.exe showed up in the task manager. (I finally installed using console installation.)
Once that was installed, I tried launching the workshop - yet again the same thing happened. java.exe or javaw.exe shows up in the task manager but the workshop never launches.
It seems like any java app simply won't launch. How can I troubleshoot/fix this problem? On my hard drive I have:
j2sdkee1.3.1
jdk1.3.1_09
Note, I really know little about java at all. Let me know if this should be in a different forum.
Thanks
Tom

I have similar problem.
Had Weblogic 8.1 installed without problem, then installed JDK 1.4.2.05 successfully.
Now everything stop working and even a simple applet on IE would crash the browser. Any applet would die and I'd see java.exe on the Task Manager sitting there doing nothing.
I uninstalled the JDK but still Weblogic got messed up, can't even uninstall it.
Any insight would be appreicated. I'd really hate to reimage the OS, only if that's the last resort.

  • Adobe apps fail to launch after copying via ARD 3

For several years we have beeen updating our Adobe apps by updating our master image and copying (via ARD v.1, then v.2, now v. 3) the applications and the associated Application Support files to the target machines. (300 Macs running Tiger) Since upgrading to version 3 of ARD. Adobe apps fail to launch after they are replaced, even with the old files.
I found a post alluding to a known issue with Acrobat from June. It stated it was a known bug that engineering was aware of. THAT was the only mention I could find. Does anyone know anything more about this? This is critical for our publishing workflow - Adobe has two updates that affect us in critical areas that we need to implement, but are reluctant to visit 300 individual desktops (even remotely) and run individual install patches.
The silent install works great for installation, but does not address updates.
    Anyone?

  • Software Update Problem and Apps Failing to Launch

Ok, so, I have done a lot of hunting around to resolve this problem, (possibly problems) and tried some of the few fixes I have found, (though all were not exactly describing my problem). Said fixes were mentioned on here and on other sites/forums. Apologies if my post is described and resolved elsewhere. I couldn't find it.
    Firstly, my spec:
    27" iMac
    Lions OSX (10.7)
    3.1 Ghz Intel Core i5
16GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (installed by myself after purchase)
(Let me know if you need to know more to understand my computer further)
This computer is absolutely brand new. All I have done so far is the initial set up and installed Google Chrome and various Adobe software (CS5). Also, I did encounter a Java Runtime error and I appear to have fixed this issue by manually downloading the latest Java software.
I noticed a problem quite early on when apps were failing to launch/crashing. Frustratingly this isn't black and white. All apps, (both Apple software and third party software (mentioned above)) seem to do a random combination of:
+ Failing to launch - icon bounce a few times and then nothing (no error/dialog box)
+ Crashing - Instantly crashing when opened (typical crash dialog box)
+ Closing down - Open for no more than 5 seconds and then completely closing down (no error/dialog box)
+ Opening fine - An application that was doing one of the above three, but now (for what ever reason) working fine
For more clarity (though this isn't a rule), this is what each individual software (currently) does that I have tested:
Mail - Crashing, but now opening fine
Chrome - Crashing, but now opening fine
Facetime, Address Book, iCal - Opening fine
Photoshop - Opening fine, (though I have yet to click around and do anything substantial. Basically it appears to stay open)
    Illustrator - Failing to launch
    Dreamweaver - Crashing
    iTunes, iPhoto - Closing down
But, like I say, this hasn't been consistent, (for example, Chrome has gone through a process of not working, working, not working and now working).
To maybe resolve this I have tried to Software Update. It finds various updates and I download them. Download seems fine, but after clicking restart to install said updates, only a second in and an error dialog box appears stating that the update files may be corrupt. It then just restarts without updating.
First idea (prompted by a pre-existing forum thread), was to delete files found in Library > Caches. After doing this and restarting, nothing appeared to be fixed/resolved.
Second idea (again, prompted by a pre-existing forum thread), was to repair disk permissions in Disk Utility. After doing this and restarting nothing appeared to be fixed/resolved.
    Any ideas?

  • Keeper app fails to launch

The "Keeper" app for passwords on my iPad is not responding.  It just flashes and fails to launch.  I did a hard re-boot on my ipad and updated all my apps (keeper wasn't an app that needed an update though), and still no response.  Now I don't have access to any of my passwords. Panic!

    Hello zola1
The article below will continue your troubleshooting when apps do not open on your iPad. Depending on how the app stores the passwords, if it stores the data on their end or in the cloud then you may be able to delete the app and then download it again and it will work. If it is stored locally, The next step would be to restore your iPad with a back up of when the app was working.

  • Java preferences fails to launch

I can no longer run JavaPreferences, it fails to launch with the message
"A static initializer of the main class threw an exception: java.lang.NullPointerException..
    a while ago
    StergUK   gave this anwer, :
OK, after panicking a bit I have found the solution to this.
Go to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/ and delete 1.6.0 folder and 1.6.
    Then download this file:
    http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/isdal/snowleopardworkaround/java.1.5.0-leopard.tar.gz
Decompress the file and you should have a folder named 1.5.0.
Copy that folder to the /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/ replacing the old one. A window will pop up for version authentication. Click "Authenticate" and replace the old folder with the one from the java.1.5.0-leopard.tar.gz.
Run Java Preferences from Utilities and you are good to go.
I have tried, but I still cannot run Java preference and get the same answer : "A static initializer of the main class threw an exception: java.lang.NullPointerException..
    can anyone help?

