JPEGexport help (CS3 win JS)

Im trying to export a textframe to a jpeg - but when i run my script it resets to 72dpi...heres the code:
app.jpegExportPreferences.jpegRenderingStyle = JPEGOptionsFormat.BASELINE_ENCODING;
app.jpegExportPreferences.jpegQuality = JPEGOptionsQuality.MAXIMUM;
app.jpegExportPreferences.resolution = 600;
placeHolder.exportFile(ExportFormat.JPG,output_file,false);
any ideas?

Still having this problem. It would appear that when exportFile is called, it resets everything to "Baseline, Medium, 72" instead of "Baseline, Maximum, 600". Ive tried closing all documents and running just the preferences part of the script, this works but stills gets overridden when exportFile is called! Ive tried giving it a pdfexportpreset but that seems to make no difference anyway. Any Ideas?

    XP 64 is unsupported and causes countless problems with Photoshop it also lacks drivers. CS3 is 32-bit only.
    I would use CS4 and either Vista64 or Win7 64-bit OS.

  • CS3 + Win 7 64 + Quad Core = Rendering nightmare

    I really need some help here.
    I installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 with 8 GB ram and a Q6600 quad core processor. I have a WD Caviar black 7200 RPM HD with 32 meg buffer as my OS drive and two WD 7200 160 GB HDs in RAID 0 as a video drive. Im also using a EVGA GTX275 Nvidia card with 868MB RAM and the latest driver.
    I have some serious concerns about Premiere Pro CS3s abiltity to render in Win7.
    Here is the video I am attempting to render. I am making a Star Wars type intro with rolling text. I have two rolling text titles (each on their own layer) over a starfield video (on its own layer) that is being held on the INPOINT (the star field is). One rolling title starts where the other ends in order to give the effect of one long rolling title off to the far distance.
    When I render this....and while watching my CPU Usage gadget, all four cores peg at 100%. Thats good. However, the render takes forever..and crawls. Sometimes it ticks off one frame per second. To make a segment that runs about 1min 30secs, its takes a good 8-10 mins to render. All the while, the four cores show 100%.
    What is the problem? Ive tried to defrag. I tried to turn off Aero. Ive run it AS ADMINISTRATOR. Ive run CS3 in XP SP2 mode etc. Nothing. There is no way it can be this slow to render that. Overall, I think I see slow renders in other areas too. And the previews themselves, are choppy.
    Tell me there is a fix or a patch or something. This is ridiculous.

    Thanks for the input. I ran it again.

  • Top half of video is missing on imported WMV files. Running  CS3 & Win XP Professional

    Top half of video is missing on imported .WMV  files. I'm running CS3 Adobe Premier Pro with Win XP Professional OS
    Hi all,
       I just installed my Adobe Premier Pro CS3 for the very first time. I then IMPORTED a WMV file into the Project Frame and  then Dragged & Dropped it into the Time Line. All the windows (or Frames) Project Frame, Source Frame and the mini-Project Frame show this video with the top half missing. I’m running Win XP Professional with the latest Service Packs installed.
    Please Help.
    Thanks
    Derek

    After Searching the net for a while here, I found a solution to the "Half Screen" problem!
    The half screen video problems seen while trying to play WMV files in my CS3 Adobe Premiere Pro program seems to have been due to a recent Windows software Security update made to it’s Windows Media Player programming. As soon as I removed that update, my WMV files now show normally within Adobe Premier Pro.
    If you wish to uninstall this Windows Patch / Security Update on Win XP Machines:
    No#1 Prior to removing/un-installing the file, shut off "Windows Automatic Updates" and set update preferences to manual. Thus in the future you can select which Updates you want to instal (and which one not to instal)  *remember to ignore the KB2834904 update in the future! That is at least until Widows fixes this Security Update / Patch.
    A) Go to "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel
    B) In the Add/Remove Programs, check the "Show Updates" box located at the top of that window
    C) Scroll down to "Windows XP Software Updates" and within that section, scroll down to "Security Update for Windows Media Player" KB2834904 (mine was dated 7-10-2013)
    D) Click on the REMOVE button and re-start your system.
    If using Win 7 Operating System: to remove this Patch / Security Update the file to remove is: KB2803821 - In Windows 7, go to "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel, click on the "View installed updates" link in the left sidebar, search for KB 2803821 and click REMOVE.
    Good luck everyone!

