Java code to alternate row bgcolors

Hey all,
I have a table that's size is dynamic depending on the size of a resultset returned from the database. I want to pretty up the table by alternating the color of the rows. I was able to do this in asp by using the mod fuction which returns the remainder of an integer, and so if i = 1 bgcolor=white, if i=2 bgcolor=gray. I'm not sure what to use in jsp. Take a look at my code, and see if you know of a better way.
<%
    int rowcount = 0;
    String rowbgcolor = "";
    int i = 1;
    while(i <= validUsers.length){
        rowcount = rowcount + 1
        if rowcount mod 2 = 0 then
                rowbgcolor = "#F8F8B1"
        else
                rowbgcolor = "#ECEC88"
        end if
        %>
        <tr bgcolor="<%=rowbgcolor%>">
            <td><img src="<bean:message key="marsapp.images_dir"/>/icon_edit.png" /> </td>
            <td><%=validUsers.getUsername()%> </td>
<td><%=validUsers[i].getLastname()%>, <%=validUsers[i].getFirstname()%> </td>
<td><%=validUsers[i].getPhone()%> </td>
<td><%=validUsers[i].getFax()%> </td>
</tr>
<%i++;
%>
There is probably an easier way to do this with css but I'm no whiz with that. This is a struts application, but I dont find struts to be useful when generating formated tables like this. Is there something that I'm missing or is this already built into struts?

sorry for not giving anyone a chance to reply, but here is the code transferred to jsp. It has the desirable effect of alternating rows, but it looks a bit sloppy to me. Still looking for suggestions for a better way.
<%
mars.UserDAO currentDAO = (mars.UserDAO)session.getAttribute("UserDAO");
mars.User[] validUsers = currentDAO.getUsers();
%>
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" width=600 align="center">
    <tr class="TableRowHeader" bgcolor='#ECEC88'>
        <td> </td>
        <td>Username</td>
        <td>Name (Last, First)</td>
        <td>Phone</td>
        <td>Fax</td>
    </tr>
    <%
    String rowbgcolor = "";
    int i = 0;
    while(i <= validUsers.length-1){
        if ((i % 2) == 0){
                rowbgcolor = "#F8F8B1";
        else{
                rowbgcolor = "#ECEC88";
        }%>
        <tr bgcolor="<%=rowbgcolor%>">
            <td><img src="<bean:message key="marsapp.images_dir"/>/icon_edit.png" /> </td>
            <td><%=validUsers.getUsername()%> </td>
<td><%=validUsers[i].getLastname()%>, <%=validUsers[i].getFirstname()%> </td>
<td><%=validUsers[i].getPhone()%> </td>
<td><%=validUsers[i].getFax()%> </td>
</tr>
<%i++;
}%>

  • Adding rows to J2ME WTK/Settings/User Defined (through Java code)

    Hi all..
    Just a quick question..
    Is it possible to add Key/Value pairs to a MIDlet's 'User Defined' field through Java code..(ie) - add a new row to the User Defined field..
    If not, can anyone tell me how a Bluetooth-Client GUI can save an image it has been sent by a Bluetooth-Server GUI?
    Thanks in advance..
    Rookie

    if i understand you, you want to call application module method when user clicks on add button on the UI and your table is from VO
    so what i can come up for now is:
    1) create variable binding from the iterator for both name and price.
    2) on your UI action button :
    <af:commandButton actionListener="yourbean.addToCart">
    <f:attribute name="pName" value ="binding.<created name bind variable>"
    <f:attribute name="pPrice" value = "binding.<created price bind variable>"
    </af:commandButton>
    3) custom Managed Bean:
    //yourBean.java
    public void addToCart(ActionEvent e){
    // get binding here
    // use executeWitParams method to send parameter to the function "testMethod" and execute
    //AppModuleImp.java
    public void testMethod(String pName,String pPrice) {
    CardVOImpl vo = this.getCartVO1();
    CardVORowImpl r = (CardVORowImpl)vo.createRow();
    r.setAttribute("NAME", pName);
    r.setAttribute("PRICE", pPrice);
    vo.insertRow(r);
    Hope this helps...
    Let me know if not..
    Thanks

