Java.sql.SQLException: Unsupported feature
Hi,
I am receiving the following error after i added savepoints in my code
connection.releaseSavepoint(savePt) is the statement where my code is failing..
java.sql.SQLException: Unsupported feature
JDK - tried with 1.4.2 and 1.5
JDBC - using ojdbc14.zip
Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance
You need to know which version of the driver you are using...
The following code shows both driver version and database version:
import java.sql.*;
import java.io.PrintWriter;
public class dbinfo
public static void main (String arr[]) throws Exception
PrintWriter outWriter = new PrintWriter(System.out);
DriverManager.setLogWriter(outWriter);
String dbDriver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
// need to set values for YOUR database
String dbURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@xxxxx:1521:yyyy";
String dbPW = "zzzzz";
String dbUser = "zzzz";
Connection con = null;
Class.forName(dbDriver);
con = DriverManager.getConnection (dbURL, dbUser, dbPW);
DatabaseMetaData dbmd = con.getMetaData();
System.out.println("===== Database info =====");
System.out.println("DatabaseProductName: " + dbmd.getDatabaseProductName() );
System.out.println("DatabaseProductVersion: " + dbmd.getDatabaseProductVersion() );
System.out.println("DatabaseMajorVersion: " + dbmd.getDatabaseMajorVersion() );
System.out.println("DatabaseMinorVersion: " + dbmd.getDatabaseMinorVersion() );
System.out.println("===== Driver info =====");
System.out.println("DriverName: " + dbmd.getDriverName() );
System.out.println("DriverVersion: " + dbmd.getDriverVersion() );
System.out.println("DriverMajorVersion: " + dbmd.getDriverMajorVersion() );
System.out.println("DriverMinorVersion: " + dbmd.getDriverMinorVersion() );
System.out.println("===== JDBC/DB attributes =====");
System.out.print("Supports getGeneratedKeys(): ");
if (dbmd.supportsGetGeneratedKeys() )
System.out.println("true");
else
System.out.println("false");
con.close();
}If your driver version is less than 9.2.0.1, the feature is not supported and you need a more recent version of the driver (which you can download from the URL in the previous post). If your driver version is greater than 9.2.0.1, the feature is supposed to be supported and you should contact Oracle support.

PreparedStatement.addBatch() throws SQLException: Unsupported feature
Hi,
We am using Oracle 8i with thin JDBC driver (classes12.zip) & JDK1.3.
If we use normal statement for batch update, using OracleStatement.addBatch() and OracleStatement.executeBatch(), it works fine. Problem occurs when doing batch update with prepared statement, using OraclePreparedStatement.addBatch() and OraclePreparedStatement.executeBatch(). The see the exception below

