Jdbc - compiler can't find packages

Hi,
I've been trying to connect Oracle 9i personal to ColdFusion, but since have simplified and now am truly stumped. I open the sample .java files that are in ORACLE_HOME\jdbc\demo\samples\generic (something like that...) and try to compile the jdbcCheckup.java file. I get this:
JdbcCheckup.java [21:1] package oracle.jdbc does not exist
DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver());
And, to avoid all the classpath issues, I put ojdbc14.jar AND classes111.zip AND classes12.zip right in the directory where the .java files live. AND also the above files with the "-g" option, just to be sure I didn't miss "the" one I needed.
Tell me what I'm doing wrong!!!! This has been going on for many, many days. I think this is the last piece of Dreamweaver, Coldfusion, Oracle and Java to connect up. Then when I actually try to run some code I'm sure I'll be back!
Thanks in advance,
Pat in MN

I got the jdbcCheckup to work by doing what this absolutely wonderful person (Ignacio Sanchez) did:
I have JDK 1.4.1 installed in C:\JAVA\BIN. I downloaded OJDBC14.JAR (JDBC drivers for 9i) to that location, and then from command line I ran "jar xf ojdbc14.jar". All files extracted to a folder structure called "oracle" under the ..\bin folder mentioned above, and a "javac myclass.java" command compiled without errors. What I am trying to say is the compiler found the needed classes that were located in the newly-created folder structure.
So that compiled. Then I tried to compile another file that imports oracle.* and I get "package oracle does not exist". I tried different paths (in Forte you "mount" filesystems) but still no go. Exactly where is this package located? And Coldfusion still won't find the jdbc driver, even with the new path installed in the path that is in CF coldfusion.
How do you find out where all these packages are when they're usually in a .jar file? And are you supposed to do something with the .jar files (as in the above example, "jar xf XXX.jar". And how the heck do you know WHERE to put them?????????? It seems somewhat arbitrary, looking at the hundreds of posts I've read the last couple days. One way works for one machine, another for another machine. Is there any "RIGHT" way, or is it whatever works???
Any suggestions????
Thanks,
Pat

  • Can't find package oracle.bpm.services.tools

    Hi everyone~
    I want to use class ProcessInstanceAuditHelper and class ProcessInstanceTaskHelper in my programe.
    and these two classes is in package oracle.bpm.services.tools which is described in the http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/apirefs.1111/e25378/toc.htm.
    I have already installed BPM suite correctly,and it works well.
    I import all jar files(WLS_HOME\Oracle_SOA1\soa\modules) in my JDeveloper projects,but I still can't find them.
    Please tell me where can I find the correctly jar file.Thanks!

    Guessing you might hear from Oracle that the URL reference in your thread below is pointed to an the old version and that the classes are no longer supported.
    As you know, this is not the case - the URL you have in your thread for the API is the latest for 11.1.1.6. Both classes you mention should be supported (at least according to the Javadoc) and in a recent search I was not able to find them either.
    Might be worth a call to Oracle Support to either straighten out the Javadoc or get you a patch.

  • Compiler can't find other classes

    I've got this bad problem that's been bugging me all weekend, and I can't work out how to fix it. A few months ago I was able to write classes that use other classes I've defined no problem. I just started using my compiler again, and now when I want to use different classes I've written, the compiler says that it can't find the other class:
    D:\uni\2005 Sem2\cse12ipj\assignment\HabitatModule.java:12: cannot find symbol
    symbol: class Module
    public class HabitatModule extends Module
    ^
    1 error
    Tool completed with exit code 1
    I've compiled the Module class and it doesn't have any errors. I'm guessing that there's something wrong with the classpath variable. Is that right? I'm using java 5.0.

    This is the base class. It compiles fine.
    public abstract class Module
    private char type;
    private String axisCode;
    private Module moduleList;
    abstract int getSpareCapacity();
    When I compile this next class, the compiler on my PC says that the class Module can't be found:
    D:\uni\2005 Sem2\cse12ipj\assignment\Habitat.java:12: cannot find symbol
    symbol: class Module
    public class Habitat extends Module
    ^
    1 error
    Tool completed with exit code 1
    public class Habitat extends Module
    private class Person
    private String name;
    private int id;
    private String speciality;
    private int maxPeople;
    private int nrPeople;
    private char subType;
    private Person personList;
    private String purpose;
    public Habitat(int maxPeople, char subType, String purpose)
    this.maxPeople = maxPeople;
    nrPeople = 0;
    this.subType = subType;
    this.purpose = purpose;
    public int getSpareCapacity()
    return maxPeople - nrPeople;
    If I compile it on any other machine, it's fine. I was looking on the web, and the CLASSPATH doesn't have to be changed for classes in the same directory.

  • Content Library Explorer error -error occurred while trying to read the package metadata (can't find package in console)

    I have SCCM 2012 SP1 recently upgraded to R2. I'm currently setting this up to migrate my production 2007 site. However, I'm trying to use Content Library Explorer on my DP's. I have 3 dps. DP2 connects fine but when i try and connect to DP1 +3 i get
    the following error: An error occurred while trying to read the package metadata. The package
    PackageID is invalid and must be redistributed from the Configuration Manger console.
    Now i can't find any trace of this at all in the console. In the SMSPackagesHist table i can see the package ID and the deleted time was 29-07-2013. This most likely was me trying to create software updates back last year when i initially setup the site.
    The package is not listed as content on any of the 3 DPs and i can't find any trace of it at all in the console.
    I'm not very familiar with 2012, so not sure what I've done.
    Any help or advice appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Torsten,
    thanks for this. I did a search of the WMI key and found this document: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2012/05/07/troubleshooting-content-mismatch-warnings-on-a-distribution-point-in-system-center-2012-configuration-manager.aspx (does
    this mean it is supported?)
    however, on those 2 DP's in that class, the suspect package ID is not listed!???
    Any more ideas?

