Jdev 11g AD / View Objects - update and populate web service data contro

Hi Experts....
Looking for the best approach here.
I am hoping that someone can provide me some thoughts / guidance around the best way to achieve populating a webservice data control from a view object.
Basically I have created an application pulling data from source tables using ADF BC VO's. I am going to put a command button 'Update Record', that will open up a dialog with a web service data control.
I am hoping to be able to populate the data control fields, with values from the selected record VO.
I am tipping at this stage, I will need to do this programatically?
Is this the recommended approach?
Any examples of code?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!
Simo

Should be similar to this:
http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/2011/03/passing_parameters_between_web.html
But the first page would get the data from the VO instead of Webservice.
Since you are using PL/SQL API in the database to do the update, it might be more efficient to just have an AM service method that uses the existing JDBC connection/transaction and calls this PL/SQL stored procedures and passes info from the VO.

  • View Objects , whereclauseparam and PERFORMANCE in JSP

    We experience that using the method setWhereClauseParam gives VERY BAD performance in our JSP applications.
    According to JDev team and others, "best practice" is to use setWhereClauseParam(s), so we wonder why the performance degrade significantly compared to a simpler approach (=define the whereclause when the datasource is created). To avoid the shared pool to grow we were tempted to use the recommended best-practice-parameter-binding approach, but due to performance we had to drop that idea.
    Our JSP (pseudo) code look like this:
    <jbo:ApplicationModule id="am" .......
    <jbo:DataSource id="ds" appid="am" viewobject="ourView" rangesize="0"/>
    <%
    ViewObject ourVo= ds.getApplicationModule().FindViewObject("ourView");
    ourVo.setWhereClauseParam(0, 'xxx');
    ourVo.setWhereClauseParam(1, 'yyy');
    %>
    <jbo:RowsetIterate datasource="ds" >
    bla bla bla ..
    </jbo:RowsetIterate>
    THIS IS SLOW !! ..... compared to:
    <jbo:ApplicationModule id="am" .......
    <% String clause = "Col1 = 'xxx' and Col2 = 'yyy' %>
    <jbo:DataSource id="ds" appid="am" whereclause='<%= clause %>' viewobject="LabelHeadersView" rangesize="0"/>
    <jbo:RowsetIterate datasource="ds" >
    bla bla bla ..
    </jbo:RowsetIterate>
    We get the same results but the last method is times 100 faster ??
    Any ideas are appreciated .
    Thanks, Jens

