JSF 10.1.3EA: af:menuTabs and menuitems calling action methods

I am trying to use af:menuTabs as spelled out in the demo using a menu model. What I would like to do is to get one of the menu items (when clicked) to frist call an action method in one of my backing beans. I belived I could set the outcome for the menu item as follows:
<managed-property>
<property-name>outcome</property-name>
<value>#{recent.refreshAction}</value>
</managed-property>
But when I try this I get the following:
javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.FacesException: The scope of the referenced object: '#{recent.refreshAction}' is shorter than the referring object     at com.sun.faces.el.ValueBindingImpl.getValue(ValueBindingImpl.java:206)     at com.sun.faces.el.ValueBindingImpl.getValue(ValueBindingImpl.java:154)
The menuTab is used as follows:
<af:menuTabs var="menuItem" value="#{menuModel.model}">
<f:facet name="nodeStamp">
<af:commandMenuItem text="#{menuItem.label}"
action="#{menuItem.getOutcome}" immediate="true"
rendered="#{menuItem.type=='default'}"/>
</f:facet>
</af:menuTabs>
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>menuItem_recent</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>com.shiny.menu.MenuItem</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>none</managed-bean-scope>
<managed-property>
<property-name>label</property-name>
<value>Recent</value>
</managed-property>
<managed-property>
<property-name>viewId</property-name>
<value>/recent.jsp</value>
</managed-property>
<managed-property>
<property-name>outcome</property-name>
<value>#{recent.refreshAction}</value>
</managed-property>
</managed-bean>
<navigation-case>
<from-action>#{recent.refreshAction}</from-action>
<from-outcome>success</from-outcome>
<to-view-id>/recent.jspx</to-view-id>
</navigation-case>
But if I use the following navigation case (and set the outcome of the menu item accordingly) all is ok but not what I want as I need some objects setup first.
<navigation-case>
<from-outcome>guide.alc_rec</from-outcome>
<to-view-id>/recent.jspx</to-view-id>
<redirect/>
</navigation-case>

I have just got back to this as busy on other things.
Has anyone got this to work? I still get the exception:
javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.FacesException: Can't get value from value binding expression: '#{products_backing.loadNew}'.     at com.sun.faces.el.ValueBindingImpl.getValue(ValueBindingImpl.java:206)     at com.sun.faces.el.ValueBindingImpl.getValue(ValueBindingImpl.java:154)     at oracle.adf.view.faces.bean.FacesBeanImpl.getProperty(FacesBeanImpl.java:55)     at oracle.adf.view.faces.component.UIXComponentBase.getProperty(UIXComponentBase.java:1013)     at oracle.adf.view.faces.component.UIXMenu.getValue(UIXMenu.java:99)     at oracle.adf.view.faces.component.UIXCollection._flushCachedModel(UIXCollection.java:889)     at oracle.adf.view.faces.component.UIXCollection.encodeBegin(UIXCollection.java:393)     at oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.uinode.UIComponentUINode._renderComponent(UIComponentUINode.java:297)

  • Ui:hyperlink and ui:button "action" methods stopped working in IE

    Hi
    I'm developing my application for few months, but few days ago all ui:hyperlink and button action methods stopped working in IE. They are not invoked at all... No javascript errors, everything works fine in Firefox. Can anybody tell me where to look as I'm sitting 6h in front of screen and cannot find anything wrong...
    The only thing I have changed was adding a filter which changes encoding to UTF-8. Class below:

    anyways, it can't be a problem becasue new application is facing the same problem and there's no filter. I'm using tomcat 5.5.18 on jboss 4.0.5.

