Java Location API,  Siemens SK65,  Irish network operators

Hi,
I'm a senior java developer, just starting to experiment with J2ME.
I wrote a real simple Midlet to request my location from the Java Location API.
It runs in the emulator (Eclipse, WTK 2.3) but hangs on my Siemens SK65 phone, which supports JSR 179 ( the java location api ).
Anyone got any experience of the Java Location API.
I've a couple of suspects...
a) that the Irish phone network ( O2 ) doesn't support location based
services. I previously tried listening for nearby cell broadcasts, but O2
don't seem to send them out.
b) that the phone needs GPRS and/or bluetooth settings enabled (tried both)
This isn't urgent, simply experimenting, but if anyone has any information to point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated.
regards,
Owen

Cheers deepspace,
I'll do some research into "AGPS".
Failing that, I've seen an application "PlaceLabs" which looks interesting, and seems to triangulate your position based on Cell ids.
duke dollars on their way :-)
regards,
Owen

  • Java Location API

    Does anybody know if JSR 179 has been implemented on the iPhone, and if so, it is accessible to 3rd party applications or web applications?

    It has not. The iPhone does not support full Java, only Javascript.

  • DOS 11g SOA have the Locator API's - How to Invoke a BPEL process from Java

    In BPEL 10.1.3.1, a java client could use the "Locator" API's to look up a BPEL service and invoke it directly from Java,
    Is that still present in SOA 11g ? Or is there another way to look up the BPEL process ...
    Here's an example of the 10g BPEL Service locator facilities :
    Get the BPEL service locator. This is retrieved as follows:
    loc = new Locator(domain, domainPassword);
    The initial installation BPEL domain is "domain" and the initial password is "bpel". We then use the locator to get the delivery service. We could also use the locator to retrieve the workflow service.
    IDeliveryService svc = (IDeliveryService)loc.lookupService(IDeliveryService.SERVICE_NAME);
    Now we have the delivery service we can "deliver" requests to the BPEL process. To do this we first need to create a new message.
    NormalizedMessage msg = new NormalizedMessage();
    String content = "<SyncHelloWorldProcessRequest xmlns=\"http://antony.blog/SyncHelloWorld\">"+
    "<input>"+
    name+
    "</input>"+
    "</SyncHelloWorldProcessRequest>";
    msg.addPart(msgPart, content);

    Eric, when I select the BPEL wsdl file in "Create Web Service Data Control" wizard, immediately I am getting the error. When I click 'OK', the 'Service' dropdown is disabled and blank in the wizard.
    Thanks for pointing to the sample application URL. But it is built in jdev 10g. Can I migrate it to 11g?

  • Siemens XT65 - Mistake in Location-API?

    I've written a program that creates a LocationProvider which then provides a Location object. If this object is valid, I use the getTimestamp() method to get the time. The time should be in milliseconds. However it isn't. The time I get is in microseconds.
    Could someone who has a XT65 (or XT75) please test this on their XT65 and see if this is Siemens' mistake or mine?
    Edited by: EvilBro on Oct 11, 2007 1:07 AM

    Many thanks. Yes, I had the same idea. After contacting them I got the information that they don't support Location API. I think background is, that they prefer to launch their own location based services instead supporting developers for their applications. Its a shame.

  • Java Communications API and Java SDK 1.4.2

    I just installed the Java Communications API 2.0 on my Windows XP system, with JDK 1.4.2. As per the install instructions, I copied files from the zip into my /lib and /bin directories and set the classpath. However, when I attempt to compile any of the samples, the compiler displays a large number of errors. I know the API documentation only references JDK1.2 -- are there any special tricks to installing on newer JDKs, or will I need to acquire an older JDK to develop?

    My path variable is still not being set! Here is the content of my autoexec.bat located on the root directory of C:\
    rem - By Groove Setup
    PATH=%PATH%;"C:\Program Files\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin"
    PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRAM FILES\J2SDK1.4.2_07\BIN
    /code]
    When I type 'path' at the MSDOS C:\ prompt, I receive the following in the get the following:C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;\C:\PROGRAM FILES\GROOVE NETWORKS\GROOVE\BIN
    As an aside, I noticed that when I perform a search of the my hard drive (c:\), I find two autoexec.bat files. One at the root, and the other in C:\Windows\Command\EBD.
    I believe the instructions stated to modify the autoexec.bat at the root directory.
    TIA for any assistance. This is really becoming a nusance and taking up quite a bit of my time trying to resolve this problem.

  • Performance issue with Business Objects Java JRC API in CRXI R2 version

    A report is developed using java JRC API in CR XI release 2. When I generate the report in the designer, it took less than 5 seconds to display the results in crystal report viewer inside the designer. But in the QA environment, when I generate the same report from the application, it takes almost 1 to 1.5 minutes to display the same results in PDF. I also noticed that if the dataset contains bigger volume of data, then the reports are taking even longer almost 15 to 20 minutes.
    While generating the report from the application, I noticed that most of time is taken during the execution of the com.crystaldecisions.report.web.viewer.ReportExportControl Object method as shown in following line of code
    exportControl.processHttpRequest(request, response, context, null)
    We thought the delay in exporting the report to PDF might be the layout of the report and data conversion to PDF for such a bigger volume of data.
    Then we investigated the issue and experimented quickly to generate the same report with same result set data from the application using XML, XSL and converted the output XSL-FO to PDF using Apache FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) implementation. The time taken to export the report to PDF is less than 6 seconds. By doing this experiment, it is proved that the issue is not with conversion of data to PDF but it is the performance problem with Business Objects Java JRC API in CR XI R2.
    In this regard, I searched for the above issue in the SAP community Network Forums -> Crystal Reports and Xcelsius -> Java Development -> Crystal Reports. But I did not find any answers or solutions for this kind of issue in the forums.
    Any suggestion, hint in this matter is very much appreciated.

