Java, Flash and MIDI interface...

Hey all!
Im currently researching my final year project in college, im creating a program that teaches children musical notation through an attractive GUI and incorporates a MIDI device.
The GUI will be handled by Flash, but the MIDI keypresses will be handled by java (i dont think flash can handle MIDI input) does anyone know if flash and java will be able to interact?
For example, i hit a key on the keyboard, java handles in the keypress and tells Flash to highlight a virtual keyboard on the screen. Can this be done?

This isn't a Flash forum, so I think you'll be lucky to get Flash specific answers.
When you get these sort of horrible technical problems it's usually a "design problem". . In this case, the simple answer is to write the whole thing in Java.
If you don't know how to write the GUI in Java, then that's the question you should be posing.
Eg. You might take a digital photo above an actual musical keyboard.
Then display this in a java application. Work out the pixel coordinates of each and every key, and paint that key everytime someone presses it......

I have a company (+150 users) and I would like to allow users to update Java, FLASH and Adobe Reader only.
These software are already installed in the hosts, but there are updates of the program every week and it needs to be updated.
How can I give permissions to every user in the domain to do that? Just "Java, FLASH and Adobe Reader"
Remember that I dont want distribute software because they were installed.
I tried to enable "Enable user to patch evelated products" directive but it didn't work at my domain.

I have a method that works for FLASH player, but am trying to come up with a method for the other 2 myself. To automate flash player, I created a Policy and added the following:
Under Computer Config, Prefrences, Windows Setting, Files I created a new File Item.
I set Action = Replace, Created a Source File named mms.cfg* (more below) and have the destination file as systemroot%\System32\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg (or %systemroot%\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg for x64)
I used notepad to edit the mms.cfg, and used the following in the body:
AutoUpdateDisable=0
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
AutoUpdateInterval=0
My non-admin users now update flash in the background silently and automatically.

Java, Flash and Xml, not able to getParent of xml files

Hi,
I am using Java as a server, with a macromedia flash front end (using flash remoting to connect the two). I am loading in xml files in my java application, and i am having some problems when i run this from flash.
Whenever i use any getParent methods from the JDOM library on an Element variable i get an error sent back to my flash document.
But when i run my java code using NetBeans it is fine, the code runs fine and the getParent methods are called fine.
Is there somthing I need to know about the getParent methods which make them return exceptions ....
The error says the service threw an exception during method invocation: null
What does this mean, my method threw an exception in Java ???

Cheers for your interest. I think the problem is in the way in which I have mounted my JDOM.jar file. Currently I have just placed the JDOM.jar file into the lib folder on my JRun server.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to mount the JDOM.jar file properly

Satellite L40 139 and Midi interface

I have an Satellite L40-139 which includes a SoundMax sound card (somewhere inside) and I would like to be able to use it as the basis for a Midi Music recording set up but I cannot get the computer to recognize the Phonic Midi to USB interface that I have.
Does the SoundMax card accept Midi data and how do I go about getting it to recognize it?

I want to connect my midi keyboard To my L40 139 laptop and use a software sequencer to create music tracks.. Not a difficult think for a computer to do!
I have a Phonic USB-Midi interface which is just a bog standard interface, but when I link it via the usb port the laptop says it doesn't recognise it and fail to load it. The end result is that I am unable to use the keyboard to input any midi data into the sequencer.
You are right in the fact that I am using Windows Vista OS but I have not found any Midi interfaces for Vista as yet, but as Midi is designed to be universal (I thought) I would have expected something from it.

The question is, what it pays asking simple questions and get short answers. And if you do not know what J2SE, J2EE, JRE, SDK... are.. I do not believe, that you're really developing web applications in Java. And if I'm wrong it is much worse! That would meen someone's programming Java-applications without even knowing the basics!

Edirol Audio/Midi Interface and Yamaha Keyboard

Hi everybody,
I just got an Edirol Audio/Midi interface UA-20, installed correctly with latest drivers, garage band recognizes it. Now I want to connect my old Yamaha PSR SQ16 keyboard through it, but somehow it doesn't work. Can anybody please give me a guidance on how to connect it properly, maybe i'm too dumb for that...

I'm shure you must have already figured this out, becouse it's very simple thing to do, but I'll post my answer anyway, perhaps someone else has the same problem.
The Yamaha PSR SQ16 has a "MIDI OUT" plug, in the back of the sinthetizer. To connect with de UA20 Edirol, all you need to do is to get a midi cable (you can find it in every music store) and plug the Yamaha PSR SQ16 MIDI OUT to the Edirol UA20 MIDI IN.
And boy, that's it.
All the fantastic sounds and samples that cames with Garageband, are now triggerd through your Yamaha PSR SQ16.
Things to check: in the AUDIO MIDI UTILITY, be shure that the UA20 is set as de midi in out device.
In Preferences of Garageband, be shure to check that the UA20 is set as audio and midi interface.

FireWire Audio/MIDI interface suggestions

Hi there,
I'm looking to purchase a firewire external audio and MIDI interface but am having trouble finding what I need.
I only need stereo audio in and out (much like the Apogee Duet), as well as a MIDI interface. The interfaces I've seen around seem to have 14+ channels. As I already have a mixing desk they would all go to waste.
Basically the Duet would be ideal, only it doesn't have a MIDI interface. Does anyone know of any piece of hardware like this?
The other option would of course be to get the Duet and a seperate MIDI interface- but I'd prefer to have them both in one box if possible.

I continually get a Java error. I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and nothing has helped. I've updated flash and Java.