  • [SOLVED] can't find package lib32-multilib

    I have to install "lib32-multilib" package on archlinux but I can't seem to find it in on the mirror servers here:
    https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sor … =&flagged=
    Not even one package is named lib32-multilib. Does "multilib" means I have to install them all?

    This I guess.
    If something else is missing, you can extract the installer, then run ldd on the files and install the multilib packages for all missing libraries, e.g.
    LC_ALL=C find ~/Downloads/bricscad -type f -exec ldd "{}" + 2>/dev/null | grep found
    to find the package for the file, you can use pkgfile (from extra). If you can't find it, search in the AUR for lib32-lib... (cower is good here for partial searches)

  • Compiler can not find javax.xml.bind package classes

  • Java server page compiler can not find a class defined in a java bean file

    I have a jsp file using java bean. The java bean class file is uploaded into the server and also the directory to this java bean .class file is included in the Unix environment CLASSPATH. This .jsp file is registered and should be compiled and excecuted automatically.
    WHen I try to invoke this .jsp file, the jsp compiler error, saying the class defined by java bean can not be found. I already include this path in teh CLASSPATH, I thought the jsp compiler will go to the right place according to CLASSPATH to find the referenced class.
    Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong or what should I do in order to allow jsp compiler to find the class refrenced by .jsp file and defined by java bean file?
    Thank you so much

    hello friends,
    i am also facing the same problem of not finding bean class files for both jsp and servlet though it is placed in same package. the problem of not finding bean class file for jsp is experienced in Tomcat server only whereas in Blazix, there is no such error and the file is compiled and runs successfully.
    i have checked Tomcat properly. there is no error in its configuration also servlets without the use of bean files run successfully. so please can anybody guide me about what is the problem and how to solve it. plz its urgent .

  • Please help with bean package problem - serlvet can't find package

    Hi,
    I'm fairly new to java web development, and I can't make any good learning progress due to an error I just can't seen to fix. It seems humiliatingly trivial, but I can't get past it.
    Explanation:
    I'm experimenting with beans, and I've created a very simple servlet called AppSetup to create a LinkBean instance and store it in the servlet context for later retrieval. My problem is that the servlet wont compile because it's telling me the package in which the LinkBean class file is in doesn't exist.
    The servlet is in package org, and the bean is in package org.bean. This is the import statement in the servlet:
    Code:
    import org.bean.*;I've also tried:
    Code:
    import org.bean.LinkBean;and
    Code:
    import bean.*;I've tried all sorts of different package structures, but I get the same following error for all of them:
    Quote:
    C:\tomcat\webapps\chub\WEB-INF\classes\org>javac AppSetup.java
    AppSetup.java:14: package org.bean does not exist
    import org.bean.*;
    ^
    AppSetup.java:19: cannot find symbol
    symbol : class LinkBean
    location: class org.AppSetup
    LinkBean lb;
    ^
    AppSetup.java:23: cannot find symbol
    symbol : class LinkBean
    location: class org.AppSetup
    lb = new LinkBean();
    ^
    3 errors
    edit
    Server is Tomcat 5.5
    Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

    The bean class has to be in the classpath. The classpath variable informs the compiler\jvm where to find the .class files that are being referred.
    To set a classpath,
    javac -classpath C:\tomcat\webapps\chub\WEB-INF\classes;C:\tomcat\webapps\chub\WEB-INF\lib;C:\tomcat\common\lib;.; AppSetup.javaThere are 3 paths in the classpath variable above.
    1.\WEB-INF\classes => Your class files
    2. \WEB-INF\lib => Your app library files (.jar files)
    3. \common\lib => common library .jar files
    4 The dot (.) => current directory.
    Read about classpaths [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/tooldocs/windows/javac.html]here

    Hi Ernesto,
    Can you try to the following:
    1. Remove your JDBC driver entries from the CLASSPATH.
    2. Put those jars into your jre/lib/ext directory.
    3. Restart the whole adapter engine, and
    4. Config the driver java class for the adapter. the class name to be used can be found in your JDBC driver document.
    Let me know whether it works.

    pauseI believe the school computer uses j2se sdk 1.4.2 and that's what I have installed on my computer.
    I believe the error I am getting is saying that the compiler can't find the javax.ejb class. Is this a correct assumption?
    If so, why? Do I have the wrong java version? Does it have to do with the classpath? I am at a loss and have tried downloading j2se sdk 1.5 and j2ee sdk 1.4 and still get the same error.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I am still trying to find the package javax.ejb. Can anyone please explain what directory I would find this package. I can find the javax directory but I don't see the ejb package included. Should it be listed where I can see it,, or is it something that is down in the directory further? If it should be present in the javax package and I'm not seeing it, can I download just that package from somewhere?
    Thanks in advance for any help. I'm sure that I'm doing something basic wrong so please don't be afraid to give me the most basic help. I have tried downloading J2SE SDK 1.4.2, J2SE SDK 1.5, and J2EE SDK 1.4 and always get the error saying the compiler can' find javax.ejb.
    I'm almost positive the code is fine because it ran on the school computer, but I'm still not ruling that out.
