JSF and NetBeans VWP

Hi All,
I am trying to locate the appropriate forum to post questions about visual web pack / JSF web app dfevelopment. There is an excellent Studio Creator forum is there an active forum here to exchange issues and ideas ?
Jim

Hi Raymond,
Thanks for the reply. The issue we are having currently is rendering nested jsf components and in particular the centering of them on a browser page. I have a grid panel containing 3 columns containing two spacer text labels separated by another grid panel which contains the page content.
When previewed the page looks good when the app is run the spacer text labels are not rendered....
Any ideas welcome
Thanks
Jim

  • PDF Viewer component that works in NetBeans VWP

    Hi All,
    I am looking for a PDF Viewer Component that will work with NetBeans VWP. Ideally, this would be something that I could load into the Pallette and drop on a web form for use, then dynamically call up a document for display within the control. (Actually, IDEALLY, this would be a multi-document viewer, i.e. PDF's Word files, text files, etc.). It does not have to be a free tool - though free would be nice. I have checked out the Acrobat Viewer Java Bean but from everything I can find on that, it appears to be something that can be used in Java Apps, but not web apps. If I am wrong about this, can someone please correct me and link to web app usage (as applied to VWP - JSP & JSF).
    Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I noticed a lot of references to IText on this forum and I'm in the process of checking it out now. But I have not seen anything on IText regarding an actual viewer component.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    I don't believe iText has a viewer as I know of. If Adobe has a java bean then you can create an applet for the client side to display the viewer.

  • Could not get Using JPA Within a Visual Web JSF App Netbeans Tut.to work

    [http://testwww.netbeans.org/kb/60/web/web-jpa.html|http://testwww.netbeans.org/kb/60/web/web-jpa.html]
    Hi All,
    I am having difficulty displaying the content of Users table (Derby sample database) despite having followed all the steps provided in Using Java Persistence API Within a Visual Web JSF Application Netbeans Tutorial (http://testwww.netbeans.org/kb/60/web/web-jpa.html).
    It is uncleard from the instruction in step 3, section Creating a Java Persistence Entity Class Representing the Users Database Table - "The Entity Classes dialog dispalys. The IDE displays the database table name Users, and suggests a class name of Users. (Double click this class name to change it.)", but did not provide detail on what class name should it be changed to.
    I have tried building both TestModelApp (SE) and TestWebApp (Visual Web JSF) on JDK 1.6.13, Netbeans 6.5, Glassfish v2r2 and v3 (Prelude) on Windows XP platform without success.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Well, in real world the average professional Java EE / JSF developer doesn't use Netbeans nor Woodstock. Those are really for low-entry developers with zero technical knowledge who on its turn are often incapable of answering problems of your kind. Your question is also too non-technical and visualized and targeted on the wizards of Netbeans. After all your question is simply Netbeans specific, not JSF specific. If you try to ask it the more technical way (thus, at real source code level), you may have more chance on help.
    With regard to JPA specific issues, it unfortunately doesn't have a dedicated subforum yet here at forums.sun.com. You could try the [EJB forum|http://forums.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=13] or the [Java EE SDK|http://forums.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=136] forum.

  • JSF and SSL

    I am kind of a new guy to JSF and i have never used SSL or anything similar so forgive me if my question sounds stupid
    I searched the forums for using https in JSF pages but there is no HOw-to guide or something.
    Can anyone let me know what i need in order to make online web application use SSL (import libraries? edit xml?)
    For the record i am currently using Netbeans with a Glassfish server
    Thank you

    SSL is not front-end/web-app dependent, it is application server dependent. Some application server comes out of the box with SSL support, such as Tomcat and Glassfish. For configuring SSL in Glassfish, just read its documentation.
    Here are some pointers: http://www.google.com/search?q=glassfish+ssl

  • Datasource Setup In Netbeans VWP

    Please help me anybody that is how to set datasource in Visual web pack that is using netbeans. I am using mysql server 5.0 and Mysql JDBC Driver 5.04. I can easily create data source in Java Studio
    creator but i am unable to do the same with netbeans VWP. If anybody know about how to set up datasource in VWP pls help me out here.

    I set up driver for MYSQL and created the Database connection using that driver its ok there is no problem.But when i drag n drop a table from MYSQL connection n drop it on table and when i run the project, page will display errors. As i observed the datasource property for the cached row set is not binding proerly. I think that is the reason why page is not able to display that database table data and giving errors.

  • Errors when using tomcat and netbeans combo.[Solved]

    Hi I'm trying to set up a netbeans/tomcat7 development environment for servlet development.
    I have tried this on 2 machines without any success.
    The steps I have followed are as follows.
    First I installed tomcat7 and netbeans from using pacman, then to be able to configure tomcat from netbeans I made the config files write permission 777, as it's just a development server security is not an issue.
    From there I started up netbeans started a new project and set the server to tomcat and pointed the Catalina home dir to /usr/share/tomcat7.
    When I try to run the example jsp project I get the following error:

    From the error, it appears that there is no JDK installed - only a JRE, could that be the case? If you do have a JDK installed, then Tomcat is not finding it.
    I would also not run this on the openJDK, in case you are doing that. I would use the proprietary Oracle/Sun JDK. It's in the AUR, or simply download it from Oracle.
    I was not even aware that netbeans and tomcat are available from pacman. I always "install" those myself manually (i.e. unpack them into a folder). They are simply Java apps that can be installed anywhere, as long as you point them to a valid JDK.