  • Alternate row different dynamic BGcolor

    I cannot find the way to handle the Dynamic BgColor
    change....
    Because in my calender report got 600 field each fields
    depend on the flag to change the Bgcolor...
    i found the lousy way is each field have to set a duplicate
    color field overlap the data fields(set transparent)...then the
    color field
    set in the property "Print when" qeury.Flg eq 1 then show
    color.....
    is it got anyway like the HTML + CFM to set every alternate
    row set the BgColor...?
    if dun have choose i need to use this lousy way...
    i Need helps...

    assuming you want to alternate 2 colours of rows returned by
    your query:
    <cfoutput query="yourquery">
    <table>
    <cfif yourquery.currentrow MOD 2 is 1>
    <cfset bgc = "##cccccc">

  • How to get No. of rows affected by Update or Delete in Oracle in Java Code?

    All,
    I know that sql%rowcount can give me the rows affected. But I want to get this number directly after OracleCallableStatement.ExecuteUpdate?
    Thank you.

    kellerer,
    I appologize for what I said.
    I gave a not clear question. And some rude words.
    One my colleague wrote below code in order to get the affected rows after update data in Stored Procedure in Oracle. But it didn't work, so another colleague had to change the code. I think the best way is not to change Java code but change code in Stored Procedure. You know it was Friday, we all supposed to fix that change this week, I got the link you gave and tried to fix that using return in Stored Procedure. But still couldn't work after tried many times. Because I told my colleague how to change code, I had to take the responsibility, I was too impatient to write those rude words. Sorry.
    int success = cs.executeUpdate();

  • How to pass the parameter values to the stored procedure from java code?

    I have a stored procedure written in sqlplus as below:
    create procedure spInsertCategory (propertyid number, category varchar2, create_user varchar2, create_date date) AS BEGIN Insert into property (propertyid, category,create_user,create_date) values (propertyid , category, create_user, create_date); END spInsertCategory;
    I am trying to insert a new row into the database using the stored procedure.
    I have called the above procedure in my java code as below:
    CallableStatement sp = null;
    sp = conn.prepareCall("{call spInsertCategory(?, ?, ?, ?)}");
    How should I pass the values [propertyid, category, create_user, create_date) from java to the stored procedure?[i.e., parameters]
    Kindly guide me as I am new to java..

  • Some java code returns a null resultset from 10.2.0.1 DB, but works w/ 9.2

    I am a Java noob guys, but we have java code the calls an Oracle Function. This code is unchanged from what successfully runs against an Oracle 9.2 database returning, in this case, one row from the database. A ref cursor is used. When the same Java code calls the same ref cursor function from a 10.2.0.1 database, a null resultset occurs. The function correctly returns a single row when executed by the same database user via sql-plus. So it must be a java thing. Does the jdbc driver need to be upgraded to correctly run against a 10.2 database? And is this null resultset type of anomaly a potential result of having a wrong version of ojdbc14.jar? Nothing else has changed except pointing the code to the same package and tables in a 10.2 database.
    Thanks in advance for your comments.
    Phil McDermott

    I realize now that this is the wrong forum to post in, but I was linked here from a google search on the issue.
    I downloaded the 10.2.0.1 ojdbc14.jar from oracle, but the problem persists.
    yeesh! now what?

  • How i can set the selected item of a dropDown component from java code

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post
    How i can set the slected item of a DropDown component from backing beans java code ?
    it is binded with a database , so one field determine its display and one other field determine its value , I want to set the selected item of this combobox
    In back code i have both value and display values to use them .
    can some one give me some help ?
    Thanks ,

    See code sample 3 at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/learning/tutorials/2/helloweb.html
    See also, the selection components row in the table under http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/learning/tutorials/2/helloweb.html
    It says
    One way to preselect items is to call setSelectedValue(Object[]) or setSelectedValue(Object) from the prerender() method. You pass in the return values of the items that you want preselected. Be sure to verify that getSelected() returns null before setting the default options, or you will overwrite the user's selections on a post-back.

  • How to re-issue an SQL query in java code in deadlock situation ?

