  • JRE 1.3 for a Mac?

I downloaded Netscape 6.2.2 on my iMac. Now I can't get into any chat rooms or play Yahoo games, or any interactive sites. They ask for a plugin. But they don't tell me which plugin. The owner of a chat site said I need JRE 1.3....I can't find it to plug it in. I called Netscape tech support. No help! They said if it didn't download then its not there, and that Java is working of the problem of Mac vs. PC!
Anyone have a Mac, uses Netscape 6.2, and can help?
    Thanks
    Carol

    hi,
the solution is easy and terrible!
jre 1.3 exist only for the new system 'mac os-x' (mac version 10.x)
for the 'old' mac system 9.x exist only jre 1.2.2
... and apple say that they won't develope a newer jre-version for the 9.x-system!
so, if you really need jre 1.3 on mac you have to upgrade your system!
but i really can say the new mac os-x is just a great system (it's based on bsd-unix, has a great optic and my old mac-progs runs perfectly)!

Similarly, OP needs to MODIFY Snow Leopard by adding the appropriate infrastructure, executables, and configuration to meet the install requirements. Just because that implies a different kernel and system libs doesn't mean it can't be done.

  • NTLM on Mac OS X

    Hi,
I'm trying to load a page with a Java applet in it on a Mac running OS X 10.5.4. The Mac is running J2SE 5.0. I tried using Firefox 3.0 and Safari 3.1.2
The website is hosted on IIS on a Windows PC, and it uses NTLM for authentication. As soon as the Mac tries to load the Java applet, it gets a 401 (Access Denied) with a NTLM negotiation request in it. This happens in a lot of pages and in any other case results in the browser sending a new GET request with NTLM authentication. The JRE (1.5.0_13) doesn't respond to this 401 though, it just stops loading the applet. It then shows an authentication dialog, but even filling in the proper authentication here doesn't work. In some cases in Firefox 3 the authentication dialog even freezes the browser.
Here's what the Java console shows:

    Hello WouterLammers,
The JRE that that is used on Mac is produced by Apple, they build and create Java SE from Sun's source. Are you able to reproduce this error with [Sun's Java SE 6|http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp|http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp]?

  • Installing JDK 5.0 in MAC

Hi, im trying to install jdk 5 in my mac. i downloaded the file and everything, i supposely installed it, even open the unzip the src file, but when i go to my terminal to check my java version, still tells me 1.4... im probably installing it wrong, or maybe i have to put it in some path. please help. thanks

If you are working with a version of the Mac that is prior to X, you will be restricted to 1.1 or possibly 1.2 (can't remember) of the JRE and JDK..
So I'm assuming you are working with Mac OS X...
Apple provides it's own implementation of the JRE and JDK for Mac OS X. Currently, the highest available version of Java for the Mac X is 1.4.2
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/java/
When Java 5 becomes available you will most likely want to obtain it via Software Updates.

Here is an article on the Sun site about development for Mac OS X

  • Launch apps with oracle jre 7

With Apple discontinuing support jre 7 on its mountain lion, i am trying to find a way to launch my mac apps with oracle jre7. There are two situations occuring to me.
    1. Oracle jre7 could be before hand installed and my app should be able to detect and launch
2 Or Bundle the oracle jre 7 with my Mac app and get into lauching it on mountain lion without any issues.
Is there a better way or apple providing support in this regards.
    Help appreciated.

    Thanks NickClark_uk,
I am able to install the java 7, but the Mac app i am trying to launch is unable to detect the oracle jre 7 and works fine with app store jre's. So we may need to bundle the jre or modify our apps to detect the installed JRE.
I was looking at what would be the better approach in order to have my Mac app run with oracle jre 7.
    Thanks

    b) jmf.jar
    c) fobs4jmf.jar
    d) jmf.propertiesThe jmf and fobs4jmf jars are added to the classpath
We have tried the following to no avail:
    a) adding the "libfobs4jmf.jnilib" file to a /lib directory in the project space
    b) adding the "libfobs4jmf.jnilib" to "Contents/Resources/Java"
We thought it may have been a 64bit issue, so we copies the jmstudio executable to our project workspace, executed it and we are able to play video files without any problems. Therefore, it's a problem with our setup.
    Our versions are listed below:
    Eclipse 3.3.1
    JRE 1.6.0
Mac OS 10.5, 64bit (although it was also tried on OS 10 32bit to no avail)

    Hi Captfoss,
    Thanks for your help.
We've figured it out. Fobs4JMF 0.4.1 is compiled in Java 5 for 32bit. Once we compiled in Java 5, it began to work. Repeat: do not use Fobs4JMF on a 64bit mac running Java 6, it will require a 64bit native library. The provided jnilib is in 32bit!
    Here was out directory structure:
    /gemident.jar
    /jmf.properties
    /libfobs4jmf.jnilib
    /lib/jmf.jar
    /lib/fobs4jmf.jarAnd our manifest.mf:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: GemIdentOperations.Run
Class-Path: lib/jmf.jar lib lib/fobs4jmf.jarWe can execute with the following:
java -Xmx1400m -jar gemident.jarThere is no need for any "Djava.library.path" or "LD_LIBRARY_PATH" - it should just work

  • Eclipse "cannot be resolved to a type" and new .JAR lib - config prob?