    OK. I believe I now know what the culprit it. It is your use of the where clause fragment:
    (pdk_files_id = ? OR ? IS NULL)
    Here's how I arrived at this (while at the same time ruling BC4J out of the picture as a potential cause of the problem).
    I following the steps below:
    [list]
    [*]Connected as SCOTT in SQLPlus, I create the table:
    CREATE TABLE files( pdk_files_id NUMBER PRIMARY KEY, name VARCHAR2(20));
    [*]I insert one row into the new files table:
    INSERT INTO files values (1111, 'SteveTest');
    COMMIT;
    [*]I connect as SYSTEM, an run the script ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/plustrce.sql to create the SQL*Plus PLUSTRACE role so that SCOTT will be able to use the SQLPlus AutoTrace feature
    [*]As SYSTEM still, I ran the command: GRANT PLUSTRACE TO SCOTT
    This gives SCOTT the privilege to use the SQL*Plus autotrace command
    [*]I connect as SCOTT, and run the script ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlxplan.sql
    this created the plan table in my SCOTT schema needed to run the autotrace feature
    [*]In SQLPLUS, still connected as SCOTT I issue the command:
    SET AUTOTRACE ON EXPLAIN
    [*]Then I do the following to create a SQL*Plus bind variable
    VAR v VARCHAR2(20)
    [*]And then do the following to set its value at the SQL*Plus command prompt:
    EXEC :v := '1111';
    [list]
    Finally, I try some different queries and look at the autotrace output:
    SQL> select * from files where pdk_files_id = 1111
      2  /
    PDK_FILES_ID NAME
            1111 SteveTest
    Execution Plan
       0      SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE
       1    0   TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'FILES'
       2    1     INDEX (UNIQUE SCAN) OF 'SYS_C003006' (UNIQUE).
    This shows that using the literal value 1111 uses the index.
    SQL> select * from files where (pdk_files_id = 1111 or 1111 is null)
      2  /
    PDK_FILES_ID NAME
            1111 SteveTest
    Execution Plan
       0      SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE
       1    0   TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'FILES'
       2    1     INDEX (UNIQUE SCAN) OF 'SYS_C003006' (UNIQUE).
    This shows that using the literal values together with the OR clause, still uses the index.
    SQL> select * from files where (pdk_files_id = :v)
      2  /
    PDK_FILES_ID NAME
            1111 SteveTest
    Execution Plan
       0      SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE
       1    0   TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'FILES'
       2    1     INDEX (UNIQUE SCAN) OF 'SYS_C003006' (UNIQUE).
    Using my ":v" bind variable I defined, it uses the index, too, even though the type of the bind variable is VARCHAR2 and the type of the PDK_FILES_ID column is NUMBER. This is because this is a simple enough case for the database to do automatic type coersion to convert my string value '1111' for the bind variable into the number value 1111 and then use that for the index lookup.
    HOWEVER, when I try the case that simulates what you are doing in BC4J, which is using a bind variable together with the OR clause for the NULL test, we see...
    SQL> select * from files where (pdk_files_id = :v OR :v IS NULL)
      2  /
    PDK_FILES_ID NAME
            1111 SteveTest
    Execution Plan
       0      SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE
       1    0   TABLE ACCESS (FULL) OF 'FILES'.
    So in this case, the database DOES NOT use the index, and hence explains why your query is slow.
    I believe the database works this way because when it hard-parses the SQL statement, it is at this time that it determines the query plan for the SQL statement. The plan needs to remain stable since the same plan will be cached and reused for all uses of the same parsed SQL statement, so the plan cannot be conditional based on the values of the bind variables. Since it cannot decide without knowing the value of the bind variable, it apparently disqualifies your index from being used.
    Even introducing an optimizer hint only improves the problem a little. I tried this example:
    SQL> select /*+INDEX (files sys_c003006)*/ *
      2  from files where (pdk_files_id = :v or :v IS NULL)
      3  /
    PDK_FILES_ID NAME
            1111 SteveTest
    Execution Plan
       0      SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=826 Card=5 Bytes=125)
       1    0   TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'FILES' (Cost=826 Card=5 Bytes=125)
       2    1     INDEX (FULL SCAN) OF 'SYS_C003006' (UNIQUE) (Cost=26 Card=82).
    In this case it still has to fully scan the index where above it was able to do a unique scan.
    MORAL OF THE STORY:The tiny cost of having two different View Objects in your application, one to use when you want to find by PDK_FILES_ID, and one to use when you want to find by your other key criteria, is well worth the performance improvement that can be had by using bind variables and using them in a way that the database will use the index.
    As Tom Kyte says in his excellent book Expert One on One: Oracle in a passage that made me laugh:
    "If I were going to write a book about building Oracle applications that do not scale, "Don't Use Bind Variables" would be the first and last chapter." :-)
    So, by using a few design-time-created view objects that uses bind variables and avoid the use of the (COL = ? OR ? IS NULL) construct, you get the following benefits:
    [list]
    [*]The database doesn't have to hard-parse your SQL statement each time you execute it (which it does if you keep sending queries that have literal values in the SQL statement, making each query different as far as the SGA is concerned)
    [*]The indexes will get used correctly as we saw above
    [*]Your code actually might be clearer, since you can name one of your view objects "FindFileById" and the other one "FindFileByName", or what have you
    [list]
    Hope this helps.

