Jdeveloper OA Ext Simple Search Page Tutorial required

I need to create a very simple search page based on a database table using JDeveloper 9.03 OA Extension. Is there a step by step tutorial to do this? I find the Developer guide is too vast to navigate and has too much information for what I need to do.
Thanks,
Rylan

• Creating a simple search page

Hi all,
I am trying to create a simple search page using Jdeveloper 9.03 OA Framework that will allow the user to search for records in a view based on a few key columns.
Are there any resources available which show a step by step process for doing a simple search? I followed the User Guide as far as being able to create the EOs, VOs and the query page region but I dont know how to get the results of the VO in the query page.
There has got to be an easy way of getting such a apparently simple task done. I get the impression J Developer is unnecessarily complicated... Why couldnt there have been Wizards for common development tasks? It just seems unnecessarily confusing.
I'd appreciate any help on this, no matter how insignificant. Im at an impasse here.
Thanks,
Rylan

Thanks for the reply! That is precisely what I need to do.
I did that, and it worked, but with one major problem... For some reason, it only works on the seeded tables in the AK schema. Those work without any problem. I tried making my own test tables also in the AK schema but when I try to search non AK seeded tables. it errors out. Funny thing is it errors out only when there are records found. If there are no records found the page displays correctly.
Ive tried everything I can think of.
I made a two column table with primary keys, unique indexes, not null conditions, everyting that seemed special about the seeded AK tables to see if I could prevent the error from coming... no luck.
I suspect it is a bug... Has any one ever got this error before?
The error message is :

• JDeveloper 11g: Problem with search page sample

Hello all!
I realized the detailed search page in Oracle JDeveloper 11g Handbook ".
Before, it runned without problem. But for a while, I have the following exception when I run a search:
*Unexpected exception: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException, e = 0.*
I searched the forums, the answers that I had alluded to the types of data in the entity, and in the view. But I checked and the different types of entities are those views.
The error always returns.
I also increased by Size Range in the definition of the page.
But there is nothing. Can anyone help me?
Thank's
Nystan

Hi,
you want at least to give us the page number that has the example you reference. Chances are that some of the experts on OTN own the book and could have a look. When you say "Before, it runned without problem. But for a while, I have the following exception when I run a search:", what did it make change ?

• HELP need simple search page

Hi. I need to build a search page of the database. I think it's a simple search. The "catalog" is set up in the MYSQL database structure into two tables :authors and books: which are relational via ID numbers. The idea is to enter a search term on the search page and come up with a list of results that look like catalog entries. Each catalog entry consists of book, author, picture, and description. The user needs to be able to enter any term, or partial term and come up with entries. How do I do this?
I'm in CS3.

Have a form with form action that goes to script.php on script.php create a recordset and filter entered value against database table field. Then add bindings onto the page to show the results of the filtered recordset. Nest the bindings in a repeat region to display results if there's more than one result available in the search query.

• Catch 22: Learning JDeveloper without a db (tutorial requires connection)

I'm trying to build a database model, to use with XE, to create a web-based application with Apex.
I'm on a Mac. I do not have a windows partition so I cannot run XE. I've ordered a windows based laptop but won't have it for several weeks.
Since I don't have a database on my computer to connect to, I cannot use SQL*Developer.
So, someone suggested I use JDeveloper, to create my tables and database model - on my mac. Fine. After several days, I figured out how to get it running, and I'm trying to go thru the Tutorials.
Particularly, the one titled: Database Development with JDeveloper seemed appropriate.
However, the tutorial requires that I've installed the Oracle Fusion schema, FOD Fusion Order Demo Schema. And, of course, the FOD schema requires - you guessed it - access to an Oracle database!!!
Is there a tutorial around for learning JDeveloper that does NOT required being connected to a database????
Thank you
Marion

Hi,
1 way would be to use a placeholder data control. You can create a placeholder data control, with the same structure of your original table, feed in the data, and use it temporarily. However, this has certain limitation (not many data types, manual data entry etc).

