Javascript local storage is shared across books

It's nice that local storage sharing between widgets in a book works, but sharing also happens between books.  So, localStorage.clear() in any book wipes out all books.  Any way to restrict to one book?

You are a 'vendor' - it just means a book that uses local storage from anyone else besides you. It sounds like you're only sure that what's happening is affecting your own books...?
I use HTML5 localStorage in my apps and they don't wipe each other's data....that's why it's called 'local' , because it is sandboxed to that app. I've heard of some cases where an iBA book shared notes with another book, same author, so I'd assume that effect is what's behind the global wipes.
Are your books capable of sharing notes, too? Sorry if I missed it, are these always tested by loading via iTunes or just previews?

  • Need information on "Flash local storage" please

Does anyone know about "Flash local storage"? Where is it? what sort of data can be stored there? how you see it and delete it?
Friend wanted me to check out Pandora and reading through their FAQs I found this interesting tidbit.
Note that Flash Local Storage, which holds your Pandora account and log-in information, is shared globally across all user accounts and browsers on a computer. This means that even if someone visits Pandora.com in another browser... the last account left signed in to Pandora will appear the next time anyone visits Pandora.com on that computer.
It go me wondering what other data is being stashed into this "storage" without my knowledge.

    No.
dogs got to it and now there are bite marks on it and the on and off switch was pulled off

  • Hyper-V Failover w/ Local Storage question

I'll also suggest option 3 - Replicating to an offsite service that can power up the VMs in the event of disaster.
Azure is a good bet. Especially when paired with System Center Data Protection Manager
Also Datto has a backup appliance with built in local virtualization and hybrid cloud storage with offsite virtualization.

Hi everyone,I have a question about Hyper-V Failover for a client of mine.He runs SQL (very small database roughly 3GB) and would like a MAXIMUM of 1-hour of downtime in the event of a failure.I'm thinking about a hyper-v scenario with Failover using local storage (he doesn't have the funds for shared storage). We will have 2 virtual servers: a DC and the sql server.Do I need 3rd party software to duplicate the local storage data across servers, or is this accomplished with the replication that occurs every 5 minutes in Hyper-V?High availability isn't necessary, but if I'm able to get him back up and running with minimal data loss in under an hour, he's going to be a happy camper.I've looked high and low for an answer to this, but seem to be getting mixed reviews. What do you guys think? On another note, those who care to answer:1)...

5GB is typically not enough space to download a movie.  Often, movies take from 3 - 5 GB to begin with.  The only option you have is to delete more things from your iPad.  You can remove unused Apps, pictures, music, text message (messages with pictures can take up a lot of space), email messages, books, magazines etc.

I am not sure whether the failure to compile the first file (with __thread) was due to the incompatibility of this Sun assembler. In the first case, the error msg was emitted before these 2 lines are printed.
I further read a post about gcc 3.3.3's inability to compile code that has __thread in it, on a HP-UX 11.11: http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1216595175060+28353475&threadId=1148976 The conclusion seems to suggest that "the 2.17 GNU assembler did not support thread local storage" and gcc sees that and thus disallows TLS.
If the assembler is the culprit, then does anyone know whether this "Sun WorkShop 6 update 2" assembler in my installation can work with TLS? And how come a Sun assembler becomes the back-end of gcc? I read that gas (the GNU assembler) is the default backend of gcc. (How) can one specify the assembler to be used for gcc?
As an aside, I am able to compile my file on this same Solaris 9/UltraSparc platform using the Sun Studio 12 C Compiler:

Just as another comparison, I compiled a file without __thread on the Solaris 9/UltraSparc platform using gcc 4.0.4. Not surprisingly it worked. • Adobe Flash FAIL:  Adobe Flash Player local storage settings incorrect.  Module 'Resume' feature may not work on this computer.

Using a Windows 2012 RDS Environment, we have users connecting to a CPD website, and as part of the CPD they need to run a systems checker.  When they run the systems checker they get the following error message: "Adobe Flash FAIL:  Adobe Flash Player local storage settings incorrect.  Module 'Resume' feature may not work on this computer". All users are connecting to this environment with Windows CE Clients,I have checked the setting on Adobe Flash and they seem correct but as each user has its own profile on the RDS session, is there something that I should be setting for each user. I have added the website to the trusted sites and it has made no difference.   Any ideas

It sounds like what's happening is that Flash Player can't write or read from the local shared objects in the user's redirected home directory because we disallow traversing junctions in the broker process.  This behavior was disabled to address a vulnerability identified in some of John Forshaw's research into the IE broker last year.
You can enable this behavior by adding the following setting to mms.cfg:
    EnableInsecureJunctionBehavior=1
That said, you can probably gather from the name of the flag that we don't really recommend this approach, and disable this attack surface by default.  There's some risk that a network attacker could craft content that abuses fundamental issues with how Windows handles Junctions to write to arbitrary locations.
Unfortunately, there's not a simple or easy workaround that I'm aware of (but it's been ages since I've administered a Windows domain) for this kind of NAS/SAN-backed terminal server environment where Flash is not able to access \Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\ without traversing a junction.

