You have to create a datasource on WebLogicb with the JNDI name: jdbc/ADFDBDS
The steps involved to create a datasource can be found here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/apirefs.1111/e13952/taskhelp/jdbc/jdbc_datasources/CreateDataSources.html

  • Statistics running Weblogic  on Win2k  verses Solaris/Unix

Does anyone know where I can find statistics such as this. I need
to know if there is a significant difference between:
Oracle 8i/Weblogic6.0 running on Solaris/Unix Environment
    Verses Win2K environment
Thanks a lot. All comments welcome.

    Hi,
Instead of Ping,Try telnet command to specific DB port from Weblogic Server to DB server
    You should get
    $ telnet ipaddress port
    Trying ipaddress...
    Connected to ipaddress.
    Escape character is '^]'.

  • Porting j2ee application from Weblogic to Oracle 10g AS

What are the common guidelines/consideration when we port a J2EE application on Oracle Application server 10g. from WebLogic 8.1. If you have some inputs on pin points/guidelines/Architecture decisions that we might need to consider when we port a J2EE application on different J2EE application server
I got the link for app server migration but it is broken :
    http://www.oracle.com/consulting/technology/appserver_migration_ds.pdf
Our application uses the following J2EE components
    1. JDBC 2.0
    2. JNDI
    3. DAO
    4. EJB
    5. JMS
    6. JAAS
    7. JAVA Mails.
    8. Servlets, JSP’s
I can think following point that needs to take care while porting
    1. Its deployment configuration vis-a-vis the apps on top
    2. The APIs it exposes (actually the information it allows the apps to pass in to the framework
    3. The data it encapsulates (in order to be app-server agnostic; does it need to be now exposed to apps?)
    Some J2EE specific areas
    1. JNDI usage and exposure to apps 2. Properties files/XML files
    2. Location specification 3. Resource bundle location specification
    4. EJB deployment descriptors
    5. Class/jar references between wars and ears
    6. Jar sharing model across ears
    7. Class loader differences across app-servers
    8. JMS settings (queues, topics, factories, durability etc)
    9. UI tags 10. Startup services
    11. Managed services (JMX)
    12. Security context passing
    13. Clustered configurations if any and how they port across app-servers
    Thanks

  • Oracle ADF/BC4J vs "other" Java/J2ee technologies. Influence a decision

    Dear All,
Our dev group is now at the stage when we need to make a decision which way to go - "proprietary" Oracle ADF/BC4J route or open source/java/j2ee standard. In our group we have a mix of Oracle Foms, pl/sql and java developers. The problem is that our core java developers are strictly against any proprietary thing, and they do not really want to even take a look at ADF/BC4J claiming that when it comes to resolving performance and other issues we will be better off with open source, rather than depend on Oracle...
I am coming from an Oracle centric world, and to me ADF is a natural choice, however I do not have a lot of experience in Java/J2EE to post a strong argument for or against ADF and BC4J.
I am just wondering if there is a case study, or comprehensive cons and pros for one or the other path.
I will greatly appreciate anyone's answer.
    Thank you,
    VO

"When it comes resolving performance and other issues we will be better off with open source."Really? How - are they planning to go into the hibernate/spring engine and fix the problems? Or do they have a specific "support" contract with some company that will guarantee them fixes to these issues? If they do have such a contract how much does this support costs the organization?
Where is the notion that open-source is faster coming from? Certainly not from actual benchmarks like this one: http://www.spec.org/jAppServer2004/results/
As Frank said your management might want to look into a more complete picture than what your Java developers are looking at.
For example, given that you have Forms based developers, how fast can they get up to speed with the open source solution vs the ADF solution?
I think a simple benchmark of productivity when building an application with the stack they are offering vs the ADF stack would prove the point even better.
Don't have time to run one have a look at the RAD Race results from this year where ADF based team beat up Spring based teams.