  • [JS CS3, Win] Saving InDesign using app.activeDocument.save

    Hello.
    I am having problems saving an InDesign document using Javascript.
    My aim is to have a box in the document where I will type the filename and path where I want the InDesign file to be saved (eventually this will be generated from a datamerge).
    I then want to run a script which will read the contents of the box and then save the document to that filename or location.
    At the moment I have:
    //SaveText.jsx
    //An InDesign CS3 JavaScript
    //Saves the document to the provided path
    //get contents of the FileNameBox box on the document
    var varFileName = app.activeDocument.textFrames.item("FileNameBox").contents;
    //now save
    app.activeDocument.save("/"+ varFileName+".indd");
    //alert (app.activeDocument.filePath);
    When I run the script (with "Hello" in the FileNameBox) the file changes name on the top bar of InDesign to "Hello.indd", but (when I run the commented out alert at the end) the file is not actually saving anywhere.
    If I close InDesign and then open it the file is listed under "Open Recent" on the menu, but clicking it does nothing - again the file doesn't exist.
    Does anyone have any ideas to help me from tearing my hair out?
    Where is my file saving? (Or, if it isn't, how can I make it save!).
    Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    var myFolder = new Folder("~/Desktop/Test");
    if (!myFolder.exist) myFolder.create();
    var varFileName = app.activeDocument.textFrames.item("FileNameBox").contents;
    app.activeDocument.save(myFolder.fsName + "\\" + varFileName+".indd");
    alert(app.activeDocument.filePath);

    Try to use Windows XP SP2/3 compatibility mode first, see if it works for you. And use Alchemy for the Audigy 2 ZS, FS2004 is making use of Directsound after all. Read the guide for using Alchemy here and here. Download Creative Alchemy here.
    Hope it works for you!

  • [IDS CS3 WIN] .tmp and .idlk files not getting cleaned up

    I'm using a C# Soap client with CS3 Server on Windows. My script is opening a template file, importing a tagged file, then saving an ID document and generating a PDF file. The script closes the document before quiting, but I'm seeing a trail of .idlk and .tmp files left behind on the server.
    Example: I'm starting with the following files... importTemplate.indd and importTest.txt. The script opens importTemplate.indd, imports importTest.txt and creates importTest.indd and importTest.pdf, then closes the document.
    For testing purposes, these files are all located in the same location. What I see in the directory after the script has run (successfully) now includes the following:
    tes493.tmp
    ~importtemplate~uvw2ve.idlk
    ~importtest~borbth.idlk
    ~importtest~myhstu.idlk
    I am closing the document with the following:
    app.documents.item(0).close(SaveOptions.no);
    I could understand if the document wasn't getting closed that I would see one .idlk file, but why 3?
    Has anyone else encountered this problem?

    Hi again
    does the '3 days ago' actually set the time? so '1 week ago' would be valid too?Ah, was afraid you might ask that
    '3 days ago' does "set the time" as you say. '1 week ago' might work, but the man pages are not particularly helpful on what works and what doesn't. The find man page refers you to the cvs man page, which says:
    However, cvs currently accepts a wide variety of other date formats. They are intentionally not documented here in any detail, and future versions of cvs might not accept all of them.But that gives an example of "1 hour ago" being valid, so I tried a few variations
    wacking whole directories scares me... especially since there are live directories in here that I think shouldn't be deleted... can I take this part out?Yes, you can leave out the complete second "find" command if you wish. But applications shouldn't leave files or folders lying around in /tmp or /var/tmp and expect them to still be there when they come back!
    excuse my ignorance what language is this?This is the Bourne Shell or more accurately bash. You can try reading the man page, but if you're interested I think you'd find an introductory shell scripting book a lot more readable!
    My weekly hasn't run since Nov 18th but the Monthy and daily both say Dec 1st!!!No problem. My weekly hasn't run since Nov 15th. It will eventually get run, after about a week of cpu time (not sleeping).
    Now that the periodic scripts are managed by launchd, rather than cron, they do eventually get run. Unless you are running a busy server with hundreds of users, rotating the log files is no big deal with today's typical disk sizes.

  • [JS CS3 Win] Export to PDF then auto-print PDF from Acrobat

    Hello!
    I am working on the script that is exporting pages to PDF, and would like to automatically send exported PDF to print from Acrobat.
    I get the scripting part for exporting to PDF, and it's working very well, but I have trouble on the part of the script that tells Acrobat to open the PDF and send it to printer. Script is run from InDesign, so I thought this is right forum to ask.
    The following part of the script is working OK on one computer, but on other two computers with similar configuration (CS3. Windows, Acrobat 8) it doesn't work at all and I can't figure out where is the problem:
    var printFile = "/c/temp/test.pdf";
    var remoteScript = "printFile = decodeURI('"+printFile+"');\n";
    remoteScript += "var doc = app.openDoc({cPath: printFile});\n";
    remoteScript += "var pp = doc.getPrintParams();\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.pageHandling = pp.constants.handling.shrink;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.NumCopies = 2;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.interactive = pp.constants.interactionLevel.silent;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.printerName = '\\\\hrhqzgw23prn01\\\hr300019ps';\n";
    remoteScript += "doc.print(pp);\n";
    remoteScript += "doc.closeDoc(true);";
    acrobat.executeScript(remoteScript);
    I would appreciate any help. thank you.