  • VSphere 6, can't use FT with local storage

    Hi guys,
Now that I have figured out that when turning on FT without shared storage results in no datastores being shown in the FT dialog box in the web client, I've run into a different problem (thus the new discussion topic).
When I turn on FT for a VM that is on local storage, I am now able to select the datastores, but when I select local storage for the secondary VM, I get a bunch of errors that tell me the secondary host can't reach the .vmx file (of course - that's why I needed the shared storage - for these little files). Shouldn't FT be copying the .vmx file and whatever else it needs to be shared to the right spot, since I've told it where that is? Do I need to move my VM to shared storage, then move my VMDKs and stuff to local storage manually?
Here's a screenshot of the dialog:
    Here's the current hardware setup:
    ESX1:
    - IP: 192.168.220.51
    - Datastores: ESX1-LocalStorage and NFS
    ESX2:
    - IP: 192.168.220.52
    - Datastores: ESX2-LocalStorage and NFS
My primary VM for FT is on ESX2, and trying to get my secondary on ESX1.
    Thanks!

    gs_khalsa wrote:
The availability guide isn't accurate (I'll work on getting it corrected). The requirements for FT storage are:
    - Shared storage: FT config file, tie-breaker file, primary VM vmx file
    - Local storage: all other files (VMDKs, etc).
The limitation with this however is that FT can't move or replicate your VM files to a new location, so if the host where the primary VMs VMDKs are stored is unavailable FT won't be able to spin up a new secondary.
    Example:
    3 hosts (A, B, C)
Primary VM running on A - VMDKs stored on local storage
Secondary VM running on B - VMDKs stored on local storage
If host A fails, the secondary on B will take over and become primary. However, until host A comes back on-line FT will not be able to create a new secondary.
    Does this make sense?
    Hi, gs_khalsa,
That does make sense. It isn't all that I think people were hoping it'd be. I think a lot of people were envisioning setting up 2 or 3 hosts in a small environment with no shared storage, and using FT as a share-nothing setup that would ensure a VM never goes down as long as at least one host is alive and the VM isn't corrupted. It's 99% there, but the need for shared storage (that is presumably HA storage, since we don't want the storage to be our single point of failure) for 3 little files kills the vision. FT not being able to spin up a new secondary on a 3rd host seems like it could have been done, too, since FT obviously knows how - it just doesn't automatically assume it should use that 3rd host. Maybe it's more complex that it sounds to actually achieve. At least we have multiple vCPU support now, which is a big step forward. Maybe these smaller milestones will come about in sub-version upgrades *crosses fingers*.
By the way, I appreciate your responses - they've been very helpful in understanding how what I thought the new FT was and where that idea is off target. Thank you.

Thank you again. While I have you I am having sues with my home sharing remotes and wifi sunk with iTunes. Both my iPhone and iPad. All is on but my devices won't seem to work with iTunes n my pc. Any thoughts?

  • Screen sharing across internet

I had set up my Mac for screen sharing with Lion and was able to share the screen to another Mac on the local network, or VNC across the internet. Upgraded to Mountain Lion and screen sharing continued to work both locally and remote.
Moved to Mavericks and now the screen sharing works locally, but will only work for about 30 minutes across the internet. If I reboot the Mac, then I can access the screen across the internet for about 30 minutes, then the connection drops and I would have to reboot the Mac again.
I have screen sharing turned on by:
System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screen Sharing. Clicked on 'Computer Settings...' and checked 'VNC viewers can connect...' and gave it a password.
I can access this remote Mac across the internet using either JollysFastVNC, or the screen sharing app via Finder. Turns out that remote command line and Finder also can access this machine for about 30 minutes, then connection drops.
Has anybody else seen this problem, or have any suggestions on what I can try to keep remote access working for more than 30 minutes?