I'm trying to make use of the Commons HttpClient library in a project being built in Eclipse (3.1). I have a sample program (PostXML) that runs into "cannot be resolved to a type" on the "HttpClient" object. I think the problem is that the JRE 1.4.2 (Mac OS-X) system library includes an earlier release (3.0.1) of the HttpClient, but some of the classes used by PostXML are in the 3.1rc of HttpClient. I've downloaded the newer release, created a user library, and modified the load order so I can see the user library above (i.e. loaded prior to?) the System JRE in the package browser. I can see the HttpClient.class in the Package browser. I have "import org.apache.commons.httpclient.methods.*;" in the head of the application (that took tweaking). Several of the HttpClient methods resolve correctly, but not the HttpClient object constructor itself. I am also finding I cannot simply import all the HttpClient methods, but must import each explicitly (?). Suggestions?

I have gotten the sample code to compile and run,
though I still have some confusion about needing the
explicit imports (as compared to a wildcard import).
In the end I believe my "cannot be resolved to a
type" error was due to dependencies within the
HttpClient library on the commons-codec library. Once
I downloaded and installed that, the samples started
working better. Still trying to understand the API,
but making progress.when downloading third-party libraries, check the download page to see if it has any further dependencies. apache libraries are notoriously dependent on other apache libraries
regarding the imports, it's not that there's a need for explicit imports, it's more that wildcard imports are a bad idea. explicit imports gives other people looking at your code a first clue as to what it does, and it also can serve as an indicator that your class is too big, if there are lots of imports. wildcards hide this from you. apart from that, it makes no difference to your code, and imports don't even exist at runtime so it affects how your code actually runs, not at all

  • How do I bundle a jre with an RCP appl on Mac OSX

    Hi,
We are making an RCP appl with kepler.
I want to ship the jre's with the appl.
On windows I can just ship a jre dir in the root, no problem.
On the Mac (10.8.4) it does not seem to work, at least not in an obvious way.
I downloaded the latest 1.7 jre (25) for Mac from the oracle website.
    I tried the following:
unzip it and put it in a jre dir in the root => not used, falling back to system jre
same and put '-vm' in the ini => error saying 1.6.0_51 is not supported (huh? I do not even have 1.6)
I tried exporting an appl (with bundled jre) from eclipse using the product definition. That works but when I look at the generated appl tree I see a jre dir with another jre dir inside it ??? The inner jre dir seems to be a (partial) duplicate of the outer one.
Ok, sort of at least, now I tried to copy my downloaded jre dir inside itself. That works, but if I remove the contents of one of them it does not work anymore and I do not really want to ship a double jre.
Can anybody shed some light here?
What is the optimal way to bundle a jre with an RCP application on Mac OSX?
    Thanks,
    Tom

I have done this within our product and have it working. It's tricky because if you're using Maven to build, OS X's JRE symlink's libjvm.dylib - which Java's unzip invariably screws up.
I was only able to get this to work by using Tycho, as the app export within the PDE is just plain broken (and seemingly unmaintained). This bug has been there for quite some time - I don't have any faith in it ever getting fixed, regardless of whatever bugzilla says.
If you're building RCP apps for distribution - you should probably consider using Tycho anyways; admittedly there's a lot of BS that comes with it, but it's the only seemingly straightforward way to build and package an RCP app in a headless manner for continuous integration. Buckminster is supposedly also a solution - but it has less information and support than Tycho - so YMMV.
Anyways back to your problem. Using Tycho with some custom maven magic, I was able to solve this. Essentially I downloaded the JRE from Oracle, and uploaded to our Artifactory so I could reference it using maven coordinates. I unpack that tar.gz package into the OS X distribution directory and place the package under the <your app name>.app/jre. Because of the symlink munging - you have to go and fix that, so remove the existing zero byte libjvm.dylib and relink it using ant exec. Now that you have a good JVM, you need to modify the config.ini to use the right JRE. Unfortunately you can only build this on OS X or Linux - Windows is SOL unless you can find a way to use Cygwin or equivalent. Since I'm doing this outside of Tycho's archiving phase (and theres not apparently way to slip my changes in between), I have to recreate the OS X archive.
Hopefully this helps you solve your problem... I beat my head against the wall trying to fix this for several weeks trying to find a working solution as the error reporting is completely incorrect.
    Anyways, good luck!

  • How to run JavaFX Jar with JRE 7 on MAC OS Lion 10.7.5 ?

I had java 1.6 installed on my MAC OSX Lion 10.7.5. When I am trying to run that JavaFX application jar
    java -jar application.jar
It always shows a dialog "The application require a newer version of Java Run-time" with download link. Even I have downloaded and successfully installed it on my MAC machine but it still shows me the same window.
It installed jre-7u10-macosx-x64.dmg but java -version is always point to 1.6.
Then I searched for Java Preferences to point the current JRE 1.7 but I could find Java Preferences at Applications -> Utilities -> Java -> Java Preferences.
I found an Java Icon on System Preference. When I am trying to open that widow it's showing me error -- the java control panel opens in a separate window and nothing happens when we click on Re-open the Java Control Panel.
    http://avats.s3.amazonaws.com/JavaRunningError.txt
I would like to know -- how to run JavaFX jar with JRE7 on MAC OS Loin 10.7.5? Is their any other way to run the JavaFX application JAR with JRE7?

