Jbuilder dos window disappears

i'm using jbuilder and when i run a program, the dos prompt goes up on screen for a split second then vanishes. is there a simple getch() function like in C++ that can halt the dos prompt? if not what's the easiest way to halt it?
thanks, mike

Hi-
I'm having a similar problem of the DOS window disappearing.I already tried unchecking that option of "Close console window on exit" but the window still vanishes in 2 secs.
Any help is appreciated
Thanx.

  • The Dos window disappeared quickly after Tomcat 3.1 started

    Hello,
    I need to see the debug statements of my web app.But the start window of Tomcat 4.1 disappeared quickly after it's launch.The Tomcat just work ok.I don't
    have a Java Web Services Developers Pack in my computer.The Tomcat is stand alone.
    Even Tomcat 4.0 in JBuilder7.0 of my machine got the same problem.
    Thx a lot,in advance

    I'm not entirely sure how Tomcat 4 standalone handles this but there are several other options you could try.
    You could attempt to run tomcat from the command line rather than from a BAT file, ie. startup a DOS window and type 'startup' and press enter (you will be able to do this from anywhere if you have the 'bin' directory of your Tomcat installation in your PATH environment variable, otherwise you will have to navigate to this directory to run it).
    If this doesn't work, search for a file in your Tomcat installation directory called 'catalina.out'. It may be under a 'logs' directory. If you can find this then you may find that this is where your std output is. If you are using an editor such as Textpad, it will prompt you to reload itself whenever the file has changed and you are trying to view it so it's not too much trouble.
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I read ALL the compilation errors in a DOS window?

    On compilation using a DOS window, if the number of errors exceeds the window size, some of the errors disappear off the top of the window and I cannot read them.
    Is there an effective solution to somehow use scrolling of the DOS window or transfer the compilation errors to a file?

    Hey buddy,
    When I first started programming with Java, I wondered the same thing. I have the very best solution for you. This one is waaay easy!!!!
    There is a text editor which will not only color code your text for you, but you can easily configure it to give you the compiler /DOS output for Java. Just go to this website and download the program. Enjoy!

  • Supressing Dos window on executing system command

    Hey,
    is there any way to supress the dos window when I call a system dependent .exe or bat file?
    AND
    is there any way to run a .exe file as a background process so that no window of it pops up?
    I use the Runtime.exe() to execute the system command but I'm annoyed by the dos windows it opens up.
    Any help highly appreciated.

    This is an AGE OLD Issue which Sun keep burying. By burying I mean it has been the top of their bugs/requests list many times. They just decide its closed without making any such fixes. The community is not pleased with Suns actions in this respect, blowing off their highest rated request.
    Answer:
    If you start your program with java.exe, then you wont get that window when you do runtime commands. If you start with javaw.exe, you will. They are blaiming it on M$ but most feel its just a silly Sun position and lame attempt to put somethign on M$ that is not really on M$. Sun can do it but they feel their solution is unstable. Most people have ended up making .exes to replace java.exe to get rid of that hideous console window. JBuilder has an interesting (but not my type) solution.
    If you search the top 10 bugs/ requests this one has likely resurfaced as Sun keeps erasing it, but the people keep voting it back to the top...

    For URGENT questions go right to https://support.oracle.com and file a Prio 1 SR with Oracle Support. For everything else I don't see why your question is more urgent then others.
    Did you check if maybe the port OC4J runs on (8889) is already used by another program (netstat)? Did you check the logfiles?

  • Safari 3.0.4 on OS 10.5.1 not crashing but browser windows DISAPPEAR! Help!

