Hi, when I try to run the php authentication example I get the error
"You don't have permission to access /cnx/Flexternal.html on this server." cnx is my folder name at http://cardcrackers.com/cnx/
I checked the unix permissions and set them to 777 and still this message. I remember reading something about adding some entries to htaccess but not sure if it was related to running this example app or not.

Problems with basic authentication example
I am trying to run the basic authentication example from the Professional JSP book (Chapter 16) although for some reason I continue to get "AUTHENTICATION MECHANISM NULL" instead of "AUTHENTICATION MECHANISM BASIC". I do not even get the pop-up window with the prompt for Username and Password. I am running Tomcat 4.0-dev and have tried to access the login window by pointing the browser to the appropriate file:
//localhost:8080/ch16-basic/index.jsp
Still not login window???
I have added the extra user and password to the tomcat-users.xml file (username="projsp" password="projsp" roles="superuser")
Still no luck????
Could someone please let me know what could possibly be going wrong.

What is the difference if I use java code directly in JSP or use java bean in JSP?

How can I pass string from jsp to html or java script?it's generally accepted as better design to separate presentation from logic. meaning, the java code in the jsp should be used to support displaying data, as oppsoed to implementing the application - like database access, etc.
when the logic is separated from the presentation, it allows you to reuse logic components within several jsp pages.
if you decide to change the presentation layer in the future (to support wap, for example) you don't need to rewrite your entire application, since the "guts" of the application is outside of the jsps.
it is also a good idea to separate your business logic from your data layer. adding a "buffer zone" between these layers helps in the same manner as in separating presentation from logic. if you're using flat files for storage now, upgrading to a database wouldn't require rewriting all your business logic, just the methods which write out the data to a file, for example.
once you feel comfortable with separating the various layers, check out the struts framework at http://jakarta.apache.org/
to answer your second question, to get parameters passed in from HTML forms, use ServletRequet's getParameter() method.

to answer your third question: when displaying the HTML from withing a jsp, print out the string to a javascript variable or a hidden form element:

"web-based jsp project" => so you write JSP or HTML stuff there, no? Like including the dtfx.js file and putting the javafx({ ... }) call in the proper places.
"wrote the example code like (JavaFX code)" => Maybe it should be in a separate JavaFX project? Then generate the .jar file and use it in the above project.
Now maybe I am misleading (if there is a a JavaFX stage in new items of the projects, perhaps NB allows it?) so I hope somebody knowing NB better than me will help you.
Just in case: JavaFX code goes to .fx files; you cannot embed JFX code in JSP pages. -

JAAS Authentication Example Error
I am working with the JAAS Authentication example provided by Sun at the following link:

I am working with Windows NT. I am using a NTLoginModule in my config file. I would like to create a simple Login that uses the current OS's user ID. Once I add the security.manager and a policy file that includes anything besides full permisions (permission java.security.AllPermission;), I get a Security Exception, and more specifically a "java.security.AccessControlException:access denied...".
I am using the following config:

I would like to use a policy file that gives permission to a file for the current user. I would like to do something similar to the following, but get the error once this is added....

However, I am trying to also do my work on a Solaris/Unix machine. I get an error that tells me that only Principal-based entries are allow. Anyone know how to give permission to all users in a Principal statemtent. The same setup as the above, using Unix Principals, will not work. Seems like I have to always have a grant and Principal for every set of permissions.

which path should i set in java source directory and HTML directory in InputPaths of jdeveloper properies.
remote debuging works well for EJB's and servlets.
Is there any white paper published for doing remote debuging.

I’m working on WC Spaces Customization library “com.acme.custom.webcenter.spaces.war”. From time to time, when I deploy the library to WC Server, it errors out.

If I try to login the Spaces, I get “Java code in jsp source files is not allowed in ojsp.next mode.” Should I stop the Spaces server before the deployment? In this case, other people won’t have accesses to Spaces? The deployment error doesn’t happen all the time.

After that you get the 'ava code in jsp source files is not allowed in ojsp.next mode.' error. As you said this only happens sometimes which also point to an other problem and not to the jsp error.
Have you ask this on the {forum:id=354} forum?
For me it's more a deployment/redeployment question.

The error display points to TPClass in the import statement with the message "TPClass not found".
TPClass files are in the same location as the other project files.
I have creatyed and compiled the TPClass package.
Is there more I need to do?

How to access java method in JSP

I need to access java class (abstract portal component) method doContent() in a JSP which is under PORTAL-INF/jsp folder.
I did

Aclass is coming as autofill/prepopulated with cntrl+space
Till this time, it is working. no errors. But when I do

a. (a dot) no methods are populating (autofill..cntrl+space) or If I forcebly add method a.doContent(req,res)... at runtime its giving error.
It's not only with doContent method... Its with any simple methods in that class or any other class.
(Other than doContent method in the APC java class are prepopulating/autofilling but giving error in runtime)

I want to open a word document on pageLoad of JSP, the word document is not a single document, there is a form in which there is a "name" and "template" whenever user clicks on a button there is one action attached to it which creates a copy of that template in a different folder.. on the next page OnLoad i want to open that particular document. for that i have created a variable and also have set in the session, just want to access it in the below code.
I have a formbean in which i have a variable, the scope is session, that variable i have put it in session also. but i want to access that variable in a "java function" in JSP so that "onLoad" page that function should work.

Plz help.....If you're working under a framework like struts you should definitely be using JSTL tags rather than scriptlet code to access variables within the page. With JSTL code <% codes can be almost entirely avoided.
To transfer a value from a Servlet to a JSP don't use a session variable, use a request attribute. Session variables should only be used when values have to survive from one transaction to another.
You can write something like:
obj = w.Documents.open('<c:out value="${openURL}"/>');in the Javascript portion of your JSP.
Just beware of potential problems with quotes. The coresponding code in the Servlet would be like:

How does one interact between java code and jsp page.That is, if the java code does say database connection, the web page should tell that the connection has been made,just like an application but this will work on the web server not in the console.Kindly let me know.

If you are building some small simple web-app it's probably quicker to embed code right onto your JSP page.
There are various levels of abstracting your web-app separating display from logic from the model.
The following are techniques from simple web-apps to more complicated ones.
-Embedding script right into your JSP
-Using beans
-Using custom tags ( I think there are some standard ones now, struts seems to be a popular buzzword)
-Including a servlet to handle your requests redirect, update bean content grab info form your database and forward to a JSP. (Read up on model 2 architecture.)
To include as much detail as possible would be to write a book. Fortunately many have so I don't have to fit one in this tiny reply box.