  • Migrating applciation from weblogic to oracle 9i application server(OC4J)??????

    Hi,
I am migrating my ejb application from weblogic to oracle 9i application server. What changes are needed to be made in code and what configuration changes are required.
In my application i use a couple of session beans wherin a session bean calls the method of the other session bean which acceses the database.I am using a jdbc thin driver for the database connection. is it possible for a session bean to call a method of another session bean which access the database??This concept works well in weblogic where the current application is running.
The problem is that while migrating the application to the orion server, it gives an OrionCMTException ...
    memory leak..etc.
    Could any one clarify.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi Avi and Harrison,
Cease Fire avi!!!!.First of all let me clear the issue of posting the same problem twice.Well, when i mentioned the problem the first time , i found the title session bean deployment was not right and few people would look into it as it was a common problem so i thought it would be appropriate if i mentioned the title correctly , so i posted the query again with the change in title.
Now coming to the answer for ur questions.
The platform used is MS Windows NT.
    The (OC4J) version is 1.0.2.2.1.
    I am not using JDeveloper.
The database is oracle 8i and i am using the thin driver.
The beans to be deployed are stateless session beans.
The client involved is a web client i.e a jsp application.

But if the DBUTILITY session bean is changed to a simple bean and accessed the code works fine and i am able to retrieve the data.Is the problem there because u one session bean cannot access a database connection method from another one or could it be because of the driver???
I hope i am clear. Please revert back in case any more references are needed.

  • I have Java/J2ee  background , whether to go for EP or XI?

    Hello All,
I am having 2 years of real time experience in Java/J2ee.
I have already leaned ABAP and I don't have work experience in ABAP.
Now I would like to go for SAP Netweaver.
So,Please let me know whether to go for EP or XI?
How will be the demand and requirement for EP and XI in the market now and in the future?
Please give me suggestion. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Cris

    Cris,
I also have joined the NetWeaver Space[XI] from a plain J2EE background ..after 5 years into J2EE. I think your J2EE knowledge would be equally useful in both EP as well as XI. Offcourse , the spectrum of tasks you do in J2EE projects i.e. right from design to devlopment & deployment part might get narrowed as you wont be able to touch WebAS that easily as you could in a Weblogic / WebSphere based project. This is because the administration part is most of the times taken care by the basis team and your job would remain confined to design / development.
Demand and requirement for EP and XI...wait and watch. I guess nobody can predict such things in todays world with ever changing technologies!!!

  • How to invoke A CORBA-Java Client Application, from Oracle???

    Hi,
I have a CORBA-Java Client Application, which takes the input parameters from a Oracle table and calls the CORBA Server, passes these parameters to the C++ Server Application and gets the results back thorugh CORBA.
My problem is, this java application needs to be invoked, when ever there is a new record in the Oracle table.
I am not sure if i can use Java Stored Procedures in Oracle in this case, because my app is in Sun JVM and i am using BEA WebLogic Enterprise 5.1 for the CORBA.
Is there any other way by which i can invoke this app, when a new record is updated in the Oracle table?
Currently, i have just put a TIMER in my java App, to check the oracle table in every few seconds, to see if there is a new reocrd. If it finds a new record it invokes the corresponding class(corba class), or else just keep sending a messsage that no new record is available.
    The problems i am facing in this method are as follows;
    1. Unnecessarily, the application has to keep on running if there is no request coming frequently.
    2. When there is a new record found, the Corba Class is called and the whole process (till it gets the result back from the server) takes about 20 - 30 secs. But within this period, if there is another record coming into Oracle table, my timer class doesnt invoke another corba class....(though i am using multithreading by using the RemidTask method in the timer.schedule.
    (timer.schedule(new RemindTask(),10,5*1000);)
    3. Also, if during the first call, there is some error, then the whole process exits, instead of another process running parallely (when a second new record is found).
So how does this timer class act like a multithreading process?
Well, i hope i am not confusing....Please let me know if anyone wants bit more elaboration on this.
It would be really helpful if someone can suggest some answer to my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you very much Keith.
Though i am really getting a hope of solving this problem, from you answer, i am actually not 100% sure if i understood your reply properly.
    First of all, about
    1. "use the update stored procedure to place the updated record (or unique index) onto an Oracle Application Queue."
-- Why do i need to put the record in the AQ. (Frankly speaking, at this moment i dont have much idea about AQ, probably i can learn more about it from oracle technet site? Or would u suggest anything else?)
    Then,
2."Your app then waits on this queue and for each new message, consumes it, gets the data required from the AQ load (e.g the index and or record), and fires off the CORBA class"
-- How does my application stay in the queue? and gets the data from the queue?
Of course, as far as i understand, i am going through the same principle...keeping on running a timer class, which keeps on checking the table for a new record, and when it finds, it calls the CORBA class.
Of course, i feel there should be a difference in running the timer continuosly and staying in queue. However i am totally unaware, how can i make my java app to wait in the queue and waits for a new record?
Can you please elaborate your answer a bit more, because i dont know about the AQ, that you have mentioned.
Thank you very much in advance for your time. But please know that it will be of great help to me and hence will be higly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Subhasree.