• Error while running OA framework Employee search page

Hi All,
I am new to OA framework.I am trying to create a simple search page on EMP table and DEPT table in SCOTT schema.I have defined EMP and DEPT EO's and VO too.I have also defined association object.When I am trying to run Employee search page it is throwing following error:
"Error(13,8): class chola.oracle.apps.fnd.schema.server.DepartmentEOImpl should be declared abstract; it does not define method setLastUpdateLogin(oracle.jbo.domain.Number) in class oracle.apps.fnd.framework.server.OAEntityImpl"
What I understand from this error is that since my EMP table in Scott schema is not having Last update columns so Jdeveloper did not generate LastUpdateLogin method.Am I correct?If I am correct then it means that I cannot query on any table which does not have WHO columns like Last Update time,Last updated By etc... but that should not be the case.
Can you please guide me where am I going wrong?
Regards

First of all if you dont want to save data then why you have created EO.
For Search Page, only by creating VO you can achieve the functionality. As you VO is based on EO that why it is giving error.
Thanks

• Add WHERE criterias in addition to what the user enters on search page

Hi,
This may be a simple problem, but I have not been able to solve it.....Is there a way for me to code another search criteria in addition to what the user enters?
I'm trying to create a simple search page. Basically, user logs on, i get his acoount number and save it in a variable. Then whatever the user's search criterias are , I want to add "AND ACCOUNT = ???."
I've tried:
In the processRequest, retrieve his account number using a VO, stored account number in variavle x and then call a initQuery(x) for the VO to get only the rows that he should be able to see. Problem A: I get 'SQLStmtException' when I test the page by trying to do a Simple Search. So to fix that, in the VOImpl, I added these two calls -- setWhereClauseParams(null); setWhereClause(null); -- after the executeQuery(). After I did this, ran into Problem B: the user could search any record that wasn't associated with his account.
I also tried to dynamically create the vo using createViewObjectFromQueryStmt("Select * from table where account = " + x) but was not successful. The page didn't render and I received a ClassCastException similar to this thread -- Re: How to Create OAViewObject programatically
I'm new to OAF and would appreciate any pointers on how to implement this.
Thanks,
LL

Hi,
I assume that you haven't tried the following steps..if you have and still get an error, give us the SQL statement error that is coming up. If I misunderstood your requirement, could you elaborate.
I assume that when the user logs in you get the account number automatically.
You could define the VO to have the following where condition 'WHERE ACCOUNT=:1'.
Then you set the account id from the user using setWhereClauseParams(0,accountid) and call executeQuery. This would limit the result to that user.
This will work in addition to any other search fields that might have been used in the query.
For e.g with just the account id the sql that will be fired is
Select attribute1, attribute2....from Tablexxx where account = :1
Any other user search criteria given in the page will result in a ssql query like the following
select * from (Select attribute1, attribute2 ...from Tablexx where accoount = :1) where newattribute like `%xx`
Hope this helps. Let us know if you still have issues.
Thank you,
Arun

• Modifying Simple Search

Hi
I have Created a Search page. one of the field is a date field. now i want to have 2 fields side by side in simple search for the date field
one will be from and other will be To
i.e user can query records by giving the date range.
Using Advance search page This can be done
but Can it be done in the simple search page?

Yes, you can. Check the layouts section of dev guide to get the required format you are looking for.

• How to do a Simple Search?

Hi, I am trying to make a simple search page. Does anyone have an example of a search page.
What I am trying to do is have a user put in some information, press a Execute Query button and they would be able to scroll through the DB records that match their search criteria.

I am able to get the search working on a table - which has an associated data provider to pull data from SQL server 2005. I plan on posting it as a tutorial after some final touches. It allows you to search by any field, as you can guess from the screenshot:

• Search Page based on select Query...