  • Issue with JSF action method and Popup

    All,
    I have command Button, which has an action method. And my onclick function opens new popup. Once I close the popup, it has to return some values to the parent page and then my action method has to be executed.
    Issue is if I close the popup, nothing is happening in parent page.
    In my JavaScript if I return true, popup is opening and my action method is executing. But my expected behavior is after closing popup then only my action has to be executed.
    Thanks,
    Dhana

    Hi all,
    I came back to this today (after almost 2 years)... the current version of facestrace doesn't require a taglib at all: http://code.google.com/p/primefaces/downloads/list
    Just drop it in WEB-INF/lib, add *.jsf to the url mappings for the faces servlet. Then whenever you add trace=true to your URL, you get a nice dump of information there.
    Best,
    John

  • How to call javascript function & action method on clicking jsf  button?

    I have one jsf custom button. I am checking client side validations in mail by calling javascript function & also sending mail by calling action method of a bean which will execute at server side for onclick event of that button. Because of this when I click on that button its calling both javascript function and action method. So even though validations failed its sending mail. How can I overcome this problem?? Please help me....

    I am asking regarding commanLinks in jsf. I have the following code block in jsf. Even though mailSentMessage('true'); returns false, its calling action="#{emailObjectAction.sendEmail}" method. thats why I got that doubt. try the following code.
    <h:commandLink id="mailBtn123Send"      onclick="return mailSentMessage('true');" value="send mail"     action="#{emailObjectAction.sendEmail}">
    </h:commandLink>

  • Loading of tables and handling action methods

    I'm using Creator tables on my pages where I'm loadning these with lists (ObjectListDataprovider). The problem I have is that the table component is loosing the list after a submit. Therefore do I need to reload the list in Preprocess (using hidden variables) to be able to get actions invoked. This means that I need to load the list both in Preprocess and in the action method and this creates bad performance. I have tested to store the list in my SessionBean and this is working. I have some problems using a RequestBean. Am I working correctly or do anybody else have a better solution for this?

  • How does *.jsf extension map to *.jsp extension and where it is mapped

    Hi ,
    How does *.jsf extension map to *.jsp extension and where it is mapped ?
    Thanks

    How does *.jsf extension map to *.jsp extension and where it is mapped ?It is mapped in the web.xml.
    If you add the following in your web.xml:
    <context-param>
    <param-name>javax.faces.DEFAULT_SUFFIX</param-name>
    <param-value>.xhtml</param-value>
    </context-param>
    The *.jsf will be mapped to the file with the same name, but xhtml as extention.
    if you the javax.faces.DEFAULT_SUFFIX is not defined in the web.xml, the default suffix comes from the one of the constant of javax.faces.application.ViewHandler . This constant names DEFAULT_SUFFIX and equals to ".jsp"
    Look at:
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/javaserverfaces/1.1/docs/api/constant-values.html

  • The Menu and MenuItem classes

    I was wondering about the architecture of the Menu and MenuItem classes.
    I have developed a JavaFX builder in Kotlin. The task was relatively straightforward. Since most JavaFX components
    are under the Node/Parent hierarchy there is a great deal of uniformity in their development and in their usage in the builder.
    Because Menu/MenuItem are different the resulting coding requires special (messy) treatment. In Swing JMenu/JMenuItem
    both derive from JComponent and so would avoid this in a Swing builder.

    I can navigate through this JPopup
    using the arrow key and mouse both but now I want to
    navigate using TAB key also. Thus I want the TAB key
    to behave as ENTER key which will allow me to navigate
    through the JPopup menu.
    hi,
    i'm not really familliar with Swing or AWT, but isn't ENTER key supposed to trigger the buttons? not navigate?
    sorry, i'm confused

  • Any way (event) to call Java method after view created in JSF 2.0

    Hi,
    I am using JSF 2.0 Mojarra's implementation.
    I am interested to know if there is a way to call Java methods before and/or after view has been restored.
    I wanted to initialize data for my page in this Java method.
    I could see there is an event class PostRestoreStateEvent added in JSF 2.0. How to use it?
    I tired to use f:event element as below, but it does not work. Can anyone share anyother idea to achieve this behaviour?
    <f:metadata>
    <f:event type="postRestoreState" listener="#{employeeLoadBean.loadAfterRestoreView}"/>
    </f:metadata>
    Regards,
    Kishore K S

    Hi,
    The problem is solved as below.
    <f:metadata>
    <f:event type="javax.faces.event.PostRestoreStateEvent" listener="#{employeeViewEventListener.postRestoreState}"/>
    </f:metadata>
    The above calls the Java method #{employeeViewEventListener.postRestoreState} whenever View has been restored.
    It was not working when shortName of the event (ie., postRestoreState) is given and throwing ClassNotFound exception.

