Java.io.IOException: Permission denied

Hi All,
Having a bit of trouble out of a school project. I need to save information to an XML file and read from it and put those values into fields. Writing to the file is no big deal, however I get a Permission Denied error when I attempt to read the data back in. My code is attached:
private boolean readFile(String filename) throws IOException{
try {
XPathFactory factory=XPathFactory.newInstance();
XPath xPath=factory.newXPath();
//File xmlDocument = new File(filename);
System.out.println("Here");
FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(filename);
System.out.println("Here2");
InputSource inputSource=new InputSource(in);
System.out.println("Here3");
String xmlShape = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Shape",inputSource);
String xmlLength = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Length",inputSource);
String xmlWidth = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Width",inputSource);
String xmlAvgDepth = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Average_Depth",inputSource);
String xmlVolume = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Volume",inputSource);
String xmlCustName = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Customer_Name",inputSource);
String xmlAddress1 = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Address1",inputSource);
String xmlAddress2 = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Address2",inputSource);
String xmlCity = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/City",inputSource);
String xmlState = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/State",inputSource);
String xmlZip = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Zip",inputSource);
String xmlPhone = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Phone",inputSource);
String xmlEmail = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Email",inputSource);
String xmlSalesPerson = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Sales_Person",inputSource);
String xmlOrderNo = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Order_No",inputSource);
String xmlDate = xPath.evaluate("/Volume_Calculator/Date",inputSource);
txtLength.setText(xmlLength);
txtWidth.setText(xmlWidth);
txtAvgDepth.setText(xmlAvgDepth);
txtVolume.setText(xmlVolume);
txtCustName.setText(xmlCustName);
txtAddress1.setText(xmlAddress1);
txtAddress2.setText(xmlAddress2);
txtCity.setText(xmlCity);
txtZip.setText(xmlZip);
txtPhone.setText(xmlPhone);
txtEmail.setText(xmlEmail);
txtSalesPerson.setText(xmlSalesPerson);
txtOrderno.setText(xmlOrderNo);
txtOrderDate.setText(xmlDate);
in.close();
catch (Throwable t) {
t.printStackTrace ();
return true;
My XML document is flat with no repeating nodes.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

    We assume that the error was with the creation of the new file. We need to check if its filesystem has proper permissions. Please advise on the fix for the permission error and also any inputs on where this file is created.

    This can also occur if your $DOMAIN_HOME/osb/config/core/_binary/_jars path and the files it contains are owned by root, which can happen if you have accidentally started the server as root once.
    The easiest way however to find the root cause (on Linux) is:
    cd $DOMAIN_HOME
    find . -user root > /tmp/ownedByRoot
    And then check the file /tmp/ownedByRoot for any hits. Finally change the file permissions using the chown command, so they get owned by the user running WebLogic.
    My experience is that you don't need to restart the OSB server after this change. Activating the OSB import worked immediately after I chown'ed that dir.

  • Sometimes: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission denied

    Hello,
    we are using a lot of signed applets in our Web application (used web server: JBoss 5.1).
    For example we use an applet in javascript code and call some of applet's methods. The called java methods are privileged code.
    Since Update to JRE 1.6.0_24 we are getting sometimes:
    Permission denied: null
    java.lang.SecurityException: Permission denied: null
         at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager$AppletExecutionRunnable.run(Unknown Source)
         at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

    Test.jar is signed. Most of the time Test.jar can be found. The problem seems to appear in case of new JVM (and new java console).
    We arent't operating on the local file system.
    Are there any ideas, known problems?
    Thanks in advance.

    We've encountered the same problem

    But seems to me, that the issue is related to combination of Java6 update 24 and Firefox 3.6.14. We tested on two stations, first FF3.6.14, java6u24, second FF3.6.14, java6u23. On the first station we got exception, but on the second java works fine. After reinstaling java on the first stations to verstion 6u23, everything works fine.

    I filed a bug for this yesterday:

  • Getting java.io.IOException when trying to run a report in BIP 11g

    Hi everyone.
    I have deployed BIP 11g (11.1.1.6.0), with no errors, and everything worked fine.
    Suddenly, when I tried to execute a report (html output), I got following error: "java.io.IOException: Permission denied".
    I wonder if you can list me possible causes of this issue.