  • Jsf and tiles

    hi all.
    i'm developing an application using jsf and tiles.
    i've some problem in the general layout page.
    how can I refer to images and files,if I don't know where the page will be used?
    with struts i've used <html:rewrite page=" ... " /> but it doesn't work with jsf.
    I only use the TilesServlet.
    any suggestion?
    i've also try to define the url like "/css/mycss.css" but in local dosn't work.
    thank a lot for any reply!

  • Jsf and tiles via myfaces

    Greetings:
    Please either confirm and/or correct following proposed solution for Myfaces tiles.
    Issue: isert a tile definition and attribute in a pure jsf page.
    First passed solution: A hybrid of Jsp programming and Jsf. I was able to create a tile page layout in pure jsf except in the portal columns i used old fashion jsp programming to insert a list of portletDefinitions which is extracted from jsf ValueBinding of its managed beans.
    The problem with the above approach is that it works well only with html portlet fragments. When a portlet fragment has some jsf elements, the page rendering has conflict of simultaneous rendering between jsf and jsp. The portlet fragments are rendered in a woring place.
    Proposed solution: use <h:dataTable ...> to render the portletList and extract the item portletDefinition as following:
    <h:dataTable var="portlet"
    value="#{portalTabbedBean.selectedPane.serviceListL}" >
    <f:verbatim>
    <h:outputText
    value="<tiles:insert name=#{portlet.portletDefinition} flush='false' /> " />
    </f:verbatim>
    </h:dataTable>
    Note on the name of tiles:insert element, which i just extracted the definition as a jsp variable to make it work in the first hybrid solution:
    <tiles:insert name="<%=portletDefinition%>" flush="false" />
    Thanks
    BaTien
    DBGROUPS

    I reply this myself. Jsf and Jsp programming either via Jstl or while loop do not go together under current version.
    I solve the problem by using Jsp programming and insert the portlet tile fragment directly rather than though a portlet template with different tile content attribute. The portlet tile is created as <h:panelGrid ...> and observe the set rules to make Jsf and jsp working together. Hopefully Jsf and Jsp will be able to work together nicely in their next specifications.

  • Using JSF and JavaMail to send Automated Email

    Hi All,
    Can any one please suggest I can use JSF and JavaMail to send automated email messages i.e after a person has successfully completed a form , a message is sent to his/her email address confirming that he has succesfully registered or completed a form. I have succesfull implemeted the use of javamail for sending email meassages in a JSF web application but cant seem to figure out how i can achieve automated sending of emails in JSF. Please any ideas, tutorials or source code would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I don't understand your problem:
    You have already been able to send e-mails from a JSF webapplication, but you are not capable of sending e-mails from a JSF webapplication?!
    Automated sending of e-mails will be exactly the same as non-automated.

  • Using JSF and tiles

    Hi Friends,
    I'm trying to combine JSF and tiles as follows:
    Template file:
    <f:subview id="content">
    <tiles:insert attribute="content" flush="false"/>
    </f:subview>
    content file:
    <tiles:insert definition="userSpecific">
    <tiles:put name="content" type="string" >
    <h:outputText value="aaaa"/>
    </tiles:put>
    </tiles:insert>
    I get the following error when loading the content file:
    2007-06-20 10:14:10,578 [http-8080-Processor23] ERROR org.apache.myfaces.shared_impl.taglib.UIComponentTagUtils - Component javax.faces.component.UIViewRoot is no ValueHolder, cannot set value.
    I tried putting the template content in a verbatim tag and then it works
    but the content page is not displayed in correct place in the template...
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Are you dead set on using tiles? I can see tiles including JSF but JSF including tiles? Not sure if that will work.
    My suggestion is to use Trinidad. It has the concept of Regions which is very "tiles" like and you will be far more successful.

    I am a newbie J2EE developer and I am not clear about main differences between JSF and Struts also I saw couple of articles describing integration between JSF and Struts. • JSP, JSF, and ADF

    I've just started playing around with this and was looking for samples/tutorials to help. Of the tutorials/samples I've seen, they appear to fall short of explaining an end-end example and stick mostly to JSF and the backing bean - usually displaying static data within a JSP and navigation. I'm a bit confused on how to call custom methods in my business services (application modules) and in turn use the view objects to fetch data from my database and display the results within a JSP using the JSF components.
    I realize the latest preview JDeveloper is without ADF but while I had time I was hoping to play around with ADF Faces to hit my development database. Guess I'm trying to make sense of how JSP, JSF, Business components, and my db connection all play together in order to set up a decent starting point for an app.

    You could use Jdeveloper 10G and play around with ADF Faces, look at the demos, and the sources behind them.
    There are a couple of papers on OTN like...
    Working with ADF Faces in JDev 10g:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/adfjsf/how-to-adf-faces-10gjdev.htm
    Roadmap for ADF Faces:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/papers/9.0.5.0/adfuix_roadmap/adfuix_roadmap.html
    And many more... as I could find upon search...
    http://www.oracle.com/ultrasearch/wwws_otn/searchotn.jsp?p_Action=Search&p_Query=adf+faces
    The visual editing support for 'The ADF Model access through ADF Faces bindings' is under development (hence no tutorials), and will be available in future release (could be post 10G release).
