[JS, CS5] Strange output in javascript console, from extractLabel

I get a lot of empty CData in the javascript console, if I write out the result from extractLable('anynonexistinglabel').
I use this code:
var allPgItems = app.activeDocument.allPageItems;
for (var i = 0; i <=allPgItems.length-1; i++){
var currentItem = allPgItems[i];
$.writeln(currentItem.extractLabel('asdfgh'))
The result:

etc
Is this behaviour repeatable?

Andreas,
met the same bug during developing a script with ESTK v 3.5.1.59 (CS5) using insertLabel() and extractLabel().
After restarting both ESTK and InDesign CS5 (7.0.4), everything was o.k. again.
Empty text frames and empty cells showed:

as selection's contents.
An if(myCell.contents == "") let ESTK loop endlessly.
Glad it's over. At least for a while ;-)
Uwe
P.S. I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.8

my configuration:

adobe reader x
adobe livecycle designer 9 ( therefore it is not an version 8 issue )
admin rights on the pc ; )
I might add that you are not alone!
I am having the same problem (LSD ES2 (version 9.0.0....) and Adobe Reader X and Acrobat Professional 8)
Whenever I save a form as PDF and open it with Reader or Acrobat I get to see the console.
But never when I view the form in Designer preview!
That used to work until I installed Reader X.
Same as you I checked all configurations in Reader and Acrobat: all perfect.

• JavaScript Console Problem (only in LS preview mode)

Hello,
my JavaScript console "crashes" in preview-mode in lifecycle designer. It just appears for a "millisecond"´, well I see it flicker at last.
It doesn't matter if there is a syntax error or if I try to start the console by clicking a button ( Event click => console.show(); )
The console just flickers.
If I save the pdf file everything works fine. Console shows up on errors or if it told to do so (e.g. my button is clicked).
I cannot afford to save the pdf-file every time for some reasons (livecycle designer is used in sap gui, I have to run the whole process to get the PDF ...)
By the way, the same problem is present in Livecycle Designer if I use it "native", not called from within the sap.
I have already tried to close the acrobat reader tasks. There are two of them, when adobe reader 10 starts (native or in livecycle-preview).
But by closing one of the tasks, the second one closes, too. Therefore there is no help this way.
I use Adobe Lifecycle Designer ES 8.0 (8.01.2008.1.380548) and Acrobat Reader X (10.0.1)
The PDFs output in LS is set to Acrobat 8 (dynamic)
In Acrobat Reader javascript console/debugger is set as active, as well as to show errors etc.
It might be a problem realted to sap gui.
I just ran the pdf-preview in sap gui. And Console didn't show up again.
I have saved the same document from the sap print-preview on my local hd drive. Then started it with adobe reader and everything worked just fine.
Please do not blame sap only. As I have told before: the same problem occurs if I use livecycle designer "native", not within sap gui

• Acrobat Reader X / 10 - javascript console problem / crash

Hi,
I develop adobe interactive forms and need javascript console badly!
My system:
Windows XP Prof.
Acrobat Reader 10 (free)
Internet Explorer 8
Adobe Livecycle Designer ES 9 (latest version)
The javascript console works just fine if I start an adobe form "native" = with Acrobat Reader X directly.
But if I use Adobe Livecycle Designer (latest version) [the issue also described here], the console just crashes / disappears right after it started.
The same happens if I open the pdf-file (adobe interactive form) with Internet Explorer.
E.G:
- When using Acrobat Reader "native":
console will open up on javascript syntax errors or by klicking a button ( javascript = console.show(); )
- When using Internet Explorer or Adobe Livecycle Designer:
the same pdf file cannot view the javascript console. it just "disappears immideatly" / crashes
There is any technical support for Acrobat Reader expect this forum - so I was told when I called adobe hotline.
I hope anyone could actually help me here.

