    I assume your signature is correct.
    Signing the applet enables privileges (like file IO) whenever all the calls on the stack leading
    to the sensitive operation (in your case fis = new FileInputStream("c://premji.rar")) originate
    from the signed jar. It is not your case, as you come into the applet from javascript.
    The solution is to use AccessController.doPrivileged...(). It was designed with this situation in mind.

  • Can't fix a java.security.AccessControlException exception

    Hi.
    I have a webapp running under j2ee with a ContextListener that performs some initialization tasks.
    One of these tasks consists in querying a database and putting the results in a xml file according to an existing xml file that acts as a map for it maps the rows and columns of the result set to elements and attributes in the xml doc (this task is really performed by an EJB that the ContextListener instantiates).
    To do this, at some point the EJB tries to instantiate a new org.w3c.dom.Document object pointing to the xml map file witch, like I said, will be used to 'massaje' the data in the query into a xml format.
    Here's the revelant portion of the code:
    mapDoc = docbuilder.parse(mapfilepath);
    When the EJB tries to do this, the following exception is thrown:
    java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission c:\j2sdkee1.3.1\public_html\iFAQs\xml\temas-map.xml read)
    I've checked the server.policy file and it seems ok, it has a grant section that makes me believe I should have read and write access to all files under public_html:
    grant codeBase "file:${com.sun.enterprise.home}/public_html/-" {
    permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "loadLibrary.*";
    permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "accessClassInPackage.*";
    permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "createClassLoader";
    permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "queuePrintJob";
    permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "modifyThreadGroup";
    permission java.io.FilePermission "<<ALL FILES>>", "read,write";
    Any help will be much appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Best regards,
    Piponline, Portugal

    hi piponline,
    thanx for the question details u have specified, part of ur details are used to solve my problem. i have just copied the permissions statements for servlets to j2ee server section in server.pliciy file
    bye

    Hi,
    The issue is execution of startWebLogic.cmd failed,once shutting down the system and restarting it.At first time,after the installation ,it worked and I was able to log in to web logic server.I also created boot.properties file with user name and password for web logic server in user_projects/domains/UCM_domain/server/admin server/security folder.
    The operating system is windows xp, with 32 bit,oracle web logic version 11g, and UCM version 11.1.1.4.0.
    the error log is:

    I'm getting this error when i pressed the OK! JButton.
    PLEASE ! help me by correcting this error.
    Thank You.

    Presumably you are running this via a browser where the applet is served from the server.
    Applets can only connect back to the origination server and using the name that the origination server was accessed with.
    And that has nothing to do with JDBC, all connections work that way.
    Your driver uses a connection thus it will not work unless it attempts to connect to the server that originated the applet.
    Solutions
    1. Connect to the server
    2. Sign the applet
    3. Modify the policy file of each client that will run the applet. This is not a good idea in an unsecure network.
    Note as well that in an unsecure network is most often a bad policy to have an applet directly accessing a database regardless.

  • Help! JDOM SAXParserFactory causing Security exception in Microsoft Java VM

    Hiya all, I'm really hoping you can offer me a hand with this problem.
    I'm having a problem with SAXParserFactory causing a security exception in
    Microsoft Internet Explorer, using JDOM b7.
    here is the error string it spits out:

    Using Microsoft's 5.0.0.3802 VM, this error results in a NullPointer
    Exception further down, causing the app to quit.
    in 5.0.0.3310, it reports the error but continues to run.
    in 5.0.0.3234, no errors are reported at all.
    Do you guys have any idea what's going on and why, and what I might be able
    to do to correct this?
    Any help is greatly appreciated...
    -J

    The factory classes (DocumentBuilderFactory and SAXParserFactory) use a Systems Property to determine which parser to use. Since applets do not have access to the Systems properties, a security exception is usually thrown.
    I have not done work with Applets that use JAXP, however I would bet if you search this forum you will find other who have had this problem along with a possible work around.
    Hope this helps.

    Lot of thanks for your help.

    Check the weblogic.policy file to make sure that it is giving permissions to the right directories. If you have
    installed a Service Pack, make sure that both service pack jar files are at the front of their corresponding
    classpaths...

  • Solution to: javax.naming.AuthenticationException.  Root exception is java.lang.SecurityException: attempting to add an object which is not an instance of java.security.Principal to a Subject's Principal Set

    Hello world,
    To anybody who receives this irritating error in a Java client
    application attempting to access Weblogic Server 6.1 (and possibly
    weblogic server 6):
    javax.naming.AuthenticationException. Root exception is
    java.lang.SecurityException: attempting to add an object which is not
    an instance of java.security.Principal to a Subject's Principal Set
    The cause of your problem is having JAAS explicitly in your classpath.
    It somehow messes up authentication to WebLogic. Remove it and your
    problem will disappear.

  • Exception: java.security.AccessControlException

    hi, im writing a swing applet that uses a gif in a toolbar. it works fine in the appletviewer but when i try and run it in IE i get the following message:
    Exception: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied(java.io.FilePermission new.gif read). i dont think theres a problem with the gif, ive tried using one from a Swing applet from Sun and get the same message.
    id be grateful for any help
    thanks

    Hi.. I had the same exception some time ago. This should fix the problem:
    In you policy file, e.g. HelloPolicy you shuld add this to your grant permission:
    permission java.io.FilePermission "C:${/}YourPages${/}HelloApplet${/}yourpic.gif", "read";
    This should fix the problem... I hope :-)

  • Java plugin:security exception even after selecting "grant this session"

    I have made a signed jar with a class in it which tries to access system properties "System.getProperties"
    Now i am instantiating this class from an applet which is unsigned.
    When i try to view the applet th' java plugin it shows the window asking for the permissions but when i say "grant this session " or grant always" it gives secuity exception.
    I would like to know that is it possible to access the class which is signed from an unsigned applet.
    I have used netscape signing tools 1.3 for making a test certificate and putting it in cacerts store of java plugin.
    And signing the jar file with this certificate.
    Kindly help.
    Thanks in advance.

    As far as I understand the Java security model, by default, the AccessController gives your class's method call the lowest common security permissions of all classes invoked. In order for a class in a more trusted/priveleged security domain (i.e. the signed jar) to be used by your unsigned applet you would have to use the doPriveleged() method of the AccessController class. See:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/security/AccessController.html
    Hope that's of use.

    No security modification is normally required. I can't be sure but it looks to me like the jar file containing the package javax.crypto.e has not been signed by Sun. If you are writing your own provider then you would do well to look at reply #7 of http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5222038 .
