Java Development Tools - jar Question

I have developed a application which i would like to be able to execute from a jar file (i.e. java -jar ... ).
Anyway my gui requires some image files which are in the archive. Its just that when i try to run the application from the archive, it doesnt look within itself for the images and therefore cant find (and wont display) the images unless they are present in the same directory as the archive.
Anyone have any ideas as to how i can get the archive to looke within itself for the images. thanks.

Here is a snippet from one of my programs,
I took a while to work out how to do it from a jar.
Andrew.
ImageIcon icon = null;
URL iconURL = null;
iconURL = ClassLoader.getSystemResource("comp202/fsa/vuw-logo-short.gif");
if (iconURL != null) {
icon = new ImageIcon(iconURL,"VUW Logo");

  • Java Development Tool (JavaOne)

    Hi,
I read on this site that Sun were going to announce a development tool for beginners to code in Java at the 2003 JavaOne conference. It is meant to be similar to VB IDEs to attract VB developers also and make it similar to MS IDEs.
Can anyone point to a download site where I can download this tool or any links for more info.
    Thanks,

  • Java development tool for optimalization of the code

I'm searching for a program, that would detect not used variables, methods, etc. in Java code. Can you help me to find such?

Why do you want a program to cover up poor program design?
The best solution to your problem is: don't declare variables you don't use, and don't write methods you don't use.
Additionally, you shouldn't copy and paste other code. If you must, read other people's code to get a good idea of how it works, then do it for yourself, if not just for the sake of keeping organized and not having any unused stuff.
As far as speed optimization goes (I know that's not what your question was about, but, for your information), you can compile with the -O option to take care of that. If you are worried about class file size, you can compile with the -g:none option to remove debugging information.

  • How Can I debug a Wle CORBA Server Program by JBuilder 5 Or other Java develop tool.

Finally, I find a way to solve this problem although I still can not make it work by using a servlet to invoke ipsadmin or AddComponent class. The easiest way to solve this question is to access Ldap directly. I used ipsadmin to add a new domain and role first and then checked all their attributes in the Ldap. I wrote a program to insert the domain and role entry with the same attributes as using ipsadmin and it works just fine. I really can just add domain and role entry even though there are no webtopdomain and webtoprole objectclasee in the schema.

  • Some basic questions on Java development and NetWeaver CE

    Hi there,
Can someone please explain for me:
    1. What are the development tools that will help me do Java development in SAP?
    2. Can I use non-SAP Java development tools (e.g. WebSphere or Eclipse) to develop custom extensions?  Are these equivalent to the functionality provided by CE?
    3. Given the options for doing Java development in SAP, are there any situations where I would need to do custom development in ABAP? (Is the Java functionality equivalent to the ABAP functionality?)
    4. Is NetWeaver CE only meant for Java development, or can it also be used for ABAP development?
    regards,
    Eric

    Hi
for Java development you can user Eclipse or NWDS , which are both and the same .
And about the ABAP development in CE 7.1 in the developer studio is it not possible .
you are allowed for the java development .  And about using Non-SAP java development tools
you can use the tools for java development , may the UI building ..... has to be build  when compared to
      CE 7.1  developer studio

  • Tools.jar for Java SE Embedded

    Hi all,
I believe Java SE "for Embedded" supports JVMTI,
but tools.jar is not found in any builds such as for ARM and x86.
Without that, the instrument or attach API defined in JVMTI
is not able to work on Java SE for Embedded.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I would guess that questions about embedded java would be ok here, questions about J2ME programming would be better suited for the "CLDC and MIDP" forum and Java SE questions would be better someplace here. But don't expect too much, there is not a lot of activity in the forum ...

    Hi,
The newest and default version of Eclipse is Galileo which is version 3.5.x
According to the Widget development guide, widget developer tool covers Eclipse 3.3.x (Europa) and 3.4.x  (Galileo).
The problem is solved by downloading one of those versions from http://wiki.eclipse.org/Older_Versions_Of_Eclipse and installing widget development tools.

