Java crashes on a solaris 9 randomly with a core dump

Hello
Currently we are using JBoss Application server on solaris 9. Over a period of time. Java crashes suddenly. The condition under which this can be reproduced is currently not reproduceable. But over a period of time, this crash just happens.
The following is the stack trace of the core file. Can somebody see this and let me know what could be the possible problem.
bash-2.05# adb java.3558.1133780573

Hi there
Not sure which jdk you are using but I am guessing you are using native code?
libkernel32.so
See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/vm/signal-chaining.html
Start your application this way, this should solve your problem.
export LD_PRELOAD=<libjvm.so dir>/libjsig.so; java_application (ksh)
setenv LD_PRELOAD <libjvm.so dir>/libjsig.so; java_application (csh)
Also, even if u are using 1.3.1, u can get the libjsig.so from 1.4.2 and do the same.
Hope this helps.

  • Solaris 9 + Checkpoint R55 CORE DUMPING, HELP!

Here are the list of revisions I have installe donto the machine:
    Solaris 9 (core install) (09/04)
    Checkpoint R55 (HFA 15)
    Recommended 9 (07/18/05).
When we are running the commands 'cpstart' and 'cpstop' the Solaris 9 OS follows by doing 2/3 core dumps each time. We have redone this box to check if its a fault with the install but it still core dumps each time with use the 'cpstart' and 'cpstop' commands to start and stop the Checkpoint R55 software.
    >
    # cpstop
    Segmentation Fault (core dumped)
    Segmentation Fault (core dumped)
    VPN-1/FW-1 stopped
    SVN Foundation: cpd stopped....... etc.
Has anyone got and ideas or suggestions?
its has been suggested to send this onto our Solaris VAR for interrogation to have the dumps put through some sort of analyser, but we have no support (media kit only) HELP!

we're also unable to connect to the box using the r55 checkpoint software (if anyone knows about this)
"....make sure your server is up and running and that you're defined as a GUI client".
it WAS working before appliying the Recommended_9 patch

  • Solaris 8 branded zone core dump on cssd

    Hi,
Just migrated my first Sol8 machine to a solaris 8 branded zone. but on the console I get error messages:
Nov 8 12:45:42 gent320b cssd: The process "ccv.sh" has been killed by sig#139, core dumped
Nov 8 12:45:47 gent320b cssd: The process "kkcv.sh" has been killed by sig#139, core dumped
    the netstat -f unix
    Active UNIX domain sockets
Address Type Vnode Conn Local Addr Remote Addr
    stream-ord 6000ebffad8 00000000 /tmp/jd_sockV6
output doesn't list any /dev/ccv or /dev/kkcv sockets like to 'real' machine.
    Any ideas?

This error messages are output by
cssd which is a input method of Japanese.
If you don't use Japanese input method cs00, you can stop it by following method.
    # /etc/init.d/loc.ja.cssd stop
    # mv /etc/rc2.d/S90loc.ja.cssd /etc/rc2.d/_S90loc.ja.cssd

  • ReplyTo header field from Java JMS read by C JMS API causes core dump...

    Hi,

First step is to add the option -Xcheck:jni to your java command line. It will flag common JNI errors.
If that doesn't identify the problem, then compile your jni code with debugging symbols (-g) and add the following option to the java command line when you run your test: -XX:+ShowMessageBoxOnError. When you hit the problem again, the VM will keep the process alive instead of calling abort(). Then you can use dbx to attach to the live process and should be able to get a better idea of what went wrong.

  • Inetd service/program crashes with core dump in Solaris 8 zone/container

I have developed a service in C that is launched from inetd when something comes on a specific port.
When a connection is opened to the port a core dump is created in the same directory where the executable file is located.
If you run the same service program from the command line everything is working perfect.
This is running in a Solaris 8 zone/container on a Solaris 10 machine.
Everything is set correctly in /etc/inetd.conf and in /etc/services.
I have even stripped down the program to a hello world program that is just printing a string to the screen and it is still crashing with a core dump.
    # ldd test_srv
    /usr/lib/secure/s8_preload.so.1
    libc.so.1 => /usr/lib/libc.so.1
    libdl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libdl.so.1
    /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R/lib/libc_psr.so.1
The same service is running on a Linux machine and on a Solaris 10 machine without zones/containers without any problems.
Can you please help me figure out what am I missing. Is there something specific with zones/containers that should be set / configured?
Do I have to set some specific env. variables to work in a Solaris 8 zone/container environment or is it something very simple that I'm missing?

