Java Module in EAR results in DeploymentException

I'm trying to deploy an ear containing ejb jar files, third-party jar files,
and war files and I get the following error:
<Oct 17, 2001 3:41:53 PM GMT-08:00> <Error> <Management> <Error initializing
module log4j.jar of application mydomain:Name=frontier-1,Type=Application
from path ./config/mydomain/applications/frontier.ear:
weblogic.management.DeploymentException: unknown module type:
weblogic.j2ee.dd.JavaModuleDescriptor>
The dtd for the application xml document as described here
http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/programming/app_xml.html#1010332 says that
a module may have a java element, however the exception message above seems
to indicate it it not supported?
Help please!

After opening a support case with BEA, I found out that the recommended way
to resolve class loader dependencies is to use the "Class-Path" attribute in
the archive's manifest file. Also the classloaders are supposed to resolve
dependencies uniquely and cumulatively. That is to say if I had 3 jar files
(A,B,C), two with log4j.jar as values for the Class-Path manifest attribute
and dependencies amongst all three as shown below, the resulting classpath
would be :
B.jar : log4j.jar : C.jar : A.jar
A's manifest:
Class-Path: B.jar log4j.jar
B's manifest:
Class-Path: C.jar
C's manifest:
Class-Path: A.jar log4j.jar
More info about the manifest and how extensions work is available here
(http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jar/basics/manifest.html#download).
Hope this helps!

  • Share persistence.xml file between two EJB modules in EAR

    Hello, everybody!
    First of all, I would like to say that I already posted this question in another forum:
    [http://community.jboss.org/thread/154128?tstart=0]
    But as I haven't got any answer from there and this issue is very crucial to me I'm posting it here too in the hope that I get an answer. So, here it goes:
    I have two EJB modules in an EAR module. I would like to know how to share a single persistence.xml file with these two EJB modules. If I replicate the persistence.xml file in the two EJB modules, the EAR project deploys ok, but of course that's not what we want. If I remove the persistence.xml file from any of the EJB projects, the EAR doesn't deploy properly. I'm stuck with this. I've already tried many kind of configurations but none worked. I really would like to have some help with this issue to proceed working. This is my EAR structure:
    solicitacoes-ejb.jar       (EJB session beans)
    solicitacoes-dao.jar       (EJB interfaces)
    solicitacoes-dao-jpa.jar   (EJB session beans)
    solicitacoes-ejbClient.jar (entities and EJB interfaces)
    solicitacoes-web.war
    META-INF/This is my application.xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <application
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/application_5.xsd"
    version="5">
        <display-name>solicitacoes-ear</display-name>
        <module>
            <ejb>solicitacoes-ejb.jar</ejb>
        </module>
        <module>
            <ejb>solicitacoes-dao-jpa.jar</ejb>
        </module>
        <module>

                <web-uri>solicitacoes-web.war</web-uri>
                <context-root>solicitacoes</context-root>
            </web>
        </module>
    </application>If I remove the persistence.xml file from one of the EJB modules, let's say solicitacoes-dao-jpa.jar, I get this error when deploying the EAR file:

    ... 43 moreI need help with this issue. As you could see, the EJB container doesn't like to see an EJB module without a persistence.xml file. This is clearly a dumb decision though. I agree with it if there was only one EJB module in an EAR. But the container should have been smart enough to require only one persistence.xml file in an EAR module with more than one EJB module, and share that persistece context with the whole EAR.
    Acting the way it is acting now, the container forces us to duplicate the persistece.xml file and kill our application modularity. This is clearly wrong. I've already tried to put the entity classes and persistence.xml file in the lib directory of the EAR, but it didn't work either. The container needs to have the persistence.xml file in both EJB modules.
    I don't know if this is a JBoss implementation decision or if it comes from the Java EE 6 specification. Whatever it is, it goes against all good modular and good design decision. Please if some of you know how to solve this, took a little time to tell me how. I would be very grateful.
    Thank you in advance.
    Marcos