  • SQL Developer tool question

    Hi Folks
I am using SQL Developer tool. I have a procedure with compilation errors so i can see that procedure with red X mark in SQL Developer tool.
When am clicking on the procedure it is going to the editor there i can see "code"."grants","dependencies","references","details","profiles".
But i can't able to see "Errors" tab in the editor. And main thing is i didnt see any red lines in the editor for the invalid procedure
And when i recompiled that procedure it got recompiled successfully and that red x mark is vanished.
Here my question is the "Errors" tab is only appears when the procedure/function/package has errors and surprisingly i didnt see any red lines in the editor for invalid procedure (may be my proc has no errors).
    Thanks

    Hello,
maybe your procedure has been invalidated by some DDL, e.g. a new column has been added to a table that is referenced in your procedure. The status will be INVALID until you recompile it or until you call the procedure, then it will be recompiled automatically.
(may be my proc has no errors).Very likely.
    Regards

  • Database access tool for Java Development

    Hi,
A couple of days back, our SAP's database (MSSQL) was corrupted and downed the Java Stack.
During the Java development, normally after a newly created table was deployed via Java Dictionary, Java developer will access the database via the MSSQL Enterprise Manager to view/delete/update data. Unlike the ABAP development, all database access was done via SE16 in SAPGUI. It was believed that the Java Development kind of direct access to the database via the MSSQL Enterprise Manager was causing some MSSQL tables to be corrupted, and thus downed the Java Stack.
    1. Is there any tool like SE16 to access database during the Java Development?
    2. If no, what kind of recommendation/tool to access database for Java Development?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
    julius

    Julius,
There are no industry recommended open source DB tools.
Normally it depends upon the developer preferences that how he/she wants to see the tool usability.
I can suggest you to go through the below link:
    http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=SQL+Tools
You can find many open source SQL tools, which you have to test and select one among them.
I can suggest you to use:
    1) TOra
    2) Easy SQL
    3) SQuirrel

  • Development tools for java

    HI,
I am new in java. i know there are tools like netbeans to develop java in Windows Mode in Linux. But i want to know is there any tools like netbeans for developing java which will work from terminal window of linux ( black screen) ??
Like TC3 , i used to use it to develop C++ from Dos mode.
like TC3 , is there any development tools that i can run from Black screen of linux ( Terminal service / Command prompt), because i like to use black screen of linux ( command prompt)
I will appreciate any help from any one.
    Kind regards
    Fosiul

I know vi and Jstar also work.
but problem is you cant compile in vi or jstar, u have to save , then have to quit then compile from command prompt. but netbeans - you can compile in same windows. or like Tc3 , you can compile by pressing f9( i think) ,
but jstar or vi does not give any options ,it just the text eidtor.
thats why i am asking , if any one know , any development tools which will work as a compiler and has graphics interface like TC3 for linux command prompt.

  • Java Developer Exam Questions

I got my JCP certification a while ago and have been debating if it is even worth it to go forth and get the Developer certification. A colleague of mine told me that certification exams for specific technologies are generally good only for contract work, not for full-time employees. He suggested rather than wasting my time and money on exams that I should take night classes and work towards a masters.
So this is really a two part question, first of all do you think it is worth the money and time? Secondly, what kind of project assignment could I expect to get if I sign up for it?