Could you please examine the truss log and advice what the problem is and how to fix it?

  • LMS 4.21 - ConfigMgmtServer crashes with core-dump

    Hi all,
    in our environment
    Solaris 10
    LMS 4.21
from time to time the ConfigMgmtServer crashes/terminates with a core-dump because of SIGILL (Illegal Instruction).
Is this a known bug related to LMS 4.21, or do we have to tune java parameters (Xms and Xmx)?
    Thanks for any feedback.

  • Invoking Java from C on Solaris

    Hi!
I know, similar questions concerning this issue have been posted here before, but none of the answers helped me out.
    I'm using Java 1.3 and cc (SC4.0 18 Oct 1995 C 4.0) on Solaris 2.6
I'm trying to compile and run the exact example from sun's web page to invoke a JVM from C. The code can be found here:(http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/native1.1/invoking/invo.html).
    this is the make-command:
    cc -I/jdk/1.3/include -I/jdk/1.3/include/solaris -L /jdk/1.3/jre/lib/sparc -L
/jdk/1.3/jre/lib -o invoke -ljava -ljvm -lthread -lc invoke.c
I can't avoid getting the follwing warnings:
"invoke.c", line 39: warning: argument #2 is incompatible with prototype:
prototype: pointer to pointer to void :
    "/app/unido-inf/sun4_56/jdk/1.3/include/jni.h", line 1911
argument : pointer to pointer to pointer to const struct
JNINativeInterface_ {pointer to void reserved0, pointer to void reserved1,
    poi...
and the compiled program crashes with a core dump (a very helpful error message!)
    ./invoke
    Segmentation Fault (core dumped)
    [status 139]
Has anyone ever managed to run this example program from Sun's site?
Is it the C-Compiler that matters here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Patrick.

This should be a version problem. JNI itself has versions like JDK, as the example is for JDK1.1, and JNI has been updated in JDK1.3 (I can't remember the version number, but they are different). And the invocation API and implementation has changed. So when you run the program, it ends up with incompitable data type and/or method signiture/prototype. Maybe you should try to use JDK1.1 or find a decent tutorial about JDK1.3's invoke API.

  • /usr/sfw/sbin/snmpd core dump with 6 local Zones

    Hi,
the snmpd is running in 8 local and 1 global zone. If I do the following command from our monitoring server the snmpd crashes with a core dump in / in the global zone.
    /usr/sfw/bin/snmpdf -v 2c -c public servername
I have all the lates patches applied and use Solaris 10 1/06 x86. Workaround is to shutdown 2 Zones and the above command is working fine. Any limitations on the amount of zones on one server ?
    Regards,
    Van-Thieu Tran

Found the problem myself: The SNMPD Version shipped with Solaris 10 until 6/06 seems to be buggy. Compiled a newer version runs just fine.

  • Solaris 10, Ruby on Rails, Core Dumps

I am not very savvy with Solaris administration and we are having issues with configuring our system to run Ruby on Rails applications. We opted to use the Coolstack framework for our environment, thankfully without many hiccups. That said, our applications load but core dump during the second page load.
At this point, I'm not sure if it's our recent switch to Coolstack that is causing the problem. We've also worked to get a Mongrel cluster up and running, so that could also be the culprit.
What I'm looking for really is advice on how to pin down what the error is. I've learned about pstack to deal with the core dump file, but I'd have a better time understanding Chinese than that output. I also read about gdb and dbx, neither of which appear to be installed on our system. A strings on the file, another recommendation I found, spits out a bunch of gibberish.
How can I move forward in discovering the problem?

I'm having the exact same problem with my Solaris server. I can't seem to get any form of Rails running on the system, and pages generated by Rails crash after a few page loads (not always the same number).
Did you have any luck tracking down the issue? I've asked around in a number of places and come up empty-handed every time.

  • Dump complete java VM state as core dump (not via OS) possible?