Hi,
Don't open the console just the reader application. and then open the console from your script as you do.
I have noticed in the past that sometimes the console appears for a very short period of time and then vanishes and this appears to be caused by the console window being associated with the open Adobe Reader application ( when it has no documents open) rather than the open PDF file in the preview or browser.
Just a thought

• Bridge Cs5 Error: Output to PDF

Bridge Errors are being experienced on all Instances of CS5 installed within our organisation.
We have 7 Workstations ( MAcPro) with various versions of the Adobe Cs5 Suite ( I.e some have adobe Cs5 and AE stand alone installed, While others may have Cs5 Design standard installed)
All of the machine experience the same problem, in that when we try and create a PDF (Output psds and Jpgs from bridge to PDF) we get the following errors;
Having stepped through the normal Bridge troubleshooting guidlines takes us back to being able to launch bridge but apon selecting any future batch or grouping of images, once again return to the errros detailed.
Do any Adobe staff monitor these forums that may be able to advise?
On one of the machines the error is proceeded by

Hi Curt.
Thanks for trying to assist.
No we did not change any folder locations and in actual fact a test case of the process where I am able to replicate ion my laptop follows the steps as follows;
1) Open Bridge
2) Drag network located folder (afp mount in my case) (but clients indicated on the original query are all Fibre) to the bridge application thus opening the location in bridge
3) choose Output and set to create pdf to my desktop or any other local location
4) then recieve the errror regarding no available space ( screen shot provided above)
We are running 10.7.4 across our servers and workstations. I am not sure whether it ever worked correctly in 10.6.8 as I am new to the company, but make the assumption that it was working correctly as it was not a know "bug" or issue that was raised when the team discussed the migration to Lion.

• How execute a command on the Console from our prgm

can any body let me know how do we execute a command on the Console from our prgm . . on a windows platform ..
eg. a simple commant like "dir" or "cls" . . or whatever . . .
i heard that it can be done by calling the native methods . . but how is that done???

thankx for the quick reply . .
for instance i wanna take a file from my local machine . .
a c++ source code . . (myfile.cpp)
i want to execute that on the prompt using c:\> tcc myfile.cpp
and all these i mean reading the file from the HDD and giving it to the console and getting the output everything should be done by my prgm . .
so basically the command which i usually run on the prompt i should be able to pass that command from my java prgm to the console and get that thing executed . .
i hope i am clear now .. .

• Recursive setTimeout becomes inactive through JavaScript console

Hi,
I'm using setTimeout() recursively in functions which stops working completely as soon as I trigger an alert-box (alert()) from the JavaScript console. Calling alert() from the document's code itself does not have this effect. Refreshing the site F5 or hard refresh Ctrl+F5 reloads the page but doesn't start the timers. The only way to restore the site completely and get setTimeout() to work again is to close and open the tab or browser again. This seems to be a bug, I think. I'm using Firefox 15.0.1 on Win 7 64-bit.
See example below. The code below keeps displaying the time in the window's title after clicking the button. If you execute "alert('');" from the JavaScript console instead, it stops all setTimeout() functions and does not reactivate them even if you reload the page.
Edit: Sorry, heres the code:

click me

Thanks for the info! Very useful to not become crazy while debugging it

• Can I programmatically control an xbox 360 console from a PC using a USB cable?

I have an application that may require LabVIEW, some software normally associated with LabVIEW or both...
I would like to be able to programmatically control an Xbox 360, via a PC, and through the use of a USB cable connecting both. I have setup a separate Xbox 360 console as a "dedicated server" for my gaming clan. I would like to be able to have the PC issue scripted commands according to a schedule, that will cause the console to power up, start the specific game (disk in the machine already), and then proceed through a number of Xbox 360 controller button actuations to cause the game to essentially be ready to play.
If possible, I would like to find software that I could install on my PC (currently run with a Windows XP SP2 OS, but I have access to many versions of Windows and also Linux and soon, Solaris Unix).
I have tried using various Infrared devices that connect to and are controlled by my PC, but none so far have allowed the infrared signals to work once the game is launched (apparently, only controller signals generated through a USB cable or through RF from a wireless Xbox 360 remote work once the game is launched - and that probably because the IR signals are meant to control the console as a media device).
I would appreciate any direction that you 'all could offer. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your replies everyone, and thanks to NI for this great forum!
The last solution appears to be pretty close to what I'd like to do. If I understand you Robert, I would attach a DAQ to my PC via USB and would control that device via software, then the DAQ connects to a digital output controlled relay (looks multiple wires, and screw-on connections) and then there would be separate wires connecting 'channels' (my term) from the relay to individual button wires inside of the gaming controller? The signals coming from the controller following this would therefore appear as normal.
If this is correct, could you suggest any specific devices for this? I see that NI makes several USB DAQ's includng the USB-6501, 6008, and 6009. I also have seen many digital output controlled relays available from different vendors. I could use some assistance with the finer points for choosing the correct ones to purchase.
In case it makes any difference although the controller has analog functions my requirements are for only the digital buttons only as I would simply be proceeding through the Console's menu (left, right, up, down, enter/select, etc.), launching the game, and then within the game continuing to choose among the game's menu items, ultimately according to a script. So, I don't see any need to be able to actuate either of the 'sticks' which are analog in nature.
Thanks!

