Job prospects for ABAP consultant

Hi all,
I have completed my SAP Certification in ABAP module on 5th Oct,2010. Since then I have not received any interview call for the openings of ABAP freshers. I invested a large amount of money, time and effort for this training but got nothing in return. Please help me in this.

Hi,
You have your certification, but you need experience.
I do not know what the market is like where you live, but I think a good strategy is this:
- do your certification
- apply for a job (any job) at a government department that uses SAP
- once you're in, express your interest in SAP, and volunteer to take on SAP duties
- get as much experience and SAP training as you can
Within a year or two, you will be on your way!
cheers
Paul Bakker

    Hi Santanu
I am a SAP ABAP Technical Consultant with 2.5 years of Experience. Now i want to shift to a functional module to become a Techno-Functional. I am B.Tech in IT and i love to do coding. But i also want to know Business Process.
Please help us here: where in any of that paragraph do you provide any useful information about yourself that would allow any of us to:
So can you suggest me what would module would be best for me.
You have SAP experience. You know of SAP Modules. You work in the industry. You are your own person. How is anyone on here qualified to give you advise without any context?
Step back - what do you enjoy doing? Which module have you learned about that you find interesting? Which one have you done more ABAP in? Which one might your current employer let you get experience in?
I think you have the answer you just need to think it through a bit.

    Hi,
the certification is no help to get a job; in reality it is a way to cheat ignorant consultants and potential clients by SAP telling both that the consultant is an expert in programming with ABAP, when he is not.
I have more than 13 years working with SAP as a developer (10 years out of it as consultant) and so far no client has ever asked me whether I am certified (which I am not). On the contrary, I have had certified developers (also at Siemens) that come to me asking for help when they are stucked in a problem; I notice how ignorant they are after a 4 month course for learning ABAP.
The only winner with the certification is SAP, because you have to pay for the participation in the exam whether you pass or not. In the exam you have to answer 100 questions regarding theory ... and you don´t write a single line of code. A good consultant you´ll be with much theory and no practice !!
Another problem in the market is that all companies search for senior consultants ..... and they want to pay salaries for junior or even worse, for trainees.

  • ABAP Job opportunities for a BSC graduate

    Hi gurus,
I am planning to take up ABAP certification and upon discussing it with so many people the common answer which I got was that its really hard for a bsc graduate to get a job in SAP ABAP. This gives me a doubt as to whether its really useful for my future/ career. Now my question is: will I be able to get a job with a bsc IT degree with me in SAP ABAP and if so what would be the expected CTC.
    Degree: Bsc IT
    Passed out: 2007.
Experience: 1 year in Tech support, 2 years in customer service (back end processing).
I really need your advise to move ahead with a firm decision, as this is my last opportunity to get into the IT industry.
    Looking forward for your replies!!!
    Regards,
    Deepak Mohan

    Welcome to the forum !!!!!!
You can be a Bsc or BA whatever may be it is not a main criteria to decide.  The main criteria is that how indepth knowledge you have in programming areas like C+, Java etc., and stepping into SAP depends on this.
    thanks

  • Certified ABAP Consultant Planning For PS Certification

    Hey Friends,
Iam a Certified SAP ABAP Consultant.
I was Planning to Switch to Functinal Side.
I have 2 Options PM and PS.
Kindly Suggest which Module would be Gud For me.
    Regards,
    khan

    Moved to Coffee Corner
Both the modules PS and PM are excellent modules.
In PM there is more scope for development work and your ABAP skills will be useful, but there are a very few ABAPers who understand PS - so you can choose either way

  • Benefits of Certification for a Certified ABAP Consultant

    Hi SDN,
I am SAP Certified ABAP Consultant. I have done my Certification in May. I wanted to know what all the Keys, IDs and Accesses does SAP provide a Certified ABAPer with.
Do they provide me any kind of Developer key?
Any other ID apart from Service Market Place ID?
    Thanks,
    Vamshi

Developer keys can be obtained from http://service.sap.com/sscr
Although anyone can get these depending on their level of access to SMP and the projects they are working and the need for them.
I don't think you get anything other than a certifcate to say you are certified.  That may help open doors for you.

  • Jobs prospects Australia

    Hi everyone,
I'm wondering what the job prospects are for SAPers in Australia (east coast). Been working in a SAP environment for the last 5 years, mostly SAP XI, ABAP, bit of MM & SD. How difficult is it to get a visa (I'd be relocating from Germany) and/or sponsor? Any feedback appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Sven

    Hi Sven,
there is a good number of SAP customers in Australia so potentially there are plenty of opportunities.
Having said that there are some realities you need to keep in mind.
Firstly, business confidence in Australia is at a low point. While the Aussie economy is fairly robust and somewhat protected from the full impact of the current global financial crisis - the reality is that Australia derives a large amount of its GDP from exports, especially from the mining and tourism sectors, so downturns in the economies of our trading partners will necessarily effect us.
Secondly, Australia is a relatively large place with a relatively small workforce. This means that everyone knows everyone so reputation, proven experience, demonstrable successes are highly valuable to a prospective employer. My experience is that I have never obtained any permanent job or contract work without some sort of personal recommendation or at least introduction. The credibility of the person providing the reference is in some way more important that the attributes of the person applying for the job. This potentially makes it harder for people who have no local references to get selected.
Thirdly, partly because of the point above, consultants relocating to Australia generally find it easier to get a job with SAP Service Partners than Customers. In the current economic climate these organisations are typically looking for increasingly scarce new projects to avoid shedding staff. At the same time consultants are looking to lock in longer term engagements or even take permanent employment which again reduces potential opportunities for you.
On the upside, the general perception of the quality of SAP Consultants has greatly diminished over the past 5 years. I believe some of the reasons include...
. Many consultants have not updated their skills - they are still at 4.6C thinking even if using ECC6
. Customers have not upgraded/improved their SAP implementations - they are also at 4.6C thinking
. Service Partners have not invested in updating staff skills
. SAP Australia Consulting competes actively with SAP Service Partners for business. This means there is no trust between Service Partners and SAP so the Customers trust none of them.
In my opinion these issues, and others, mean there is a shortage of up-to-date, experienced and trusted consultants - and as a result a demand from customers for them.
So looking specifically at your skills...
.    XI - a growing area and possibly a way to differentiate Yourself.
.    ABAP - always useful, especially if you are across ABAP OO, WDA etc.
.    MM, SD - Handy skills but there are plenty of others with these as well.
    I hope this helps.
    Cheers
    Graham Robbo