    Hi everyone,
I've a problem debugging an application.
Background: Sometimes my application comes to a very unlikely state, which at the moment results in an error message. The stack trace alone has no great value, since this state is cause by the interaction of more than one thread. The state is resolved throwing an exception, the program continues normally.
Goal: If I reach this state, I want to suspend the application, dump the complete state of all java threads, objects, ... (complete java memory core dump) to analyse it later.
Question: Is there a possibility to generate such dumps?
    Just thinking:
One posibility would be, to send a signal from the vm to some external program (e.g. udp packet), this program attaches a standard OS-level debugger (e.g. gdb under linux), dumps the core, resumes app, detach. But I guess reconstruction of internal VM state from complete dump is rather hard, is it?
I've looked at jdb, to see if it has some java-core-dump functions, but it seems not to be so. Are there alternative implementations, or helper scripts that make jdb loop over all java object addresses and dump them?
Does someone known about the jdb remote debugging interface? Is the protocol public, can I implement such a feature on myself?

    Hi everyone,
I was looking for a way to dump the complete state of a JVM (all runing threads, objects, ...) and afterwards to analize the dumped data. I have found a thread(http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=735052) here in the forums with some explainations how this could be done using the Java 2 sdk 1.5.0 - troubleshooting tools (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/tooldocs/experimentaltools.html).
I've made a small application, which starts a thread and just prints out continously some messages to the console.
After that I attached with gdb to the running process as described, and generated a core file.
Unfortunatelly on calling jdsadebugd with the core dump it throws the following exception:
    jsadebugd /..../jdk1.5.0_07/bin/java core.18294 DebServ
Attaching to core core.18294 from executable /.../jdk1.5.0_07/bin/java and starting RMI services, please wait...

Does anyone have an idea what goes wrong here?

Turn off the native IO first ... see if that makes a dif.
Then turn off hotspot (or JIT) and see if that makes a dif.
Then call HP (if it's the JIT) or BEA (if it's the native IO).

  • Firefox 3.6.3 crashes randomly when used throught SUN Secure Global Desktop. I have a Solaris core dump. Is there a way to get the dump read?

Running FF 2.0.0.8 with Sun Secure Global Desktop - no issues. Upgraded to V3.6.2, then 3.6.3. Both upgrades failed. Browser randomly crashes at different times, different pages. FF works if directly ssh'ing into application sever. When accessing FF after loging in using SGD, I get random crashes. I have a Solaris core dump generated by FF. Is there anyone that can read/diagnos the core dump?

I have identified the issue and received a 'fix' from the
Oracle Secure Global Desktop support team.
The issue - firefox is crashing when attempting to talk to the sound server which is not active. All activity within the window works fine, except ff hangs the second you move the mouse in to the top level menu.
We disabled the audio under the SGD configuration and that ficed the issue.

Thing which made me think it was hardware is that after I download stuff (like leaveing PC d/ling over night) after a week or so I get a load of HD errors and random program will crash.
Believe that could be a totally different problem which I've got solved, also thought I'd fixed up the java issues with installing 1.5 but appears to have came back. However rather than IE giveing an error report to send to microsoft it either locks up or the window just closes and a hs_err_pid report is created on desktop (currently have 10 of them with different numbers), all of which are 99% the same, just with different numbers in some spots.
    Heres one:

    ====================================================
Have spent countless hours looking for fixes, seems a lot of people have similar looking problems, but the fixes for them either don't apply to me or they are just passed over to another discussion which has no resolve.
I'm not sure what to look for in Java database of bugs, if anyone can poke me towards a fix or some useful reading I'd be eternally greatful.
    Thanks.

  • Java crash with "Abort" message - why?

    Hello
I am working with jdk 1.4 , java swing, and graphics 2D
I am drawing a map with polygon objects.
I have a MouseMotionListener over the map, because each Polygon object represents a "Neighborhood" and when I roll over the area I want to highlight that neighborhood.
As I rollover the map, i also dynamically change the text value of two JLablels, so that they reflect the neighborhood name and the name of a restaurant that is located on the map.
Before I cchanged the value of teh restaurant name on the fly, my application quit randomly after rolling around the map for 30 seconds
Now that I change the restaurant name in addtion, application quits after 5 seconds of rolling over the Map.
The application crashes, and in System.out the JVM (NOT my app) writes out the word "Abort"
WHY?! what does this mean, how can i fix the problem?
attached at the bottom is the code for the painting and listening methods. Thanks
I will appreciate GREATLY ANY insight.
    thanks again