    Hi all..
    I have a java application (in Struts) which is running on JBoss 4.0.1 server. The database is MySql 6.0. It is an
    application made to be used among multiusers. The background operating system is Windows Vista.
    Now a days i am facing a peculiar problem due to which the further things go wrong. I am getting following error :
    com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.MySQLTransactionRollbackException: Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction
    I searched over forums and i got response as restart the transaction in deadlock.
    In my java code it is a delete query where i get such exception when multiple users are accessing the application. What i tried for time being is as follows :
    Statement stmt = null;
    String temp = null;
    Connection conn = null;
    String sUserID =(String) session.getAttribute("username")
    try
    conn = DBConnection.getJndiConnection();
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    temp = "Delete FROM temptable where Login ='"+sUserID+"'";
    System.out.println("QUERY:"+temp);
    int rowCount = stmt.executeUpdate(temp);
    System.out.println("Rows affected in try ="+rowCount+" for user :"+sUserID);
    // in catch i re-issue the delete query in deadlock..
    catch (com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.MySQLTransactionRollbackException ne)
    System.out.println("Error ....Deadlock occured for user: "+sUserID);
    ne.printStackTrace();
    try
    int rowCount = s.executeUpdate(temp);
    System.out.println("Rows affected in catch ="+rowCount+" for user :"+sUserID);
    catch (Exception e)
    System.out.println("Exception again after restarting transaction..with user :"+sUserID);
    e.printStackTrace();
    (all necessary imports are present in code)
    Here i am properly establishing the database connection with the help of other class DBConnection. As most of the forum insisted to re-issue the transaction, i have tried upto one level with above code. But still the problem is just partially solved.
    How can i write my code so that every time if there is MySQLTransactionRollbackException , then the delete query should be re-issued again and again untill the transaction is complete.
    Can i use GOTO statement ? or is it bad programming practice?
    What are the other possible ways ??
    Can someone please help in this regard ??
    Thanks in advance..

    Being picky, that's not C++, that's C. Standard headers in C++ dont' have .h after them, loop variables are scoped with the for, you use constants rather than #defines, etc..
    C and C++ both don't initialise arrays by default; you'd have to write an initialiser to get it to zero out the array:
        int s[sz][sz] = {};gcc will insert a call to memset to zero the array.
    If the author was assuming that the array was zeroed out, there would be no point zeroing the first row and column.
    The code reads values which haven't been initialised. If you mark such values explicitly undefined, and change the program to report an error when undefined, then you get several cases where the program makes such report.
    So either it' s a primitive random number generator (some random number generators use uninitialised memory as a source of randomness), or it's buggy, or it's processing undefined data and throwing away the result. Either way, it cannot be directly be ported to Java if the undefined values (which are limited to a small area of the ouput) are significant.

  • New problem  --  My java code can't see my CLASSES from Mapping Workbench

    Donald and others -
    I am VERY new to TopLink......
    I was at the last Oracle Developer Days in Northern Virginia. Donald convinced me and my co-workers to use TopLink for our upcoming project. I have been having tons of problems getting it to work correctly. Maybe I need a TOPLINK license plate, like Donald!!!
    Here is my newest problem. I can create a DatabaseSession, login to it, write a query and log out of it.
    However, I can only do this if I remove my classes from the Mapping Workbench. As soon as I add even one class to the Mapping Workbench......I get an error as follows:

    Thanks for the reply!
    However, I did try to implement that yesterday.
    When I add the "getClass().getClassLoader()" to the "XMLProjectReader.read" call, the codes loses site of my project (.xml) file.
    Here is the new line:
    project = XMLProjectReader.read("C:\\LBIT TopLink\\ISR\\ISR.xml", getClass().getClassLoader());
    Here is the new error:
    EXCEPTION [TOPLINK-7099] (TopLink - 9.0.3 (Build 423)): oracle.toplink.exceptions.ValidationException
    EXCEPTION DESCRIPTION: Could not find xml project file which is specified in properties file: xmlProjectFile=C:\LBIT TopLink\ISR\ISR.xml.

         oracle.toplink.sessions.Project oracle.toplink.tools.workbench.XMLProjectReader.read(java.lang.String, java.lang.ClassLoader)
    But my code could find that file before I added the "getClass().getClassLoader()" code.
    Maybe I can avoid this problem by "deploying the XML file in my application jar?" Could you please explain more about this option after answering the first part of my question.
    Any other posters feel free to help me too.
    I know TopLink is a powerful tool, I just keep hitting these hurdles. ARRRRRRRGGGG!!!
    Thanks again,
    Andy