    Hi Mark,
    Here is a sample script. It exports the active InDesign document to pdf file, using its base name, to the root of C drive. Then opens the exported file in Acrobat, prints it to the default printer and silently closes it.
    Tested on InDesign 5.0.3, Acrobat 8.0.0, Windows XP SP3.
    #target indesign
    var myIndesignDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var myBaseName = GetFileNameOnly(myIndesignDoc.name);
    var myFile = new File( "/C/" + myBaseName + ".pdf" );
    myIndesignDoc.exportFile( ExportFormat.pdfType, myFile, false );
    var myScript = 'var myAcrobatDoc = app.openDoc( "/C/' + myBaseName + '.pdf" );\n';
    myScript += 'myAcrobatDoc.print( {bUI: false, bSilent: true} );\n';
    myScript += 'myAcrobatDoc.closeDoc( true );';
    var bt = new BridgeTalk;
    bt.target = "acrobat";
    bt.body = myScript;
    bt.send();
    function GetFileNameOnly(myFileName) {
        var myString = "";
        var myResult = myFileName.lastIndexOf(".");
        if (myResult == -1) {
            myString = myFileName;
        else {
            myString = myFileName.substr(0, myResult);
        return myString;
    Short explanation of the acrobat script:
    1. Open the pdf file, just exported from InDesign
    var myAcrobatDoc = app.openDoc( "/C/' + myBaseName + '.pdf" );
    2. To print the document silently I use the doc object’s print method and set the following parameters:
    bUI -- Determines whether to present a user interface to the user
    bSilent -- Suppresses the Cancel dialog box while the document is printed
    myAcrobatDoc.print( {bUI: false, bSilent: true} );
    3. Close the document without notifying the user:
    myAcrobatDoc.closeDoc( true );

    Kasyan

  • [CS3 Win] Doc-Observer, new architecture

    Hi all,<br /><br />so I finally get around to port stuff to CS3. While things have gone smoothly until now, I'm obviously getting to the tougher part now: the new command-architecture.<br />I've written a command to import text from a file. I guess I don't really need my own command here, but in CS2 I could do all the stuff needed at undo in the Undo()-Method of my command. Needless to say that this is obsolete now. So I figured I'd just broadcast changes on my own PMIID in the commands DoNotify() and use a doc-observer with LazyUpdate(), since that'll tell me of changes not only at Do() but also at Undo()/Redo() - I hope so at least. Unfortunately attaching the observer according to the porting-guide/API-reference crashes InDesign.<br />Now, here's some code, I've stripped it of nil-pointer checks for breviety:<br /><br />from the DoNotify():<br /><br />IDocument* doc = Utils<ILayoutUIUtils>()->GetFrontDocument();<br />InterfacePtr<IMCMImportTextData> importData(this, UseDefaultIID());<br />InterfacePtr<ISubject> docSubject(doc, UseDefaultIID());<br />ListLazyNotificationData<PMString>* lnData = new ListLazyNotificationData<PMString>;<br />lnData->ItemChanged(importData->GetPath());<br />docSubject->ModelChange(kMCMImportTextCmdBoss, IID_IMCMIMPORTTEXTDATA, this, lnData);<br /><br />IMCMImportTextData ist an interface aggregated on my CmdBoss to allow for Data-Exchange, in this case it's a path to file, still need to change that to an IDFile due to the changes to PMString. Seems to work ...<br /><br />Now the attach-method on my doc-observer - at which point ID crashes when opening the doc:<br /><br />InterfacePtr<ISubject> iDocSubject(iDocument, UseDefaultIID());<br />if (!iDocSubject->IsAttached(this, IID_IMCMIMPORTTEXTDATA, ISubject::kRegularAttachment)){<br />iDocSubject->AttachObserver(this, IID_IMCMIMPORTTEXTDATA, ISubject::kRegularAttachment);<br />}<br />if (!iDocSubject->IsAttached(this, IID_IHIERARCHY, ISubject::kRegularAttachment)){<br />iDocSubject->AttachObserver(this, IID_IHIERARCHY, ISubject::kRegularAttachment);<br />}<br /><br />iDocument is an IDocument* passed as a parameter, I've also tried the various AttachmentTypes. If I do it the "old-fashioned-way" (iDocSubject->AttachObserver(this, IID_IMCMIMPORTTEXTDATA, IID_MCMDOCOBSERVER)) it works, but obviously only Update() will be called, not UpdateLazy() which I'll prefer and need. I used IID_IHIERARCHY for test-purposes, commenting out my own IID - unfortunately with the same result.<br />Now I'm stuck - I'm not sure whether I'm missing something basic here, if I just didn't get the documentation or I don't know what.<br /><br />Thanks in advance for any help,<br /><br />Bernt