Please help... Do I need to change the JDBC driver. If Yes, which driver should I use.
Regards,
MandarTry using
((OraclePreparedStatement)theStmt).setExecuteBatch(blocking factor);
set the blocing factor to be something like 1000.
The the above doesn't work by itself, then try adding the following after connection.
((OracleConnection)conn.setDefaultRowPrefetch(blocking factor);
and then use the 1st statement.
Hope it works. -
Blob writing error ORA-29532 Java call terminated Unsupported feature
Hi there,
I've got the following Java code which tries to write to a BLOB file. It's a version of some code to extract files from a zip archive, but with everything but the erroring call stripped out:
create or replace and compile java source named zipunpack as
package org.bristol.cyps;
import oracle.sql.BLOB;
import java.util.zip.*;
public class ZipUnpack
public static int unpack(BLOB ziparray[], String filename, BLOB filearray[])
throws java.sql.SQLException, java.io.IOException
BLOB file = filearray[0];
java.io.OutputStream fileout = file.setBinaryStream(0L);
return 1;
This is published as follows:
create or replace function zip_unpack (
pio_zip in out nocopy blob
, pi_filename in varchar2
, pio_file in out nocopy blob
) return number as language java
name 'org.bristol.cyps.ZipUnpack.unpack(oracle.sql.BLOB[], java.lang.String, oracle.sql.BLOB[]) return java.lang.Integer';
And called like so:
procedure send_zip_file (
pi_zip in out nocopy blob
, pi_filename in varchar2
) is
file blob;
completed integer;
begin
dbms_lob.createtemporary (
lob_loc => file
, cache => false
, dur => dbms_lob.call
completed := zip_unpack(pi_zip, pi_filename, file);
if completed > 0 then
bare_html.print_blob(file);
else
htp.print('File "' || pi_filename || '" not found');
end if;
end;
This, as far as I can tell from the documentation, should work. Unfortunately, though, it generates an error:
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.sql.SQLException: Unsupported feature
The particular line which is causing the error is the "java.io.OutputStream fileout = file.setBinaryStream(0L);" If I remove this, it runs fine. I'm flumoxed as to why this might be causing an "Unsupported feature" exception when it's documented as being supported. Can anyone shed any light?
Cheers,
Robert
Message was edited for more clarityHi,
It looks like you are not using 10g JDBC. java.sql.Blob.setBinaryStream is a JDBC 3.0 method. In 9iR2 we added support for jdk14 and added stub methods for JDBC 3.0 behavior without fully implementing them. 10gR1 was the first version where the JDBC3.0 methods were fully supported.
The workaround is to use the Oracle proprietary method oracle.sql.BLOB.getBinaryOutputStream
Kuassi, http://db360.blogspot.com -
Hello everyone:
Our JSP application with a whole bunch of classes talks to an Oracle database using JDBC. The Oracle DB was 9i, but we upgraded to 10g. When this happened, we get the following error during processing a call that brings out a clob out of the DB.
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-24813: cannot send or receive an unsupported LOB
I googled the error message to find out that it is caused by the difference in versions of the Oracle.
Thus, here is an interesting point. When the app had 10g on his side and the database being 9i, everything worked fine. But, now that they are both of 10g, it does not work.
Does anyone have any idea what's causing this error?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
YosepJust to add in some more background to this problem...
The app machine has Oracle 10g under c://oracle/product/10.2. Since this is only copy of Oracle, this lead me to believe that 10g is what the app is using to connect to the DB through its JDBC classes.
Another interesting point is that the app is JSP/java solution via Tomcat. So, perhaps Tomcat provides its own JDBC kind of libraries?
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: End of TNS data channel
Hello folks,
Has amyone encountered this exception? If so, could you please shed some light for what might be going wrong?
Here is my confuguration:
400MB RAM
1.2GHTz processor
Win2K Pro
Oracle server 9.0.1
JDBC Thin driver (libs for 9.0.1)
Scenario:
My Java code uses Oracle Spatial to insert SDO_GEOMETRY objects into my DB model.
I have a config file where I store my connection properties, e.g.,
<DBConnection name="twatest">
<JDBCDriver>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</JDBCDriver>
<URL>jdbc:oracle:thin:@saturn:1521:saturn</URL>
<Username>user1</Username>
<Password>twatest</Password>
</DBConnection>
We have 2 schemas defined: user1 and twatest.
The problem first occured when I switched from user1 to twatest. Consequent attempt to run the process as user user1 failed! The Java SQL statements do not use schemas (so they default, I suppose, to the default schema for that particular user, in our case being user1-->user1, twatest-->twatest).
The problem happens in the following Java class (search for "HERE" to see where exactly the problem occurs):
package com.vividsolutions.twatest;

The first lake in the list is created without problems, but when the 2-nd lake is being inserted, I get an exception at the preparedStatement.executeUpdate() statement. This happens consistently.
I tried to find information on this on the net, but seems that this problem only happened when people dealt with LOBs?!
Thank you very much!
GeorgiSuresh -- I'd probably log a TAR with Oracle support for this question if you definitely need it resolved. Support have access to all manner of existing cases, so this may be something they have seen before.

You are running the Examples application shipped with WLS, which I guest
the
correct DB to connect with is Cloudscape yet to Oracle, unless you make
changes to the original ConnectionPool in the examples. Anyhow, please
show
us your configuration of the ConnectionPool used when this error pops.