    Dear Mr. gimbal2,
    In another occasion I would not reply to such a 'helpful' answer like the one you gave me (yes, it is undoubtedly an answer because that's how you classified it in the beginning of your reply), but as today I have plenty of time here in my job, for this week we're not working full time as usual, I decided to reply to it.
    You have to completely overhaul your attitude.I really didn't know I was taking so personal on this issue to have to 'completely overhaul my attitude'. Thank you for pointing that out.
    In stead of calling the technology dumb, admit to yourself that perhaps you don't understand it properly and that your ideas of what is correct design perhaps is a little lacking. I didn't call the technology dumb because I stated very clearly that I don't know for sure if it is working this way. I said in the last paragraph:
    +"I don't know if this is a JBoss implementation decision or if it comes from the Java EE 6 specification. Whatever it is, it goes against all good modular and good design decision."+
    So, I let implicit the fact that the technology or the implementation of the technology is dumb only if it doesn't allow this possibility. Regarding the fact that your said that I should
    admit to myself that perhaps I don't understand it properly, where did I stated in my question that I understand it completely? It's clear in the last paragraph that I don't. If I'm asking that's because I have doubts. Maybe my ideas of what is correct is wrong, and that's why I'm here in this forum. But everyone with a good sense knows that what I propose in this discussion is by no means a wrong design decision. Where is it a sin to have more than one EJB module in a EAR and a persisntece.xml file shared for the whole EAR? Does everyone that has more than one EJB module in an EAR module need to connect to more than one database? Is it wrong to want to have your DAO implementation in a separate EJB module in order to make deployment easy and also changes, if you later want to replace that implementation with another one without affecting
    the other modules? I don't think that a design decision that seeks this is lacking. I don't think that Java EE today is a dumb technoloby, but everyone knows that before it gets to the present level, it was a technology known to have made big dumb decisions that the community latter corrected, with ideas like O/R mapping (Hibernate), dependency injection (Spring), Struts and lots of other examples that we all know. No one can deny this and lots of wrong things will continue to be fixed in later releases.
    Maybe when you rise yourself back to that level, you open yourself up again to thinking in correct solutions in stead of trying to hammer through your own poorly chosen one.To be sincere, I see you took very personal about this issue. You really shows to be someone that has no respect to other people and you judge them too. I must say that I got surprised by the way you answered my post. I didn't expect to get such sarcastic answer to what I asked. I personally don't act this way. If I can't help a person, I also don't try to ridicularize him.

  • XI Java module deployment

    A XI java module can of course be deployed by using SDM.
    I would like to know if it is also possible to use the NWDI.
    So checking in and out Java source and deploy it on the XI J2EE server.

    Hi Theo,
       Ya, it is definitely possible to deploy the java module using NWDI. If u r aware of the dev env in NWDI, then its the normal way by creating an EAR application which will hold this java module(EJB). The EAR is a deployable component and u deploy it by just rt clicking the project and click the deploy option.
    Thanks,
    Akshay

  • Error when deploy Java Proxy Server EAR to PI

    We are trying to deploy our Java Proxy Server EAR to PI using Visual Administrator. However, it gives the following error:
    Deploy of the ear has errors :
    java.rmi.RemoteException: Cannot deploy application sap.com/TestBatch
    Reason: Errors while compiling:
    .... .java:91 illegal escape character
    if (method.equals("U0024descriptor")) { ....
    We have tried to deploy the same EAR to another PI system and it works fine. As a result, we think we might have missed something when installing or configuring this PI but don't have a clue where to start. We have also tried deploying using SDM but also didn't succeed.

    Hi Pikad !
    I understand that it the very same EAR deployed with no hassle in another PI, here it should work ok, but I think you should check the backslash you are using. If you need to use the backslash character, you must use ("
    U0024descriptor") or change the U to \u0024 for the dollar sign.

  • External Java Function with a Result Type

    Dear all,
    I have created a workflow process which use a Function Activity of type "External Java" without a result type and it works fine, but i have created another with the result type of boolean (WFSTD_BOOLEAN) and it doesn't work properly. I will explain what is happening.
    I start a process and it stops in that function activity, then the oracle Function Activity Agent executes the class associated to that function and it works fine. Then i review the workflow process and check that the status of the activity is "Deferred". I execute the wf_engine.background process, and then the status of the activity is "Complete" but the result field is blank, thus the process is stopped and did not go through the "True" branch of the process. I have follow the Oracle Workflow and Java Technical White Paper to build the class associated to the function activity, and i return true in the execute method and don't put anything in the errorStack variable.
    The documentation says:
    resultOut If a result type is specified in the Activities properties page for the activity in the Oracle Workflow Builder, this parameter represents the expected result that is returned when the procedure completes.
    Note: Unlike the resultout for a PL/SQL procedure called by a function activity, the resultOut for a Java procedure does not include a status code. In the Java API, only the result type value is required. The status of the activity will be set automatically by the Workflow Engine depending on whether there is a value in the errorStack variable.
    am I doing something wrong? could anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Allison,
    I've found the solution to the problem. If i set the variable resultOut to "T" or "F" before finnishing the execute method it works.
    I think that you have to set the variable resultOut with the internal value of the lookup type that you are using as the result type of the function activity.
    Bye!