    I know there is a thread in the beta forum with a generic title "Safari acting strange" but I figured a more specific thread title might get more attention from those experiencing the same anomalies.
    Here is my problem:
    I'm using Safari 3.0.4 that came with the Leopard 10.5 disk I installed on my laptop. Safari was working fine for a good couple weeks and then suddenly it began acting strange indeed.
    Now after an undetermined amount of time when I have a Safari browser window(s)/tab(s) open it will suddenly disappear off my screen without provocation (meaning I don't have to perform any action to do this. I can be sitting there not touching the laptop or typing anything; it will just disappear as if some unseen person with a remote control hits the Let's-mess-with-this-guy's-computer button). At first glance it seems that Safari has crashed.
    However when I look to see what happened or perhaps relaunch I see that Safari is still up and running. The menu bars all work. It seems to be in perfect working order. Only problem is the browser windows have disappeared and nothing I do will bring them back. I can try to create new browser windows and Safar thinks it is creating them because I can check in Windows menu and see the fruits of my efforts stacking up more and more as I add new windows and tabs in an attempt to get the browser windows back. However where these windows live is a mystery to me. When I try to quit Safari I get an Alert message asking me if I really want to close the windows with the multiple tabs in them (further supporting the theory that Safari still thinks windows are open and seeable by me)
    When I DO quit Safari and relaunch it, it remains in the same state. No browser window is seen yet looking in the Windows menu I can see that a new browser window is present. The only way to use my Safari again is to reboot my computer. Of course this fixes the problem for maybe 5 minutes until the browser windows disappear again. And that's when I switch to Firefox.
    I've repaired permissions. I've checked for any Input Managers folder for culprits but seeing as this is a fairly new laptop and that I just did an Archive and Install of Leopard with a fresh Safari in toe I have not installed any 3rd party applications so no Input Managers folder exists anywhere on my laptop.
    I have the standard Safari Plug-Ins that come with Quicktime.
    I have Spaces turned off. I am not using dual monitors so the browser windows are not being shot off to a second screen somewhere.
    I see nothing in the crashlog because I actually don't think Safari is treating this behavior as a crash. It's not quitting unexpectedly or anything.
    So I am at a total loss. Any ideas?

    I had this problem as well.
    First: In Safari go into preferences and select the "security" tab. Uncheck "Enable Plug-ins"
    This fixed a lot of bugs for me !
    Second: If that worked than you just need to go to Hard Drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    There should be a folder there that is called "Disabled Plug-Ins" I just put all of the plug-ins in that folder, went back and rechecked " Enable Plug-Ins" in Safari preferences, and then one by one added plug-ins back out of the disabled folder while reloading a web page that caused problems before. After some trial & error I think I have a setup that works for now. Hope this helps!! Also as of now I have installed all software updates. My mac has been doing this for a while. Logging out & back in reset safari back to where it was useable.
    I have not had problems with any other programs.

  • ICal week view window is gone. When selected the window disappears.

    Whenever I click on view->week view (or just the "week" button on the bottom row) my ical window disappears. No idea where it is going. If I click on view->day/month the window comes back. However, after it comes back in day or month view, the info sidebar (and button at the bottom to control it, along with the todo and results list buttons beside it) now isn't there.
    Any ideas how to fix this? I think it happened when I plugged my laptop into a 1024x768 projector and then changed my mind quickly and unplugged it, but it has been like this for a couple of weeks now through several reboots etc.
    This is a macbook pro running tiger.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Bruce,
    Often iCal display anomalies can be rectified by refreshing the iCal plist file.
    Quit iCal, and drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and check iCal for desired behavior.
    ;~)

  • Month View makes window disappear

    HI I am wondering about this - I was using iCal and it was working fine, then I cam back to the computer later, and the calendar had disappeared. I quit restarted, repaired permissions, all to no avail.
    What I am finding is that I can see my calendars in Day and Week view, but if I change to month view the window disappears. It also does thew same if I press cmd+3.
    I only use it on one computer, am not syncing to anything. The only that may have been strange was that I was connected to an LC Projector when i was using it, then I disconnected while it was still open. Afterward it doesn't seem to work. But I have also reset the displays to detect that there is not a second monitor, etc.
    I am using a Powerbook G4 17", 1.67GHz, running 10.4.8, and iCal 2.0.4
    I also can't seem to find an updater.
    And just to try - how does one reset iCal to begin with, and not lose all calendars - I've been using it for about 3.5 years (and have the next 8 months scheduled out on it) and haven't had trouble until now, and don't want to lose everything.

    Hi,
    The window positions are kept in your preferences.
    Quit iCal and try moving the com.apple.iCal.plist file in User>Library>Preferences to your Desktop, then re-start iCal. The preference file will be re-created with the default settings, this will not affect the contents of your calendars.
    best wishes

  • Unable to clear DOS window after running JAR

    Hi guys,
    I am trying to write a batch file to launch my JAR, this is because the JAR is on a networked drive, and each user can have a .bat file on their desktop to run it.
    Anyway, when the .bat file is run, the DOS console pops up behind it but I don't want it there,
    How can I make it dissappear after the JAR is launched, or even better, not come up at all?
    I have tried all these to no success.
    call "H:/folder/myApp.jar";
    exit
    call "H:/folder/myApp.jar";
    end
    javaw -jar H:/folder/myApp.jarThanks in advance.