I want to create a simple search page base on a select query.
The select query will not be based on Table.Its based on functions.
I have created a view object like this
select xx_test_accruals(:p_date) ACCRUAL,:p_date DT from dual
I have created a Search page
In Main Page layout region i have added a query region.In that Query region i have created a result based search Table.
When i run the page is opening with field
Dt
When i enter date and click go i am getting error like this..
oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: oracle.jbo.SQLStmtException: JBO-27122: SQL error during statement preparation. Statement: SELECT * FROM (select xx_test_accruals(:p_date) ACCRUAL,:p_date DT from dual) QRSLT WHERE (( UPPER(DT) like :1 AND (DT like :2 OR DT like :3 OR DT like :4 OR DT like :5)))
Please help

Hi,
i tried it on my machine....there's a little change on the approach.
See we have a View Object : XxAccrualsSummaryVO
the query is
select xx_test_accruals(to_date(:1,'YYYY-MM-DD')) ACCRUAL,to_date(:2,'YYYY-MM-DD') DT from dual
Create a Property View Object : say DateTestPVO and in that create a Transient Attribute of DATE type say InputDate. How to create property View Object(read in dev guide).
Bind the date text input to DateTestPVO and InputDate Attribute.
Now as the page loads in process request initialise the PVO not XxAccrualsSummaryVO.
public void initialisePVO()
OAViewObject vo = (OAViewObject)getDatePVO1();
if (!vo.isPreparedForExecution())
vo.setMaxFetchSize(0);
Row row = vo.createRow();
vo.insertRow(row);
row.setNewRowState(Row.STATUS_INITIALIZED);
And when the Go button is pressed then grab the date being entered and set the where clause of XxAccrualsSummaryVO.
if(pageContext.getParameter("Go")!=null)
//Get the value entered by user in date field.
OAMessageDateFieldBean dateField = (OAMessageDateFieldBean)webBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("text");
String datetest = (String)dateField.getValue(pageContext).toString();
//Now set the where clause parameters of VO.
OAViewObject vodate = (OAViewObject)am.findViewObject("invoicetestVO1");
vodate.setWhereClauseParams(null);
vodate.setWhereClauseParam(0,datetest);
vodate.setWhereClauseParam(1,datetest);
vodate.executeQuery();
It works perfectly...I have tested it.
Thanks,
Gaurav

• Why association takes place while designing a OAF search Page?

Hi
I am not getting why they are doing association between Employer and manager while designing a OAF search page.
Search page should work on simple fundamental .I am entering some value and they are showing some search results in the form of table.
Regards
Varun Maheshwari

Hi,
As per my understanding, they might have done association so as to extend that page further to create/update page.
However, you are correct that we can perform simple search operation with using associations.
Here is an example for just simple search page on employee table:

• Controller in Simple Search in Toolbox tutorial

Hi,
I am very new to OA framework.I have just begun by learning from Toolbox tutorial provided in Jdeveloper 9i(I am working in 11.5.10.2).In Create search(simple search) we define Application Module,EO and VO(and other things like Associations).I am not able to understand how does AM gets called when we have not defined the controller.To put it as an example if I am giving 'B%' in empname field and then press "Go" button then how does AM get called?Does the system generate controller for this page on its own? I would be grateful if you can clarify it.
Regards

As per dev guide
Many new OA Framework developers wonder just "how big" a controller should be. Should you have one per page, one per meaningful region (like a "Search" region), one per complex web bean (like a table) -- or what? Unfortunately, the answer is it depends.
First and foremost, in a really simple page, you might not have any controllers (there is no requirement that you create controllers if they have no work to do). If you do need to write code, you should weigh the following carefully before deciding what controllers to create:
the benefits of encapsulation -- ideally, a web bean implements its own behavior
component reuse -- if a component is designed to be shared, it must be self-sufficient> practical code usability -- although a page comprised of eight regions could easily have eight corresponding controllers (each with a few, trivial lines of code), this > "pure" object oriented approach can make code maintenance more difficult, and it can cause unnecessary file bloat in your product
Thanks

• Search Page with TopLink + ADF Faces

Hi,
I develop a project with JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0.3984 using Toplink and ADF Faces.
I test with the embedded OC4J Server.
I must search in a table with 100 000 rows.
I follow the tutorial ADF Faces (Chapter 7) :
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/ADF_tutorial_1013/10131/index.htm
The search page contains a search form with the table of results.
I add a Refresh Condition ${adfFacesContext.postback} that keeps the form from executing the query until the user clicks the search button. (Page 7-10)
It works, but when I launch the search with some parameters, I have a "out of memory" exception, and the good results are displayed in the table.
I activate the Toplink log, make a new research, and I see 2 sql requests.
The first one had the default parameters "%" :
select ... from company where name="%" and cp = "%" and town="%"
The second one had the good parameters written in the search form :
select ... from company where name="Uno%" and cp = "65000" and town="%"
How to avoid the first sql request ?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Greetings