    The selection filter was mentioned for a very specific use case - Jelle had to notify an external application. For details see that other thread, but for you that approach is probably wrong anyway.
    Typically you follow the selection in order to update a widget - if not, please explain.
    For that case you would aggregate a selection observer (e.g. derived from ActiveSelectionObserver* ) on your widget or its parent panel. In the observer, you would _not_ override Update(), instead use the various Handle() methods.
    That notification should be sufficient for simple selection changes on page items, the selection should not need to follow multiple protocols. If there is a deeper sense behind your quoted enormous collection of protocols, then you might need a Suite with SelectionExt* which would preprocess all those notifications and reduce them to a single custom protocol. You'll probably need a Suite anyway unless you can reuse an existing one, to obtain a value for your widget.
    In other words, all the _DOCUMENT are not related to the selection, they are just side effects. IID_ISELECTIONFILTER makes no sense. All those PATHSELECTION are only relevant if you want to watch every change to shapes. The reference point again is a sideeffect - I think of scrolling / active spread, it is very unlikely that you really need that notification.
    Btw, do not check for IsAttached() during AutoAttach. It just suppresses an ASSERT, better fix the reason (unbalanced Attach / Detach).

  • CS3 & Win 7

    Just wondering if anyone has experienced any issues with installing CS3 products
    on Windows 7 64-bit OS ?
    Would it be better to install under VM XPMode ?
    THX all!

    Hi
    I'm running, Photoshop CS 2, Illustrator CS3, Indesign CS4, and Premiere Elements 3.
    As I said the only Adobe program that was a problem was Indesign.
    Almost everything else on my computer runs fine with Windows 7 64 bit.
    The only other problems were that I did have to update to Norton Ghost 15 to have it work in 64 but Windows 7, my old Ghost 10 worked with Windows 7 32 bit.  I couldn't find drivers for my Epson scanner.  I did find a software package, ViewScan that runs my scanner fine with out drivers from Epson.
    But even my old games like Tomb Raider 4, Wow etc, seem to run fine.
    If you are having problems with your internet connection the most likely cause is a program installed along with IToons, and some Adobe Programs, Photoshop for one, called "Bonjour Services"!  This has been a problem since beta and still hasn't been fixed as far as I know.
    Uninstalling it will usually fix your connection problems.
    It was still a problem a couple of months ago when I got my new computer, as soon as I installed my Adobe software my connection failed.
    By this time I knew what to do, I uninstalled Bonjour Services and everything went back to normal.
    Hope this helps.
    Mike

  • Help: CS3 Design Premium suddenly stopped working, won't reinstall

    I have a licensed copy of Adobe CS3 Design Premium for Windows (on a machine w/Vista), and everything was working fine until this past weekend, when I was suddenly unable to access any of the programs (with the exception of Acrobat).  Every time I tried to open one of the CS3 applications, I'd get an error message saying that there was a problem with the program, and I would have to uninstall and reinstall.  So, I uninstalled the entire suite, but every time I try to reinstall, at the end of the process I get an uninformative message stating that "Some problems occurred during installation", and a message under each of the components stating "Component install failed".
    Nothing on my computer has changed recently -- I haven't added any software, hardware, or otherwise done anything unusual that might cause this problem.  I use this software on a daily basis, so it's become quite a problem for me.
    Does anyone know how to fix this issue?  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, always with the same result.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    …When I upload the photos to my computer I've previously run them through the DNG converter without a problem…
    Had you run the DNG on a Mac before?  On the Mac, the DNG Converter works on folders only, not on individual files (unless you use the Finder to drop the icons of your raw files on the DNG Converter application icon).  From within the application, using File > Open, the icon and names of individual raw files will always appear grayed out.
    You need to target the folder that contains the files you want to convert.
    CAVEAT: all eligible files in the folder will be converted, including any and all DNG files that may already be contained in the folder.  So if you have any DNGs in that folder, they will also be converted again and the original DNGs may be overwritten.
