JFileChooser is different on Mac than other platforms?

Hi all,
I have an app that I developed on windows and tested thoroughly on Linux (don't recall the specific flavor). I've now gained access to a Mac, and find that I can't save my data. I use a JFileChooser, and on the Mac there's no way to enter a file name. I found some Mac specific instructions on programming Java, which councils to use java.awt.FileDialog instead of javax.swing.JFileChooser.
Is there a way to make JFileChooser behave itself on a Mac (that is allow the user to enter a file name)?
If not, I cannot support Mac until the next major release in July 2012. I'd rather do a minor release ASAP to support Mac.'

If you really want someone to blame, then the people who own palm should be somewhere in the firing line, as they have halted any further development on the mac platform despite palm OS once being considered the natural companion of the mac. If you notice in the account setup for palm forums there is as yet still not even an option to choose mac osx 10.5 leopard, and the desktop software is written for PPC computers as opposed to intel ones. If you have an intel mac therefore, it will run really quite slowly.

Palm desktop appearance different in Mac than Windows

My Palm Desktop looks quite different after the software was loaded onto my new iMac. I am using a Z22 and have grown to love my Palm very much and rely on it daily. One feature that I use quite often is the NOTES tab for Contacts. The new desktop on the Mac does not have a tab for notes. The fields for entering data forcontacts is also quite limited.
Is there a way for my Palm Desktop on my iMac to look the same as it did in Windows?

Unable to install iTunes, have Windows 7, different error mssg than others have posted.

I have a new laptop with Windows 7 and IE9. When I try to install iTunes, I can download it, but it won't install. This is the error message: "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the app vendor to verify this is a valid Windows Installer pkg."
HELP! I'm an administrator on the computer, I have tried all the suggestions Apple lists on the support page, and nothing is working.

Neither Apple nor the iTunes installer cares if you have an a/c (I'm assuming that's the lazy way of typing account) when installing iTunes.
If you want/need help, stop trying to be cute, provide the specific details without the short hand.
Otherwise... search for the errors that are being displayed.
Others are more likely to help if you actually put some effort into asking for help.

Safari shows colors different than other browsers and GoLive

Does anyone know why Safari shows colors differently than Firefox, Explorer and Opera, Mozilla and Golive?
For example if I use "websafe" colors in photoshop with 2.2 gamma and sRGBie...2.1 and save, then import into Go Live with the working space the same, North America Web/ Internet, the colors are typically darker, although occasionally they are the same.
I have tried embedded profiles and non embeded.
The difference only happens when I view the page in Safari. By the way I use a mac, GoLive CS2
This is a constant frustration. I have created several tests but have found no satisfactory results. I am in the process of creating a website for teachers who use powerbooks and safari. And this color change really restricts creative possibilities. If the same page is viewed in Firefox it looks like it does in GoLive.

True on Windows Safari and other Windows browsers.
Safari on Mac and other Mac browsers 'assumes, assigns, applies' the Mac's default monitor profile to untagged color.
This is easy to proof here in the sRGB rollover:

If Mac Safari 'assumed' sRGB on untagged files, then the sRGB rollover will have zero change.

Except in Mac browsers that have 1.8 monitor gamma profiled.
The Mac-specific problem with trying to match tagged graphics on matched-color background in Safari is:
1) The color background is untagged and will Assume default Monior RGB.
2) The tagged graphic will be Converted to Monitor RGB.
In other words, if you fill a page with 4bb93c and place a tagged sRGB image, filled with 4bb93c, the two colors won't match up in color-managed Mac web browsers like Mac Safari...however, if you untag the sRGB file, it will disappear on the page, but it will be off color depending how close Monitor RGB is to sRGB profile in Mac browsers.
Windows, on the other hand is a different beast, it Assigns sRGB to untagged color, so tagged/untagged sRGB will be good in all Windows browsers.
At least that is what I have seen here on my Windows Vista Business box.

If you wish to use home sharing then you need to setup the Apple TV under your ID.

Why does ical on icloud have a different lay out than on my mac

Why does iCal on my MacBook Pro have a different lay out than on iCloud? I like the iCloud layout better, the only missing niceties is the year calendar. How do I get both iCals to look the same? The ideal iCal? The one from iCloud WITH the year calendar.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

If the App Store is showing 10.8.5 as an update, what do you currently have installed? The final update to Mountain Lion was 10.8.5, and since the basic OS installation of Mountain Lion is no longer offered in the App Store, that would suggest you're currently at an earlier version of Mountain Lion - 10.8.x where x=less than 5. If that's the case, I'd suggest getting the 10.8.5 update. There is also a Supplemental Update for 10.8.5 and that may be what the App Store is offering.

Dear Venkatesh,
You have asked your question on a Server forum whereas Xcode is really a developer tool and the conversation is more suited to the developer forum. However,
1) Xcode is only useful for developing for Mac OS and iOS. Technically it can compile code for other platforms like Android using the standard compiiler but it's not really designed for that and I wouldn't recommend starting a project that way.
2) Xcode is an IDE but it comes with (free) developer tools like the ones you mentioned, for unit testing, diagnosis of processor and memory usage, corruption testing, instrument testing and other purposes. Also included is a simulator for iOS devices so you can debug your iOS code for all the different devices without needing examples of them all.
3) For Mac OS and iOS, the combination of Xcode and Xcode Server has more and better tools than Jenkins, but, as answered in (1) it's useless for other platforms.

I saw another thread on the matter but thought I would post because the circumstances are different. Here is how it happened.
I have had an Apple Store account for years and until recently our family has only had our one Mac and my iPhone 4. Thus any purchases we have made on the Apple App Store were made only with this account.
We recently purchased two iPhone 5S's--one for my wife and one for my daughter. Neither had Apple IDs so first we set up my wife's iPhone and created an Apple ID for her. Next we used the Family Sharing feature to set up an account for our "under age 13" daughter.
Because I am still waiting for my iPhone 6 Plus to arrive, and because the iPhone 4 cannot upgrade to iOS 8, and because my Apple ID is the only account with any apps that have been purchased in prior years, I set up my wife as the Family Organizer but when I set up her account, I chose the option to "share purchases from a different account" and entered the information for my Apple ID.
My daughter is able to view my prior purchases on her iPhone, but when my wife tries to view my prior purchases, she receives the message "This iTunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than <her Apple ID>."
I hope Apple is reading this. I would be more than willing to help them on this one as this feature is one of the main reasons I put our family on iPhones.

I had this problem. I finally figured it out yesterday. Try this:
On the device that is having trouble seeing purchases, go to Settings>iCloud>Family Sharing> Then tap on the user of the device you are on. Under "Family Purchases" make sure it has the AppleID of the person for that device. Mine originally had my husbands AppleID in there (he is the Organizer), but I changed it to mine. That doesn't make it so that the purchases are under me. The purchases remained under my husband, but my ID had to be in this spot for it to work.
After that, I closed settings, then I went to Settings>iTunes and App Store> click on the AppleID and Sign Out, even if it has the right AppleID in there. Then Sign In again using the AppleID of the person on that device. Again-- even if it has the right ID in there to start, still sign out and back in.
See if they show up. If they don't show up still, try doing a restart (hold down power button and home button until it restarts).
They should show up by then, but if they don't, at that point, try to go into iCloud and Sign Out and back in.
I think the key is having the right ID in "Family Purchases". I hope this works for you.
