JAXB 2.1 - how to annotate my complex class??

Question

So I have been scratching my head with whatever little documentation that exists out there for 3 days now and still can not figure out if in-fact JAXB2.1 can generate the XML for my following class:
class A
private B b1;
private C c1;
class B
string s1; string s2;
class C
string s1; string s2;
I use:-
StringWriter sw;
JAXBContext context = JAXBContext.newInstance(A.class, B.class, C.class);
               Marshaller marshaller = context.createMarshaller();
               marshaller.marshal(a, sw);
print(sw.toString());
it prints an empty string. Any ideas what might I be missing??