Did you try deleting the .plist file yet?
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.java.JavaPreferences.plist from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
See if you can open Java Prefs.

  • HT1222 iLife apps fail to launch after running latest Software Update

    Hello,
I ran the Software Update (running Snow Leopard on a MBP) on Feb 6 which updated Remote Desktop (never use it) and also had a Security Update 2012-001 v1.1
Used Mail and Safari successfully after that but noticed Opera failing to launch. Thought it was an issue with Opera so didn't pay it much mind.
Tonight (Feb 7) I wanted to off load photos from my phone and discovered that iPhoto wouldn't launch and neither will iTunes. I haven't seen any other discussions related to this, but if there is one, please point me in that direction. Cheers.

    Miriam,
I read the selection in MacFixit and went through the steps that they suggested.
I even downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.dmg and when I went to re-install it the program Installer quit unexpectedly in the same manner that Safari, Mail, and Software Update did.
I also noted that when I tried to start either Safari or Mail using the terminal (I don't have much expertise in this area) they stated that there was a segmentation fault
Here is what was on the terminal screen:
Last login: Tue Jul 17 12:28:25 on ttyp1
    /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer; exit
    Welcome to Darwin!
    wilbur-purdues-imac-g5:~ wilbur$ /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer; exit
    Segmentation fault
    logout
    [Process completed]
It seems that I can install other programs using Installer, but I cannot do the upgrade. Maybe I have the wrong file.
Thanks for the support so far.

  • TS1702 all non-Apple apps fail to launch on my iPad

Suddenly all the non-Apple apps will not launch on my iPad (examples: Words with Friends; games; Trip Advisor; magazines, newspapers etc).  Tapping on icon causes the screen to darken for a second, like it is about to launch, and then it crashes back to the home screen.  Apple apps work fine.
All apps and operating system are up to date.  I have hard re-started the iPad twice.

Try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

So it seems that another issue with Java 7 update 25 and Web Start applications is that a signed application will not launch when offline.
It fails when attempting to check the revocation status of the signing certificate.
Anyone have any ideas to get around this exception aside from uninstalling update 25?

  • Creative Cloud CS6 Apps Fail to Launch

I subscribed to creative  cloud CS6 and downloaded the Adobe Application Manager. I seem to be able to sign in to my Adobe account, but can't seem to launch the apps. When I first downloaded it and installed Photoshop, it showed me a "Launch" option that worked. Today I had a notice to download some upgrades and AAM tells  me that Ps is now up to date, but when I click on it nothing happens. Does anyone know why or what to do about it?

I have the shortcut on my desktop. The problem is that when I bring up the AAM, whether by clicking on the shortcut icon or via the start menu, I can see all the apps, but I am unable to launch them. The only exceptions are Acrobat IX Pro and Creative Cloud Connection, which show "Launch App" options. Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Illustratort

  • Photo/printing apps fail to launch. Why?

I upgraded from Leopard to 10.6.6 on my 2007 MacPro the other day, just after adding an ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card to feed an Apple 27" LED Cinema Display. Everything seemed to work fine until I tried running some photo and printing apps. Then I discovered that Photoshop CS4 won't recognize the driver for my Epson 3880 when I try to print, although it recognizes the 2400's driver. In addition, ColorMunki simply freezes on launch without displaying anything and has to be forced to quit, and both Epson LFP Remote Panel and Aperture 3 give a notice that a fault prevented the launch, and that the app might not be compatible with the current version of the OS. I haven't found any other balky apps, but I haven't tried launching everything. Safari works and so does Mail. Printer drivers have been repeatedly reinstalled, from DVD and from the Epson site.
I replaced the X1900 card and the 24" HD Cinema display, found the problem persisted, and went back to the 5770/27". So the problem is not with the card or the display.
Wondering if I had a corrupted installation of the OS, I reinstalled 10.6.3 from the DVD, found the problem persisted, updated to 10.6.6, and found the problem persisted.
The strange thing is that I have absolutely no problem with any of these apps, or any other problem, with 10.6.6 on my MacBook Pro or my iMac. So the problem is not with the OS.
What IS the problem? And why is it occurring only with apps that access printers/printer drivers? There must be a clue in there. HELP!
    —howard

Is it the Epson Stylus Pro 3800?
Have you installed the driver on that page? It adds support to the driver already installed.
If that isn't your model search for it there.

  • Why don't all my free apps fail to launch?

I have installed apps that run fine the first time, but once disconnected, they don't start up again.  Mail, app store, Safari all work just fine.  I have the latest version of software 5.0.1 and the latest version of 8MByte Touch.  I have reinstalled some of the Apps and they run again, but once the unit is turned off, they don't run again.  I thought perhaps I have too much info loaded on it (using too much memory?) but under the general menu it shows I have 230 MB of memory available.  I'm using the latest version of iTunes on a Windows 7 laptop.
Any suggestions on what could be causing this?  Perhaps a setting set incorrectly?

Download any new free or paid app on the iPod and see if that fixes it.
