JDeveloper 11g - ADF BC Question (link b/w ViewObjects and EntityObjects)

I am very inclined to having more knoweledge about ADF BC and how View Objects link and interact with Entity Objects.
My question is this:
What happens when I insert a row into the view object, then I requery the VO without saving or anything?
When I re-query and insert another row, I believe the EntityObject is retaining the first row that I entered. I tried clearing the EntityCache but it complained that it cannot clear modified rows.
Is there any other way to remove the first row I inserted ?
Mark

Hi,
on the Row itself, type rowHandle.refresh(Row. ...) to see the refresh options that would also remove newly added rows. Note that different refresh options can be or'ed together

  • JDeveloper 11g & ADF: supported version of svn server/client question

    Hi all,
    I would like to setup a repository for our dev team, we are coming from jdev 10g with svn server 1.3.2 and tortise svn 1.4.8. After reading through John Stegeman's ADF Development Essentials documents, I noticed this article was published back in 2008 and the supported version at that time was 1.4x. What is the current supported svn server and client (i would like to use tortise svn in conjunction with jdev plugin) version for JDeveloper 11g?
    Thanks,
    Wes

    Check out this: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-091111.html
    For 11.1.1.4:
    Subversion 1.5, SVNKit 1.2
    Subversion 1.6 2 , SVNKit 1.3 2
    GNU CVS 1.11, CVSNT 2.5

  • JDeveloper 11g/ADF Faces Rich Client

    Hello,
    We are trying to decide between using JDeveloper 10.1.4 and JDeveloper 11g for developing a new application - we plan to use just the ADF Faces layer of the ADF Framework along with Spring and TopLink for other layers.
    On one hand we think that is is safer to use 10.x version of ADF Faces as it may be more stable and on the other hand we are tempted to use 11g as it provides Ajax-enabled JSF Components.
    Has anyone used ADF Faces Rich Client Framework for developing applications? Is it stable enought to be used for production-level applications?
    I would love to hear your thoughts!

    Hi,
    don't use 10.1.3.4 to develop a new application now unless you have browser constraints with your user-base.
    ADF Faces RC / 11g requires:
    FireFox 2, 3
    Internet Explorer 7.0
    Safari 3.0
    11g is a significant update and they have vastly improved/redesigned a lot of things that were difficult/complex to do in earlier versions.
    Plus the 11g user interface is way better from a users perspective.

    Hi,
    I tried downloading the latest Jdev 11g Tech Preview - 3 from the link mentioned on the site : "Download Oracle JDeveloper 11g Technology Preview 3 - Java EE, SOA and WebCenter Development". But the page always times out.
    Is there an issue from my side here or someone else also facing the same problem ?

    Hi,
    Figured that the problem was because I was using Mozilla Firefox. It works with IE. ( But what about browser neutrality? ;) )

  • JDeveloper 11g ADF and application servers

    I am new to JDeveloper and have enjoyed the 11g but I am concerned about deployment of my code. Can I deploy an 11g ADF application to Oracle Application Server 10gAS version 10.1.2.0.2 or will I need to request an upgrade of the server which will be hard to accomplish?
    Thanks :)

    Hi,
    In theory you can but you have to be careful what you are doing.
    I wouldn't encourage you to do this.
    You can't use the new ADF rich faces if you plan to deploy to an older OAS. You have to be careful to select the right JDK while developing (11g uses 1.6.x).
    I'm not sure that you can start a new project in 11g using the older Oracle stuff entirely.
    So if you plan to use the new features try to get an update to WLS 10g R3.

  • Jdeveloper 11g adf app and frames

    We have an existing html web page that has top and bottom frames.
    The buttons in the top frame when clicked show the corresponding page in the bottom frame.
    Button1 Button2 <<<<< top frame
    "Employee Maint" link << bottom frame
    In one of these bottom pages, "Employee Maint" link is there. When clicked pulls up a Jdev Application in the bottom frame.
    Earlier Jdev/adf app was not showing up in the bottom frame. So "frame buster" was needed. Now it shows ok inside the bottom frame.
    But now, after the Jdeveloper page is loaded, when we try to use the "Button1 or Button2" in the top frame to pull up other pages it does not work.
    (this could be because of the "frame buster").
    This works well in IE but an issue with Safari/Chrome/Firefox.
    Is there any solution for this so that the top buttons continue to work even after clicking on the Jdeveloper App.(that uses frame buster)
    Thanks

    Hi,
    just clarifying.
    Need is "How do we undo the framebusting inside the ADF application after the ADF page is loaded in the frame".
    Thanks