    How would you create validation logic at the view object level and not at the entity object level? I have many VOs that reference the same EO and want some validation logic to be applied only to certain VOs.

    My use case for this is to perform form validation inputted by the user via a JSPX page.

    They are not a supported carrier. You'll have to take it up with them.

  • Mobile app based on web service data control and VO with VC runtime error

    Hi,
    Jdev 11.1.2.3.0 + mobile extension.
    Windows 7, 64 bit.
    Reproduceable with Android emulator but not on iOS and iOS emulator.
    I can not test on real Android device because we do not have it in our office.
    So I don't know wether this issue is related to android emulator only or to android in general.
    Also not reproduceable by Oracle support.
    I have a VO "Employees" with a VC "department_id = :departmentIdVariable" and exposed the find method for this VO via service interface in AM.
    (see demo video from https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/developing_with_oracle_adf_mobile?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook).
    In a ADF mobile app I create a parameter form and amx:listView like demoed in the mentioned video.
    Whenever I test this app on android emulator I get the error below.
    Exact the same page used in a second feature works fine.
    I found out that the problem only occures on the first attept (this means when I open the page on the second feature first then this will fail and the subsequent call of the first page will be successfull).
    The problem does not occure when the web service data control does not contain a method based on VC with bind variable.

    Does anyone has seen the above error ?
    I have recreated the model and mobile app more than 20 times, re-installed Jdev, re-created Jdev settings (integrated WLS & Co), ran the web services on a different machine.
    On my site this problem is 100% reproduceable with android emulator.
    regards
    Peter

    Hi, Peter, this could be an issue with proxy server setting. Are you behind a firewall when you test this?
    iOS simulator would use Mac's proxy setting. Android Emulator has its own proxy setup - it's a bit complicated to get to and varies based on the Android emulator you are using. For 4.1 emulator (you should always use 4.x or above emulators), you would need to go into the emulator itself, and go to settings - Wireless & Networks - click More... - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names. You should see an Access point used by the emulator to simulate network connection. Mine says "T-Mobile US". You click on it, and then you can select the proxy attribute and set it according to your office's settings.
    Hope that resolves the issue.
    Thanks,
    Joe Huang

    Create a Web Service Data control using the WSDL url, generated from the PSFT end.
    The Data control creates successfully. The problem is:
    - In the service operation method (in the data control) the request parameter is shown as an Object.
    - The entry under the service operation parameter tree, is 'paramater'
    The data control looks like:
    - <datacontrolname>
    - <serviceOperationName>_parameters
    - parameter
    - CAREER
    - CLASS_NBR
    - INSTITUTION
    - SUBJECT
    - TERM
    - <serviceOperationName>(Object)
    - Parameters
    - parameter
    - Return
    - <Return type>
    The return type shows up fine, with collections in hierarchy of a depth of tree.
    How do I create a parameter form for this data control.

    Hi,
    In this usecase , you can DnD the <serviceOperationName>_parameters as an ADF from. Then DnD the operation as a method. The methods input arg value is automatically set to the parameterIterator.currentRow.DataProvider. This works fine.

  • InfoPath 2010 and REST web services, custom code button firing twice and second click fires error

    Hi,
    I have two supposing simple issues which I'm having problems correcting.
    If a add a button to the form and write some custom code (See below) to submit some data via a REST Web Service data connection. The code runs but somehow fires the URL twice to the web service.
    I've also recreated similar functionality using Rules on a button and some concat formulas and exactly the same thing happens when I the run the data using the Query Data Action, it fires the URL twice at the web service.
    How can I stop this.
    Secondly, if I use the custom code route, it work correctly the first time it pressed except for the double fire issue, but the second time I click the button the InfoPath internal system throws up an issue. See screen shot below.