I don't have a solution (yet). I have the same problem with a Mac Mini remotely. After some short length of time, my ability to control remotely vaporizes. The Mini is running 10.9.1. It seemed to work ok earlier - although the previous version of Mavericks kept screen sharing from working if the firewall was enabled at all. The last system update from Apple fixed that.
But this isn't universal. I can connect with LogMeIn to the Mini after a fresh reboot, but eventually (30 min?) all I get is a black screen. I can connect with LogMeIn to a MacBook Pro on the same remote network as the Mini and it works just fine. I can even connect with LogMeIn to the MacBook Pro and then do screen sharing to the Mini on the same remote network - until that 30 minute? window has elapsed, and then screen sharing fails to connect without even telling me it failed (no black screen, no alert, nothing). Then that doesn't work either. File sharing from that MacBook Pro to the Mini on the same remote network continues to work, and server applications continue running fine on the Mini. For some reason the only problem is that I can't *see* the remote Mini on 10.9.1 for more than a short period after a reboot. All 3 computers involved are running 10.9.1, but only one (the Mini) is failing like this.
It sounds like the problem you are having. If I figure anything else out I'll let you know.

  • Automatic local storage when reading song with itunes match

    Hello,
Is there anyway to disable the automatic storage (download) on the device (either iPhone/iPad) when reading a song stored in the cloud?
If not and that i'm reading my librairy shuffle, when will itunes match stop using my local storage (until it's full?)
This is particularly relevant on a wifi-ipad.
I understand Apple policy here because by storing locally we disminish the impact on their streaming servers but I think it's a really bad choice here.
    Nicolas

No, there is no known way prevent an iOS device from downloading a song that you have decided to play from the cloud.  It will not automatically download any music that you have not decided to play yet. You can manualy download a song or entire album however.  There is a setting for your Music player that will let you toggle between songs that have been downloaded and those that are downloaded and/or available to you through the cloud. It's a good way to know for certain just how much music is on your iPad/iPhone.
It's my understanding that if at some point you have used up your local storage, then songs already downloaded would be systematically removed, but before that happens, it's probably best to swipe across albums or songs that you don't want to store locally any more and just delete them.

  • Adobe flash player settings for local storage not available on menu.

The right-click menu for Flash Player does not show the icon for local storage and I can't save online games. Only settings for 'display', 'microphone', and 'camera' show.

The root cause is that the anti-clickjacking logic in our dialog is throwing a false positive (it thinks the dialog is obscured or otherwise tampered with).  This happens a lot with videos when pixels are moving behind the dialog.
The easiest way to solve this is to just allow local shared objects.
Go to Control Panel > Flash Player > Storage and select Allow sites to store information on this computer.

I thought the itunes would load my music just based on the sharing, but it is a good thing I backed it up. Things like ibooks, and the most recent photos I have taken on my iphone are not loaded.
Please help: I need to know how get all my devices sharing again, and/or pushing media through itunes
Any tips would be welcome. Thanks.

Information that is 'shared' via icloud includes calendar events, contacts, todo items, notes, and safari bookmarks. Music that is on an iOS device isn't shared. If it is music you purchased from the Apple iTunes store you can redownload it or it can be moved from the device by using the Transfer Purchases option of the iTunes File menu when your phone is connected to the computer via the cable. iOS apps can also be transferred to the computer this way. New pictures will sync when the phone/iPad is physically connected but I'm not certain how old pictures that exist on the iOS device but not on the computer are handled. You may need to use a third party program to transfer these old pictures - as well as music not purchased from the iTunes store.

  • Publishing iweb in file storage and sharing service?

I am not very versed in creating webpages. I need to upload the iweb website that I made to my school's "file storage and sharing service" otherwise known as CITES Netfiles. I know that somehow I upload my iweb html files SOMEWHERE on this thing and it will show up as my website but i cant seem to figure it out and the the "help" on the phone cant seem to waste their time trying to help me understand. if anybody has any experience with this i would appreciate your help! thanks!

    Welcome to the Forum!
Only the people who setup the Netfiles system will know exactly where you are supposed to upload your files, and also, what your URL is.
I found this support page for the University of Illinois system. You may be using it since you are from Ill. or maybe the page will help you understand the information your tech support people are telling you:
    http://www.cites.illinois.edu/netfiles/web-publish.html
I checked the linked page about how to upload files to the system, and it's a little out of the ordinary. Netfiles appears to use a browser based "Upload Manager" as it's "Front End". http://www.cites.illinois.edu/netfiles/manage.html#upload
Netfiles does appear to support WebDAV (but not FTP)
    http://www.cites.illinois.edu/netfiles/desktop.html
So you would have to tell iWeb to publish your site to a local folder, then use a program like "CyberDuck", "Transmit" or a program named "Goliath" to upload the site folder that's inside the folder that iWeb created. Special features like blogs and RSS feeds will probably not work with a server like this, although there are ways to link other blog services to your site.
Programs like Dreamweaver support uploading directly to a WebDAV server, but iWeb does not make those settings available, yet.