    Hi Adhir,
    I ran the standalone webservice client on the unix machine and it gives me web service response.
    Is there some weblgic configuration parameter I should be looking into to see why I am not getting the response when I am calling the web service from the deployed code.

  • Unable to activate session in OSB. Permission denied.

    Hi,
    I was able to successfully import my jar file. But when I activate the session, I got this error on sbconsole:

    I'm sure that I did not install OSB as root user. I also followed some advices from this thread: Re: Failed to activate session in OSB: java.io.IOException: Permission denied but still cannot fix the problem.

    Hi,
    Try step 1 first.
    1) Make sure that your user has access to write in the tmp folder (probably /tmp). If you want OSB to write to a different OSB/Weblogic tmp location, you can specify the following parameter in the server argument list:
    -Djava.io.tmpdir=/yourfolder
    2) Make sure that the user you are using to start OSB has ownership over all files under your domain.
    - Login with your user in a shell session
    - Change the directory to your domain
    - chown -R <YOURUSER> *
    Make sure you don't get any exception
    Regards,
    Fabio.

  • SocketException: permission denied: connect

    Thanks in advance for your help, I am determined to find out why Java applets won't run in IE 7 but will run in FF on this one PC!
    I have done all the complete Java uninstall/reinstall directions
    I have turned off spyware checking, firewall, antivirus software
    Frankly I doubt it is that, as FF runs fine.
    When I run one of the test applets on the Internet, JRE comes up in the system tray, the Java logo appears in the applet box, then it says error. When I check the error console, it says:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaVersionDisplayApplet.class
    caused by:
    java.net.SocketException: Permission denied: connect
    Java is configured to use browser settings, IE automatically detects settings. It sure seems something is preventing the socket connect.
    How can I find out what is causing this?

    Thanks, but these links seem to all discuss issues with code you have written having proper permissions, certificates, etc. I have installed JRE on a computer, run IE, and get this error.The name of these forums is "Developer Forums" - it is expectable that an answer assumes
    you have problems with something you are developing.

    [Is this an older Windows? - Before MS stopped pushing their own JVM]
    Is this what is necessary to get Java working in a browser? There are 100s of links talking about applet security, none of it seemed to be relevant to my problem although I may have missed something....Assuming you do not have any user policy files;
    does the system policy file java.home\lib\security\java.policy
    say anything about SocketPermissions?

    Port 80 is not being used by the IP. Am quite lost at the moment on how to troubleshoot this problem.
    Appreciate any advice offered. Thanks in advance.

    There's not much benefit to having 2 instances on the same machines vs having one instance on that machine. Putting a load balancer in front of a machine with 2 hosts only helps you when you lose a mgd server - but not when you lose an entire machine ( since both mgd servers go away too )
    Consider:
    Mgd Server A on machine myHost1 with java memory 512m/512m
    Mgd Server B on machine myHost1 with java memory512m/512m
    vs
    Mgd Server A on machine myHost1 with java memory 1024m/1024m
    vs
    Mgd Server A on machine myHost1 with java memory1024m/1024m
    Mgd Server B on machine myHost2 with java memory 1024m/1024m
    The first config is your current situation. Your two mgd servers are fighting each other for processing time & memory on that machine. They can't use the same ports, so how does a user decide which port to use when they access your application?
    The second config combines their resources into one mgd server
    The third gives you load balancing ability - you can survive the loss of a machine. Also note that since the 2 instances are on DIFFERENT machines, they CAN use the same non-SSL and SSL ports.

  • /usr/bin/java Permission denied after installing JDK on linux

    Hi Guys,
    I installed jdk-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin and I am getting strange errors like this:
    1 When I simply run "java" in shell I get this:
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Permission denied
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Success
    2. When I try to run an sh file I get this:
    Warning: -ms128m not understood. Ignoring.
    Warning: -mx128m not understood. Ignoring.
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Permission denied
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Success
    I searched around and as I understand the linux package may have contained some older java version, and the comp is still trying to use that.
    But these notes did not say how to uninstall that older version, orr what to do.
    Can you please maybe point me somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Gyuri

    The RPM installer for the Sun JDK installs Java in /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01. Just add /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01/bin to your path before /usr/bin and it should be fine.
    Additionally, there are no -ms and -mx parameters, those should be -Xms and -Xmx.