  • Calling a method in BPM Object from jsf page

    Hi All,
    How do I call a method in BPM object from JSF page? Is it possible to invoke it in a manner similar to invoking a method from managed bean in JSF application?
    Please help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Veronica

    You can use f:invoke (or f:invokea to with parameters)
    For ajax calls, you can use f:invokeUrl to get the URL to a particular method within your BPM object, although make sure the Server-Side Method property is set to Yes.

  • Calling a method in the Custom ADF component from JSF page

    HI.
    I have created some custom compoents by extending the core ADF Components. Like i have a ComboBoxDefault component with it's ComboBoxDefaultTag.java and Controls.tld file.
    Now my requirement is i want to bind my label to this component from the JSF page. like
    <fwcontrols:label binding="#{listComponents.comboBoxDefaultLabel}" id="label1"/>
    <fwcontrols:comboBoxDefault binding="#{listComponents.cmbLocales}"
    value="en_GB" id="comboBoxDefault" autoSubmit="true" label="label1">
    <f:selectItems value="#{listComponents.locales}"/>
    </fwcontrols:comboBoxDefault>
    In my JSF page the label will have an id, and that id will be specified in the label tag of the component.
    In Tag.java file i have overrided the setProperty(FacesBean facesBean). In this method i have bind all my properties. In core JSF the setProperty method is provided with the UIComponent parameter, so i can call my method in component also. Which is not in case of ADF Faces.
    My main point is how i can call my method setLabel() which is in ComboBoxDefault.java so that i can set the label.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Thanks for all your replies. I want this kind of a functionality because Im trying to invove a DC (Child DC) from a Parent DC such that the Child DC's view is displayed onto the view container of the Parent DC. I have embedded using 'interface view of a component instance' in the Parent Window and am able to create the component and set usage though the onPlugDefault of the Child View.
    But I observe that when i make a call from the parent, the flow is like this:
    1. The wdDoInit of the Child Component Controller gets triggered first.
    2. Then the wdDoInit of the Child's <b>VIEW</b> gets triggered
    3. and <b>THEN</b> the onPlugDefault of the Child Component Interface View
    What I had actually wanted was to Fire onPlugDefault where Im calling a method LoadData(), after which the Child DC's view must be triggered so it can display the fetched data.
    What is actually happening is the view gets displayed, but no data is displayed in the view.
    Right now I have just given a work around where Im triggering <b>LoadData()</b> of the <b>COmponent COntroller</b> from the <b>wdDoInit</b> of the <b>VIEW</b>.
    Is there a better way to do this? I find it strange that I have to load the Data from the view.
    Thanks
    Jack

  • How to call a method in jsf after stop typing in test box?

    Hi all,
    In my jsf page i have a text box in which user type some text field like "abc". i want after stop the typing i want a method to be called automatically and a datatable will be populated sith some result. my problem is is how to call the method automatically so that the user does not have to click any button after typing in the text box? plz help..
    Edited by: sailajoy on Dec 23, 2008 3:36 PM

    If it is after certain characters that the user types you can ascertain that the entry is done you can use onkeyup and within the javascript count the characters an when the necessary characters are set do the action you need to do.
    There should be some way by which you can suggest that the user has stopped typing i.e. either the max length has reached or the user has hit tab or went to another field. Going on other field too you can bring the focus back to your original field from where the user had hit tab. If you are thinking of something liek google suggest then AJAX is the best way to implement it.