To find a copy of LP7 you would need to look for a copy on eBay.. However, the protection method used with LP7 no longer functions so you cannot register it and therefore you cannot use it. unless you have already registered LP7 yourself in the past using the security key dongle provided
Any version of LP7 from a torrent would be an illegal (and most likely non working) version due to the protection that was used at that time... and so posting about it here, was not be wise.
So.. thats why my previous answer was so brief... Simply put, you cannot use LP7 unless you already have a validated and registered security dongle... even if you found a copy of LP7 somewhere
The only practical solution is to find some kind soul who already has a working version of LP7 installed, that you can send the projects to... for them to do the conversion for you.
I would, but I no longer have LP7 installed here on any of my testbed Macs...

    What are you missing?
I inherited this app and signing the third party jars is how it was setup, I was wondering the same thing too, why was it necessary to sign the third party jars?
The applet runs in either JRE 1.6.0_13 or JRE 1.6.0_27 depending on the other Java apps the user uses. JRE 1.6.0_13 does not have the mixed code security (so it is like is disable), but JRE 1.6.0_27 does have the mixed code security and the applet will not launch with mixed code security enable, so we have to disable it. With all the hacking going on in the last two years, is important to improve security; so this is a must.
Yes, I always clear up the cache.
Any idea on how to resolve this problem?

  • Mac OS 10.4.8 , Java Web Start and JRE version of 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 problem

    Hello,
I've been searching internet and reading the problems related to Java Web Start and JNLP.
But no solution I read can solve what I faced.
I'm running Mac OS x 10.4.8 and Macintosh updates the Java in my machine so that it has Java version 1.4.2 and Java 1.5.0
The application I'm running needs to be running in JRE 1.4.2.
So I changed the Java Preferences so that the default Java setting is JRE 1.4.2. However, the JNLP application still running in Java 1.5.0
So I changed the MIME and make sure the JNLP is opened with Java Web start instead. The Java Web start is for version 1.4.2. I also change its preference so that the console is opened.
I tried to run the JNLP application once again. Java web start 1.4.2_09 starts and console open, but the Java Runtime is still showing Java 1.5.0
I adjust the JNLP file so that the version is only showing 1.4.2_09 (ignoring all other variables of version 1.4.1, 1.4.2, etc found in the original JNLP file). That didn't work either.
I search on methods on how to uninstall Java 1.5.0 in Mac - apple page told me that I can't do that unless I reinstall the whole OS.
I am henceforth declare that I am stuck now !!!! Heellllpp....

Are you up to date with the updates?
    Update for Snow Leopard users:
Apple issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Note:  On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
If, after installing Java for OS X 2013-002 and the latest version of Java 7 from Oracle, you want to disable Java 7 and re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start functionality, follow these steps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US
    Further update:
Apple issued this Java related security update No. 13 on February 19:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5666
and Update No. 14 on March 4:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5677
The standard recommendation is for users to turn off Java except when they have to use it on known and trusted websites (like their bank). Javascript, which is unrelated despite the name, can be left on.

  • Applet crashes in MAC OS X 10.7.4 with JRE 1.7.0_07 while printing

Our appplication uses the java applet to print the application data to default printer. We recommended our consumer to install latest jre (1.7.0_07) to run applet from our site.
Since then we are facing issues in MAC OS X 10.7.3 and above. The applet crashes and throws following error in MAC console. There was no error in application or java console.
We uninstalled java 1.7.0.0_07 and restore the apple recommended java 1.6.0_35. After that the applet works fine(java 1.6.0_35) to print the applciation data in MAC OS X 10.7.4.
The browser pops up with error message says "Error While Printing"
    Application Specific Information:

Are there any issues with MAC 10.7.3 and above with applet running in jre 1.7.0_07 to print the data to printer?

Step one is to ensure that you have a bootable backup/clone or a verified Time Machine backup of 10.7.3.
Step two is to manually download and install the 10.7.3 COMBO update.
Step three, if these are successful, is to manually download and install the 10.7.4 COMBO update, repair permissions, and restart.
These should fix the problem with the installer. As for the games, i've not a clue since I don't run any on my computers.

  • How to update JRE to 1.7 on Mac

    Hi.
I am using Mac OS X version 10.9.3.
I want to update JRE to 1.7. I have already installed JRE 1.7.0_65.
But it install JRE to other location and default JRE given by Apple still exits in System folder.
    Regards,
    Ranjan

Normal behavior, since you can have both installed. I do. Check the versions installed, using the Terminal app.
To determine the Java 7 version, use:
    /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -version
    java version "1.7.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_65-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.65-b04, mixed mode)
    For Java 6, run:
    java -version
    java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-10M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)
