JAVA Information

Question

I am a High School teacher teaching JAVA next year. I need to purchase text books and a platform. We are running Windows NT 2000 and I am wondering what is the best way to go with all of this. We are currently using Borland's C++ Builder, but I don't really like it's complexity. I need something simple and sweet for my students to learn concepts with. We have to migrate to JAVA by next year due to AP testing requirements.

Here's my recomendation
1)
Evaluate Borland JBuilder 7 (soon to be 8)

When you use an IDE with teatching im mind - always try to get a text box
which has references to your spesific dev tool.
Try out Deitel & Deitel 'How to program 4th edition' in conjunction with the JBuilder IDE

You May want to consider to start the first couple of lections witout the IDE
and just using Notepad, to make sure your students learn how to compile - Run -Profile -Debug AND AND AND GET THE CONSEPT OF CLASSPATH - AND LEAN HOW TO SET IT