  • Adding an Array of Objects into an external Web-Service

    Hi all,
    I want to populate an Array of Objects into an external Web-Service which I have introspected into BPM. But I am finding it difficult to do so which should be very easy I guess.
    When i use the EXTEND keyword for adding the array of objects, it gives me the following parameters which are not required:-
    testArray.records.extend(name : "", attributes : null, value : "", children : {  }, tagName : "", namespace : "", isNil : false);
    I only need to populate the name and value pairs and do not need to populate others. But there is no way for me to do this.. How do I populate other parameters or skip them especially
    children which is a Fuego.Xml.XMLObject[].. How do I populate that? How do I populate attributes which is an associative array and not required..
    Is there a proper documentation of consuming external Web-Services into BPM?

    Very interesting, I am going to have to really break this down and see if I can make sense out of it with my 300 lines of code LOL.
    I think this may jsut work at first glance and will let you know!
    It works. We all use it all of the time. The old Add-Member was a big pain in the neck.  InPowerShell V2 New-Object -Property ws added to take a hash of name/value pairs and convert them into an object in one step.  It is faster and more reliable.
    $myprops=@{
        Name='joe'
        Birthdate=[datetime]'02-12-1965'
        Weight=[int]130
        Married=$false
        Flags=[byte]0x3F
    # we can change a value on the fly
    $myprops.Weight+=5  # adjust weight for liars
    New-Object PsObject -Property $myprops
    OR get name=value pairs from a file and make into an object
    $fileprops=Get-Content mydata.txt | ConvertFrom-StringData
    New-Object PsObject -Property $fileProps
    There are more than a dozen other variations of how to levcerage this to create objects out of other things like results from old DOS commands.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    If I try to create a REST WS Datacontrol, it shows error:
    NoClassDefFoundError in o.adf.model.connection.url.HttpUrlConnection:146
    Entire stack trace is attached.
    Please let me know if these are known issues and if there is any workaround.
    Thanks

    Don't see any way to attach file. So here is the entire trace:

  • Front End internal and external web services

    Hi all,
    Can someone explain the purpose of internal and external web services URL in front end server. what does it do and what is it used for? and why the external traffic goes directly to it and not through reverse proxy?
    Thanks,

    They're for multiple purposes.  Address books, autodiscovery, meeting urls, mobile clients, etc.  There are two because they respond slightly differently based on whether the client is internal or external.  External traffic should always reach
    it through a reverse proxy, that reverse proxy should proxy traffic received on port 443 to port 4443 on your front end pool.

  • How to Create and Deploy Web Services Using Oracle 9i JDeveloper

    Hi,
    My Question is how to create and deploy Web Services using Oracle 9i JDeveloper.Anybody please give me a detailed Reply.Please Reply to [email protected]
    Hopr to Hear From you,
    Regards,
    G Sreekumar

    You could use datasources. You should do this in your BC4J Configuration. Then when deploying your applicaiton use the command -installDataSource (from admin.jar) to create the right datasource.
    You could probably use the name of your connection + "DS" so you can also use it locally in JDeveloper as JDev seesm to create this automaticly for your Connections.

  • SSO and ABAP Web Services

    I am opening this thread on behalf of my colleague Bala regarding SSO and ABAP Web Services.
    We have gone through single sign on options and found several options are available within 5.0.
    We would like to know the options available for SAP ABAP web services access from a Non-SAP system with user authorization but without Portal/ITS installation.
    Also I would like to avoid any hard coding of user id in Non-SAP system .
    Could you provide any information.
    Thanks,
    Bala

    We have gone through single sign on options and found several options are available within 5.0.
    Tell me what are the several options and what is your Non-SAP system?
    without Portal/ITS installation.
    ITS is now an integral part of ECC 5.0 system. So would not need a seperate installation, unlike earlier versions.

  • Standard Web Service and Customized Web Services with or without PI?

