JME language subset.

Hi all!
I'm completely new to JME technologies and I have some questions about the language used in these technologies. In a CLDC 1.0 environment, I can't use float and double types. So, my question is: what's the language subeset I can use? Where is the documentation? java.sun.com is full of JSE and JEE documentation but very "resource constrained" for the JME technology... :'-(

Tools of choice

Just a short survey...
I was just wondering what type of tools or editors that people are using. I am currently using JDeveloper, and JCreator.
I understand that Java Card Platform supports only a few Java language subset. For example, Java Card Platform does not support strings.

Isn?t ?string? illegal or unsupported under Java Card? JDeveloper won't show you the error though.

JDeveloper or any IDE won't show you the errors because JavaC can't detect illegal Java Card types. Think about it, how would JavaC know what your target is ? It's not until you create a CAP file will you be informed of your illegal types.
Another "gotcha" is when creating JavaDocs for your Java Card applets. JavaDoc generates information about the Object base class that's not supported in Java Card.
Personally, I use Sun One, and compile/deploy using ANT. Believe it or not, after I've created the class, I tend to do maintenance in Notepad !

HOW DO I EDIT THE MAIL RECIPIENTS LIST?

I need to edit data in the Recipients List... not delete Recipients or add to Contacts but make changes in the data. How do I do this?

It is a “document” file, and it can be edited. But as the document type is a SQLite database, you must know the Data Manipulation Language subset of the Structured Query Language in order to modify it.
The pseudo-code to modify the data would be:
UPDATE PreviousRecipientsTable
SET display_name to <new display name>
WHERE display_name = <old display name>
You would need to enter the appropriate DML code in SQLite3 to modify the data stored in the Previous Recipients database.

Error: Contains fields, in Converter

Hi, I am having an error when I try to use the converter to generate an JCA. The applet is compiled OK but in the converter I got the error:
error: package visible interface MyInterface, implemented by a public class MyClass contains fields.
The interface just have some static fields define.

This is an exceerpt from the Java Card VM 2.2 Specifications (available from Sun as PDF along with javacard toolkit)
It is from JcvmSpec.pff....Section 2.2.1.1....."Unsupported Features"...."Access Control in Java Packages"
The Java Card language subset supports the package access control defined in the Java language. However, the cases that are not supported are as follows.
?? A package-visible interface that is implemented by a public class cannot define
any fields.
So, essentially this kind of implementation isn't supported, when it comes to access control. I only hope they start detecting this at compile time.
You will need to change the visiblity of the interface in order to let the static fields be there. Or otherwise, declare another interface with these fields which is public. :)

Error in Language import using SMLT .

Hi,
I was importing japanese language in SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4. import process was started using SMLT and the import process is taking long to get imported.

Exporting various languages to PDF

1. I've been reading some of the posts about the lack of font embedding support and not being able to support all languages exporting into PDF. Is this still the case? This is a huge problem, especially the lack of Simplified Chinese. Is there any sort of work around other than specifically setting the font in the report templates? When can we expect this support to be included in the product?
2. Exporting with RTF to Office 2007 - I'm having some problems printing from the rtf document, we get a "The margins of section 1 are set outside the printable area of the page" I don't remember this happening before Office 2007. Is this strictly dependent on what the print margins can handle, because to the eye it looks fine. This can be fixed by manually setting the zoom scaling to 'fit to page', but it has to be done every time it's printed, because the exported rtf does not pickup the default setting for this, and it also does not allow manually adjusting the margins.

1. The CR4E Version 1 indexes fonts in PDF export, so you're restricted to the ANSI + Adobe Asia Language pack (CJK) fonts only. The new CR4E Version 2 due out soon will subset (embed) fonts in PDF export, so the restriction is removed.
2. The Crystal engine uses Printer driver information to format reports, including the "printable region". The "printable region" is printer and printer driver specific - most printers cannot print to the edge of the sheet, so there's a defined margin beyond which printing is restricted.
There exception you're getting is indicating that there's printable objects extending beyond this margin, and that's why you're getting the error.
Does manually adjusting the page margins of the report inwards resolve the issue?

Chinese Language import issue

Hi All,
Need to import Chinese Language in 4.6C. Not sure if I am doing a mistake. Any help would be appreciated.
What I did was:
1. I first added ZH & ZF in SE38->RSCPINST and did the simulate and activate actions.
2. Then I imported the Chinese ZH Alone in SMLT and English as supplement (Since the language CD did not have ZF and I mistakenly added it in RSCPINST).
3. Now I go back to SE38->RSCPINST and delete ZF because I did not import it and click Simulate and then activate it does not do anything. It just gives me the following messages and does not go further.