I have used Firefox as my default browser for many years. I've recently started getting a Java error message. It pops up continually. I have updated flash and java. Help Please. OS 10.5, Safari 5.0.6, Flash and Java

I am very frustrated right now. A few days ago, I upgraded my MacPro to OS 10.5 . Everything seemed to be working fine until all of a sudden a fe days ago.
Now Flash and Java don't work.
I get an error message saying missing plug-in. So I went to the adobe page to download the latest version. The only thing that would happen on that page is the banner in the middle frame disappeared and nothing would download using Safari. I opened Firefox and it was able to download it. I ran the uninstaller, then installed the newests version, 10.??? (Newest on allowed on my computer)
I rebooted the computer to be safe and opened Safari and still no flash, same message. It works fine in Firefox and Seamonkey, just not safari. I checked for plug-ins and it doesn't show up.   It IS in the OS preference, but there is nothing I can see to do.
Flash makes way to many things work to just ignore it. Please help.
I have repeated this step more than once to no avail.
Secondly, Java. Java is not installed anymore. It WAS and I was having a problem with the window opening and staying open. I adjusted a setting not to open the window, then it stopped completely.   I backtracked and undid the do not open window and still doesn't work.
I found a Java testing page and this is what I was given - "The page “Java Tester - Is Java Enabled?” attempted to load Java content, but Java is unavailable or not installed."
I am now downloading Java again from the apple page, 1.6.0_33. However, one poster said not to use it at all. It's difficult to do many things with no Java at all.
Please advise.

Now, follow my standard upgrading advice:
Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:

Logic 7.1.1 and MIDEX8 USB MIDI Interface

Anyone had experience using the Yamaha/Steinberg MIDEX8 USB MIDI Interface with Logic? I've just moved from the PC to Logic on the Mac and since I already own the MIDEX8 I wanted to check first to see that it worked well with Logic before trying to install it. I was advised by the store who sold me the Mac that this would work OK, but was also was advised to get the M-Audio MIDISport 8x8USB as a better choice.

By interface, I assume you mean the connection between the ABAP and the Java stacks in a double stack system.
The connection from Java to ABAP is through JCo connections defined in the WebDynpro section of the J2EE start page. So Java to ABAP requests are processed through JCo.
The connection from ABAP to Java is through RFC connections defined in TA SM59. The ABAP to Java requests are processed through RFC.

We have Collections.sort() method and we can sort any list by this method without implementing comparable or comparator interface.Then my question is when we need to implement comparable or comparator interface or when do we write our own compareTo() or compare() methods.

No Apple response??? Redplum/Valassis will not help either. I searched, using the cups error message and though it is Unbuntu, same error so maybe useful...only problem: details would not display unless I join Unbuntu forum. What a pain to do anything with my Mac or find any help. I honestly regret buying this buggy OS.

As the old saying goes: when in doubt, consult the manual. The problem appears to be that I added the printer using the KDE Add Printer Wizard. It was automatically given a "socket" URI instead of an "lpd" one. When I:
- altered the printer settings at http://localhost:631 (the CUPS admin page) as instructed in the manual for the printer, and
- copied the PPD file into a second place on the hard drive (as instructed on ubunutuforums, see the link above)
..everything started working.
It's still slower than windows, but I can live with that
Probably a simple fix. Change the socket I.P. to match the printer I.P. like this:
socket://192.168.1.86:9100. The thing I'm concerned with using socket:// is that AFAIK the printer I.P. must not change. In my case I'm able to assign a static I.P. address to the printer but it's something to consider.
I found that the only thing I needed to do was change socket to lpd (and remove :9100 off the end as well). See Solving Ubuntu printer broken pipe problem (DocuPrint C525A) . BTW thanks for steering me in the right direction - very grateful.

Are you having a problem with your printer under the latest versions of Ubuntu (perhaps it worked under an older version)? Are you able to print short documents, but not longer, or more graphics-intensive, documents? (e.g. the unfortunate people at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=625493). Do they sit there as Processing for ages and then switch to Held? If you have the same problem I had the solution I tried may work for you too. Firstly, check your cups error log:
sudo gedit /var/log/cups/error_log
If you see anything like the following, the solution may be simple:
[Job 201] Unable to write print data: Broken pipe
PID 13359 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/socket) stopped with status 1!
System > Administration > Printing and right click on your printer, selecting Properties. Settings > Device URI
If you see something like socket://your_printer_ip_address:9100 just change socket to lpd and remove the :9100 off the end. Then click on apply.
Apparently lpd is a more modern protocol which works with most printers whereas socket is more raw (and potentially faster but riskier in a network situation). Somewhere along the line, the default Ubuntu/Gnome setup for networked printers shifted from lpd to socket. Some primitive printers will have benefited whereas a larger number of more modern printers will have suffered.
Please correct me if I am wrong (which is highly possible) but the underlying problem could be that socket may make the printer wait a long time for a large file to be processed ready for printing. Some printers, such as the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint C525A, may drop the socket if things take too long to start coming through.
Changing timeout settings might work but lpd is better than socket so it is the preferred solution in any case.
If this works for you, please leave a comment to let others know (ideally with a description of the printer and Ubuntu version). Printer may be relevant if it doesn’t support the direct stream protocol properly. NB I may take a while to let your comment through because of the volume of spam. Sorry about that.

IE10 blocks local files with flash and java content

Hello,
we have imported the Microsoft Security Compliance Policys for IE10.
Now we have unfortunately
found that, IE is blocking content on the for the "local computer".
We have installed some software which calls a index.html with some flash and java content, but nothing gets displayed. We`ve already enabled the setting "active content to run in files on my computer", but that doesnt help.
I have copied the files on a file server which is member in the local intranet sites, an there everything is working perfect. My question is, how can I find out which setting is causing that?
Hope somebody have a clue.