    Why don't you create a shortcut to the jar file?
    Then you won't have a bat or a dos window to close.

  • How would I print information to a DOS window?

    Ok so I can get the DOS window running by using this code:
          try{
                       Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
                       Process child = rt.exec("cmd.exe /c start cmd.exe");
                       child.waitFor();
                   }catch(IOException io){}
                   catch(InterruptedException e) {}but I want to print the information from this code:
    StringBuffer objectString = new StringBuffer("");
    ////some code here//////
    objectString = new StringBuffer(("Customer:\t\t" + customerName + "\n"
                               + "Departure Date:\t" + departureDate + "\n"
                               + "Return Date:\t" + _returnDate));
    ////some code here/////
    objectString.append("\nAirline:\t\t" + airlineBG.getSelection().getActionCommand());
    objectString.append("\nDestination:\t" + destinationBG.getSelection().getActionCommand());
    /////more code. yay//////
    objectString.append("\nPrice:\t\t" + price);
    objectString.append("\nTicket Bought. Have a safe flight!");
    System.out.print(objectString.toString());//print string bufferso how would I print objectString to the DOS window?
    Note: opening the DOS window is in the constructor for the JFrame I am using while printing the StringBuffer is in the actionPerformed implementation.

    no, the program im supposed to be making asks to print ticket information to a DOS window.
    I might have interpreted it wrong and it could be just start from a DOS window using the java File commandWell, study your assignment text. If it does not explicitly state that you must programmatically open a new "DOS window", then simply print your output using System.out.println().Unless he's running Windows 95 still he can't even open a DOS window as there's no more DOS ;)

  • Mail messages window disappear when searching

    Hello,
    I'm using Mail 8.0 on OS X 10.10 (14A389). With French language and localisation. This is something I already noticed in Public Beta.
    I have my Sent folder selected (maybe it would happen with another). I start typing something in the search box. Then the whole main messages window disappear immediately. But Mail thinks it's still visible. Even search suggestions continues to show. Typing cmd+0 to hide/show the messages window does not help.
    I have to restart Mail to get my messages window back.
    This happens randomly. After restarting Mail I can search as usual without the window disappearing. But sometimes later it will happen again.
    Anyone encounters this too? Is this known from Apple? Any better temporary workaround than restarting Mail?

    It still happens and it really gets boring. I have Mail 8.0 (1990.1). It happens from any folder selected: Inbox, Sent, Smart Inboxes...
    How could such a bug remain undetected and not fixed asap? Maybe it's a plot from Apple to get us to ditch Mail and instead buy Unibox, Sparrow or Airmail from the Mac App Store so they get more $$$ commissions?

    Hi ollie lord and thank you for your suggestion.
    I tried to use a *.bat file instead but the result was the same. I tried to use the word "start" in the command but nothing more.
    My .bat file is simple:
    start myprogram or myprogram
    ...where myprogram.exe is a win32 console application from Visual C++.
    Is there any option in function Main() in C++ to remove the dos console ?
    I head about the JNI tech. Is it a solution ?
    Thanks

  • How to make dos window scrollable under win98?

    Hi, I am using win98, every time when I run my GUI application, whenever I got bunch of error message that can not be displayed in one window, I will miss the original error information. Can anyone tell me how to make my dos window scrollable so that I can view all error message.
    Thanks a lot.

    I don't think that you can do this. There is another way, however: When java throws an exception, if it is not caught in your program, it is sent to the standard error, which is the console. You can simply reset this to be a file, so you can read this to get all the error info. Try using the following code in your main method:
      public static void main(String[] arg) {
        try {
          System.setErr(new PrintStream(new FileOutputStream(new File("Errors"))));
          //instantiate your main class here
          MyClass mc=new MyClass(); //or whatever
        } catch (Exception _ex) {
          System.out.println("An error occurred"); //exception get sent to standard error automatically, so there
                                  //is no real need to catch this exception. However, I use it to display
                                  //a message on the console to let me know an error has occurred.
          System.err.println(_ex.getMessage()); //and finally, print the exception to file
          _ex.printStackTrace();
      }