• Enabling javascript console?

I read the instructions here:
http://blog.deconcept.com/2005/07/28/safaris-hidden-debug-menu/
and I opened the Terminal (Macintosh HD>Applications>Utilities>Terminal). The Terminal window displayed:
Last login: Tue Feb 6 13:54:51 on ttyp1
Welcome to Darwin!
<user info here>$
I then pasted in the command:
<user info here>$ defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
and hit return. The Terminal window displayed:
<user info here>$ defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
<user info here>$
The instructions say:
Now the next time you start Safari, you’ll have an extra menu up top called “Debug” and inside are all kinds of goodies.
I then closed down Safari and relaunched it, but I can't find a Debug menu item. I'm using Safari 2.0.4, and there is nothing in the Safari Help when I search for "javascript console" or "debug menu".
17" intelimac 2ghz 2gb 250gb   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I then closed down Safari and relaunched it, but I can't find a Debug menu item.
I discovered that I didn't actually close down Safari. I thought closing all the browser windows shut down Safari. However, that is not the case. If you look at the dock and there is a black arrow pointing at the application's icon, then the application is still running. To quit Safari, I right clicked on its icon in the dock and selected Quit from the popup context menu (you can also click on Safari>Quit Safari). Then I relaunched Safari, and voila! the Debug menu item appeared in the menu.
If you want to get rid of the Debug menu item, reopen the terminal and after the $ sign enter the command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0

• DEBUGGING - JAVASCRIPT CONSOLE

hello gil, usually after a fresh install firefox asks you to help by submitting performance data to mozilla. this is internally dubbed "[https://blog.mozilla.org/tglek/2011/05/13/firefox-telemetry/ telemetry]", so the error you're seeing is likely linked to this functionality.
according to [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=732874 bug #732874] this will be fixed in the next version of firefox. in case you want to, you can also disable the gathering & submission of performance data in ''preferences > advanced > general'' for the moment...

• Javascript console chinese signs

hey all,
i develop application with 3d scenes in pdf. i updated the adobe reader to the newest one on yesterday and if i now get any errors on the javascript console they look like chinese oder japanese signs.
like this
anyone an idea?

hey ok,
so first: i tested it with the two consoles (the javascript console and the reader console) and both do it so.
to the second: i wilful made some errors in my code, just to show you what the console output is... sure if i make no mistakes in my code no signs will come. the curious thing is that the code, which cause the error, will be displayed in the reader 9 as a readable text and in the reader x in such chinese signs.

• Help needed in calling a javascript function from a jsp

Hey guys,
I need help.
In my jsp I have a field called date. When i get date field from the database, it is a concatination of date and time field, so I wrote a small javascript function to strip just the date part from this date and time value.
The javascript function is
function formatDate(fieldName)
var timer=fieldName;
timer = timer.substring(5,7)+"/"+timer.substring(8,10)+"/"+timer.substring(0,4);
return timer;
Now I want to call this javascript function from the input tag in jsp where I am displaying the value of date. Check below
This is one way I tried to do:

I even tried this:
<input size="13" name="startDate" maxLength="255" value="'formatDate(<%=startDate%>)'" onChange="checkDate(this)">
But it dosen't work
Please help. I am struggling on this for days.

Hello,
Although not as simple as it should be you can use a program like "Grab" to take a screenshot of the frame in the preview window in iMovie.
