Java Program accessing hardware driver

I am planning to develope a project with a USB smart card reader. The USB smart card reader is for some form of authenication purpose of the card holder to verify that the authenticated user is using the program. The application will be a web based program in which a java applet (or java application) will be developed for the web page to access the local USB smart card reader. Can Java Applet has some form of ability to access the hardware, either by accessing the smart card API or it can directly access the USB port to read/write information directly to the smart card reader, provided that the USB reader can provide the low-level communication protocol.

You will have to sign your applet
And you might also need native libraries to access
the card readerThanks for your prompt help.
Because I am quite new to Java, I might ask some naive question.
When you "sign" the applet, which I believe it will be done in the browser setting to trust the applet, this will loosen the security concern of the applet, right?
The native libraries should then be in the form of a DLL in windows environment which the Java applet can call, right? And could you provide some sample code that how a DLL function call can be integrated into Jave.
Thanks again for your help.

  • How a java program accessable by another java program?

    Dear all,
Iam had developed a program which talks to serial port. This program should be intergrated with another main java program . I don't want a function (subroutine )call to my program. i want any other methods to access my program by main java program , which should be fast.

You could serach for "interprocess communication". The main techniques available are pipes and share memory. This means that the two Java programs run as totally separated processes.
An easier way is to restructure the "serial port talking" program into a "utility package with an API" and integrate it with the "main" program. You could let the "serial port talker" run in it's own thread thus creating an illusion of total independency from "main".

  • Accessing oracle DB from a java program - question for oracle driver

    Hi,
    I have Oracle 10 G under vista on my desktop. I am trying to write a simple java program to access/update database tables. I saw in one of oracle example to import 2 packages - namely --- import oracle.jdbc.driver.*; import oracle.sql.*;
Where do I find these 2 packages. Also I read some documentation to download drivers. I would like to use 2 drivers, the thin driver and the OCI driver. Can someone tell me where I can find these drivers and where do I copy these two drivers - so javac and java command can recognize it.
I will greatly appreciate the help. Julia

You can download the drivers from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html.
Note that oracle.jdbc.driver is desupported after 10.2, http://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=201, so you might want to consider using a DataSource to provide Connections.

  • Is java suitable for hardware related programming?

in general, is java suitable for hardware related programming?

One small hurdle is that device driver writing often requires very specific machine instructions that are not directly available to any high level language. IN, OUT, LOCK (lock memory bus), VERR (Verify for Reading), RDMSR (Read Model-Specific Registers), move from/to memory without going through the MMU address mapping, ... (those are from x86, there are a few dozen of them.)
In C, you'd write assembler glue. In Java, you'd write assembler glue and call it through JNI.
So if you modify the question: "is Java + JNI suitable", the answer changes a bit. Still, threading and garbage collection are issues: often you can't have anything else happening in the computer when you are talking to a hardware device; it's often timing-dependent and any other parallel bus access migh throw the bus protocol off.
Depends on the hardware, the operating system, and the Java (real-time Java may be required). Be prepared to write the lowest levels of communication in assembly; there is no other language for those bits.
Would you consider controlling Lego Mindstorms hardware related? The low level bits are operating system services in C/C++/assembly, and the high level is Java.

  • Accessing Sql Server from AS400 Java program

    Hi everybody,
I am trying to access Sql Server from an AS400 Java program. I have tried various Sql Server JDBC drivers including the Microsoft one but no luck yet. When i try to compile my Java program (with driver file in the classpath) it gives some errors on the driver jar file and also it throws out lots of unreadable text characters. This gave me a feeling that probably its a character coding issue with the jar file, so i tried ftp the file in binary mode as well as copying through the Operations Navigator. But still compilation is giving the same kind of errors.
Do I need to have some special JDBC Drivers compiled for AS400 specifically. My understanding was that Java is platform independent so any JDBC Type 4 driver will work.
We are running Java 1.3 on the AS400. Any help on this issue would be great.
    Thanks

Thanks for the help. I am writing a Java program after a long time that's why was making that mistake. Now the program gets compiled correctly but on running the program i am getting the following error message:

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Error accessing jdbc driver

    Hi,
We are using WebLogic Server 7.0 as Application Server.
We now create a connection pool named regPool and
    a Tx datasource named regDS.
When we get the connection from the datasource, exception occurred.
java.sql.SQLException: Error accessing jdbc driver: driverURL =
    jdbc:weblogic:pool:regPool, props = {enableTwoPhaseCommit=false,
    jdbcTxDataSource=true, connectionPoolID=regPool}

    at
    weblogic.jdbc.common.internal.RmiDataSource.getConnection(RmiDataSource.java

So I guess that why we can't use CMP for finding data. Here is the error when we call the finder.
javax.ejb.FinderException: Exception in findAllEmr while preparing or
    executing statement: 'null'
java.sql.SQLException: Cannot obtain connection after 30 seconds. ,

    Exception = Access not allowed
    at
    weblogic.jdbc.jts.Connection.wrapAndThrowSQLException(Connection.java:694)
According to the exception message, it looks
like the connection fail between WLS and Oracle 9.2.
Here is a scenario I think you should need to know.
    I change the table-name in the weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml
to a name that doesn't exist in the database.
Then, re-package the EJB, copy it to server and restart the server.
A exception occurred that says the table doesn't exist.
So, in this case, it looks like the datasource works and
    connection is fine.
    Any recommendation will be appreciated.

