JComboBox With JTable as Editor

Hi everybody
I'm working with JTable and having a ComboBox as first CellEditor. for that purpose i used following code
        cmbFeeType.setModel(new javax.swing.DefaultComboBoxModel(DefaultFee.FeeTypeItemList()));
        DefaultCellEditor DCEFeeType = new DefaultCellEditor(cmbFeeType);
        DCEFeeType.setClickCountToStart(2);here DefaultFee.FeeTypeItemList is a vector returns array. This is working fine except that the ComboBox remains visible till I dobule clik on a column for editing. Then It becomes invisible and works fine.
my JComboBox is a seperate Control on a JFrame I do not want to use
Class FeeTypeEditor extends JComboBox implements TableCellEditoras a ComboBox editor for JTable
Please Help Me.

Hi
I am giving u a sample code which simulate the error

  • AutoComplete JComboBox As JTable cell editor

    Hello, when I try to use AutoComplete JComboBox as my JTable cell editor, I facing the following problem
    1) Exception thrown when show pop up. - Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.awt.IllegalComponentStateException: component must be showing on the screen to determine its location

    Here is my complete working code. With the same JComboBox class, I face no problem in adding it at JFrame. But when using it as JTable cell editor, I will have the mentioned problem.
    Any advice? Thanks

    You need to create a custom CellEditor which will prevent these problems from occurring. The explanation behind the problem and source code for the new editor can be found at Thomas Bierhance's site http://www.orbital-computer.de/JComboBox/. The description of the problem and the workaround are at the bottom of the page.

  • Problem using an editable JComboBox as JTable cell editor

    Hi,
    i have a problem using an editable JComboBox as cell editor in a JTable.
    When i edit the combo and then I press the TAB or ENTER key then all works fine and the value in the TableModel is updated with the edited one, but if i leave the cell with the mouse then the value is not passed to the TableModel. Why ? Is there a way to solve this problem ?

  • Problem sorting JTable with custom cell editor

    Greetings,
    I have created a JTable with a JComboBox as the cell editor for the first column. However, I couldn't simply set the default cell editor for the column to be a JComboBox, since the values within the list were different for each row. So instead, I implemented a custom cell editor that is basically just a hashtable of cell editors that allows you to have a different editor for each row in the table (based on the ideas in the EachRowEditor I've seen in some FAQs - see the code below). I also used a custom table model that is essentially like the JDBCAdapter in the Java examples that populates the table with a query to a database.
    The problem comes when I try to sort the table using the TableSorter and TableMap classes recommended in the Java Tutorials on JTables. All of the static (uneditable) columns in the JTable sort fine, but the custom cell editor column doesn't sort at all. I think that the problem is that the hashtable storing the cell editors never gets re-ordered, but I can't see a simple way to do that (how to know the old row index verses the new row index after a sort). I think that I could implement this manually, if I knew the old/new indexes...
    Here's the code I use to create the JTable:
    // Create the Table Model
    modelCRM = new ContactTableModel();
    // Create the Table Sorter
    sorterCRM = new TableSorter(modelCRM);
    // Create the table
    tblCRM = new JTable(sorterCRM);
    // Add the event listener for the sorter
    sorterCRM.addMouseListenerToHeaderInTable(tblCRM);
    Then, I populate the column for the custom cell editor like this:
    // Add the combo box for editing company
    TableColumn matchColumn = getTable().getColumn("Match");
    RowCellEditor rowEditor = new RowCellEditor();
    // loop through and build the combobox for each row
    for (int i = 0; i < getTable().getRowCount(); i++) {
    JComboBox cb = new JComboBox();
    cb.addItem("New");
    //... code to populate the combo box (removed for clarity)
    rowEditor.add(i,new DefaultCellEditor(cb, i))); //TF
    } // end for
    matchColumn.setCellEditor(rowEditor);
    Any ideas how to do this, or is there a better way to either sort the JTable or use a combobox with different values for each row? Please let me know if more code would help make this clearer...
    Thanks,
    Ted

    Well, I found a solution in another post
    (see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=57&thread=175984&message=953833#955064 for more details).
    Basically, I use the table sorter to translate the row index for the hashtable of my custom cell editors. I did this by adding this method to the sorter:
    // This method is used to get the correct row for the custom cell
    // editor (after the table has been sorted)
    public int translateRow(int sortedRowIndex)
    checkModel();
    return indexes[sortedRowIndex];
    } // end translateRow()
    Then, when I create the custom cell editor, I pass in a reference to the sorter so that when the getTableCellEditorComponent() method is called I can translate the row to the newly sorted row before returning the editor from the hashtable.

  • Using Editor JComboBox is JTable CellEditors

    Hello all.
    I have a JTable with an editable JComboBox as a cell editor, but when it is activated the text inside the edit area is cut off.
    Example: http://www.rightstep.org/Image.jpg
    What can I do with the JComboBox settings to make more of the text visible? If some of it is cut off, that is not a huge issue -- but I'd like as much visible as possible for when people need to enter text that is not already in the drop down box.
    Thanks for any help!