Hi Shay,
Thank for your response. I have followed your advice :
Re: Search Page - Toplink - Double queries
After several tests, I simplify the problem. I think that the problem doesn't come from Toplink but ADF lifecycle.
1 - With JDeveloper, I create a simple named query with two parameters (Toplink).
2 - After, I generate my facade EJB Session Class, add some debug ouputs to see the parameters in the search method and deactivate the code which call the named query (It was not nessary), and create a JSP page using ADF components.
3 - I drag and drop the search method from the data control panel to the jsp page and create a parameter form.
4- I run the application. The search page appears with the parameter form. There is no debug output. When I complete the search form and click on the search button, I see the parameter values in the log console. It's normal.
5- Now, I drag and drop the collection from data control panel to the jsp page and create a ADF Read-Only Table.
6- I complete Refresh condition :
<methodIterator id="searchComp2Iter"
Binds="searchComp2.result"
DataControl="SessionEJBLocal" RangeSize="10"
BeanClass="test.model"
RefreshCondition="${adfFacesContext.postback && ( bindings.argum1 != null) && (bindings.argum2 != null) }"
Refresh="ifNeeded"/>
7- When I launch the application, There is no debug output. The refresh condition works.
8- I fill parameters and I click on the search button. I obtain the log :
07/01/03 11:21:49 TEST 2
07/01/03 11:21:49 argum1 :null
07/01/03 11:21:49 argum2 :null
07/01/03 11:21:49 TEST 2
07/01/03 11:21:49 argum1 :a
07/01/03 11:21:49 argum2 :b
The EJB Session search method is called twice. It's the problem. Why the first call?
9- When I click a second time on the search button, the EJB Session search method is called once.
07/01/03 11:22:03 TEST 2
07/01/03 11:22:03 argum1 :a
07/01/03 11:22:03 argum2 :b
How can I have only one call in paragraph 8 ?
Thank you for your help.

• Pass values to OAF search page (View Purchase Order History)

I need to call a OAF page from a PO Approval Notification. I need to call page View Purchase Order History (func:ICX_PO_REVISIONS).
I am able to create the URL (using function FND_RUN_FUNCTION.get_run_function_url) and when I click on the link it opens the page fine, but it’s a page that contains simple search region and I need to populate the Operating Unit and PO Number fields (I can easily get from the PO) of the search fields, this will allow the user to just click the go button.
Is it possible using the function FND_RUN_FUNCTION.get_run_function_url and passing parameters (field values) or setting the URL to JSP:/OA_HTML/OA.jsp?OAFunc=ICX_PO_REVISIONS&akRegionApplicationId=177&addBreadCrumb=Y&CorePO=Y and then passing the parameters?
How would you achieve this if possible, call the page and populate the search field values? It does not seem to work, I have been able to pass paramaters to an OAF page that does not contain a simple search region to return results.
Function paramaters:
FND_RUN_FUNCTION.get_run_function_url (
p_function_id => 3101,
p_resp_appl_id => 201,
p_resp_id => 50598, -- MS Purcahsing Superuser
p_security_group_id => 0,
p_parameters => 'PoNum=' || l_document_id || '&' || 'retainAM=Y' || '&' || 'addBreadCrumb=Y',
p_override_agent => NULL,
p_org_id => 101,
p_lang_code => NULL,
p_encryptParameters => FALSE);
Thanks,

What I found is there are 2 variables SiteName and SiteName1, if you use SiteName1 then it shows proper value as a site description. I replaced SiteName with SiteName1 and it works. This might help to all who are like me and trying Tutorial example.
I am not sure how many may have tried OAF - Tutorial examples. They are really complicated and not easy and in most cases they are not coming out in first try but if you really try then it will give lot of understanding.