  • Permission denied when I execute a unix command from within my java applet.

    Hi Gang,
    Forgive me if this is not the appropriate forum for this problem. I'm posting this problem on this forum since I got no answers on the other forum I posted on.
    I've written a simple java applet that runs a unix command and then displays some information. The applet compiles fine, and runs perfectly from the command line on my unix system.
    However, when I point a browser at the applet from my desktop PC I get the following error as taken from the java console:
    Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-2" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission <<ALL FILES>> execute)
    This is of course the first line in a long line of error messages. It appears that I am not able to execute a command on the unix system through my applet. I know the problem is with trying to execute a unix command since commenting it causes no error in the web browser. This is the command I'm using in java to execute the unix command:
    p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("ps");
    Here's the html file on the unix system:
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <appletcode=G.class height="250" width="400">
    Your browser does not support the applet tag.
    </applet>
    </body>
    </html>
    I won't list the java code since it is compiling and working on the command line. But, if you want to see it I'll provide it.
    I've done quite a bit of research on this and it seems that a great number of people have similar problems reading or executing files through java. I have yet to find a solution to this problem.
    Here are some details about my setup:
    Server:
    HP9000 running HP/UX 11.23
    Apache Web Server 2.0.35
    Java 1.5
    Desktop PC:
    Win2K Pro
    Internet Explorer 6
    Java 1.6
    If you have a solution I would be very grateful! This problem is keeping me from writing my application!
    thanks!

    Hello!
    You can see more information about os command using the file adapter in SAP note:
    #841704 - XI File & JDBC Adapter: Operating system command
    o  The command line of an operating system command run through the
       File and JDBC Adapter is interpreted slightly different compared
       to common operating system shells. E.g. quotes and apostrophes
       are handled differently. If in doubt, check if the command can be
       successfully run through the Java Runtime.exec(...) API. Also
       note that the command is run as user "<sid>adm" (Unix) /
       "SAPService<SID>" (Windows).
       Under Windows, this especially means that you cannot use any
       shell commands interpreted by teh command processor (such as
       "copy", "ren" or "del") using the operating system command.
    Best regards,
    Franklin

  • Permission Denied error generating XML file

    We’re using ODI to write out files to a Windows CIFS file system through an agent installed on the ODI Unix server. In order to do this, we had to create the agent using a user ID that had permission to write to the Windows file system. For writing out flat files, this worked great; we have no problems at all.
    However, for writing out XML files to the file system, we’re getting an error that says Permission Denied. We do NOT get the error if we write the XML to a Unix directory, only if we attempt to write it to the CIFS file system. I have two questions:
    1.     Is ODI able to execute against a Windows CIFS file system from UNIX to generate XML files?
    2.     If so, is there a list of permissions required on the fileshare that the ODI needs to generate the XML?
    Below is the exact error we’re getting:
    0 : null : java.sql.SQLException: Could not save the file /mdm_conversion/TST/2.lsm because a class java.io.IOException occurred and said: Permission denied
    Has anyone ever performed something like this or encountered a similar problem?

    Hi,
    I found the issue and corrected it. :)
    This was happened only because of the Version problem of Report Builder with Oracle Applications.
    Reports Builder 10g is not compatiblie with Oracle Applications 11.5.10.
    Oracle 11.5+ will always expect the RDF from Reports 6i version. Because of this, the endocing was damaged.
    You can observe in the earlier post as encoding="&Endoding". Here +&Encoding should be replaced by some encoding mechanism like "UTF-8".+
    Finally corrected the version and got the Output as expected.
    Thanks !

    Credit goes to http://brajeshwar.com/2005/file-access-denied-on-windows-xp-and-how-to-take-ownership/
    For my windows XP solution. Basically the cwallet.sso file was not controllable via the XP user I was logged in as. Added the XP user to have full access to the file
    Here are the steps in quickie mode
    1.Log on to the computer with an account that has administrative credentials. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has Administrative rights to have access to the Security tab.
    2.If you are using Windows XP Professional, you must disable Simple File Sharing.
    3.Right-click the folder/file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
    4.Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
    5.Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
    6.In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of that folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
    7.Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
    You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folderName. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
    All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.
    8.Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.