I wrote an applet program and access to Oracle database using JDBC 2.0 (Oracle 8i 8.1.6). When testing, I got errors java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver.
Who havd any idea to solve this problems.
It works fine when I use JDBC 1.2 and JDK 1.2 .
Chuleerat."No suitable driver" usually means that the
connect string is incorrect.
The 8.1.6 driver supports JDK1.1 and JDK1.2.
If you use JDK1.2, the JDBC 2.0 features
are available to you.

Java.sql.sqlException using remote interface
hi guys,
i have successfully deploying my first CMP Entity Bean on WebLogic server. while using
my client application i have created the bean with the following code:
Object obj = (MyHomeInterface) ctx.lookup("Invoice.MyHomeInterface");
MyHomeInterface home = (MyHomeInterface) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, MyHomeInterface.class);
MyRemoteInterface remote = (MyRemoteInterface) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(home.create(7), MyRemoteInterface.class);
remote.setInv();
above code successfully creates the Entity Bean which is available on the database i am using
Access database for this example but when i call its remote method setInv() which creates a
record in database against a particual id it gives me following error.
java.sql.sqlException {Mocrosoft}ODBC Microsoft Access Driver optional feature not implemented.
<<no stack trace available>>
plz let me know where i am doing wrong.
thanks.
AbidMS Access driver is not network supported. Instead you can try some type-4 drivers available for Access.
Have a look at,http://industry.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers and choose a driver. -
Hello together!
I am trying to add a long value to an access db.
(I have a PreparedStatement.)
But I get the following error:

when exucuting the followint line:
statement.setLong(2,new Long(data[1]).longValue());
How can I find out which feature is missing and install it?
Thanks.
MarkusCould it be that the driver is not installed for that?
I am connecting like that:
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ="+path, "", "");
Thanks for your help. -

Br,
AnjumHi,
It seems like a bug as per metalink note:
APPPBR : AP Prepayment Balance Report Error Out java.sql.SQLException: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small ORA-06512: at line 11 [ID 827325.1]
Anyway, if you have any relevant information, please share.
Br,
Anjum -
Hi all,
In the middle of the last week for my final year project and having to convert to an Oracle database due to compatibility problems with university Tomcat Server and MS Access. I'm having trouble connecting to the Oracle database and would appreciate some help please.
Running on Windows 98 in the lab here, and the Oracle 9i, release 9.2.0.2.0, J2SDK1.4.0, Classes12.zip installed OK.
Code for connection looks like this inside the constructor of my class:
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
cardSaleConnexion = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:[email protected]:1521:sid","user_name","pwdt");
System.out.println("Connection Successful ");
And I'm getting the following error when calling the constructor in a driver program:
java.sql.SQLException: Invalid Oracle URL specified

Please reply on a very urgent basis.
Kind regards,
PeterTry ojdbc14.jar as the JDBC driver instead of classes12.zip.

Database Driver
This section describes the known database driver issues and associated solutions.
ID Summary
4700531 On Solaris, an ORACLE JDBC driver error occurs.
This new Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver is for Oracle (R) working with JDK1.4. The problem is caused by a combination of the Oracle 9.1 database and ojdbc14.jar. Applying the patch will fix the problem on Solaris 32-bit machine, running an Oracle 9.0.1.3 database.
Solution
Obtain and apply the patch to your server from the Oracle Web site for Bug 2199718. Perform the following steps:
1.Go to the Oracle web site.
2.Click the 'patches' button.
3.Type 2199718 in the patch number field.
4.Click the 32-bit Solaris OS patch.Go to Metalink.oracle.com.
5.Click patches.
6.Under patch number, enter 2199718.
7.Click the 32 bit Solaris OS patch.
4707531 On Solaris, accessing an Oracle 9.1 database with an Oracle 9.2 Client may cause data corruption.
If you use an Oracle (R) 9.2 client to access an Oracle 9.1 database, data corruption might occur when a number column follows a timestamp column.
The problem might be caused by using the ojdbc14.jar file with an Oracle 9.1 database. Applying the patch might assist in addressing the situation on Solaris 32-bit machines, running an Oracle 9.1 database. This JDBC driver is for Oracle working with JDK1.4.
Solution
Obtain the patch that Oracle might make available from the Oracle web site for Bug 2199718 and apply it to your server.