  • Performance issue when calling java module

    Hi experts,
    It takes much time to call Java module 'JBND_CRM_SVY_XSLT_TRANSFORM' from abap function module.
    When I executed runtime analysis via t-cd:se30,
    most of time is consumed in 'wait for RFC' .
    When the java module is called, it always takes much time.
    I think VMC memory management is not the cause,
    because the issue also occurs at first call.
    The kernel patch level is 146 of release 700.
    Do you have any idea to improve performance?

  • Create a JAVA module

    Hello
    I wanted to know if it was possible to create a JAVA module into OBIEE (ie. create a java program which would be called by OBIEE and interact with the current logged in user, etc)
    thanks

    java integrates already the PAM concept (which seems comes from sun laboratories and integrated firstly in solaris, i'm right?) in java through the JAAS api.
    JAAS is already integrated in java since java 1.4.
    so, the PAM concept (pluggable authenticable module) is mapped to the javax.security.auth.spi.LoginModule interface.
    so, to add a PAM to your java application, you should provide a LoginModule implementation.
    hope it helps,
    Charles(jGuard team).

  • Calling Remote-Enabled JAVA Module from Web Dynpro Java

    Anyone have a clue how I can call a Remote-Enabled JAVA Module in ECC from a Web Dynpro Java app?  I'm on Portal 7.0.  When I try and create an Adaptive RFC model in NWDS and put in the Function Module name (CFG_API_FIND_KNOWLEDGEBASES) or its Function group, that RFC is not returned for me to import.  Can I not use this method to get at this function?
    (I CAN call this function module and run it from the old SAP Business Connector software.  That, however, does not help me get it into my Web Dynpro app.)

    If anyone stumbles upon this thread, the long and short answer is you can't call a Remote-Enabled JAVA module in SAP from Web Dynpro Java.....using Adaptive RFC.
    You can, however, if you create your own session and function call directly in Java code and give up on being able to use Adaptive RFC.

  • Java proxy and EAR file in NDS

    Hi,
    I'm new in java and also proxy development and I need some help
    I have followed the pdf how to create java proxies in 3.0.
    But i have some doubts:
    Must I delete aii*.jar libraries from the EAR create?
    I have no other .jar archive in that .ear... why? I suppose that is not correct and why my EJB module .jar is not included?
    Thanks
    carme,

    Hi, Shabarish
    I have followed the same steps point out in this two blogs.
    I recreated all my EJB project and application.
    The EAR file created only contains:
    guidgenerator.jar
    aii_utilxi_misc.jar
    aii_proxy_xirt.jar
    aii_msg_runtime.jar
    sda-dd.xml
    application-j2ee-engine.xml
    application.xml
    Sap_manifest.mf
    Manifest.mf
    and also a file WITHOUT NAME and size 0.
    That is not correct... right?

  • Add ejb.jar as a module into ear using jdeveloper

    hi all,
    i have problem with ejb.jar file.
    i want to add one ejb.jar module into jdeveloper application.
    I means i want to add into ear as dependencies.
    right now, I can only add jpr project as dependencies.
    Unfortunately my ejb.jar dont have source file.
    how can we achieve this?
    With Regards,
    WP

    OK, here is a working solution which I finally found myself:
    1. register the ejb references in the consuming web application manually (in web.xml)
    2. add the interfaces jar to the app APP-INF/lib file group (Application Libraries)
    3. add a new file group for libraries and add the ejb jar library (should be among the dependencies of some project to be available)
    4. the path in ear field should be empty so the ejb jar goes into root, but JDeveloper (11.1.1.4-6) in it's amazing helpfulness fills in lib all the time if field left empty: so edit the .jws xml directy and enter v="" in the according element and make sure to check if still empty whenever editing the profile