    A combo box has an associated editor which in turn has an associated textfield.... get the textfield and set a null or empty border on it.

  • JComboBox as a cell editor in JTable

    Hi,
    I've set one of my columns in my table to have a JComboBox as a cell editor. This is fine but my problem is that each row has different values in the JComboBox but when I update each row the column with the JComboBox they all end up with the same values.
    All help appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Lou
    // column with JComboBox
    TableColumn myCol = table.getColumnModel().getColumn(3);
    Vector comboValues = new Vector();
    JComboBox myCombo = null;
    for (int row = 0; row < tableModel.getRowCount(); row++)
    comboValues = new Vector();
    if (row == 0)
    // code here to add values to comboValues
    myCombo = (JComboBox) (((DefaultCellEditor) (table.getCellEditor(row, 3, .getComponent());
    myCombo = new JComboBox(comboValues);
    myCol.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(myCombo);
    tableModel.fireTableStructureChanged();
    tableModel.fireTableDataChanged();
    else
    // get differnent values for comboValues and update comboValues Vector
    myCombo = (JComboBox) (((DefaultCellEditor) (table.getCellEditor(row, 3, .getComponent());
    myCombo = new JComboBox(comboValues);
    myCol.setCellEditor(new DefaultCellEditor(myCombo);
    tableModel.fireTableStructureChanged();
    tableModel.fireTableDataChanged();

    Remember that you Table API specifies that each cell will use one instance of the specified editor...
    Think about that... the same editor is being used for each cell in that column... therefore, setting the
    data in the combobox et all will set it for that instance bveing used to edit the cell....

  • Multiple keystrokes selection for a JComboBox in JTable

    Has anyone used multiple keystrokes selection in a JComboBox inside JTable before? I can get it done outside JTable by using: http://javaalmanac.com/egs/javax.swing/combobox_CbMultiKey.html
    Looks like JTable has all kinds of problems to support JComboBox.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    James

    If I read you right, you want to use a multiple keystroke combo box as an editor in a JTable?
    If you create the JComboBox as you would like it and then install it as an editor in the column(s) JTable the editor will work like the JComboBox
    Example:
    //- you would have that keyselection Manager class
    // This key selection manager will handle selections based on multiple keys.
    class MyKeySelectionManager implements JComboBox.KeySelectionManager {    ....    };
    //- Create the JComboBox with the multiple keystroke ability
    //- Create a read-only combobox
    String[] items = {"Ant", "Ape", "Bat", "Boa", "Cat", "Cow"};
    JComboBox cboBox = new JComboBox(items);
    // Install the custom key selection manager
    cboBox.setKeySelectionManager(new MyKeySelectionManager());
    //- combo box editor for the JTable
    DefaultCellEditor cboBoxCellEditor = new DefaultCellEditor(cboBox);
    //- set the editor to the specified COlumn in the JTable - for example the first column (0)
    tcm.getColumn(0).setCellEditor(cboBoxCellEditor); Finally, it may be necessary to to put a KeyPressed listener for the Tab key, and if you enter the column that has the JComboBox:
    1) start the editting
    table.editCellAt(row, col);2) get the editor component and cast it into a JComboBox (in this case)
    Component comp = table.getEditorComponent();
    JComboBox cboComp = (JComboBox) comp;3) give this compent the foucus to do its deed
    cboComp.requestFocus();Hope this helps!

  • Problem with JTable checkbox

    In my table I have a column of checkboxes. If user clicks any checkbox, the program will first check for some condition and pop out a warning dialog saying that "the action will change the current mode. are you sure you want to continue?". If user select "yes", some action are taken and the checkbox should be selected. Now the problem is that after user select "yes", the checkbox is not selected. (Same as when you press your mouse at a checkbox and then drag it out the checkbox cell, the actions are taken but the checkbox is not selected.)
    The code for the cell editor is as follows:
    public Component getTableCellEditorComponent(JTable table, Object value,
               boolean isSelected, int row, int column) {
             if (value instanceof ComboString) { // ComboString
               flg = COMBO;
               String str = (value == null) ? "" : value.toString();
               System.out.println("+++++++ " + row+" : "+column+"  flg: "+flg);
               return cellEditors[COMBO].getTableCellEditorComponent(table, str,
                   isSelected, row, column);
             else if (value instanceof Boolean) {
               flg = BOOLEAN;
               Boolean check = Boolean.getBoolean(value.toString());
                          // promptContinue returns true for continue, false for return; inside it a dialog box is popped for user selection "continue or not"
                          if(!promptContinue()){
                                return null;
               return cellEditors[BOOLEAN].getTableCellEditorComponent(table,
                   value, isSelected, row, column);

    Thanks. But my problem is not with stopping the editor, but with continuing the editor. Following is the code of getCellEditorValue()
    public Object getCellEditorValue() {
             switch (flg) {
             case COMBO:
               String str = (String) comboBox.getSelectedItem();
               return new ComboString(str);
             case BOOLEAN:
             case STRING:
               return cellEditors[flg].getCellEditorValue();
             default:
               return null;
                }I am not very sure whether it is the problem of cell editor or cell renderer, because it seems the code for continue condition is actually executed which is supposed to make the checkbox checked, but the result turns to be that the checkbox is not checked.