Pankaj D. -

my code is:
while (rs.next())
String recnumber = rs.getString("Person_ Record_ Number");
int reccc=Integer.parseInt(recnumber);
if (Integer.parseInt(FamilyTree.rowselected)==reccc && AddPersonn!=0)
System.out.println ("record in table "+reccc);
System.out.println ("record selected "+FamilyTree.rowselected);
str.executeUpdate("INSERT INTO Person " +

setVisible(false);
System.out.println(Filename);
LINE 1155 that the error message says is line :str.executeUpdate("INSERT INTO Person " +
<<<PersonFrame.actionPerformed(PersonFrame.java:1155)>>>>>
also note that i didn't include a try statement here (int reccc=Integer.parseInt(recnumber) because recnumber since is created holds the value 5000 so there is no need
Also the output.. of
System.out.println("INSERT INTO Person " + "VALUES ('"+nameofperson.getText()+"','"+SurnameOfPersonTxt.getText()+"','"+Bday+"','EMPTY','"+DateOfDeathTogether+"','"+PlaceOfDeath+"','"+address+"','"+phone+"','"+genre+"','"+Country+"','"+FamilyTree.rowselected+"','"+Nicknametxt.getText()+"','"+Filename+"','"+BioFile+"','"+city+"','"+postal+"','"+Causeofdeath+"','"+PlaceBurried+"','"+TimeOfBirth+"','EMPTY')");
is:
INSERT INTO Person VALUES ('fgfgff','dfdgfd','2/1/1988','EMPTY','Person Is Alive','null','EMPTY','EMPTY','Male','EMPTY','0560','dasfds','EMPTY','EMPTY','EMPTY','EMPTY','null','null','EMPTY','EMPTY')
and my table gets only text values...
Any Help Will Be Greately Appreciated
Thanks
Nick .sYou cannot do two thing at the same time with the same statement (while your ResultSet is open you are making an insert), try using a separate Statement that the one you used for the query for the insert. If that doesn't work, make a new connection, that will do it.
If you were using a separate statement then I'm sorry, I couldn't tell from your code. I'd had a similar problem and that's the way I solved it. -

Hi,
I am getting the following error message while connecting with the MySQL .(O/S :Sun OS 5.6)
Error.....java.sql.SQLException: Invalid authorization specification: Access denied for user: 'some_user&password@localhost' (Using password: NO)
Note that i have given all permission to the user using,

The code i have used to connect with the database is,
import java.io.*;
import java.sql.*;
class test
public static void main(String a[])
try
Connection con;
Statement stmt;
ResultSet rs;
Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
con=DriverManager.getConnection(jdbc:mysql://localhost/db_name?user=some_user&password=some_pass");
stmt=con.createStatement();
//do something with resultset
catch(Exception e)
System.out.println("Exception in second try.."+e);
plese guide me on this problem to solve.
Thankz,
Bala.Hi friends...
I've read the last post...
The problem that I have is as follow....
1. I have installed on my machine MySQL 5.0 Server running
1.1 I have a database called "base1"
1.2 User "root", password "works"
1.3 I have the following sentence to connect it using JDBC
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/base1", "root", "works");
More notes:
- I use the JDBC 5.0
- My Machine is a Windows XP SP2 Pentium 3.0 512Mb
and it connects
but I have this environment to develop applications, now that I want to connect to Production Environment happens the following:
2 The Production database is mounted on a Linux Server with MySQL 3.2.
2.1 I change the sentences as follow:
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://192.168.0.7/base1", "user", "password");
2.3 But a message appears when I run the Java Program:
java.sql.SQLException:Access denied for user: '[email protected]' (Using password: YES)
2.4 As you can see it changes the IP Address...
More notes:- I have the MySQL Query Browser and I got connection.
- The IP that display the Error Message is my Second IP configurated on my Network Properties.
- Server is a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz 2Gb Linux Red Hat 3.0
I leave this case for the spider... I hope that somebady has the solution.
What is the problem? Why the JDBC doesn't respect the IP that I wrote.