    Hi All,
    I want to know how I can use Standard Web Service available in SAP  and customized Web Services
    without PI Interface?
    And what is the best practice to expose services ,via PI Interface or directly?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Pushkar

    This is purely based on your requirement. If you use PI middleware to expose web services, you get standard functionalities such as certificate authentication, logging, message reprocessing for the failed messages etc.  If your requirement is so simple, then you might not need PI. In this case you can develop simple webdynpro for abap program to create webservice and expose the webservice in ECC webservice runtime. You can let anyone to consume within your network. other ways like exposing BAPI/RFC as webservice.  I would recommend going with PI.

  • Timestamp Error when calling Encrypt and Signed Web Service

    Hello,
    I maked one Web Service in the Oracle Service Bus 10gR3 that supports Encryption and Sign, basically inserting (manually) this on WSDL Contract:
    This two namespaces:
    xmlns:wsu="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-utility-1.0.xsd"
    xmlns:wsp="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/09/policy"
    This Declarations:
    <wsp:UsingPolicy Required="true"/>
    <input>
    <wsp:Policy>
    <wsp:PolicyReference URI="policy:Encrypt.xml"/>
    </wsp:Policy>
    <soap:body use="literal" />
    </input>
    <wsp:Policy>
    <wsp:PolicyReference URI="policy:Sign.xml"/>
    </wsp:Policy>
    The above declarations was inserted in the correct points inside the WSDL Contract and the Web Service is working correctly.
    The Problem is related to Sign.xml declaration, when i insert this declaration:
    <wsp:Policy>
    <wsp:PolicyReference URI="policy:Sign.xml"/>
    </wsp:Policy>
    Then, the Web Service shows an error. Following the Request and Resonse (That shows the error):
    Request:
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:ger="http://www.abc.com.br/Service">
    <soapenv:Header/>
    <soapenv:Body>
    <ger:gerarHashSenha>
    <arg0>123456</arg0>
    </ger:gerarHashSenha>
    </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>
    Response:
    <env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
    <env:Header/>
    <env:Body>
    <env:Fault>
    <faultcode>env:Server</faultcode>
    *<faultstring>Can not retrieve header: {http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-utility-1.0.xsd}Timestamp</faultstring>*
    </env:Fault>
    </env:Body>
    </env:Envelope>
    Observation: I was invoking the WebService using the soapUI Tool.
    I Tryed change the request to bellow code, but doesn't work:
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:ger="http://www.abc.com.br/Service" xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
    <soapenv:Header>
    <wsse:Security soapenv:mustUnderstand="1" xmlns:wsse="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-secext-1.0.xsd">
    <wsu:Timestamp wsu:Id="Timestamp-447" xmlns:wsu="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-utility-1.0.xsd">
    <wsu:Created>2010-05-27T21:40:55.667Z</wsu:Created>
    <wsu:Expires>2010-05-27T21:41:55.667Z</wsu:Expires>
    </wsu:Timestamp>
    </wsse:Security>
    </soapenv:Header>

    </ger:gerarHashSenha>
    </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>

  • EBS11i to provide Web services and receive Web services

    Our corporate direction is to have all major systems internal has to communicate to each other using web services. No more using pl/sql, dblink, FTP to communicate.
    we are using EBS 11i.
    1) Is that possible to have our EBS 11i able to receive web service call and make web service call to other systems?
    2) Will 'Oracle AS Adapter for Oracle Applications' is the solution for this? is this adapter install at EBS box to receive web service call and make web service call to other systems?

    Hi,
    WebDynPro Java/ABAP are primarily User Interface technologies. Webservices are faceless (without UI ) components that provide certain functionality. Using UI technologies like WebDynPro Java/ABAP etc, we can build a face( UI ) to the webservices.
    DnyPro itself means a screen & WebDynPro is for building web based applciations.
    Hope this resolves your question.
    Well, if you still want to use it as provider & if you have an existing web-service, the way to do it is, Right click on your WebDynPro ABAP component & select CREATE->Service Call. Build a Custom Controller or use the Component Controller to get the service using service type = Webservice proxy for your webservice. You can use this Component as a Used component in any other webdynpro components & use this to access webservices.
    Thanks,
    Phani