  • JDev 11g ADF Tree question on programmatically expand and select node

    I have two questions:
    1. I'm trying to automatically expand the first level tree nodes upon display of the tree. I tried to initialize a RowKeySetImpl object, and added ArrayList of first level nodes, and used setDisclosedRowKeys method. The tree nodes are not rendered properly. If I take the following code out, then the tree content is rendered properly. Here is my code. I have three nodes that I want to expand.
    ArrayList node1 = new ArrayList();
    node1.add(new Integer(0));
    ArrayList node2 = new ArrayList();
    node2.add(new Integer(1));
    ArrayList node3 = new ArrayList();
    node3.add(new Integer(2));
    RowKeySetImpl expand = new RowKeySetImpl();
    expand.add(node1);
    expand.add(node2);
    expand.add(node3);
    this.mainTree.setDisclosedRowKeys(expand);
    2. I have a Panel Splitter, on the first facet, it contains a tree, on the second facet it will be either 'task list', or 'edit task'. When user selects a task in the 'task list', I would like to display 'edit task', while highlight the selected 'task' node on the tree.
    In respond to the ActionListener of the command link (each command link corresponds to task):
    1. How do I determine the properly node in the tree?
    2. I constructed a RowKeySetImpl object and called setSelectedRowKeys. But I get messagebox saying "To display the webpage again, Internet Explorer needs to resend the information you've previously submitted." If I clicked Retry button, the message box just gets displayed again. If I cancel, the node I hardcoded does get selected properly.
    Please help me!
    Thanks,

    I believe this has already been fixed in our main code branch. I will enter a boxer bug and make sure that the fix gets backported to boxer so that it is available in the next boxer patch. If I remember correctly, the issue had to do with trees with a large display area (with default fetchSize of 25). The issue is that the tree has to make multiple round trips to the server in order fill the visible area (view port) on the page.
    Do either of the following workarounds work:
    1) Set a fetchSize attribute on the af:tree tag larger than 25 (<af:tree fetchSize="75">). You may want to increase the rangeSize in your pageDef file as well so that the model rangeSize matches the view fetchSize.
    2) Shrink the size of the tree on the page so that it does not have to make multiple round trips to the server to fill it's view port.

  • What previous knowledge need to learn oracle jdeveloper 11g (adf faces&jsf)

    hi plz tell me, what are all technologies and languages i want to knew before i learn adf faces with jsf in oracle jdeveloper 11g

    Hi,
    Although the blog post is ok, I would certainly add a good JSF book/tutorial before the "Developing RIA Web Applications with Oracle ADF" part. For even better results, I would add a Trinidad book/tutorial before it as well. If you want to be future proof, add a Facelets tutorial between the JSF and Trinidad part. If you go right away to "Developing RIA Web Applications with Oracle ADF" you'll only make yourself a robot not understanding what happen behind the scene, often resulting in performance and memory issues as well as not so good looking application since you're going to force yourself into the Oracle LaF only.
    For the JSF part, check out http://horstmann.com/corejsf/ and, if you can handle really technical stuff: http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr314/index.html
    For Facelets: https://facelets.dev.java.net/nonav/docs/dev/docbook.html and http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/library/j-facelets/
    For Trinidad: http://myfaces.apache.org/trinidad/devguide/index.html

  • DISTINCT in SELECT statements for  Entities / Views - Oracle JDeveloper 11G

    Hi Steve,
    i have a question about using DISTINCT in SELECT statements for
    Entities / Views. On Oracle JDeveloper 11G ADF / BC4J
    --- This is unique---
    SELECT
    distinct(GC."course_title"),
    GC.SEC_GRP_PARENT_ID,
    from "grp_courses" GC
    --- This is NOT unique, but ROWID seems to be mandatory as PrimaryKey---
    SELECT
    distinct(GC."course_title"),
    GC.SEC_GRP_PARENT_ID,
    rowid
    from "grp_courses" GC
    How to use this query;
    SELECT
    distinct(GC."course_title"),
    GC.SEC_GRP_PARENT_ID,
    from "grp_courses" GC
    and yet still be able to use it in View / Entity without a Primary Key or some equivalent solution.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi, OK - I got it to work...
    Some notes:
    1) The View wizard cannot be initiated from the Entity Object.
    2) During the View wizard process - do not associate with Entity
    3) Selected columns must be mapped as expressions
    4) Using non-distinct columns will override the distinct function

  • JDevLibsForAnt and JDeveloper 11g (Jan Vervecken)

    Hi All (especially Jan, if you're listening),
    I'm currently working on the ANT article for my [url http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/adf-development-essentials/index.html]ADF Essentials series on OTN. I found the jDevLibsForAnt extension quite useful under JDev 10.1.3.x, and I'd like to use it and refer to its use in the article.
    A specific question for Jan - have you updated it for 11g? If not, do you plan to? If not, do you mind if I do?
    You can reply directly to this thread, or if its more convenient, my e-mail is firstname <dot> lastname <at> gmail.com.
    Best,
    John

    hi John
    Updating the JDevLibsForAnt JDeveloper extension for JDeveloper 11g is something I would like to do soon, but I don't know exactly when.
    The file JDevLibsForAntApps-v0.02.zip also contains source files. Feel free to work with that if it applies to JDeveloper 11g. You might want to change names and namespaces if you plan on publishing anything.
    regards