    Ted, The setReportAppServer problem is resolved. Now I could able to generate the report with hardcoded values in the SQLs in just 6 seconds where as the same report was generated in CRXI R2 in 1 minute 15 seconds as mentioned in the earlier message.
    But, our exisiting application passes the parameter values to the SQLs embedded in the report. For some reason the parameters are not being passed to the report and the report displays only the labels without data.
    As per the crj 12 samples codes, the code is written as shown below.
    1. Created ReportClient Document
    2. SetReportAppServer
    3. Open the report
    4. Getting DatabaseController and switching the database connection at runtime
    5. Then setting the parameters as detailed below
    ParameteFields parameterFieldController = reportClientDoc.getDataDefController().getParameterFieldController();
    parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramvalue);
    parameterFieldController.setCurrentValue("", "paramname",paramavalue);
    byteArrayInputStream = (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    6. Streaming the report to the browser
    Why the parematers are not being passed to the report?  Do I need to follow the order of setting these parameters?  Did I miss any line of code for setting Params using  crj 12?
    Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to use Landmark & LandmarkStore classes in Location API

    hi
    i have some problem to use Landmark & landmarkStore classes in location api . any one give source link to use these calsses.

    1) why not simply create two different timer objects, one for one image, the other for the other. I would caution you that you may wish to limit the area of your repaint so as not to slow down your app repainting everything when you only need to repaint the area around your sprites.
    [http://www.java-forums.org/awt-swing/14590-how-use-multiple-timer-classes-swings.html]
    2) Please note that cross-posting can frustrate anyone who tries to help you only to find out later that the same answer was given hours ago in a cross-posted thread. No one likes wasting their time, especially a volunteer. The polite thing to do would be to not do this, but if you feel that you absolutely must, to at least provide links in both cross-posts to each other.

  • Oracle BPEL Java Client API: Reading Configurations dynamically

    We have a requirement to use Oracle BPEL Java client API to control the BPEL instances at the runtime, from an ADF BC Application. is there any possibility to read the configurations/properties that are required to look up (using 'oracle.soa.management.facade.Locator' ) the BPEL Process Manager/Server from connections.xml/adf-config.xml ?
    In other terms, as we need the details like the bpel server URL, security credentials..etc to lookup the BPEL server and instances using the BPEL java client API, how can we read these details from the ADF standard config files like Connections.xml/adf-config.xml instead of hard coding them in the Java program.

  • Java Preferences api jndi / jdbc implementations?

    We have a requirement to save users gui layout preferences (swing client) in a central location (through a j2ee ejb container). the users should be allowed to log into any company workstation, and have the gui client come up with the users preferences restored.
    does anyone know of commercial or open source implementations of the java preferences api that might accomplish this? (hoping not to re-invent...)
    Thanks
    Joe e.

    I am sure this is not a difficult thing to implement, you might actually spend more time looking for open source implementations rather than do it on your own. I am sure you want to save things like window/frame positions, size, colours, look and feel etc. You can simply save this information in a property file/object. Just any idea...

  • Porting location api to own device

    Hello,
    I am currently looking into the possibilities of porting the j2me location api (jsr 179) on my own device. So far I found out, that I have to port the cldc reference implementation first, to have a VM that runs on my device. But now I am not sure how to continue. Is there any example sourcecode available how the api works, or do I have to implement it on my own, specifially for my device? If I do have to program it myself, would I do that in C and add it to the CLDC sources, or would I do that in java as a library?
    Thanks in advance

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the conn

    Hello all!
    First of all, I want to say I read all the answers to this problem that were posted in the past in this forum.
    I try to connect from the intranet to an Oracle database, named bc01. The string I use is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.199.11:1521:bc01". On the 192.168.199.11 machine the listener and oracleservice services are started. The bc01 is correctly added to tnsnames.ora. If I issue a tnsping80 192.168.199.11 from the console it works. However, if I issue the same command from my workstation, it doesn't work (says No listener). So what am I missing here?
    Any help is much appreciated !
    Thank you very much!

    Faizan,
    Normally this error is reported when the database is either not available or the URL is invalid. Please check the URL whether you have a valid DB connection there.
    Also I see the getConnection missing e,g.

    I am using EWS 1.2 Java client API for getting calendar events. I am able to get Recurring information of the event which is created through API's
    appointment.save(), but not able to get recurring information of the event created in OWA interface, I get following error during the bind:

    This happens if I use: Appointment.bindToRecurringMaster or Item.bind(service, id, appointmentProps) or findAppointments().
    Works fine for events which doesn't have recurring. Only issue with events containing recurrence created through OWA. These are the propertySet:
    new PropertySet(BasePropertySet.IdOnly,
                                    ItemSchema.Subject,
                                    AppointmentSchema.AppointmentType,

                                    AppointmentSchema.FirstOccurrence,
                                    AppointmentSchema.LastOccurrence,
                                    AppointmentSchema.IsRecurring,
                                    AppointmentSchema.Location,
                                    AppointmentSchema.ModifiedOccurrences,

                                    AppointmentSchema.Start,
                                    AppointmentSchema.End);
    If I remove Recurrence it gives the response.
    Thanks.
    I am also facing the same problem.. If anyone can help, it would be helpful. I can see the response xml has the data, but while parsing the xml the error is generated in getResponseCode() in HttpClientWebRequest