Clustering only a subset of documents

I am using unsupervised classification with CTX_CLS.CLUSTERING. Our document table has several million rows and the user might only want to cluster a few thousand. Because this method of clustering uses the text index on the documents table is it possible to only cluster those few thousand without copying the text off to another table and creating a separate text index for the clustering? When the user wants to cluster 10-20K of content this method is too resource and time consuming.
Here is the example given in the documentation

There is no direct way to create a cluster on a subset of the table.
However, although you have to create an index to base the clustering on, you do NOT need to populate that index. As in the example at

Yes, it seems we can. The CONTEXT index is really there just to tell clustering how to get and process the data. If we use a USER_DATASTORE procedure for the index, we can specify which rows should be processed and which should not. I've adapted the example from the doc to add a column to the table called USE_THIS_ROW. If set to 1, then the row is used. If set to 0, then it isn't. And you can see that the clustering results do not include any rows with USE_THIS_ROW = 0.

When creating a database with Oracle Universal Installer or Database Configuration Assistant, select AL32UTF8 (Unicode UTF-8) as the database character set. This is basically the only requirement. I assume you do not try Oracle8i or older ;-)

This is more complex. You should use client and application technologies that support Unicode. For example, web applications usually can do this if configured for encoding UTF-8. However, most browsers will support only a subset of all languages spoken in the world due to font and keyboard support limitations. The supportable language set depends on the browser but mainly on the client operating system. You need to have a better idea what languages you want to support.

How to I display other language font (e.g. chinese) in Report Builder paper layout?
I have no problem displaying Chinese characters in web layout.

If your NLS_LANG is properly set to chinese character set and if you are choosing the right chinese fonts, in Reports builder, your report paper layout should display chinese characters properly.
If you are generating to PDF, then you might want to use PDF subsetting to display the chinese characters properly.

I am working on 11i to R12 up-gradation process.
I need to move some reports from 11i to R12 and resolve bugs which report faces after shifting.
I am working on one report of output type : PDF named 'Delivery Note Report' in SCM-Order Management,
It is a RDF with template report and not XML publisher(there is no separate RTF).
RDF template is prepared with English text.
In 11i report output comes in EN-US(Standard English) language
whereas in R12 it is coming in Kenyan language.
I need to set output language to default EN-US, how can I proceed ?

Hello Experts,
I checked user preferences : it is set to EN-US
I checked concurrent program language details : it is American English
I got to know about a file named : uifont.ali (present in middle tier /ora/R12/apps/tech_st/10.1.2/guicommon/tk/admin)
it contains PDF:subset section in it we can specify the particular language/font in which we want output of our report.
I tried replacing this section with default language and restarted report server, even I tried removing that file from middle tier(just for testing purpose).
Can anyone suggest any other approach as still the issue exist.

InDesign CS2 - Korean Language Support

All:
I am running InDesign CS2 v.4.0, and would like to place a MS Word document that includes Korean text. Currently, the text is displayed as sqaures in InDesign once the document has been placed.
Ideally I'd also be able to copy/paste Korean text from the Word doc to the InDesign layout.
Does InDesign support Korean text? Is there an update that can be applied to the app to allow for this?

What you see is most likely because the current
i font
in your InDesign does not contain these Korean characters. Select another font of which you are sure it has these characters, and all should be fine.
Fonts that support lots and lots of characters do not appear in the standard (sorted) position in the font list. They can be found at the very bottom, grouped by ... something... (perhaps character subset support). Try Arial Unicode MS for starters -- just to check if it works!! Then pick a nice one.
By the way, Korean is written from Left to Right, isn't it? If it's

well, then I was wrong and it's not supported :-( And you can't buy an upgrade either. RTL languages work only with the ME (= Middle East) version of ID, and that's not by Adobe.

Inheritance in Enumerations to provide subsets?

I know that there is no such thing as inheritance in enumerations, but I think it might be useful whenever the developer needs to define a subset relationship.
E.g.:

V3,

public enum B extends A {
V1,
V2
Semantically, the developer is saying that B is a subset of A.
This means that the value A.V1 is the same value as B.V1.
A user could pass a B in place of an A, and B would have all the properties of A.
Can anyone think of an argument why this should or should not be in the language?

Personally, I don't see any advantage with your suggestion, compared to the already existing EnumSet class. A couple of disadvantages with your suggestion are:
* It is not obvious that an enum extension is equivalent to a subset. That seems rather arbitrary to me (in fact, I find it counter-intuitive).
* It unnecessarily complicates the language.
Just my 2 cents, of course.