  • Any body please can solve my problem that iam facing with JTable

    Dear sir,
    Iam doing an educational product using Swing as front end in that
    iam using JTables. And back end iam using sqlserver. With jtable iam
    facing very serious problem the problem is actually iam entering the values
    in all the columns after that iam pressing the save button its not
    saving but if i click on any of the columns and try to save its saving.
    please anybody can solve my problem.Please if a piece of code is there ill
    be very thankful to you. my mailid is [email protected]
    regards
    surya

    The problem is, the cellEditor does not know that editing has stopped and therefore has not updated the model (where the data actually resides). When you click off the cell to another cell, the first cell knows it must be done editing because you are leaving it. If you click a button (or anything other than another cell), the cell being edited has no knowledge of this. You need to call stopCellEditing() on the cell editor and your problem will be solved. To do this, put the following method into your code and call it when you click the button to clear, save or whatever you need to do.
    public void ceaseEditing() {    int row = this.getEditingRow();
      int col = this.getEditingColumn();
      if (row != -1 && col != -1)
        this.getCellEditor(row,col).stopCellEditing();
      }Hope this helped...

  • Fill JComboBox with Vector from database

    Hi there,
    I have a problem with filling a JComboBox with data from a database. I can print the data in the console, but it seems to be impossible to do it in a ComboBox ...
    I tried this:

            r = (Raum)raeume.elementAt(i);
    //      System.out.println ("Raum: " + r.getRaumname());
    //      System.out.println ("Raumid: " + r.getIdRaum());
         JComboBox jcb = new JComboBox(r.getRaumname());
        getContentPane().add(jcb);
        setSize(200, 50);
        setVisible(true);
      public static void main(String[] args) throws RemoteException, SQLException, NullPointerException, MalformedURLException, NotBoundException {
        new ComboBox("Test");
    }In this case I get the following for JComboBox (line 44):
    "cannot find symbol
    symbol: constructor JComboBox(java.lang.string)
    location: class javax.swing.JComboBox"
    I tried:
    -> change "JComboBox jcb = new JComboBox(r.getRaumname());" to "JComboBox jcb = new JComboBox(raeume);"
    then I got the JComboBox, but with ... I don't know how to describe the content. It seems like a (very long) reference.
    All other tries can't be tested, because I got the problem with constructor again.
    I'm happy for an early response.
    Regards

    Now, it works!

  • Using KeyMap in Editable JComboBoxes and JTable

    I am using Keymapping for JTextFields. It works fine ! I am interested in extending the keymap feature to JComboBoxes and JTable.

    if you want to do the keymapping inside the editable component of the combobox or the table, make sure you apply it on the editor component.e.g. comboBox.getEditor().getEditorComponent() and table.getCellEditor().getTableCellEditorComponent().

  • How to put JComboBox in JTable?

    I'm trying to put JComboBox in JTable, the following is my table model. The problem is that it doesn't display a JComboBox but a string of it, something like "MyTableModel$JComboBox....". Any help would be appreciated.
    class MyModel extends AbstractTableModel {
    String[] columnNames = {"Column One", "Column One"};
    String[] boxItem = {"Item One", "Item Two"};
    String[] rows = {"Row One", "Row Two"};
    JComboBox[] boxes = {
    new JComboBox(boxItem),
    new JComboBox(boxItem)
    Object[][] data = new Object[][]{rows, boxes};
    public Object getValueAt(int row, int col) {
    return data[col][row];
    }

    Hi,
    the TableModel is the wrong place to put the combo box. A model is just a representation for the data displayed in the table.
    A combo box, on the other hand, is a certain way for the user to edit the values in the table (and in the model). To change the way a user edits in a table you have to set the TableCellEditor. You can do this for the whole table or for a certain column.
    // in the JTable's constructor or init method
    // to set JComboBox in 2nd column
    // get 2nd column
    TableColumn column = myTable.getColumnModel().getColumn(1);
    // create combo box
    JComboBox combo = new JComboBox();
    combo.add("ItemOne");
    combo.add("ItemTwo");
    // set as editor for the column
    DefaultCellEditor editor = new DefaultCellEditor(combo);
    column.setCellEditor(editor);This is just an example. Try it w/ a simple table.

  • Table with a textArea editor doesn't stop editing

    I need to have a table with TextArea as editor (to show the information) but it must be changed through a Dialog and return to the render (also a textArea)
    The problem is when after modify the information with the editor I call fireEditingStopped(); and it doesn't return to the render it remains in editor so I can modify the text and when I change of cell It returns to the text put by the editor. I need that the user can't change the text showed in the textArea only be modified through the Dialog.
    In the next code I isolated the problem, so the Editor change the original text with "NEW VALUE" simulating the action of Dialog (which is not included).
    Thanks a lot and thanks for the patience for my bad English.

                    editTextArea.setText(this.theValue);

    I'll study your code to understand what I did wrong.