  • Access the adobe form pdf data in abap or java programs

    Hi,
We created an adobe form, with few text boxes, and emailed to user for filing his data into the pdf file.
He filled the text boxes and saved the pdf, and sent back the pdf file by mail.
    Now our requirement is:
we need to read the values entered by the user in pdf and update in certain ztables using abap or java.
    case 1: using abap
How can abap program read the entries/values in pdf.
is there any doc/blog that shows how to access the adobe form data in abap.
do we need to use/install any software for this.
    case 2: using java
Is it possible to read/retrive the adobe form data into java. once the data is into java program, i can utilise the data for several puposes.

    using ABAP:
    check the program: FP_PDF_TEST_03
This program reads the data from Adobe into XML format.
After this you have to read the data from XML format into ABAP(hope you know how to convert XML to ABAP or simply google it).

  • Accessing DB2 data through DBLINK in Java program recieves ORA-02063 error

    Hello,
Is it posible to access a mainframe DB2 table through a Java JDBC connection utilizing a DBLink / Synonym. Using Toad or SQLDeveloper, I can select the DB2 data just fine. Also, PL/SQL programs can access the data without issues. When I try to select data from the DB2 Table in a Java program, I get ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence -- ORA-02063 preceding line from DB2D errors.

  • Want to access RESTful Services through Java Program

We are trying to access RESTful Services exposed by Oracle database cloud through our Java code, with authentication enabled for a particular user.
Till now, we have completed below steps:
    1) We have a working account with Oracle database cloud (Username – xxx.xxx)
    2) We log in using the credentials for above account, and navigate to Oracle Apex ? SQL Workshop ? RESTful Services
    3) We create a new “RESTful Service Module” by filling out the details as below:
         Name:                                  SampleTest
         URI Prefix:                            test
         URI Template:                       /getallemp
Pagination Size:                    25 (kept to default)
         Required Privilege:                 TestGroupPrivilege
         Resource Handler Details:
                    Method:              GET
                    Source Type:      Query
                    Format:               JSON
                    Source:               select * from emp
After creating the above module and testing it, it works fine and the data is retrieved in JSON successfully.
The resulting URL for above RESTful Service Module is: https://<HOST_URL>/apex/test/getallemp
Note that “TestGroupPrivilege” is a privilege assigned to the user group “RESTful Services” and the user “xxx.xxx” is a member of “RESTful Services” user group.
    4) We are unable to call the RESTful services from Java program. We are passing username and password in request header as basic authentication. But, we are getting: Error 500--Internal Server Error
    5) If we change the “Required Privilege” to default i.e. no privileges present on the module, we can get the response through Java code and everything works perfectly fine.
Please suggest us in: How to access RESTful Services through Java code by passing user credentials in HTTP header for authentication. Also let us know if we have to do any settings through Apex, in case we are missing any.
    Message was edited by: NeerajGirolkar
    - When we are logging in to Oracle cloud on browser and execute the Oracle cloud RESTful service in another tab of same browser, we are able to get the result. But when executed the same RESTful service from a different browser or java program we get internal server error.
    - After investigation, we found that when user logs in to oracle database cloud, a cookie is set in browser with name s “OAMAuthnCookie_cstest-domo.db.us1.oraclecloudapps.com:443” and value as some random token. This cookie is passed in the subsequent requests to the RESTful Service calls when using same browser and as a result, we are able to get the results
    - In the Java program, we copied the same cookie with random token in the HTTP Request header and we got the proper response from REST APIs.
    - It seems that this cookie is created by an Oracle Middleware tool/server called as OAM – Oracle Accounts Manager, which sends the authentication token after successful authentication and creates the cookie.
    - We found that the cookie that OAM creates on authentication is exactly in the same format i.e. ‘OAMAuthnCookie_cstest-domo.db.us1.oraclecloudapps.com:443’. So, we are guessing that Oracle cloud uses OAM for authentication. Please refer to following link for same : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15478/sso.htm
    Can anyone please suggest:
    1.     How to provide authentication to Oracle Cloud REST APIs from java program?
    2.     How to pass the username and password in Java code to OAM (or how to communicate with OAM using Java) so that we can receive the unique token from OAM. We can use the token in the further requests? 3.     Also in Oracle cloud white papers , it is mentioned that they support OAuth2.0. But we didn’t find any URLs for same. Can anyone please confirm?
    Thanks
    ~ Neeraj Girolkar

    Hi Nilesh,
We tried to connect to Oracle Cloud Database using the way you suggested above, but unfortunately it is not working as well.
Can you let us know the authentication process with Oracle Cloud Database? We found in documentation that it uses OAM (Oracle Access Manager) for authentication. Can you tell us a bit about that? That will be extremely helpful.
    Thanks,
    - Neeraj