  • How to create a proxy of BPEL process(to initiate it) in Jdeveloper 11G

    Hi All,
    I am badly stuck in creating proxy of BPEL process developed in Jdeveloper 10G. It was working fine in 10G. But in 11G I am not able to do it. Even creating a
    JAX-RPC mapping file is disabled in 11G. So could any one help me out. Even I want to know is there any other process to initiate a BPEL process from 11G. It's very URGENT
    so please help me out.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
    JDeveloper 11g had four technology preview releases (they came with OC4J instead of WebLogic) before production, TP4 is the forth, and SOA components came with it (not out-of-the-box, but had to be installed) including BPEL engine.
    Start from here , there is a metalink note no. 565899.1 where you can find the instructions for installing SOA on JDeveloper 11g TP4.
    So, you need to:
    - download and install [JDeveloper 11g TP4|http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jdev/htdocs/soft11tp.html]
    - install SOA on it (instructions on metalink)
    I used JDeveloper 11g R1 for my application because TP4 had some bugs when working with asynchronous web services.
    Ask away if you have any problems.

  • How to get multiple out parameters from a pl/sql stored procedure in ADF Jdeveloper 11g release2

    I´m trying to call from AppModuleImpl a stored procedure from my oracle DB which receives one input parameter and returns 5 out parameters.
    I´m using jdeveloper 11g release2  ADF and I have created a java bean "ProRecallPlatesBean " with the atributes and accesors and I serialize it. just like in this article http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24382_01/web.1112/e16182/bcadvgen.htm#sm0297
    This is my code so far:
    public ProRecallPlatesBean getCallProRecallPlates(String numPlates) {
    CallableStatement st = null;
    try {
              // 1. Define the PL/SQL block for the statement to invoke
              String stmt = "begin CTS.Pk_PreIn.proRecallPlates(?,?,?,?,?,?); end;";
              // 2. Create the CallableStatement for the PL/SQL block
              st = getDBTransaction().createCallableStatement(stmt,0);
              // 3. Register the positions and types of the OUT parameters
              st.registerOutParameter(2,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(3,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(4,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(5,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(6,Types.VARCHAR);
    // 4. Set the bind values of the IN parameters
    st.setString(1,numPlates);
    // 5. Execute the statement
    st.executeUpdate();
    // 6. Create a bean to hold the multiple return values
    ProRecallPlatesBean result = new ProRecallPlatesBean();
    // 7. Set values of properties using OUT params
    result.setSpfVal(st.getString(2));
    result.setTransportTypeVal(st.getString(3));
    result.setTransportCompanyVal(st.getString(4));
    result.setCompanyDescrVal(st.getString(5));
    result.setDGAPrint(st.getString(6));
    // 8. Return the result
    return result;
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    throw new JboException(e);
    } finally {
    if (st != null) {
    try {
    // 9. Close the JDBC CallableStatement
    st.close();
    catch (SQLException e) {}
    In Jdeveloper I went into AppModule.xml JAVA>Client Interface section and expose "getCallProRecallPlates" Then I can see "getCallProRecallPlates" in Data Controls, I drag and drop it to a JSF page, an input text component and a button are generated in order to put in there the procedure input parameter (numPlates).
    I don't know if I'm on the right track.
    When I click the button, the "result" variable is supposed to be filled with data from the stored procedure. I want each of those values to be displayed in Output text or input text adf components but I dont know how. Thank you very much in advance I´m a newbie and i'll appreciate your help!

    What version are you on?
    Works fine for me on my 11g:
    SQL> create or replace procedure testxml (clob_out out clob)
      2  is
      3     l_clob   clob;
      4     l_ctx    dbms_xmlquery.ctxhandle;
      5  begin
      6     l_ctx := dbms_xmlquery.newcontext ('select * from dual');
      7     l_clob := dbms_xmlquery.getxml (l_ctx);
      8     clob_out := l_clob;
      9     dbms_xmlquery.closecontext (l_ctx);
    10  end testxml;
    11  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL>
    SQL> variable vout clob;
    SQL>
    SQL> exec testxml (:vout)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL>
    SQL> print vout
    VOUT
    <?xml version = '1.0'?>
    <ROWSET>
       <ROW num="1">
          <DUMMY>X</DUMMY>
       </ROW>
    </ROWSET>But definitely you can optimize your proc a bit: Try
    create or replace procedure testxml (clob_out in out nocopy clob)
    is
       l_ctx    dbms_xmlquery.ctxhandle;
    begin
       l_ctx := dbms_xmlquery.newcontext ('select * from dual');
       clob_out := dbms_xmlquery.getxml (l_ctx);
       dbms_xmlquery.closecontext (l_ctx);
    end testxml;

  • ADF - Multple View Objects in one ADF table - Jdeveloper 11g

    Hi,
    I'm using Jdeveloper 11g, is there a way to use multiple view objects in one ADF table? And if so, do you have an example?
    In my case the view objects are not based on a database table they were created based on an ESB wsdl, one is for person and one is for address.
    Any information or pointers you could provide would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    That would be a good solution, however, I'm supposed to see if there is a way to use the VOs that were created for person and address. Even better if the solution requires little coding.
    Is it possible to combine these two VOs into a single VO to use with an ADF table or to use both of them in a single table? Or is there some other solution that would enable me to use the person and address VOs in a similar manner?
    Thanks!