  • Clear the Filter Criteria from java code programmatically

    Hi All,
    I am using jdev version 11.1.1.6.0.
    I do have ADF table for which I have added filter to each column .
    I created table using java class data control.
    Filter is working Fine .
    My use case is-
    When I click on search button data is populated in table.
    When anybody enters filter value in column suppose product and hit enter ,it filters data.
    if he clears and do not hit enter key and search again then it does not show all data it only show filtered data.
    So how can I programmatically clear all filters so on click of  search it will show all the values not filtered values.
    I have not used default Filter Behavior.
    Please check below code for reference
      <af:table value="#{bindings.AfMyAccOrderStatusHistorySearchVO.rangeSet}"
                                  var="row"
                                  rows="#{bindings.AfMyAccOrderStatusHistorySearchVO.rangeSize}"
                                  emptyText="#{bindings.AfMyAccOrderStatusHistorySearchVO.viewable ? 'No data to display.' : 'Access Denied.'}"
                                  fetchSize="#{bindings.AfMyAccOrderStatusHistorySearchVO.rangeSize}"
                                  rowBandingInterval="0" id="tblStatusHistoryList"
                                  autoHeightRows="#{bindings.AfMyAccOrderStatusHistorySearchVO.rangeSize}"
                                  rowSelection="single"
                                  width="100%"
                                  partialTriggers="::cb5 ::cb8 ::cb1 ::cb2"
                                  filterModel="#{bindings.AfMyAccOrderStatusHistorySearchVO1Query.queryDescriptor}"
                                  queryListener="#{bindings.AfMyAccOrderStatusHistorySearchVO1Query.processQuery}"
                                  filterVisible="true" varStatus="vs"
                                  binding="#{AfMyAccOrderStatusHistoryAction.orderStatusHistorySearchList}">
    <af:column headerText="#{alfaprojectBundle['ordstatushistory.column.invoiceDate']}"
                                      width="70"
                                      sortProperty="invoiceDate"
                                      sortable="true" filterable="true"
                                      id="c7" filterFeatures="caseInsensitive">
                              <af:outputText value="#{row.invoiceDate}" id="ot16"/>
                            </af:column>
                            <af:column headerText="#{alfaprojectBundle['ordstatushistory.column.soldto']}"
                                       width="100"
                                       sortProperty="soldTo"
                                       sortable="true" filterable="true"
                                       id="c14" filterFeatures="caseInsensitive">
                              <af:outputText value="#{row.soldTo}"
                                             visible="#{row.visibilityIsOrdrFirstItem}"
                                             id="ot23"/>
                            </af:column>
    So how to clear all filter values from java code.

    I can't get the example "Programmatically Manipulating a Table's QBE Filter Fields"
    Where is it ?

  • Function calling the java code

    I have a java code that returns the size of the file name. I have created a pl/sql function that calls the method in the java class.
    The problem I face is , when I try to call the function using the command "CALL f_size('C:\Batch\Query.sql')into :leng " , the error comes reporting that
    "No method func in class fSize ".
    I have given both the java& pl/sql code. Can anyone help me out?

    return length;
    create or replace function f_size(path varchar2) return number

    What version of the database are you runnning?
    If Oracle 9.2 or later, no need for java code. Use UTL_FILE.FGETATTR procedure.

  • Alternate rows with different number of columns in JTable or similar

    Hi Guys,
    I have tried searching google and these forums, but have not been able to find what I am looking for.
    Looking for ideas, on how to do the following
    I have a swing application, that I would like to have alternate rows
    eg.
    1st row has 10 columns
    2nd row has 1 column, that expands all 10 columns of the 1st row
    and keeps alternating like this for the rest of the records in the table.
    Is there a special JTable that can do this for me, or has anyone had to do this before.
    Thanks,
    Mac

    an example of merging cells is here
    [http://www.crionics.com/products/opensource/faq/swing_ex/JTableExamples4.html]
    scroll down to 'Multi-Span Cell'
    run the program, highlight some cells, click combine.
    if that's the type of thing you're after, modify your code per what's in 'combine'
    note: the original code (now) produces a stack overflow error (don't know if it's been fixed in the above link),
    but if you get that error, in AttributiveCellTableModel's setDataVector( Vector newData, Vector columnNames )
    change
    setColumnIdentifiers(columnNames);
    to
    columnIdentifiers = columnNames;