well certification in itself is a buzzword which
might be missing. No one expects a developer with 10 years of
experience to have a developer certification in the
CV. It might actually make the CV look odd /
suspicious. Why have a developer certification in
there if you already have lots of experience?
KajWell I have personally interviewed 10s of developers with 10 years of experience, but actually it turned out that they had 10 * 1year experience. Certifications are just a proff that you have worked on that technology as well. We are not talking about just java certifications. e.g. if I am hiring a java developer with 10 years of java experience who has an oracle certification as well, and I need somebody in the team to have a good understanding of databases it would be beneficial.
Or if the job requires some level of tibco experience, tibco certification would be good to have. Certifications just serve a hint that the applicant has some level of proficiency in the field he has been certified in. A j2ee enterprise architect certification might give one an idea that the applicant is familar with some practices in enterprise architecture. 10 years experience might not guarantee that, plus you might agree a lot of resumes you see these days of mid level developers, claim some kind of architectural exp., thought they might not even know of GoF patterns let alone Enterprise integration patterns. If I have two resumes in front of me with same amount of experience, one with a lot of certifications and the other just experience I would prefer the former, since atleast i know somebody has already done the pre screening for me.
I know what you are talking about, but I always encourage developers to go for certifications and not just java certifications,.
PS. I am not talking about entry level certifications only.

  • Stupid Java Development Question (JDK? XCode?)

I'm brand new to OS X, so forgive my noobness. I'm still getting used to OS X.
I'm doing this little Java tutorial. It says I need to download an install the Java JDK. As I understand it, Java is already built into OS X and I need to use XCode to create and compile Java programs instead of the JDK....where the heck is XCode?
If anyone knows, I could really use some help. Just finished going through the basics of how to make simple programs in Java but I don't know what to do! Lol. I feel so dumb. I kind of want to call Apple, but I think I'd feel to stupid. I think I have to download XCode? That's what I'm doing now. I had to sign up with the ADC. It's a big file though, 915MB, and it's probably going to take around an hour. I hope someone can tell me if I'm doing the right thing or not before then. I'm guessing I just download this and use this to write Java? How then do I compile? The tutorial is telling me to go to the command prompt and do:
    Code:
    javac filename.java
to compile the class and then,
    Code:
    java classname
    to execute.
I'm guessing that in OS X I'm going to use the terminal to accomplish this?
Any help would be appreciated. I feel really dumb right now. The tutorial only covers how to do this in Windows and Solaris.

    Hi Ralph
I'm doing this little Java tutorial. It says I need
to download an install the Java JDK. As I understand
it, Java is already built into OS X and I need to use
XCode to create and compile Java programs instead of
the JDK....where the heck is XCode?
Go to http://developer.apple.com/ and sign up for a free Apple Developer Connection account. Once you've logged in, go to Downloads and you'll be able to find the latest versions of Xcode and Java. When it comes to downloading Java, take care to choose the version which matches your hardware and version of OS X.
    [snip] It's a big file though, 915MB,
and it's probably going to take around an hour. I
hope someone can tell me if I'm doing the right thing
or not before then. I'm guessing I just download this
and use this to write Java? How then do I compile?
Yes - they're big files and you need to persevere with the downloads. Once you've got Xcode and Java installed, you can find some newby tutorials on my web page here:
    http://www.cems.uwe.ac.uk/~lrlang/javasoundmusic/index.html
You'll find the links to tutorials near the bottom of the page.
The tutorial is telling me to go to the command
    prompt and do:
    Code:
    javac filename.java
to compile the class and then,
    Code:
    java classname
    to execute.
I'm guessing that in OS X I'm going to use the
    terminal to accomplish this?
Yes. This technique works for any Unix system (including OS X), and I used to teach my students to work this way, but I no longer recommend it. As you guessed, you have to type in these commands into the Utilities/Terminal program. However, to be effective you also need to know a number of other Unix commands like "cd" "ls", "pwd" and a few more which you can find in any introductory book on Unix. You also need to use a text editor (such as TextEdit) to create your Java source files and then save them to the hard disk. While this technique will work, you won't get the syntax highlighting and colouring that is offered by the Xcode editor.
Any help would be appreciated. I feel really dumb
right now. The tutorial only covers how to do this
    in Windows and Solaris.
I think that if you follow my tutorials you will very quickly get up and running with Java development. I hope you enjoy working with Java as much as I do. You can always come back here if you need more help.