On further test, If I let the default oracle xml parser be loaded, then I do not get the the exception.
I have removed the following lines from orion-application.xml

Now, If I access the JPDK provider URL

    I get the excepted page

  • How to wake-up a Java Stored Proc at Oracle Server Startup

    Hi,
I am writing a Java Stored Procedure responsible to
execute periodically (daily for example) a command (the
command and its arguments are prepared by the Java stored
procedure and they are date and time sensitive).
    My questions are:
    1. Is there any way that my Java stored procedure is
initially NOTIFIED (woke-up) when the Oracle server is
started ? I noticed that there is a built-in Java stored procedure in Oracle DB declared as:
    "PROCEDURE notify_at_startup( user_schema VARCHAR2, classname VARCHAR2) ;"
Can this be used in any way for my purpose ? If yes, how ?
    2. I can do the PERIODIC scheduling of execution of the
command using standard (SUN) java timer/Thread
primitives. Are there any Oracle Java classes/methods
which can be used instead for this scheduling ?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.
    Arminius

I would look at two things.
    1) Create a database level trigger that fires at server start up.
    2) Define an Oracle Job that runs every xx minutes and restarts itself.

We got this following error yesterday when user tried to enter value in the the above mentioned combo box. This error occurred only once and it started working fine later. We are not able to recreate this error in development envronment even after disabling the pooling. We have no clues regarding what may have went wrong...

The user had entered a value in the combo box, say '145' and tabbed out, which did not match any of the value in the drop down or the auto suggest and when it was trying to display the 'Search and Select' pop-up the error occurred.
Please advice on what could be the possible reason and the solution for the issue...

This kind of error is hard to diagnose. From the stacktrace I see that the creation of a list iterator definition failed, while the framework tried to create the search popup. However I can't see why. On reason would be passivation/activation problem, which you already have tested.
As you can't reproduce the error there is little we can do, sorry.

  • Accessing oracle DB from a java program - question for oracle driver

    Hi,
    I have Oracle 10 G under vista on my desktop. I am trying to write a simple java program to access/update database tables. I saw in one of oracle example to import 2 packages - namely --- import oracle.jdbc.driver.*; import oracle.sql.*;
Where do I find these 2 packages. Also I read some documentation to download drivers. I would like to use 2 drivers, the thin driver and the OCI driver. Can someone tell me where I can find these drivers and where do I copy these two drivers - so javac and java command can recognize it.
I will greatly appreciate the help. Julia
    My program is as follows

You can download the drivers from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html.
Note that oracle.jdbc.driver is desupported after 10.2, http://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=201, so you might want to consider using a DataSource to provide Connections.