  • Action method calls when refreshing the JSF page

    I have a test application which contains a JSF page. The page contains a command button. Button's action attribute is mapped with action method in managed bean.Inside action method I am not doing anything and just redirecting to the same page using navigation-rule configured in faces-config.xml. I deployed the application and tested the page.
    This is what I observed.
    scenario 1:
    ===========
    1) Run the page.
    2) Refresh the page.
    Observation:
    Action method not called.
    scenario 2:
    ===========
    1) Run the page.
    2) Click the command button.
    2) Refresh the page any number of times.
    Observation:
    For each and every time the page is refreshed Action method is called.
    Can anybody tell me why it is happening?

  • JSF seems to not call a simple action method

    I have a situation where it seems JSF is not performing one of it's basic functions--calling an action method in a backing bean based on a simple JSF EL expression.
    Here's the relevant part of my JSP (the h:subview tags are there because another JSP includes this one):
    -- my.jsp: ------------------------------------------------------------
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f" %>
    <f:subview id="work-area">
    <h:form id="peers-work">
         <h:commandButton id="edit" value="Edit"     action="#{peerBean.edit}" styleClass="actionButton" />
    </h:form>
    </f:subview>
    --------------------------------------------------------------My faces-config.xml defines the "peerBean" as follows:
    -- faces-config.xml: ------------------------------------------------------------
    <faces-config>
      <managed-bean>
        <description>Session bean for performing Peer operations.</description>
        <managed-bean-name>peerBean</managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class>com.myApp.PeerBean</managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
      </managed-bean>
      <navigation-rule>
        <from-view-id>/my.jsp</from-view-id>
        <navigation-case>
          <from-outcome>success</from-outcome>
          <to-view-id>/editPeer.jsp</to-view-id>
        </navigation-case>
        <navigation-case>
            <from-outcome>fail</from-outcome>
            <to-view-id>/error.jsp</to-view-id>
          </navigation-case>
        </navigation-rule>
    </faces-config>
    --------------------------------------------------------------And here's the action method in PeerBean:
    -- PeerBean.java ----------------------------------------
    public class PeerBean extends BaseBean implements Serializable {
        public PeerBean() {
        public String edit() {
            logger.debug("in edit().");
            Peer peer = this.getPeer(this.getId() );
            String outcome = "success"; // optimism!
            if (peer == null) {
                outcome = "fail";
            } else {
                this.setId(peer.getId() );
                this.setName(peer.getName() );
                this.setDescription(peer.getDescription() );
            return outcome;
    --------------------------------------------------------------It compiles and runs fine, but when I click on the "Edit" button in my.jsp, the page submits but never enters the "edit" method (based on the fact that the logger call in the method does not write anything to the log.), and it simply re-displays my.jsp (even though it should go to the "success" or "fail" page, according to the navigation rules). I see a bunch of debug messages in the logs from the code that loads the page, but no indication that the edit method is touched. There are no stack traces or errors reported in any of the logs that Tomcat creates for this application.
    Elsewhere in my application, I am able to use commandButton elements to trigger backing bean actions just like I'm trying to do above, and in other places it works fine. I don't know why the above case does not work.
    Also, is there a way to put JSF in a debug mode that shows info such as the navigation outcome processing, JSF EL processing, etc.?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Scott

    I see. Thanks for the response.
    I already have message and messages tag in the JSF, but no error message is displayed. Also, there is no error message in the tomcat log.
    I actually found your tutorial ( http://balusc.blogspot.com/2008/01/jsf-tutorial-with-eclipse-and-tomcat.html ) yesterday, so when I saw your response, your name looked familiar but I did not immediately remember why. I Will be going through the tutorial now.
    My application goes as far as the INVOKE APPLICATION phase, but never enters/executes the action method, can anyone please suggest any reason that could be the cause.
